RANGE SAFETY
Your safety and the safety of others are very important.
We have provided many important safety messages in this manual and on your appliance. Always read and obey all safety
messages.
This is the safety alert symbol.
This symbol alerts you to potential hazards that can kill or hurt you and others.
All safety messages will follow the safety alert symbol and either the word “DANGER” or “WARNING.”
These words mean:
You can be killed or seriously injured if you don't immediately
follow instructions.
DANGER
You can be killed or seriously injured if you don't
instructions.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock,
ꢀ Protective Liners – Do not use aluminum foil to line surface
unit drip bowls or oven bottoms, except as suggested in
the manual. Improper installation of these liners may result
in a risk of electric shock, or fire.
injury to persons, or damage when using the range, follow
basic precautions, including the following:
ꢀ WARNING: TO REDUCE THE RISK OF TIPPING OF
THE RANGE, THE RANGE MUST BE SECURED BY
PROPERLY INSTALLED ANTI-TIP DEVICES. TO CHECK
IF THE DEVICES ARE INSTALLED PROPERLY, SLIDE
RANGE FORWARD, LOOK FOR ANTI-TIP BRACKET
SECURELY ATTACHED TO FLOOR, AND SLIDE RANGE
BACK SO REAR RANGE FOOT IS UNDER ANTI-TIP
BRACKET.
ꢀ Glazed Cooking Utensils – Only certain types of glass,
glass/ceramic, ceramic, earthenware, or other glazed
utensils are suitable for range-top service without breaking
due to the sudden change in temperature.
ꢀ Utensil Handles Should Be Turned Inward and Not Extend
Over Adjacent Surface Units – To reduce the risk of burns,
ignition of flammable materials, and spillage due to
unintentional contact with the utensil, the handle of a
utensil should be positioned so that it is turned inward, and
does not extend over adjacent surface units.
ꢀ CAUTION: Do not store items of interest to children in
cabinets above a range or on the backguard of a range –
children climbing on the range to reach items could be
seriously injured.
ꢀ Do Not Soak Removable Heating Elements – Heating
ꢀ Proper Installation – Be sure the range is properly installed
elements should never be immersed in water.
and grounded by a qualified technician.
ꢀ Do Not Cook on Broken Cooktop – If cooktop should
break, cleaning solutions and spillovers may penetrate the
broken cooktop and create a risk of electric shock. Contact
a qualified technician immediately.
ꢀ Never Use the Range for Warming or Heating the Room.
ꢀ Do Not Leave Children Alone – Children should not be left
alone or unattended in area where the range is in use.
They should never be allowed to sit or stand on any part of
the range.
ꢀ Clean Cooktop With Caution – If a wet sponge or cloth is
used to wipe spills on a hot cooking area, be careful to
avoid steam burn. Some cleaners can produce noxious
fumes if applied to a hot surface.
ꢀ Wear Proper Apparel – Loose-fitting or hanging garments
should never be worn while using the range.
ꢀ Use Care When Opening Door – Let hot air or steam
escape before removing or replacing food.
ꢀ User Servicing – Do not repair or replace any part of the
range unless specifically recommended in the manual. All
other servicing should be referred to a qualified technician.
ꢀ Do Not Heat Unopened Food Containers – Build-up of
pressure may cause container to burst and result in injury.
ꢀ Storage in or on the Range – Flammable materials should
not be stored in an oven or near surface units.
ꢀ Keep Oven Vent Ducts Unobstructed.
ꢀ Do Not Use Water on Grease Fires – Smother fire or flame
or use dry chemical or foam-type extinguisher.
ꢀ Placement of Oven Racks – Always place oven racks in
desired location while oven is cool. If rack must be moved
while oven is hot, do not let potholder contact hot heating
element in oven.
ꢀ Use Only Dry Potholders – Moist or damp potholders on
hot surfaces may result in burns from steam. Do not let
potholder touch hot heating elements. Do not use a towel
or other bulky cloth.
ꢀ DO NOT TOUCH HEATING ELEMENTS OR INTERIOR
SURFACES OF OVEN – Heating elements may be hot even
though they are dark in color. Interior surfaces of an oven
become hot enough to cause burns. During and after use,
do not touch, or let clothing or other flammable materials
contact heating elements or interior surfaces of oven until
they have had sufficient time to cool. Other surfaces of the
appliance may become hot enough to cause burns – among
these surfaces are oven vent openings and surfaces near
these openings, oven doors, and windows of oven doors.
ꢀ DO NOT TOUCH SURFACE UNITS OR AREAS NEAR
UNITS – Surface units may be hot even though they are
dark in color. Areas near surface units may become hot
enough to cause burns. During and after use, do not touch,
or let clothing or other flammable materials contact surface
units or areas near units until they have had sufficient time
to cool. Among those areas are the cooktop and surfaces
facing the cooktop.
For self-cleaning ranges –
ꢀ Use Proper Pan Size – The range is equipped with one or
more surface units of different size. Select utensils having
flat bottoms large enough to cover the surface unit heating
element. The use of undersized utensils will expose a
portion of the heating element to direct contact and may
result in ignition of clothing. Proper relationship of utensil to
burner will also improve efficiency.
ꢀ Do Not Clean Door Gasket – The door gasket is essential
for a good seal. Care should be taken not to rub, damage,
or move the gasket.
ꢀ Do Not Use Oven Cleaners – No commercial oven cleaner
or oven liner protective coating of any kind should be used
in or around any part of the oven.
ꢀ Never Leave Surface Units Unattended at High Heat
Settings – Boilover causes smoking and greasy spillovers
that may ignite.
ꢀ Clean Only Parts Listed in Manual.
ꢀ Before Self-Cleaning the Oven – Remove broiler pan and
other utensils.
ꢀ Make Sure Reflector Pans or Drip Bowls Are in Place –
Absence of these pans or bowls during cooking may
subject wiring or components underneath to damage.
For units with ventilating hood –
ꢀ Clean Ventilating Hoods Frequently – Grease should not
be allowed to accumulate on hood or filter.
ꢀ When flaming foods under the hood, turn the fan on.

WARNING
A
Food Poisoning Hazard
B
Do not let food sit for more than one hour before or
after cooking.
Doing so can result in food poisoning or sickness.
A. Single size (6" [15.24 cm])
B. Dual size (9" [22.86 cm])
Use the Warm Zone element to keep cooked foods warm.
One hour is the recommended maximum time to maintain food
quality.
The Dual Cooking Zone offers flexibility depending on the size of
the cookware. Single size can be used in the same way as a
regular element. The dual size combines both the single and
outer element and is recommended for larger size cookware.
Do not use it to heat cold foods.
The Warm Zone element can be used alone or when any of the
other surface cooking areas are being used.
The Warm Zone element area will not glow red when cycling on.
However, its indicator light will glow as long as the Warm Zone
element area is too hot to touch.
ꢀ
Use only cookware and dishes recommended for oven and
cooktop use.

ꢀ
ꢀ
Do not use plastic wrap to cover food. Plastic wrap may melt.
Use pot holders or oven mitts to remove food.
To Use DUAL:
1. Push in and turn the left front control knob counterclockwise
to the DUAL zone anywhere between HI and LO.
2. Push in and turn knob to vertical (off) when finished.
To Use SINGLE:
1. Push in and turn the left front control knob clockwise to the
SINGLE zone anywhere between HI and LO.
To Use:
Push in WARM ZONE button to activate. Push again to turn off.
2. Push in and turn knob to vertical (off) when finished.
Ceramic Glass
(on some models)
The surface cooking area will glow red when an element is on. It
will cycle on and off, at all settings, to maintain the selected heat
level.
It is normal for the surface of white and biscuit ceramic glass to
appear to change color when surface cooking areas are hot. As
the glass cools, it will return to its original color.
Wiping off the cooktop before and after each use will help keep it
free from stains and provide the most even heating. On cooktops
with white or biscuit ceramic glass, soils and stains may be more
visible, and may require more cleaning and care. For more
information, see “General Cleaning” section.
ꢀ
Do not store jars or cans above the cooktop. Dropping a
heavy or hard object onto the cooktop could crack the
cooktop.
ꢀ
Do not leave a hot lid on the cooktop. As the cooktop cools,
air can become trapped between the lid and the cooktop,
and the ceramic glass could break when the lid is removed.

ꢀ
For foods containing sugar in any form, clean up all spills and
soils as soon as possible. Allow the cooktop to cool down
slightly. Then, while wearing oven mitts, remove the spills
while the surface is still warm. If sugary spills are allowed to
cool down, they can adhere to the cooktop and can cause
pitting and permanent marks.
Coil Elements and Burner Bowls
(on some models)
Coil elements should be level for optimal cooking results. Burner
bowls, when clean, reflect heat back to the cookware. They also
help catch spills.
ꢀ
Do not slide cookware or bakeware across the cooktop.
Aluminum or copper bottoms and rough finishes on
cookware or bakeware could leave scratches or marks on the
cooktop.
Cookware should not extend more than ½" (1.3 cm) over the coil
element. If cookware is uneven or too large, it can produce
excess heat causing the burner bowl to change color. For more
information, see the “General Cleaning” section.
ꢀ
ꢀ
Do not cook popcorn in prepackaged aluminum containers
on the cooktop. They could leave aluminum marks that
cannot be removed completely.
NOTE: Before removing or replacing coil elements and burner
bowls, make sure they are cool and the control knobs are in the
Off position.
Do not allow objects that could melt, such as plastic or
aluminum foil, to touch any part of the entire cooktop.
To Remove:
1. Push in the edge of coil element toward the receptacle. Then

lift it enough to clear the burner bowl.
Use cookware about the same size as the surface cooking
area. Cookware should not extend more than ½" (1.3 cm)
outside the area.

ꢀ
ꢀ
Use flat-bottomed cookware for best heat conduction and
energy efficiency. Cookware with rounded, warped, ribbed or
dented bottoms could cause uneven heating and poor
cooking results.
3. Lift out the burner bowl.
To Replace:
Determine flatness by placing the straight edge of a ruler
across the bottom of the cookware. While you rotate the ruler,
no space or light should be visible between it and the
cookware.
1. Line up openings in the burner bowl with the coil element
receptacle.
ꢀ
ꢀ
Cookware designed with slightly indented bottoms or small
expansion channels can be used.
Make sure the bottoms of pots and pans are clean and dry
before using them. Residue and water can leave deposits
when heated.
2. Holding the coil element as level as possible, slowly push the

3. When the terminal is pushed into the receptacle as far as it
will go, push down the edge of the coil element opposite the
receptacle.
The hot surface indicator light will glow as long as any surface
cooking area is too hot to touch, even after the surface cooking
area(s) is turned off.

Lift-up Cooktop
Cookware
IMPORTANT: Do not leave empty cookware on a hot surface
(on some models)
cooking area, element or surface burner.
The lift-up cooktop provides easy access for cleaning beneath.
Do not drop the cooktop. Damage could occur to the finish and
the cooktop frame. For more information, see the “General
Cleaning” section.
Ideal cookware should have a flat bottom, straight sides and a
well-fitting lid, and the material should be of medium-to-heavy
thickness.
Rough finishes may scratch the cooktop. Aluminum and copper
may be used as a core or base in cookware. However, when used
as a base they can leave permanent marks on the cooktop or
grates.
To Lift:
Lift the cooktop by both front corners until the supports lock into
place.
Cookware material is a factor in how quickly and evenly heat is
transferred, which affects cooking results. A nonstick finish has
the same characteristics as its base material. For example,
aluminum cookware with a nonstick finish will take on the
properties of aluminum.
Cookware with nonstick surfaces should not be used under the
broiler.
Use the following chart as a guide for cookware material
characteristics.
To Replace:
1. Lift the cooktop from both sides while pressing the support
rods back to unlock them.

Ideal results on low to medium heat
settings.
ꢀ
ꢀ
On ceramic glass models, use only flat-bottomed canners.
On coil element models, the installation of a Canning Unit Kit
is recommended. If a kit is not installed, the life of the coil
element will be shortened. See “Assistance or Service” for
ordering instructions.
Copper
ꢀ

For best results, use a broiler pan and grid (provided on some
models). It is designed to drain juices and help avoid spatter
and smoke.
Preheating
Style 1 - Electronic Oven Control
For proper draining, do not cover the broiler grid with foil. The
bottom of the pan may be lined with aluminum foil for easier
cleaning.
After START is pressed, the oven will enter a timed preheat
conditioning. “Lo” will appear on the display until the temperature
is above 170ºF (77ºC). Once 170ºF (77ºC) is reached, the display
temperature will increase in 2° increments as the actual
temperature of the oven increases. “PREHEATING” will appear in
the display in the lower text line. When the preheat conditioning
temperature is reached, a tone will sound, and the selected
temperature will appear on the display.
ꢀ
ꢀ
Trim excess fat to reduce spattering. Slit the remaining fat on
the edges to avoid curling.
Pull out oven rack to the stop position before turning or
removing food. Use tongs to turn food to avoid the loss of
juices. Very thin cuts of fish, poultry or meat may not need to
be turned.
Styles 2, 3 & 4 - Electronic Oven Controls
ꢀ
After broiling, remove the pan from the oven when removing
the food. Drippings will bake on the pan if left in the heated
oven, making cleaning more difficult.
After START is pressed, the oven will enter a timed preheat
conditioning. “PrE” and the time countdown will appear on the
display (on some models). When the preheat conditioning time
ends, a tone will sound and the selected temperature will appear
on the display.
Before broiling, position rack according to Broiling Chart. It is not
necessary to preheat the oven before putting food in unless
recommended in the recipe. Position food on grid in the broiler
pan, then place it in the center of the oven rack. Close the door to
the broil stop position to ensure proper broiling temperature.
Preheat temperatures are affected by varying factors such as
room temperature and peak energy usage times. It is normal for
the temperature showing on the display and the actual oven
temperature to differ.
Waiting an additional 10 minutes after the preheat conditioning
time ends to put food in the oven is suggested when baking
foods with leavening ingredients, such as yeast, baking powder,
baking soda and eggs.
Choice Bake® Function
To Broil:
1. Open door to broil stop position.
(on some models)
2. Press BROIL.
The CHOICE BAKE® function reduces top heat in the oven during
cooking. It is ideal when baking pies, breads and casseroles and
when roasting meat and poultry.
3. Press START.
4. Press OFF/CANCEL when finished.
During traditional baking and roasting, the bake and broil
elements or burners cycle on and off at intervals. When CHOICE
BAKE® is selected, the broil element or burner cycles on less
frequently. This reduces top browning of foods and allows you
more customized control of your cooking results.
BROILING CHART
For best results, place food 3" (7 cm) or more from the broil
element. Times are guidelines only and may need to be adjusted
for individual foods and tastes. Recommended rack positions are
numbered from the bottom (1) to the top (5). For diagram, see the
“Positioning Racks and Bakeware” section.
To Use:
1. Press CHOICE BAKE® function.
Press the TEMP “up” or “down” arrow pads to set a

During the CONVECT preheating cycle, the fan, and the bake and

the ring element cycles to maintain the oven temperature while
the fan continues to constantly circulate the heated air.
*Place up to 9 patties, equally spaced, on broiler grid.
Convection Cooking
If the oven door is opened during convection cooking or
preheating, the ring element and fan will turn off immediately.
Once the door is closed, they will come back on.
(Style 1 - Electronic Oven Control)
During convection cooking, the fan provides increased hot air
circulation continuously and more consistently throughout the
oven. The movement of heated air around the food helps to
speed up cooking by penetrating the cooler outer surfaces. Food
cooks more evenly, browning and crisping outer surfaces while
sealing moisture inside.
ꢀ
For optimal cooking results, do not cover food with aluminum
foil.
To Select Convection Settings
There are 5 convection presets for time and temperature. Each
can be activated by sequentially pressing the CONVECT key.
Many foods can be cooked by lowering cooking temperatures

Sequence Programming
To Review/Modify Programmed Sequence:
(on some models)
If program steps are partially or completely programmed, yet the
sequence has not been started, the programmed cook functions
can be reviewed.
Sequence Programming allows you to program at one time up to
4 cooking functions. Other oven functions, such as the Timer and
Warming Drawer, may be used when a sequenced Program is
running.
1. Press REVIEW STEPS. Step 1 will appear in the display.
All steps of a sequenced program must be programmed with a
stop time. If a stop time is not entered for a step in the sequence
program, and the ADD STEP pad is pressed, 3 tones will sound
prompting you to enter a stop time.
Subsequent presses of REVIEW STEPS will cause display of
programmed steps in order.
“STEP” and “REVIEW” will appear on the display. The
number of the displayed step will flash. A recalled step will
remain lit on the display for 5 minutes if no further action is
taken.
Sequence Programming takes precedence over any
nonsequenced cook function. For example, if an untimed Bake
function is in process and a sequence program is started, the
untimed Bake function will be canceled, and the program
sequence will start.
2. If fewer than four steps have been programmed, press
REVIEW STEPS repeatedly until the last programmed step is
displayed, then press ADD STEP if it is desired to program an
additional step.
When using Sequence Programming, STEPS 1 2 3 4 will show on
the oven display.
While a step is recalled, a cook function pad can be used to
change the function, or the TEMP “up” or “down” arrow pad
can be used to change the set temperature.
Example - Sequence Programming
The start time and stop time can be changed by pressing the
HR or MIN “up” or “down” arrow pads.
To Program the First Step of the Sequence:
1. Press BAKE or any other desired Cooking Options key.
Changing the start time and stop time of a step will
automatically change the start times and stop times of all
subsequent programmed cook functions.

3. Press the HOUR and/or MIN “up” or “down” keys to set the
time of day for the first cooking function to begin. For
example, 1:00.
The last step of the sequence will be canceled, and the step
prior to the canceled sequence will show on the display for
either review or modification.
“PUSH START OR ADD STEP” will appear on the oven
display.
If the programmed sequence has not been started, see “To
Program Steps 2, 3 and 4 of the Sequence” section to
program a step to replace the canceled cook function.
4. Press ADD STEP.
NOTE: If Start is pressed after only 1 sequence has been
programmed, a regular cooking mode will start. For example, if
you choose Bake as your first step, and Start is pressed, the
oven will begin a normal baking cycle. After Start has been
pressed, additional steps cannot be added to the sequencing. If
additional steps are desired, press OFF/CANCEL. This will exit
the sequence program, and the oven display will return to just the
time of day.
2. Press START.
The first step will show on the display and the program
sequence will begin.
Changes can be made during a programmed cook function;
however, changes cannot be made after a programmed cook
function has been completed.
If at any time during an active sequenced program ADD STEP
is pressed, 3 tones will sound.

Cover foods with a lid or aluminum foil.
WARNING
Do not cover with plastic wrap.
Empty serving dishes and oven proof dishes can be heated while
the warming drawer is preheating.
Food Poisoning Hazard
Do not let food sit for more than one hour before or
after cooking.
Before using the warming drawer, wash the tray that lines the
bottom of the drawer with soap and water. See “General

The Warming Drawer operates at 170ºF (80ºC) only.
RANGE CARE
Self-Cleaning Cycle (on some models)
Hand clean inside door edge and the 1½" (3.8 cm) area
ꢀ
around the inside oven cavity frame, being certain not to
move or bend the gasket. This area does not get hot enough
during self-cleaning to remove soil. Do not let water, cleaner,
etc. enter slots on door frame. Use a damp cloth to clean this
area.
WARNING
ꢀ
Wipe out any loose soil to reduce smoke and avoid damage.
At high temperatures, foods react with porcelain. Staining,
etching, pitting or faint white spots can result. This will not
affect cooking performance.
Burn Hazard
Do not touch the oven during the Self-Cleaning cycle.
Prepare Cooktop and Storage Drawer:
Keep children away from oven during
Self-Cleaning cycle.
ꢀ
Remove plastic items from the cooktop because they may
melt.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in burns.
ꢀ
Remove all items from the storage drawer.
How the Cycle Works
IMPORTANT: The health of some birds is extremely sensitive to
the fumes given off during the Self-Cleaning cycle. Exposure to
the fumes may result in death to certain birds. Always move birds
to another closed and well-ventilated room.
IMPORTANT: The heating and cooling of porcelain on steel in the
oven may result in discoloring, loss of gloss, hairline cracks and
popping sounds.
Self-clean the oven before it becomes heavily soiled. Heavy soil
results in longer cleaning and more smoke.
The Self-Cleaning cycle uses very high temperatures, burning soil
to a powdery ash.
Keep the kitchen well-ventilated during the Self-Cleaning cycle to
help get rid of heat, odors, and smoke.
Style 1 - Electronic Oven Control
Do not block the oven vent(s) during the Self-Cleaning cycle. Air
must be able to move freely. Depending on your model, see
“Oven Vent” or “Oven Vents” section.
The clean cycle can be set at one of two levels Maxi Clean
(4 hours 30 minutes) or Quick Clean (2 hours 30 minutes).
Suggested clean times are 2 hours 30 minutes for light soil or
4 hours 30 minutes for average to heavy soil.
Do not clean, rub, damage or move the oven door gasket. The
door gasket is essential for a good seal.
Once the oven has completely cooled, remove ash with a damp
cloth. Do not wipe down any of the inside surfaces until the oven
has completely cooled down. Applying a cool damp cloth to the
inner door glass before it has cooled completely could result in
the glass breaking.
Prepare Oven:
ꢀ
ꢀ
ꢀ
Remove the broiler pan, grid, cookware and bakeware and,
on some models, the temperature probe from the oven.
Remove any foil from the oven because it may burn or melt,
damaging the oven.
The oven light will not work during the Self-Cleaning cycle.
The rear surface elements will not work during the Self-Cleaning
cycle.
Remove oven racks to keep them shiny and easy to slide.
See “General Cleaning” section for more information.
