fully transistorized and does not contain any
parts that can be repaired by the user.

Congratulations on your purchase of the WX-17
First Alert® portable Emergency Alert Radio with
AM/FM. This product is designed to exacting
standards, which provide reliability, long life and
outstanding performance.
Working with other Federal agencies and the
FCC’s new Emergency Alert System (EAS), NOAA
is the single source for weather and emergency
information available to the public.
For up-to-date information on NOAA and weather
frequencies used in your area, check the NOAA
National Weather Service website at:
This unit is designed to receive National Weather
Service (NWS) broadcasts, by NOAA Weather
Radio which provides information about weather
conditions, forecasts and hazard information 24
hours a day. Your First Alert® Emergency Alert
Radio will also alert you to emergency warnings or
watches issued by NOAA with its built-in siren.
The Department of Commerce’s National Oceanic
and Aerospace Administration (NOAA) provides
NOAA Weather Radio as a public service. NOAA
has more than 550 stations in the 50 states and
near adjacent coastal waters, Puerto Rico, the
U.S. Virgin Islands and the U.S. Pacific Territories.
The WX-17 Emergency Alert Radio receives all of
the seven NOAA channels. (NOTE: You have to
select the correct weather channel in order to
receive warnings for the state/county in which you

Alert Function: Your Emergency Alert Radio will
sound an alert tone when it receives a weather
emergency broadcast from NOAA.
The WX-17 is designed for portable operation.

Installation
Installing/replacing the batteries
Location Of Controls
The Emergency Alert Radio is designed to use
4 AA batteries (not included) as its primary power
source.
To install batteries:

Press down and slide down the battery
compartment door.

Install the batteries taking care to observe the
correct polarities as shown. Close compartment
door.
Do not mix old and new batteries. Do mix battery
types. Use alkaline batteries.
AC Operation:
Using the AC to DC adapter supplied with the unit
will disconnect the batteries automatically. Plug in
the wall adapter into a 120V AC outlet and plug
into jack (6 Volt DC). Only use the adapter
supplied with the unit.

EMERGENCY RADIO OPERATION
1. Select WB or ALERT.
2. Select the proper channel (out of 7) with the
Weather Band selector switch.
3. In WB: Turn the Volume knob to the desired
volume.
4. In ALERT: When NOAA sends out an
emergency warning, the radio will sound a
loud signal for 15 seconds.

When you are traveling with your radio and want
to use it in a new location, make sure you have
the correct Weather Channel (1-7). Verify that the
unit can be activated by the test broadcast in the
new location.
When you hear the loud signal, you MUST select
WB to hear further information about the
emergency.
REMEMBER-FOR YOUR SYSTEM TO BE EFFEC-
TIVE, YOU MUST PLACE THE RADIO IN A LOCA-
TION THAT CAN RECEIVE AN EMERGENCY
ALERT SIGNAL AND WHERE YOU CAN HEAR
THE ALERT TONE.
IMPORTANT!
The fact that you can get clear voice reception
does not guarantee that an emergency alert will
trigger your unit’s alert tone. To test actual recep-
tion, your unit must receive the weekly Test or
Emergency Alert Signal Broadcast.
Follow the instructions in the previous sections
and set the radio to ALERT to receive Test Alert
Broadcasts from the NWS station.
The National Weather Service (NWS) broadcasts a
Test Alert every week on Wednesday between
11AM and 12Noon. To find out the specific test

Service Procedure
To return the radio for Service,
Call 1-800-345-7462.
You may be asked to send your unit in for service.
It will be necessary to furnish the following in
order to have the product serviced and returned.
The manufacturer is not responsible for units
not received if the package has not been
properly insured.
1. For Warranty Repair, include some form of
proof-of-purchase. If you send the original
receipt it cannot be returned.
6. If the unit is in warranty, upon receipt of your
unit it will either be repaired or exchanged.
Please allow approximately 2 to 4 weeks for
your radio to be serviced. If the unit is out of
warranty, we will notify you of the repair charge
or replacement charge. If you have any ques-
tions, please call 800-345-7462 for assistance.
2. You must include the Emergency Alert System
Receiver unit and the power adapter.
3. Enclose a description of the problem with the
unit. Include a typed or clearly printed name
and address (No P.O. Box addresses) where
the unit is to be returned.
4. Pack the unit securely to prevent damage in
transit. If possible, use the original packing
material.
5. Ship the unit prepaid and insured by way of a
traceable carrier (to avoid loss in transit) such
as United Parcel Service (UPS), Roadway
Parcel Service (RPS) or First Class Insured.

90-Day Limited Warranty
Sima Products Corp. (“Company”) warrants that if
the accompanying product proves to be defective to
the original purchaser in material or workmanship
within 90 days from the original retail purchase, the
Company will, at the Company’s option, either repair
or replace same without charge (but no cash refund
will be made).
Limitation of Liability and Remedies
Sima shall have no liability for any damages due to
loss of profits, loss of use or anticipated benefits, or
other incidental, consequential, special or punitive
damages arising from the use of, or the inability to
use, this product, whether arising out of contract,
negligence, tort or under any warranty, even if Sima
has been advised of the possibility of such dam-
ages. Sima’s liability for damages in no event shall
exceed the amount paid for this product. Sima nei-
ther assumes nor authorizes anyone to assume for it
or any other liabilities.
