How To Put Batteries
How To Put Batteries In the Unit
1. Open the battery cover on the back of the Unit by pulling it toward you while pressing the tabs as shown by the arrows.
2. Put 3 memory backup batteries R6P(SUM-3)/AA(15F) (not supplied) in the battery compartment in the order of “1” to “3”.
3. Put 6 batteries R20/D (13F) (not supplied) in the battery compartment in the order of “1” to “6” as shown.
4. Securely close the battery cover.
Note: When you operate your Unit on mains (AC) power, the power source switches automatically from batteries to AC. However, you should
remove the batteries when operating on AC power.

Match the polarity (+ and –) on the batteries with the + and – markings in the battery compartment.

Using the Remote Control [RD-T70BU Only]
The Remote Control makes it easy to use many of the functions of the Unit from a distance of up to 7m (23 feet) away.
You need to point the Remote Control at the remote sensor on the Unit’s front panel.
Note: If you point the Remote Control from the slant direction, the above distance will be shortened.

Connecting the AC Power Cord
Firmly insert the AC power cord supplied with the System into the AC inlet on the back of the Unit.

ORDER TO AVOID MALFUNCTION OR DAMAGE TO THE SYSTEM.

can change to another source.
I If you were listening to the Tuner last, the Tuner comes on play-
ing the station it was last set to.
Adjusting the Volume
You can adjust the volume level between MIN (0) and MAX (32)
when the Unit is turned on.
Turn the VOLUME control on the Unit to the right
or left to increase or decrease the volume level.

Adjusting the dimmer level:
Connect a pair of headphones to the PHONES jack. No sound
(On the Unit only)
comes out of the speakers.
Be sure to turn down the volume before connecting or putting on
headphones.
1. With the Unit turned on, press and hold the DIMMER button
on the Unit until “DIMMER:XX” appears on the display.
2. Turn the Jog dial and adjust the dimmer level between 1 and 16.
3. Press the DIMMER button.
Reinforcing the Bass Sound
(AHB PRO) [RD-T70BU Only]
When operated on batteries ————
When the Unit is turned on, you can turn on the backlighting of the
display for a few seconds.
Each time you press the SNOOZE/DIMMER button, the backlight
turns on for a few seconds.
You can reinforce the bass sound to maintain rich, full bass at low
volume:
To get the effect, press the AHB (Active Hyper Bass) PRO button.
The “BASS” indicator lights up on the display.
To cancel the effect, press the button again.
The “BASS” indicator goes out.
Using Batteries
Power Batteries (6 pcs.):
You can operate the System on batteries. When the batteries are
exhausted, “NO BATT” will appear on the display. In this case, re-
place with the new batteries.
Tone Control (BASS/TREBLE)
You can control the tone by changing the bass and treble.
Memory Backup Batteries (3 pcs.):
Your settings such as the preset stations, clock and timer are backed
up with this batteries.
1. Press the BASS/TREBLE button until “BASS”

or “TREBLE” appears on the display.
Each time you press the button, the display changes as follows:
BASS =TREBLE =original display =(back to the beginning)
CAUTION:
If memory backup batteries are exhausted or not
installed, and the AC power cord is disconnected
or there is a power failure, the settings you have
made will be erased from memory in approx. half
a day.
2. Turn the Jog dial on the Unit or press the

VOLUME +/– button on the Remote Control
to adjust the level.
The bass or treble level changes between –6 and +6. (0: Flat)
To exit the tone control mode, press the BASS/TREBLE but-
ton until the original display appears, or wait for 15 seconds.
To forcibly reset the bass and treble levels to 0 (FLAT),
press the BASS/TREBLE button for 2 seconds or more.
Showing the Time (CLOCK/
DISPLAY)
While listening to a CD or the radio, you can see the current time.
To display the clock, press the CLOCK/DISPLAY button on the
Unit.
To return to the original display, press the same button until
the original display appears.
Note: You need to set the clock first in order for it to work. (See
“Setting the Clock” on page 9.)
Adjusting the Brightness
(DIMMER) [RD-T70BU Only]
When operated on AC power ———
You can switch the brightness of the display’s backlighting (full
light and dimmed light). In addition, the dimmed backlighting
brightness can be changed in 16 steps.
When the Unit is turned on:
Each time you press the SNOOZE/DIMMER button, the backlight
fully turns on or dims.
When the Unit is turned off (Standby):
Each time you press the SNOOZE/DIMMER button, the backlight
dims or turns off.
When the Sleep Timer is on:
You can also dim or turn off the backlight with the SNOOZE/DIM-
MER button.

You can listen to FM and AM stations. Stations can be tuned in
manually, automatically, or from preset memory storage.

Setting the Antenna
For FM reception:
Extend the built-in wire antenna to obtain the best reception.

to frequency until you find the station you want.

After you have selected the preset number, the band and the fre-

playing the station you were last tuned to.
I You can also switch from the CD Player to the radio by pressing
the TUNER BAND button.

The “STEREO” indicator lights up and you can hear stereo effects,
when a program is broadcast in stereo.
1. Select a band by pressing the TUNER

However if an FM stereo broadcast is hard to receive or noisy, you
can select Monaural mode. Reception improves, but you lose any
stereo effect.
2. Press the 7 button on the Unit until “MAN-

MONO mode.
The “MONO” indicator lights up on the display.
To restore the stereo effect, press the TUNER BAND button
to select FM Auto mode. The “MONO” indicator goes out.

set to repeat all or just one of the tracks on the CD.

Using the number keys on the Remote Control, you can go directly
to the beginning of any track.
During playback, enter the number of the track you want
to listen to using the number keys.
The selected track starts playing.

You can enjoy timer settings with the unique dual timer, consisting
of the Timer 1 and Timer 2. These Timers can independently select
a playback source from the CD player (Normal Play or Random
Play), Tuner, or 8 melodies. For example, you can make up to a mel-
ody every morning with the Timer 1, and without changing the Tim-
er 1 setting, you can listen to the favorite program by reserving it
with the Timer 2. Also, you can use the Sleep Timer to fall asleep
to music. Your System automatically turns off after a certain length
of time.
3.Press the CLOCK/DISPLAY button.

“CLOCK OK” appears for 2 seconds. The selected time is set
and the seconds start counting from 0.
Setting the Timer
The Timer 1 or Timer 2 is turned on at the set time and the System
turns on. The selected source is played and the volume fades in. The
System will automatically turn off in 1 hour.
The setting procedure for the Timer 1 and Timer 2 is identical.
Notes:
• Perform each setting step within 30 seconds. Otherwise, setting is
cleared and the procedure must be repeated from the beginning.
• Tuner timer uses the preset station. So, you need to preset the sta-
tions in Preset Tuning mode beforehand. See, “Presetting Sta-
tions” on page 6.
CAUTION: If memory backup batteries are ex-
hausted or not installed, and the AC power cord is
disconnected or there is a power failure, time set-
tings will be erased from memory in approx. half
a day. Then, the display blinks “AM 12:00”. If this
happens, set the current time (clock) and perform
the timer setting again.
Setting the Clock
When the Unit is operated on AC power or batteries for the first
time, the time indication “AM 12:00” will blink on the display and
you need to set the clock.
(On the Unit: While the Unit is turned on)
You can set the clock whether the Unit is turned on or off (Standby)
if the AC power is supplied to the Unit.
Notes:
• The clock must be correctly set for the timer to work.
• The clock may gain or lose 1 to 2 minutes per month.
• Perform each setting step within 30 seconds. Otherwise, setting is
cleared and the procedure must be repeated from the beginning.

Compact Discs
Handle your CDs carefully, and they will last a long time.

Only CDs bearing these marks can be played
with this Unit.

Continued use of irregularly shaped CDs
(heart-shape, octagonal, etc.) can damage the
Unit.
•

Remove the CD from its case by holding it at
the edges while pressing the case's center hole
lightly.
Do not touch the shiny surface of the CD, or
bend the CD.

Put the CD back in its case after use to prevent
warping.
Be careful not to scratch the surface of the CD
when placing it back in the case.
Avoid exposure to direct sunlight, temperature
extremes, and moisture.
•
A dirty CD may not play correctly. If a CD is
dirty, wipe it with a soft cloth in a straight line
from center to edge.
CAUTION: Do not use any solvent (for example,
conventional record cleaner, spray thinner, ben-
zine, etc.) to clean a CD.
Moisture Condensation
Moisture may condense on the lens inside the Unit in the following
cases:

After turning on heating in the room.
In a damp room.
If the Unit is brought directly from a cold to a warm place.
Should this occur, the Unit may malfunction. If this happens, leave
it turned on for a few hours until the moisture evaporates, unplug the
AC power cord, and then plug it in again.

To ensure top performance, keep your CDs and the mechanism clean.

Store CDs in their cases, and keep them in cabinets or on
shelves.

Keep the CD cover closed when not in use.
