TELEPHONE JACK REQUIREMENTS

To use this phone, you need an RJ 11C type m odular telephone jack,

which m ight look like the one pictured here, installed in your hom e.

If you don’t have a m odular jack, call your local phone com pany to

find out how to get one installed.

INSTALLATION

DESKTOP INSTALLATION

1. Plug the coiled cord into the jack on the handset and the jack on the side of the base.

2. Place the handset in the cradle.

3. Plug one end of the long straight telephone line cord into the LINE jack on the back of the

base, and plug the other end into a m odular telephone (wall) jack.

4. Connect the power supply into the POWER 9V AC jack on the back of the base. Plug the

other end into an electrical (AC) outlet. The unit beeps once and is ready for setup or to

answer calls with the default greeting and settings.

NOTE: The phone automatically defaults to touch-tone dialing. To change to pulse

(rotary) dialing, see “Setting the Dialing Mode.” If you don’t know which type of service

you have, check with the phone company.

CAUTION: Only use the ATLINKS USA 5-2434 power supply that came with this

unit. Using other power supplies may damage the unit.

WALL MOUNT INSTALLATION

1. Carefully turn the phone over. Detach the m ounting

bracket by pressing the tabs in. Turn the bracket

around so that it looks like the diagram . Align the

tabs on the bracket with the slots on the base and

gently press the bracket down until it snaps into

place. Turn the phone back over.

2. Plug one end of the short telephone line cord into the

LINE jack on the back of the base, and feed the cord

through the grooves on the bottom of the base so

that the phone rests flat against the wall. Plug the

other end into a m odular telephone (wall) jack.

3. Connect one end of the power supply to the POWER

9V AC jack on the back of the base. Plug the other end

into an electrical (AC) outlet. The unit beeps once and

is ready for setup or to answer calls with the default

greeting and settings.

4. Rem ove the handset hook, turn it upside down, and

press it back into the slot until it clicks into place. This

prevents the handset from falling out of the cradle

while hanging on the wall.

5. Plug the coiled cord into the jack on the handset and

the jack on the side of the base.

6. Slip the m ounting holes (on bottom of unit) over the

wall plate posts and slide the base down into place.

7. Place the handset in the cradle.

NOTE: The phone automatically defaults to touch-tone dialing. To change to pulse

(rotary) dialing, see “Setting the Dialing Mode.” If you don’t know which type of service

you have, check with the phone company.

MOVING THE ANSWERING SYSTEM

1. Disconnect the phone line from the m odular telephone (wall) jack.

2. Unplug the power supply from the electrical outlet.

3. Move the unit and line cords to the desired location.

4. Connect the power supply to an electrical (AC) outlet. The display shows that the

m essages have not been erased.

5. Connect the phone line.

6. Reset the tim e/date settings or wait for the next call to set them autom atically.

This setting allows you to adjust the display contrast for

easier readability.

INCOMING MESSAGE LENGTH

This setting allows you to set the m axim um length of

tim e allowed for incom ing m essages. You can choose

from 1-4 m inutes.

1. If you just adjusted the Local Area Code m enu, skip to

and release the MENU button until

MESSAGE LENGTH is displayed.

(1-4) for the desired setting.

RINGS TO ANSWER

This setting allows you to set the num ber of rings before

the unit answers a call. You can choose from 2-8 or Toll

Saver (see “Toll Saver.”)

TOLL SAVER

Toll Saver can save you the cost of a call when you

access your m essages from another phone:

You can hang up after the 3rd ring and save the pay

telephone or long distance charge.

SECURITY CODE

This feature allows you to change the factory default

rem ote access code used for rem ote access to you

answering system . The default code is 123.

1. If you just adjusted the Rings to Answer m enu, skip to

step 2. If you haven’t adjusted any other setting, press

and release the MENU button until REMOTE ACCESS

is displayed.

or pulse (rotary) m ode dialing. The phone is

autom atically set for touch-tone use.

REGIONAL AREA CODES

Depending on your area, you m ay need to set regional

area codes. These are needed in order for the phone to

determ ine the num ber form at to be displayed when a

valid Caller ID signal is received. Calls received that

m atch any of the regional area codes are displayed as 10

digits. If the num ber is not displayed correctly, the

phone m ay not be able to dial back the num ber

properly. You can store up to 6 regional area codes.

TIP: You can use the keypad to enter all the digits in one

RECORDING THE GREETING

Before using your new answering system , you should

record a greeting (the announcem ent callers hear when

your answering system answers a call). If you don't

record a greeting, callers hear a default greeting which

says, "We are unable to take your call. Please leave a message.

Thank you for calling."

When recording the greeting you should be about 6

inches from the unit. Elim inate as m uch background

noise as possible.

1. Prepare your greeting.

Sample Greeting: Hi, this is (use your name here). I can’t

answer the phone right now, so please leave your name, number,

and a brief message after the tone, and I’ll get back to you.

Thanks for calling.

RECEIVING A PHONE CALL

1. When the phone rings and the caller’s inform ation

shows on the display, lift the handset or press the

SPEAKER button and begin your conversation.

2. You can adjust the volum e of the caller’s voice by

pressing the VOL up or down buttons.

PLACING A PHONE CALL

1. Lift the handset or press the SPEAKER button and

wait for a dial tone.

2. Dial the telephone num ber you wish to call.

3. You can adjust the volum e of the caller’s voice by

pressing the VOL up or down buttons.

SWITCHING BETWEEN SPEAKER AND

You can switch between speakerphone and handset

while the phone is dialing a num ber, or anytim e during

a conversation.

If you have pulse service, you can tem porarily change

from pulse to tone service. After dialing the telephone

num ber, press and release the TONE (*) button on the

telephone. This allows access to phone services that

require a tone, such as banking and long-distance

services. After you hang up the handset, the telephone

autom atically returns to pulse service.

FLASH

Press the FLASH button instead of using the hook switch to

activate customer calling services such as call waiting or call

transfer, which are provided by your local phone company.

REDIAL

Redial the last num ber you called by pressing the

REDIAL button after you get a dial tone.

NOTE: The Redial feature holds in memory the last

phone number you dialed (as many as 63 digits). If

you pressed any numbers after dialing the phone

number, (for example, when accessing a voice-menu

system) those numbers also are redialed.

IMPORTANT: In the event of a power outage, your

phone will still be able to make and receive calls,

though the ringer, speakerphone, and answering

system will not work.

Use the VOL buttons to adjust the loudness of the ringer

when the handset is in the cradle of the base. The phone

gives a sam ple ring when adjusting.

Use the VOL buttons to adjust the handset listening

volum e when it is not in the cradle.

ANSWERING SYSTEM OPERATION

When a call com es in, the unit will ring the num ber of tim es set, play the greeting, and record

the incom ing call.

You can:

•

Answer the call before the unit answers.

Pick up the phone during the greeting.

Listen to the incom ing m essage (Call screening).

Disconnect the caller by pressing the STOP button.

back messages and while reviewing or changing the setting.

AUTODISCONNECT

Autodisconnect is a feature that tells the unit to stop

playing the greeting or recording when a extension

phone is picked up. Som etim es you m ay pick up and the

m achine keeps playing the greeting. This is norm al. If

you want to pick up the phone during the greeting play,

wait about two seconds after the system answers before

picking up a phone.

If the greeting continues to play after picking up an

PLAYING MESSAGES

Use the PLAY/STOP button to play m essages. The unit

first plays new m essages in the order received. If there

are no m essages, the unit announces, “You have no

messages.” If there are no new m essages, the old

m essages are played back.

To play m essages, press and release PLAY/STOP.

To stop playback, press and release PLAY/STOP again.

To restart the m essage that is playing, press and hold

PREVIOUS until the m essage restarts.

To replay the previous message, press and release PREVIOUS.

To play the next m essage, press and release NEXT.

LEAVING A MEMO

Use the MEMO button to record a specific m essage for

others who have access to the unit.

1. Press and hold the MEMO button. The unit

announces, “Record your memo after the tone.”

2. Record your m essage after the beep.

3. Release MEMO when you’re finished talking. The unit

treats the m em o as a m essage, as the display shows.

MEMORY FULL

When the unit's m em ory is full, it answers after 10 rings

and announces, “Memory is full. No messages will be recorded.”

A 20-second waiting period follows, allowing you to

enter your security code.

REMOTE ACCESS

You can access your answering system from any touch-tone phone from another location by

entering your 3-digit security code (the default security code is 1 2 3, but you can change it.)

Be aware that rem ote functions do not work with rotary or push-button pulse-dialing

phones.

To access your answering system:

1. Call your telephone num ber.

2. After you hear the beep that follows the greeting, enter your 3-digit security code. The unit

confirm s your code with a beep. To bypass the greeting, you can enter your 3-digit

security code any tim e while the greeting is playing.

The unit waits for a rem ote com m and for 20 seconds after the correct security code has been

entered. Menu selections can be m ade while the m enu is playing.

NOTE: The unit answers on the 10th ring when it is turned off or the memory is full. To

access the answering system, enter the 3-digit security code after the beep. If memory is

full, play messages and erase some of them to restore memory.

NOTE: After the unit plays the remote menu, it waits 20 seconds for a command, then

disconnects.

Note the following guidelines when using the

speakerphone:

The speakerphone works sim ilar to a two-way radio in

that you can only listen or talk at one tim e.

Stay reasonably close to the phone so that you can be

clearly heard by the person to whom you are talking.

You can adjust the speaker volum e by pressing the

VOL up or down buttons.

The speakerphone indicator com es on when the

speakerphone is in use.

listening volum e while it is in use.

CALLER ID (CID)

The unit receives and displays inform ation transm itted

by your local phone com pany. This inform ation can

include the phone num ber, date, and tim e; or the nam e,

phone num ber, date, and tim e. The unit can store up to

99 calls for later review.

SUMMARY SCREEN

The sum m ary screen shows the current tim e, current

date and num ber of new calls to be reviewed. It is

displayed until any button is pressed. Within 10 seconds

of receiving a new call, the sum m ary screen is displayed

and the NEW CALL indicator com es on.

CALL WAITING CALLER ID

Provided you subscribe to Call Waiting Caller ID service

from your phone com pany, you m ay see who is calling

when you hear the call waiting beep in the receiver. The

caller identification inform ation appears in the display

after you hear the tone.

Press the FLASH button to put the current call on hold

so that you can answer the incom ing call.

RECEIVING AND STORING CID RECORDS

The unit receives and displays inform ation transm itted

by your local phone com pany. This inform ation m ay

include the phone num ber, date, and tim e; or the nam e,

for the unit to return to the ready-to-answer mode.

DISPLAY MESSAGES

The following special m essages indicate the status of a m essage or the unit:

00 CALLS

The call record log is em pty.

UNKNOWN CALLER The incom ing call does not have Caller ID service or their service area is

not linked to yours. If UNKNOWN NAME appears along with a calling

num ber, the nam e inform ation for that num ber was not available.

BLOCKED CALL

The caller is registered as “Private Num ber” and the Caller ID

inform ation is withheld.

ERROR

Caller inform ation has been interrupted during transm ission.

Indicates you are at the beginning or the end of the call record log.

MEMO

The m essage has been recorded as a m em o.

MEMORY

You can store up to 13 num bers in m em ory for quick dialing – 3 in the quick dial buttons and

10 in the keypad num bers (0-9).

2. Use the keypad to enter the phone num ber. If you

want to add spaces instead of dashes in the num ber,

You can also store Caller ID records in memory. Rather than

re-entering the information the traditional way, you can

store the record in a memory location or quick dial button.

1. Use the NEXT or PREVIOUS buttons to scroll to the

Caller ID record you want to store.

2. Press STORE.

3. Press the m em ory location num ber (0-9 or A, B, C) to

store the record.

INSERTING A PAUSE IN THE DIALING

SEQUENCE

Press the REDIAL/PAUSE button to insert a delay in the

dialing sequence of a stored telephone num ber when a

pause is needed to wait for a dial tone (for exam ple after

you dial 9 for an outside line, or to wait for a com puter

access tone). Each pause counts as 1 digit in the dialing

sequence.

TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS

TELEPHONE SOLUTIONS

No dial tone. Won't dial out.

•

Check or repeat installation steps.

Check the hook switch to m ake sure it pops up.

Make sure the dialing m ode is set to the type of service you are subscribed to.

Phone doesn’t ring.

•

Check the ringer volum e.

You m ay have too m any extension phones on your line. Try unplugging som e phones.

Low handset receiver or speaker volum e.

Check the volum e settings.

Can’t be heard by other party.

Make sure the phone cord is securely plugged in.

Mem ory dialing.

Make sure you entered the num bers correctly. (See "Mem ory.")

•

ANSWERING SYSTEM SOLUTIONS

Doesn’t answer, or answers on 10th ring.

•

Make sure the answering system is turned on.

Mem ory is full, erase som e m essages.

Check the AC power and phone line connections.

Incom ing m essages are incom plete.

•

Was an extension phone picked up?

The caller left a m essage that is longer than the m essage length you set during setup.

Mem ory is full.

Won’t respond to rem ote com m ands.

•

Must use a touch-tone phone.

Must enter the correct security code.

Did unit hang up? If you take no action for a period of tim e, it autom atically hangs up.

Answering system doesn't work.

•

Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet and plug it back in to reset the

answering system .

After the unit is plugged in, FLASH ERROR is displayed

Unplug the unit and plug it back in. If the m essage appears again, the unit needs service.

Can't hear m essages.

Adjust the volum e control.

Greeting continues to play even after an extension phone is picked up.

•

This is norm al operation. Auto disconnect is delayed for 1 second after the unit answers a

call. If you are near the unit, press PLAY/STOP to stop the greeting.

No inform ation is shown after the phone rings.

•

Wait for the second ring to view CID records.

Check all cabling to m ake sure that all connections are secure and not dam aged.

You m ust be subscribed to Caller ID service from your local telephone com pany to receive

Caller ID records.

Error m essage is displayed.

•

ERROR appears in the display if the unit detects anything other than valid Caller ID

inform ation during the silent period after the first ring. This m essage indicates either the

presence of noise on the line, or that an invalid m essage has been sent from the

telephone com pany?

What your warranty covers:

Provide you with a new or, at our option, a refurbished unit. The exchange unit is under warranty for the remainder of the original product’s

and packing materials.

”Proof of purchase in the form of a bill of sale or receipted invoice which is evidence that the product is within the warranty period, must

INFORMACIÓN SOBRE LA APROBACIÓN DE EQUIPO

El equipo de su teléfono esta aprobado para la conexión con la red Telefónica Pública (Public Switched Telephone Network) y cumple con los

requisitos establecidos en las secciones 15 y 68 de las Reglas y Regulaciones de la FCC y con los Requerimientos Técnicos para Equipos de

Terminales Telefónicas (Technical Requirements for Telephone Terminal Equipment), publicado por ACTA.

Notificación a la Compañía Telefónica Local

En la parte de abajo de este equipo hay una etiqueta que indica, entre otra información, el número de US y el Número de Equivalencia de

Timbres (REN) para este equipo. Usted debe, cuando sea requerido, proveer esta información a su compañía telefónica.

El REN es útil para determinar el número total de artefactos que Ud. puede conectar a su línea telefónica, todavía asegurando que todos

estos artefactos sonarán cuando se llame su número telefónico. En la mayoría de las áreas (pero no en todas), el total de los números REN

Derechos de la Compañía Telefónica

Si su equipo causase algún problema en su línea que pudiera dañar la red telefónica, la compañía telefónica siempre que sea posible le

avisará de la posible interrupción temporal de su servicio. En caso que la compañía no pudiera avisarle de antemano y hubiera necesidad

de tomar tal acción, la compañía telefónica podrá interrumpir su servicio inmediatemente. En caso de tal interrupción telefónica temporal

la compañía debe : (1) darle aviso al momento de tal interrupción temporal de servico, (2) concederle a Ud. la oportunidad de corregir la

situación, (3) informarle a Ud. de sus derechos de presentar una questa a la Comisión de acuerdo con los procedimientos dictados en la

Subparte E de la Parte 68 de las Regulaciones y Reglas de la FCC.

La compañía telefónica puede hacer los cambios en sus instalaciones de comunicación, en equipos, en sus funcionamientos o

procedimientos que digne necesarios para el manejo de sus negocios y que no sean incompatibles con las Reglas y Regulaciones de l a

FCC. Si estos cambios pudieran alterar el uso o el funcionamiento de su equipo telefónico, la compañía telefónica deberá darle aviso

INSTALACIÓN

INSTALACIÓN SOBRE SUPERFICIE PLANA

1. Conecte el cable espiral dentro del enchufe en el auricular y en el enchufe localizado al costado

de la base.

2. Coloque el auricular en su sitio sobre la base.

3. Conecte un extrem o del cable telefónico liso en el enchufe m arcado “LINE” en la parte posterior

de la base, y conecte el otro extrem o en un enchufe telefónico m odular (de pared).

4. Conecte el cable de corriente en el enchufe m arcado “POWER 9V AC” en la parte posterior de la

base. Conecte el otro extrem o en un enchufe de corriente eléctrica (AC) en la pared. El aparato

em ite un tono y está listo para ser program ado o para contestar llam adas con las

program aciones y el m ensaje de fábrica.

NOTA: El teléfono automáticamente revierte a la modalidad para marcar por tono

(“touch-tone”). Para cambiar a modalidad de pulso (rotatorio), vea la sección “Cómo

Marcar por Pulso/Tono.” Si usted no sabe qué tipo de servicio tiene, verifique con su

compañía telefónica.

INSTALACIÓN SOBRE PARED

1. Cuidadosam ente, volteé el teléfono de cabeza. Quite la

placa para m ontaje oprim iendo las lengüetas hacia

adentro. Gire la placa a que quede com o el diagram a.

Alinee las lengüetas en la placa con las ranuras en la

base y oprim a suavem ente la placa hacia abajo a que

entre en su sitio. Vuelva a voltear el teléfono al derecho.

2. Conecte un extrem o del cable telefónico corto dentro del

enchufe m arcado “LINE” en la parte trasera de la base,

y alim ente el cable a través de las ranuras en la parte de

abajo de la base de m anera que el teléfono quede plano

contra la pared. Conecte el otro extrem o en un enchufe

telefónico m odular (de pared).

4. Quite el gancho del auricular, gírelo a que quede de

cabeza, y vuelva a m eterlo dentro de la ranura hasta que

entre en su sitio. Esto evita que el auricular se caiga

cuando está colgado en la pared.

5. Conecte el cable espiral dentro del enchufe en el

auricular y en el enchufe localizado al costado de la

base.

6. Deslice los agujeros para m ontaje (en la parte de abajo del aparato) sobre los postecitos de la

placa para m ontaje y deslice la base hacia abajo a que entre en su sitio.

7. Coloque el auricular sobre la base.

NOTA: El teléfono automáticamente revierte a la modalidad para marcar por tono

(“touch-tone”). Para cambiar a modalidad de pulso (rotatorio), vea la sección “Cómo

PARA MOVER EL SISTEMA CONTESTADOR

1. Desconecte la línea telefónica del enchufe m odular (de pared).

2. Desconecte el cable de corriente del enchufe eléctrico.

3. Mueva los cables de línea del aparato a la localización deseada.

4. Conecte el cable de corriente eléctrica (AC) en un enchufe de pared. La pantalla m uestra que los

m ensajes no han sido borrados.

6. Conecte la línea telefónica.

7. Vuelva a program ar la fecha y hora o espere a que se program en autom áticam ente al entrar la

prim era llam ada.

El Ahorrador de Cargos le puede ahorrar el costo de una llam ada cuando usted tiene acceso a sus

m ensajes desde otro teléfono:

Si usted tiene m ensajes nuevos, el aparato contesta después del segundo tim bre.

Si usted no tiene m ensajes nuevos, el aparato contesta después del quinto tim bre.

Usted puede colgar después del tercer tim bre y ahorrarse pagar el costo de la llam ada o el cargo

de larga distancia.

CÓDIGO DE SEGURIDAD

Esta program ación le perm ite cam biar el código de acceso rem oto program ado de fábrica que se

utiliza para tener acceso a su contestador desde otra localización. El código pre-program ado es 123.

Auto-desconectar es una función que le dice al aparato que

CÓMO DEJAR UN RECADO (MEMO)

Utilice el botón “MEMO” para dejar un recado específico a otras personas que tienen acceso al

aparato.

1. Oprim a y sostenga el botón “MEMO”. El aparato le pide que grabe su m ensaje después del tono

(“Record your memo after the tone.”).

2. Grabe su recado después del bip.

3. Suelte el botón “MEMO” cuando haya term inado de hablar. El aparato trata los recados com o si

fueran m ensajes, com o lo m uestra la pantalla.

MEMORIA LLENA

Cuando la m em oria del aparato está llena, éste contesta después de 10 tim bres y anuncia que la

m em oria está llena y que no se grabará el m ensaje (“Memory is full. No messages will be recorded.”). A

esto le sigue un periodo de espera de 20 segundos, lo cual le perm ite inscribir su código de

seguridad.

ACCESO REMOTO

Usted puede tener acceso a su contestador desde cualquier teléfono con m odalidad para m arcar

por tono en otra localización, sim plem ente inscribiendo su código de seguridad de 3 dígitos (el

código program ado de fábrica es 123, pero usted puede cam biarlo). Observe que las funciones

rem otas no sirven con teléfonos de pulso o rotatorios.

Cómo tener acceso a su contestador:

1. Llam e a su núm ero telefónico.

2. Después de que usted escucha el bip que sigue al saludo, inscriba su código de seguridad de 3

dígitos. El aparato confirm a su código con un bip. Para saltarse el saludo, usted puede inscribir

su código de seguridad en cualquier m om ento m ientras el saludo se está reproduciendo.

El aparato espera al com ando rem oto durante 20 segundos después de que el código de seguridad

correcto ha sido inscrito. Se pueden hacer las selecciones de m enú m ientras se reproduce dicho

m enú.

NOTA: El aparato contesta al décimo timbre cuando está desactivado o la memoria está

llena. Para tener acceso al contestador, inscriba los 3 dígitos de su código de seguridad

después del tono. Si la memoria está llena, reproduzca los mensajes y borre algunos de

ellos para recuperar memoria.

NOTA: Después de que el aparato reproduce el menú de funciones remotas, se espera

20 segundos para recibir un comando, y después se desconecta.
