Equipped with a 5 megapixel camera and Carl Zeiss optics,
the Nokia N900 lets you take high-quality pictures, tag them
for easy reference by topic or location with geotagging and

N900 gives you a computer-like experience in an all-in-one

Get the latest software and applications with over-the-air
Maemo updates. Most updates are done automatically and wirelessly.
With the optimized mobile email experience of the Nokia N900, you can enjoy full access to
your personal or work email, even when you’re on the move. The Nokia N900 lets you take
advantage of fast data connections, a QWERTY keyboard and intelligent predictive text.
Set up personal email
To set up your personal email (POP3/IMAP4) accounts:
1. From the desktop, tap the Applications menu icon (
2. Tap Email icon ( ) and tap Next.

3. Tap your Region and Service Provider and tap Next.
4. Name your account and tap Next.
5. Enter your name, user name, password, email address and tap Next.
6. Tap Finish.
After you’ve set up one mailbox, tap the Email toolbar at
the top of the screen and tap New Account to set up additional accounts.
Set up business email
To set up your business email with the Mail for Exchange:
1. From the desktop, tap the Applications menu icon (
2. Tap Email icon ( ) and tap Next.
3. Tap your Region.

4. Tap Mail for Exchange as your Service Provider and tap Next.
5. Type your user name, password, domain and tap Next.
6. Type account server and port information and tap Next.
7. Tap Finish.
You may need the help of your office network administrator to complete setup.
You will need an Exchange e-mail account and your Exchange Administrator must have enabled your account for
synchronization. Please contact your Exchange administrator or e-mail account provider for details, including the
Exchange Server name and domain, your username and password, and the access point for your wireless carrier.
Read email
To read your email:
1. From the desktop, tap the Applications
menu icon (
).
2. Tap the Email icon ( ) and tap Next.
3. Select your email account.
4. Tap the message to view email.
Embedded web links display in emails. Select the link
to launch the browser.
Reply to an email and add an attachment
To reply to email:
1. From the desktop, tap the Applications menu icon (
2. Tap the Email icon ( ) and tap Next.
3. Tap your email account.
).
4. Tap message to view.
5. Tap Reply or Reply all ( ).
6. Slide out the QWERTY keyboard and type your message.
7. Tap the toolbar for options.
8. Select Add attachment and select the type of file to send.
9. Tap the Send icon (

Change your text settings by selecting different font faces,
sizes and colors. You can also bold and italicize your text.

The Maemo web browser platform is powered by Mozilla technology, and web
browsing capabilities include Adobe Flash™ 9.4 support. The Nokia N900 supports
Wi-Fi standards 802.11 b and g. This device is also 3G capable in non Wi-Fi areas,
but a Wi-Fi connection is recommended.
Visit your favorite websites, get connected and stay connected by taking advantage
of the Nokia N900. This device is Nokia’s most powerful mobile computer and offers
full-screen browsing capabilities with visual history.
Using the Web browser
To access the Web:
1. From the desktop, tap the Applications menu icon (
).
2. Tap Web.
3. Select a pre-loaded website or enter an URL and press the Return key ( ).
Tap the Add icon ( ) to create a bookmark for easy access
to websites you visit often. Tap the Folder icon ( ) for a list
of current bookmarks.
Requires 3G (WCDMA/UMTS) service. 3G service may not be available in all networks. The establishment
and continuation of a 3G connection depends on network availability, provider support and signal
strength.
Wi-Fi data streams offer an optimized experience when compared to operator data services. If you disable
Wi-Fi and use this device on the T-Mobile network, you can expect to receive 3G connection speeds. On the
AT&T network, you can expect to receive 2.5G connection speeds when Wi-Fi is disabled.
To use Wi-Fi connectivity a wireless Local Area Network (wireless LAN) must be available and the device must
be physically within the range of the wireless LAN network.
Make your desktop an easy-to-use portal to your online world by creating shortcuts to
your favorites. The Nokia N900 offers up to 32 GB of internal memory and supports up
to 48 GB via microSD card.
Enjoy the power of true application multitasking. This device can support up to four
customized screens, swiping from left to right. Each screen can be personalized so you
can quickly view your top shortcuts, contacts, bookmarks and widgets. The desktop
makes it easy to get message alerts, RSS feeds and updates at a glance. With all of
your favorites at your fingertips, you can multitask with ease!
Customize your desktop
To customize your desktop:
1. Tap the desktop. The Desktop menu icon ( ) displays.
2. Tap the Desktop menu icon ( ).
3. Tap the Desktop menu toolbar.
4. Choose from the following options: Add shortcut, Add contact, Add bookmark,
Add widget, Change background and Manage views and themes.
Quickly send messages on the go. The Nokia N900 offers threaded text messaging and
threaded instant messaging, and it is also equipped with a slide out QWERTY keyboard.
Send a text message
To send a text message:
1. From the desktop, tap the
Applications menu icon (
).
2. Tap Conversations.
3. Tap New SMS to create a new text message.
4. Tap To and select the name of the person(s)
receiving your message.
5. Type your message.
6. Tap Send.
See the availability of your Ovi, Google Talk, Skype and other IM contacts
and choose the best way to get in touch—all from the same view.
Sign in to instant messenger
To sign in:
1. From the desktop, tap the
Applications menu icon (
).
2. Tap Conversations.
3. Tap the Conversations toolbar.
4. Tap Account.
5. Tap New.
6. Tap your account service.
7. Type your user name and password.
8. Tap Sign in.
Send an instant message
To send an IM:
1. From the desktop, tap the
Applications menu icon (
).
2. Tap Conversations.
3. Tap New IM to sign in to messaging service.
4. Tap a contact.
5. Type your message.
6. Tap the Return icon ( ) to send.

Nokia’s exclusive Application Manager offers downloadable tools that increase
productivity, cure boredom and assist with daily tasks. The open-source platform
of Maemo allows developers the flexibility to create unique applications and
widgets that make your life easier.
Download applications
To download an application:
1. From the desktop, tap the
Applications menu icon (
2. Tap More.
).
3. Tap Application Manager.
4. Tap Download.
5. View all categories or tap a specific
category to view.
6. Tap an application to download,
such as Documents-To-Go Installer.
7. Tap Continue to download. Once the
application downloads, it displays in
the Menu.
Documents-To-Go is a helpful application that
lets you create, use, and edit Microsoft Word
and Excel files. Using InTact Technology™,
your formatting will remain intact regardless
of where you open the file.

Pictures and video are now clearer than ever using optics by Carl Zeiss Tessar. Every
image you capture will look like a piece of art. The Nokia N900 offers a 5 megapixel
camera with 8x digital zoom, dual LED flash and an f/2.8 aperture. Record video up
to 25 frames per second at up to 848 x 480 pixels (WVGA).
Add context to your pictures or retrieve them instantly using the tagging feature.
Let your friends know where you’re having fun by adding geotags to your pictures
and then upload them to Ovi Share.
Tag photos
To tag a photo:
1. From the desktop, tap the
Applications menu icon (
2. Tap Photos.
).
3. Tap desired photo to tag.
4. Tap the Tag icon ( ) to edit.
5. Tap existing tags or create a tag
by tapping New.
6. Type text and tap Done.
Set geotags
To enable automatic geotagging:
1. From the desktop, tap the
Applications menu icon (
2. Tap Camera.
).
3. Tap the Camera toolbar to launch
the menu.
4. Tap Geotagging.
5. Tap Enable geotagging and tap Done.
To manually geotag a photo:
1. From the desktop, tap the
Applications menu icon (
).
2. Tap Photos.
3. Tap the photo you want to geotag.
4. Tap the Tag icon ( ) to edit.
5. Tap Geotags.
6. Tap the country, city and district
and tap Done.
7. Select existing tags or create a tag
by tapping New.
8. Type tag text and tap Done.
Upload pictures to Ovi Share
With Ovi Share, you get free, unlimited storage for your videos and photos. You can upload
photos from your PC or from your Nokia N900, and you can share your experiences with
friends and family.
Create an Ovi Share account from your phone or
Sign up now. When you access Ovi Share for the
first time, the program will prompt you to create
an account.
To share photos using Ovi Share:
1. From the desktop, tap the
Applications menu icon (
2. Tap Photos.
).
3. Tap the All images toolbar.
4. Tap Share images.
5. Tap the photos you want to share.
6. Tap Share.
7. Tap Share via service.

The Nokia N900 Maemo 5 media player supports music, video and Internet radio.
Use Bluetooth connectivity or a compatible USB data cable to synchronize your music
and video files. Shuffle music and listen to stereo-quality audio, or watch DVD-quality
video. Store 32 GB of data or expand your memory up to 48 GB.
View media
To view videos on your device:
1. From the desktop, tap the
Applications menu icon (

Transfer content
Use your USB connector to easily transfer data to and from your device. Fill and refill
your device with music and video quickly with a transfer speed of up to 10 MB/s.
To transfer music and videos to or from
your compatible device:
1. From the desktop, tap the
Applications menu icon (
2. Tap Settings.

3. Tap Transfer & sync.
4. Select the transfer or synchronization
method.
5. Select the device you wish to retrieve
or send data.
6. Pair or connect devices.
7. Upload or download content.
8. Tap Finish.
Listen to music using the FM transmitter
Play your music out loud! With the built-in FM transmitter on the Nokia N900, you can
wirelessly stream music from your device to the FM stereo in your car, at home or at work.
The built-in FM transmitter blasts your playlists and Internet radio stations in high-quality
sound over your stereo speakers.
To use the FM transmitter:
1. From the desktop, tap the
Applications menu icon (
2. Tap Media player.
3. Tap Music.
).
4. Tap Recently added.
5. Tap the song you want to play.
6. Tap the Now playing toolbar.
7. Tap FM Transmitter.
8. Tap Frequency.
9. Set your frequency to a blank
radio station.
10. Tap Done.
11. Tap FM Transmitter on.
12. Tap Save. The song plays on your
FM stereo. Use the volume control on
the FM stereo to adjust the volume.
Pre-loaded to your device, Ovi Maps provides the ability to check weather conditions
near and far, find locations and determine routes. Switch between views effortlessly
with the pen stylus and zoom in and out with a flick of your finger. See the world in
night mode in low-light situations, or view your maps with 3D landmarks.
Find your position quickly and accurately with the built-in Assisted-GPS receiver. The
Nokia N900 works seamlessly with Ovi Maps to help you plan the perfect route as you
make your way from point A to point B. Discover things you’ve never seen before with
the application’s pre-loaded points of interest in over 200 countries.
Access Ovi Maps
To access Ovi Maps:
1. From the desktop, tap the
Applications menu icon (

2. Select Maps.
3. Tap Find Places, Routing or Weather.
Change your time format and units of measure
by tapping the Maps toolbar.
Find a destination
To search for a destination:
1. From the desktop, tap the
Applications menu icon (
2. Select Maps.
).
3. Tap Routing.
4. Tap Add destination.
5. Tap Set from search.
6. Type the destination address.
7. Tap the Route calculation icon ( ).
8. View the route.
Change your waypoints, directions and route
settings by tapping on the Routing toolbar.
The availability and accuracy of GPS location services are dependent on wireless networks, satellite
systems. It may not function in all areas or at all times. You should never rely solely on GPS products
for essential communications like emergencies. A-GPS is a network dependant feature that requires
a data plan. Additional charges may apply.
Use Ovi Files to remotely access and send photos, music files or documents stored
on your computer—straight from your Nokia N900. Browse, search and view Adobe
PDF, Microsoft Word and many other types of documents through the full browser.
To use Ovi Files, you’ll need a computer and mobile device, both with Internet access.
Ovi Files offers Anytime Files for those times when your computer is turned off and you
need to access your files. Simply choose which ‘anytime’ folders and files you might
need and Ovi Files automatically keeps an up-to-date copy stored in a secure ‘Anytime
Files’ online storage locker that you can access anytime.
Get started with Ovi Files
account. Download Ovi Files to your computer.
To upload files using your computer:

Use Ovi Files on your device

games, graphics, shorts videos and other cool content directly on your Nokia N900.

Access from your device
To launch Ovi Store:
1. From the desktop, tap Ovi Store.
2. Choose an Internet connection.
3. Tap I agree.
4. Tap Options.
5. Tap Account.
6. Tap Sign in/register.
7. Type your user name and password. If this is
your first time to sign in, create an account.
To download free and paid content, you must sign in
with an Ovi account.
Download an application
Once you launch Ovi Store, follow these steps to download an application:
1. Tap the arrow icons to scroll through the categories on the top bar.
2. Tap any category, such as Recommended.
3. Tap Search Recommended.
4. Enter your search criteria, such as “Applications,”
then tap Search.
5. Choose an application.
6. Tap Download.
Your downloaded applications are
located in My Stuff.
7. Tap Yes to install the application
The application downloads.
8. Tap Launch to open the application.

Recommend content to a friend
Easily recommend global and local content to your friends:
1. Once you select a category, tap the content you want to recommend
to a friend, such as applications, wallpaper or ringtones.
2. Tap Send to Friend.
3. Type your friend’s mobile number.
4. Tap Send to share your recommendation.
Nokia provides a free email account with up to 1 GB of storage to all of their users. This
email account can be used directly from your Nokia N900. Access your Ovi email address
from your mobile phone, or access the free webmail on any PC.

To register from you phone:

2. Tap Register.
3. Tap the Ovi Mail icon ( ).

5. Type your user name and password.
6. Select your country.
7. Type an alternate email address for

Add an Ovi Mail account to your phone
After you create an account, add your Ovi Mail
address to your phone:
