Getting Started  
If you are using this product for the first time,  
follow these steps.  
1. Press ON/OFF.  
A brief demonstration appears.  
2. Press CLEAR to stop the demo.  
Ready appears.  
3. Press  
or  
repeatedly to adjust  
the screen contrast.  
You can adjust the contrast only at Ready.  
Disabling the Demonstration  
You probably do not want to view the  
demonstration every time you turn this  
product on. To disable the demonstration,  
type --D and then press ENTER. To re-  
enable it, do the same.  
About Automatic Shutoff  
Don’t worry if you forget to turn Cross-  
words off. If no key is touched within two  
minutes, Crosswords will shut itself off.

Finding Words  
Crosswords helps you find answers to crossword  
puzzles by filling in missing letters. Just type a  
question mark for each unknown letter. To type a  
LETTER?  
question mark, press  
or  
.
1. Type a word with ?’s.  
To erase a letter, press  
.
2. Press ENTER.  
The arrow at the right of the screen  
indicates there are more matches.  
3. Press  
to view more matches.  
4. Press CLEAR when done.  
Follow the Arrows  
The flashing arrows at the right of the  
screen show which arrow keys you can  
press to view more words.

Finding Words  
To find a series of missing letters in a word, type  
MATCH  
an asterisk. To type an asterisk, press  
or  
. There are more matches here because an  
asterisk can be one or several letters.  
1. Type a word with s.  
2. Press ENTER.  
3. Press  
to view more matches.  
4. Press CLEAR when done.  
Tips for Finding Words  
• Use ?’s to find lists of words. For ex-  
ample, to view four-letter words beginning  
with a z, enter Z???.  
• Use both ?’s and ’s in a word (e.g.,  
ZK?). There is no need to type a ? next  
to an .

Finding Phrases  
Crosswords can also search for phrases. You  
need to know only a few of the letters in the  
phrase. NOTE: Phrases take longer to find be-  
cause Crosswords must search its entire list of  
phrases from A to Z.  
1. Type a word in a phrase (e.g., CAT).  
2. Press PHRS.  
3. Press  
to continue searching.  
4. Press CLEAR to stop.  
Typing Punctuation  
At Ready, you can type an apostrophe by  
pressing  
or a period by pressing  
.
NOTE: These punctuation marks cannot  
begin a word.

Finding More Words  
If you haven’t found the answer you were look-  
ing for by using the ? or keys, try pressing  
MORE. Each time you press MORE, Crosswords  
substitutes letters for one that you’ve typed.  
1. Enter a word with ?s or s  
(e.g., SH?P?).  
2. Press  
to view the matches.  
3. Press MORE.  
The lowercase letter is the new letter.  
4. Press  
to view the new matches.  
5. Press MORE again to find more  
possibilities.  
6. Press CLEAR when done.

Jumbling Letters  
Jumble scrambles the letters you type to form  
words. It can help you with Scrabble®, anagrams,  
and other word games.  
1. Type letters or a word.  
2. Press JUMBLE.  
3. Press  
or  
to choose the minimum  
word size (e.g., 4).  
4. Press ENTER.  
5. Press  
to view the words.  
6. Press CLEAR when done.

Product Care  
Replacing the Battery  
This product uses one CR2032, 3-volt lithium bat-  
tery. Should you need to replace the battery, un-  
screw the screws on the back with a very fine  
screwdriver and carefully remove the back cover.  
Then install a new battery, plus sign facing you, and  
replace the cover.  
Cleaning, Storage, Problems  
To clean, spray a mild glass cleaner onto a cloth  
and wipe the surface. Do not spray liquids directly  
on this product. Do not use or store this product in  
extreme or prolonged heat, cold, humidity, or other  
adverse conditions. It could damage its circuitry.
