Removing packaging materials

Remove tape and glue residue from surfaces before turning
on the refrigerator. Rub a small amount of liquid dish soap
over the adhesive with your fingers. Wipe with warm water
and dry.
To ensure proper ventilation for your refrigerator, allow for ¹⁄₂ in.
(1.25 cm) space on each side and at the top. When installing your
refrigerator next to a fixed wall, leave 2 in. (5.08 cm) minimum on
each side (depending on your model) to allow for the door to
swing open. If your refrigerator has an ice maker, allow extra
space at the back for the water line connections.
I
Do not use sharp instruments, rubbing alcohol, flammable
fluids, or abrasive cleaners to remove tape or glue. These
products can damage the surface of your refrigerator. For
more information, see the “Refrigerator Safety” section.
NOTE: Do not install the refrigerator near an oven, radiator, or
other heat source, nor in a location where the temperature will fall
below 55°F (13°C).
When MovingYour Refrigerator:
Your refrigerator is heavy. When moving the refrigerator
for cleaning or service, be sure to protect the floor.
Always pull the refrigerator straight out when moving it.
Do not wiggle or “walk” the refrigerator when trying to move
it, as floor damage could occur.

Cleaning before use
After you remove all of the packaging materials, clean the inside
of your refrigerator before using it. See the cleaning instructions
in the “Refrigerator Care” section.
Important information to know about glass shelves
and covers:

Do not clean glass shelves or covers with warm water when
they are cold. Shelves and covers may break if exposed to
sudden temperature changes or impact, such as bumping.
For your protection, tempered glass is designed to shatter
into many small, pebble-size pieces. This is normal. Glass
shelves and covers are heavy. Use special care when re-
moving them to avoid impact from dropping.

Electrical Requirements
Base Grille
WARNING
To remove the base grille:
1. Open both refrigerator doors.

2. Place hands along the ends of the grille, with your thumbs
along the top. Push in with your thumbs and pull up on the
bottom.
NOTE: Be sure to refasten the Tech Sheet behind the base grille
after cleaning.
Do not use an extension cord.
To replace the base grille:
1. Open the doors.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in
death, fire, or electrical shock.
2. Line up the grille support tabs with the metal clips.
3. Push the grille firmly to snap it into place.
Before you move your refrigerator into its final location, it is
important to make sure you have the proper electrical
connection:

A 115 Volt, 60 Hz. (Plug 1), 220/240 Volt/50 Hz (Plugs 2 or 3), or
220 Volt/60Hz (Plug 3) AC only 10 ampere fused and grounded
(earthed) electrical supply is required.

It is recommended that a separate circuit serving only your
refrigerator be provided. Use an outlet that cannot be turned off
by a switch or pull chain. Do not use an extension cord.
NOTE: Before performing any type of installation, cleaning, or
removing a light bulb, turn the control, (Thermostat, Refrigerator
or Freezer Control depending on the model) to OFF and then
disconnect the refrigerator from the electrical source. When you
are finished, reconnect the refrigerator to the electrical source
and reset the control (Thermostat, Refrigerator or Freezer Control
depending on the model) to the desired setting.
For Australia and New Zealand:
Your new appliance has been especially manufactured to meet all
Australian Standards and Conditions.
Some notations in the installation instructions may refer to
electrical requirements in other countries, so we draw your
particular attention to these specific notes.
Your appliance needs to be plugged into a 230/240 Volt 50 Hz 10
amp (Plug 4) AC only earthed outlet.

Door Removal
TOOLS NEEDED: ¹⁄₄ in. hex-head socket wrench, ⁵⁄₁₆ in. hex-head socket wrench and a flat-head screwdriver.
IMPORTANT: Before you begin, turn the refrigerator control OFF, unplug refrigerator or disconnect power. Remove food and any
adjustable door or utility bins from doors.
NOTE: It may only be necessary to remove either the door handle or the doors to get your product through the doorway of your home.
Measure the door opening to see if you need to remove the refrigerator handles or the doors.

Handle Removal (optional)
Door and Hinge Replacement
1. Apply firm pressure with your hand on the face of trim. Slide
top trim up and bottom trim down away from handle. Lift trim
pieces off shoulder screws (see Graphic 1).
1. Replace both bottom hinges, if removed. Tighten screws.
2. Assistance may be needed to feed the water dispenser
tubing through the bottom hinge while reinstalling the freezer
door. Carefully feed the dispenser tubing through the bottom
left hinge before replacing the door on the hinge.
NOTE: Some models include accent pieces between the handle
and the handle trim. If your model includes the accents, you will
need to carefully remove them with a flat-head screwdriver before
removing the handle screws. The accent pieces are optional and
can be reinstalled or left off of the handle assembly.
NOTE: Provide additional support for the doors while the top
hinges are being replaced. Do not depend on the door magnets
to hold the doors in place while you are working.
2. Remove handle screws and handles. (See Graphic 1)
3. Reconnect water dispenser tubing by pushing tubing into
fitting until it stops and black mark touches face of fitting (see
Graphic 3). On some models, replace tubing in hose clip.
3. Move refrigerator into place. Replace handles as shown (see
Graphic 1).
4. Align and replace the top left hinge as shown (see Graphic 4).

the refrigerator through a doorway. Both bottom hinges have

NOTE: Having someone push against the top of the
refrigerator takes some weight off the leveling screws and
rollers. This makes it easier to adjust the screws.

4. Open both doors again and check to make sure that they
close as easily as you like. If not, tilt the refrigerator slightly
more to the rear by turning both leveling screws to the right. It
may take several more turns, and you should turn both
leveling screws the same amount.
2. Use a sturdy container to depress the water dispenser bar
until the water begins to flow. Flush the water system by
dispensing and discarding 2 to 3 gal. (8 to 12 L) of water.
Cleaning the system will take approximately 6 to 7 minutes
and will help clear air from the line. Additional flushing may be
required in some households.
5. Replace the base grille.
NOTE: Be sure to refasten the Tech Sheet behind the base grille.
NOTE: As air is cleared from the system, water may spurt out
of the dispenser.
3. Open the freezer door and turn on the ice maker by moving
the switch to the ON (left) setting. Please refer to the “Ice
Maker and Storage Bin/Bucket” section for further
instructions on the operation of your ice maker.

Normal Sounds
Contact your dealer or Whirlpool designated service
company for proper installation and parts.
Your new refrigerator may make sounds that your old one didn’t
make. Because the sounds are new to you, you might be
concerned about them. Most of the new sounds are normal. Hard
surfaces, such as the floor, walls, and cabinets, can make the
sounds seem louder. The following describes the kinds of sounds
and what may be making them.

Connect to potable water only.
Water pressure: 30 to 150 psi (207 KPa - max. 1030 KPa).
Install ice maker tubing in areas where temperatures are
above freezing.
I
If your product is equipped with an ice maker, you will hear a
buzzing sound when the water valve opens to fill the ice
maker for each cycle.
I
I
If operating the refrigerator before installing the water
connection, turn ice maker to the OFF position to prevent
operation without water (see “Water System Preparation”).
I
Your refrigerator is designed to run more efficiently to keep
your food items at the desired temperatures and to minimize
energy usage. The high efficiency compressor and fans may
cause your refrigerator to run longer than your old one. You
may also hear a pulsating or high-pitched sound from the
compressor or fans adjusting to optimize performance.
It may take up to 24 hours for your ice maker to begin
producing ice.
Water System Preparation
(on some models)

You may hear the evaporator fan motor circulating air through
the refrigerator and freezer compartments. The fan speed
may increase as you open the doors or add warm food.
Please read before using the water system.
Immediately after installation, follow the steps below to make
sure that the water system is properly cleaned.

Rattling noises may come from the flow of refrigerant, the
water line, or items stored on top of the refrigerator.
1. Open the freezer door and turn off the ice maker. Move the
switch to the OFF (right) setting as shown. The ON/OFF
switch is located on the top right side of the freezer
compartment.
Water dripping on the defrost heater during a defrost cycle
may cause a sizzling sound.
As each cycle ends, you may hear a gurgling sound due to
the refrigerant flowing in your refrigerator.
Contraction and expansion of the inside walls may cause a
popping noise.
You may hear air being forced over the condenser by the
condenser fan.
You may hear water running into the drain pan during the
defrost cycle.
NOTES:

If your model has a base grille filter system, make sure the
base grille filter is properly installed and the cap is in the
horizontal position.
I
Do not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or
of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before
or after the system.

Setting the dial controls (on some models):
REFRIGERATOR USE
The Refrigerator Control adjusts the refrigerator compartment
temperature, and the Freezer Control adjusts the freezer
compartment temperature. Settings to the left of the mid-setting
make the temperature less cold. Settings to the right of the mid-
setting make the temperature colder.
Ensuring Proper Air Circulation
In order to ensure proper temperatures, you need to permit air to
flow between the two sections. Cold air enters the bottom of the
freezer section and moves up. It then enters the refrigerator
section through the top vent. Air then returns to the freezer as
shown.

Do not block any of these vents with food such as soda, cereal,
bread, etc. If the vents are blocked, airflow will be prevented and
the temperature controls will not function properly.
Setting the slide controls (on some models):
IMPORTANT: Because air circulates between both sections, any
odors formed in one section will transfer to the other. You must
thoroughly clean both sections to eliminate odors. To prevent
odor transfer from food, wrap or cover foods tightly.
The Refrigerator Control adjusts the refrigerator compartment
temperature, and the Freezer Control adjusts the freezer
compartment temperature. Settings to the left of the mid-setting
make the temperature less cold. Settings to the right of the mid-
setting make the temperature colder.
Using the Controls
Style 1
For your convenience, your refrigerator controls are preset at the
factory. When you first install your refrigerator, make sure that the
controls are still preset. The Refrigerator Control and the Freezer
Control should both be at the “mid-settings” as shown in the
illustrations below.

IMPORTANT: If you add food before the refrigerator has cooled
completely, your food may spoil. Turning the Refrigerator and
Freezer Controls to a higher (colder) than recommended setting
will not cool the compartments any faster.

The ice dispenser
Ice dispenses from the ice maker storage bin in the freezer. When
the dispenser lever is pressed:
Adjusting Control Settings
Give the refrigerator time to cool down completely before adding
food. It is best to wait 24 hours before you put food into the
refrigerator. The settings indicated in the previous section should
be correct for normal household refrigerator usage. The controls
are set correctly when milk or juice is as cold as you like and
when ice cream is firm.

A trap door opens in a chute between the dispenser and the
ice bin.

Ice moves from the bin and falls through the chute.
When you release the dispenser lever, the trap door closes
and the ice dispensing stops. The dispensing system will not
operate when the freezer door is open.
If you need to adjust temperatures in the refrigerator or freezer,
use the settings listed in the chart below as a guide. Wait at least
24 hours between adjustments.

For crushed ice, cubes are crushed before being dispensed.
This may cause a slight delay when dispensing crushed ice.
Noise from the ice crusher is normal, and pieces of ice may
vary in size. When changing from CRUSH to CUBE, a few
ounces of crushed ice will be dispensed along with the first
cubes.

Water and Ice Dispensers
To dispense ice:
1. Press button for the desired type of ice.
(on some models)
2. Press a sturdy glass against the ice dispenser lever. Hold the
glass close to the dispenser opening so ice does not fall
outside of the glass.
WARNING
IMPORTANT: You do not need to apply a lot of pressure to
the lever in order to activate the ice dispenser. Pressing hard
will not make the ice dispense faster or in greater quantities.
Cut Hazard
Use a sturdy glass when dispensing ice or water.
Failure to do so can result in cuts.
3. Remove the glass to stop dispensing.
NOTE: The first few batches of ice may have an off-flavor from
new plumbing and parts. Throw the ice away. Also, take large
amounts of ice from the ice bin, not through the dispenser.
Depending on your model, you may have one or more of the
following options: the ability to select either crushed or cubed
ice, a special light that turns on when you use the dispenser, or a
lock option to avoid accidental dispensing.

The water dispenser
If you did not flush the water system when the refrigerator was
first installed, please do so before using the water dispenser. To
flush the water system, please see the section “Water System
Preparation.”
Interior Water Filtration System
(on some models)
The interior water filter cartridge is located in the upper corner of
the fresh food compartment of the refrigerator. The interior water
filter cartridge should be replaced every six months or earlier if
the flow of water to your water dispenser or ice maker decreases
noticeably.
IMPORTANT: Depending on your model, the small removable
tray at the bottom of the dispenser is designed to catch small
spills and allow for easy cleaning. There is no drain in the tray.
The tray can be removed from the dispenser and carried to the
sink to be emptied or cleaned.
Replacing the interior water filter cartridge
1. Twist the interior water filter cartridge ¹⁄₄ turn to the left. The
INSTALL mark will be lined up with the indicator line located
on the filter mounting bracket cover.
2. Gently pull down on the cartridge to remove it from the filter
mounting bracket assembly. To prevent water from spilling
inside the refrigerator, DO NOT TIP the cartridge. Dispose of
the cartridge.
To dispense water:
3. Install the new interior water filter cartridge. You can run the
dispenser without a water filter cartridge, but your water will
not be filtered.
1. Press a glass against the water dispenser lever.
2. Remove the glass to stop dispensing.
NOTE: Dispense enough water every week to maintain a fresh
supply.
NOTE: Do not use with water that is microbiologically
unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate
disinfection before or after the system.

Carefully remove the interior water filter cartridge from its
packaging. Remove the red cap from the cartridge.
I
Apply the appropriate month sticker to the cartridge as a
reminder to replace the cartridge within six months. Then
apply the “Water Filter Replacement Reminder” sticker to
your calendar as a reminder to replace the cartridge in six
months.
The dispenser light (on some models)
The dispenser area has a light. It can be turned on manually by
pressing the ON button at the right hand side of the control panel.
The red indicator above the ON button will appear.
On some models: Whenever you use the dispenser the lever will
automatically turn the light on.
On models without crushed ice, the light switch is a rocker-style
type. Push the switch to turn the light on, and push again to turn
the light off.
4. Line up the INSTALL mark on the water filter label with the
indicator line that is molded into the filter mounting bracket
cover. Push the cartridge into the filter mounting bracket.
Twist the cartridge ¹⁄₄ turn to the right to lock it into place. The
REMOVE mark should be lined up with the indicator line
located on the front cover.
NOTE: See the “Changing the Light Bulbs” section for

The dispenser lock (on some models)
Your dispenser can be turned off for easy cleaning or to prevent
accidental dispensing by small children and pets. To turn off the
dispenser, press the LOCK button. The indicator will appear
above the LOCK button and the ice and water dispensers will not
work. To unlock the dispenser, press the UNLOCK button until
the indicator appears. Then continue to dispense ice or water as
usual.
NOTE: As air is cleared from the system, water may spurt out
of the dispenser.
6. Inspect the filter system for water leaks. If you see water
leaks, see the “Troubleshooting” section.
NOTE: The lock feature does not shut off power to the product,
to the ice maker, or to the dispenser light. It simply deactivates
the dispenser levers.

3. Push the new filter cartridge into the base until it stops.
Rotate the cartridge clockwise to a horizontal position. Flush
the water system (see “Flushing the Water System After
Replacing Filter” later in this section).
Water Filtration System
(on some models)
Style 2: Through the base grille filter
The base grille water filter status light (on some models)
1. Locate the water filter cartridge cap in the front base grille.
Rotate the cap counterclockwise to a vertical position and
pull the cap and filter cartridge out through the base grille.
The water filter status light will help you know when to change
your water filter cartridge. The light is located at the top of the
refrigerator compartment. The light will change from green to
yellow. This tells you that it is almost time to change the water
filter cartridge (90% of the filter life has been used). It is
recommended that you replace the base grille water filter
cartridge when the water filter indicator light changes to red OR
water flow to your water dispenser or ice maker decreases
noticeably. (See “Changing a base grille water filter cartridge”
later in this section.)
NOTE: There will be water in the cartridge. Some spilling may
occur.
2. Remove the cartridge cap by sliding it off the end of the old
cartridge. The cap will slide to the left or right. DO NOT
DISCARD THE CAP.
NOTE: Do not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe

should change the water filter cartridge every 6 to 9 months
depending upon your usage. If the water flow to the water
dispenser or ice maker decreases noticeably before 6 months
have passed, replace the water filter cartridge more often.
Changing a base grille water filter cartridge
The base grille water filter is located below the freezer
compartment door. Depending on your model, you may have a
filter that is installed behind the base grille (Style 1) or a filter that
is installed through the base grille (Style 2).
Flushing the water system after replacing filter
Use a sturdy container to depress the water dispenser bar until
the water begins to flow. Flush the water system by dispensing
and discarding 2 to 3 gal. (8 to 12 L) of water. Cleaning the
system will take approximately 6 to 7 minutes and will help clear
air from the line. Additional flushing may be required in some
households.
Style 1: Behind the base grille filter
1. Remove the base grille (see “Removing the base grille”
section). Rotate the cartridge counterclockwise to a vertical
position and pull the filter cartridge out.
NOTE: There will be water in the cartridge. Some spilling may
occur.
NOTE: As air is cleared from the system, water may spurt out of
the dispenser.
Using the dispenser without the water filter
You can run the dispenser without a water filter cartridge. Your
water will not be filtered.
1. Remove the base grille water filter cartridge. For Style 1,
replace the base grille after removing the filter.
2. Take the new cartridge out of its packaging and remove
protective cover from o-rings.

2. For Style 2, slide the cartridge cap off the end of the filter
cartridge. DO NOT DISCARD THE CAP. With the cartridge
cap in the vertical position, insert the cap into the base grille
until it stops.
4. Replace the bin by pushing it in all the way or the dispenser
will not work. Push the wire shutoff arm down to the ON
position to restart ice production. Make sure the door is
closed tightly.
To turn the ice maker on/off (Style 2):
The ON/OFF switch is located on the top right side of the freezer
compartment.
1. To turn the ice maker on, slide the control to the ON (left)
position.
NOTE: Your ice maker has an automatic shutoff. The ice
maker sensors will automatically stop ice production, but the
control will remain in the ON (left) position.
3. Rotate the cartridge cap to a horizontal position. The
cartridge cap might not be even with the base grille.

Ice Maker and Storage Bin/Bucket

To turn the ice maker on/off (Style 1):
The on/off switch for the ice maker is a wire shutoff arm located
on the side of the ice maker.

NOTE: Your ice maker has an automatic shutoff. As ice is
made, the ice cubes will fill the ice storage bin and the ice
cubes will raise the wire shutoff arm to the OFF (arm up)

To care for ice storage bin or bucket:
1. Empty the ice container. Use warm water to melt the ice if
necessary.
NOTE: Never use anything sharp to break up the ice in the
bin or bucket. This can cause damage to the ice container
and the dispenser mechanism.

Maximum Ice Production (on some models): In maximum ice
production, the ice maker should produce approximately 10
to 14 batches of ice in a 24-hour period. If your refrigerator
has the maximum ice production feature, push the switch to
MAX.

Adjustable Flip-up Shelf
Important information to know about glass shelves
and covers:

Do not clean glass shelves or covers with warm water when
they are cold. Shelves and covers may break if exposed to
sudden temperature changes or impact, such as bumping.
For your protection, tempered glass is designed to shatter
into many small, pebble-size pieces. This is normal. Glass
shelves and covers are heavy. Use special care when re-
moving them to avoid impact from dropping.
To raise or lower the shelf:
1. Raise the shelf by first sliding it back and down to make it
half-width. (You can use the shelf in this position to allow
taller items to be stored on the shelf below.)
2. Lift the front of the shelf until it fits securely in place against
the back wall. Lower the shelf securely back into position.
3. Pull the front of the shelf forward until it fits into place.
Refrigerator Shelves
Your model may have glass or wire shelves. Store similar foods
together and adjust the shelves to fit different heights. This
reduces the time the refrigerator door is open and saves energy.
Slide-out Shelves (on some models)
To remove and replace a shelf in a metal frame:
1. Pull the shelf forward to the stop. Tilt the front of the shelf up
and lift it slightly as you pull the shelf from the frame.
Deli Drawer
2. Replace the shelf by guiding it back into the slots on the

The deli drawer stores raisins, nuts, spreads, and other small

2. Replace the shelf/frame by guiding the rear shelf hooks into
the shelf supports. Tilt the front of the shelf up until rear shelf
hooks drop into the shelf supports. Check to make sure that
the shelf is securely in position.

IMPORTANT: If food starts to freeze, move the control to the left
(less cold). Remember to wait 24 hours between adjustments.

Store most meat in original wrapping as long as it is airtight and
moisture-proof. Rewrap if necessary. See the following chart for

IMPORTANT: To extend freshness, wrap meats in airtight,
moisture-proof materials before storing. Always store meat as

Frozen food storage guide
Storage times will vary according to the quality and type of food,
the type of packaging or wrap used (should be airtight and
moisture-proof), and the storage temperature. Ice crystals inside
a sealed package are normal. This simply means that moisture in
the food and air inside the package have condensed, creating ice
crystals.
Drop-in Door Rails
Put no more unfrozen food into the freezer than will freeze within
24 hours (no more than 2 to 3 lbs. of food per cubic foot
[907-1,350 g per L] of freezer space). Leave enough space in the
freezer for air to circulate around packages. Be careful to leave
enough room for the door to close tightly.
To remove and replace the rails:
1. Remove the rails by pulling straight up on each end of the rail.
2. Replace the rails by sliding the shelf rail into the slots on the
door and pushing the rail straight down until it stops.

and pulling forward while turning it slightly to one side. If
necessary, remove top crisper drawer to access crisper light

NOTE: To keep your Stainless Steel refrigerator looking like
new and to remove minor scuffs or marks, it is suggested that
you use the manufacturer’s approved Stainless Steel Cleaner
& Polish.

Replace the light shield by inserting the tabs on one end into
the slotted holes in the refrigerator or freezer liner. Then,
carefully bend the shield at the center to insert the tabs on the
other end.
IMPORTANT: This cleaner is for Stainless Steel parts only!
Do not allow the Stainless Steel Cleaner & Polish to come into
contact with any plastic parts such as the trim pieces,
dispenser covers or door gaskets. If accidental contact does
occur, clean plastic part with a sponge and mild detergent in
warm water. Dry thoroughly with a soft cloth. To order the
cleaner, see the “Accessories” section.
5. There is no need for routine condenser cleaning in normal
home operating environments. If the environment is
particularly greasy or dusty, or there is significant pet traffic in
the home, the condenser should be cleaned every two to
three months to ensure maximum efficiency.

top freezer basket shelf. Remove light shield by removing the
Phillips screw on the top of the shield. Carefully, rotate the
shield until the left tab can be gently pulled from the freezer
wall.
Moving
When you are moving your refrigerator to a new home, follow
these steps to prepare it for the move.
1. If your refrigerator has an automatic ice maker:

Replace the light shield by inserting the left tab into the
freezer wall. Align top tab with screw hole and replace screw.

Turn off the water supply to the ice maker at least one day
ahead of time.
Disconnect the water line from the back of the

REMEMBER: A full freezer stays cold longer than a partially filled
one. A freezer full of meat stays cold longer than a freezer full of
baked goods. If you see that food contains ice crystals, it may be
refrozen, although the quality and flavor may be affected. If the
condition of the food is poor, dispose of it.

refrigerator? Adding a large amount of food warms the

refrigerator back down.
Is there a water filter installed on the refrigerator? The
filter may be clogged or installed incorrectly. Check the filter
installation instructions to ensure that the filter was installed
correctly and is not clogged. If installation or clogging is not a
problem, call a technician or other qualified person.
Are the doors opened often? The motor will run longer
when this occurs. Conserve energy by getting all items out at
one time, keeping food organized, and closing the door as
soon as possible.
NOTE: If not due to any of the above, there may be a problem
with the water line. Call for service.

Are the plumbing connections new, causing discolored or
off-flavored ice? Discard the first few batches of ice.
Have the ice cubes been stored too long? Throw old ice
away and make a new supply.
Are the condenser coils dirty? This prevents air transfer and
makes the motor work harder. Clean the condenser coils.

Does the freezer and ice bin or bucket need to be
cleaned? See the “Cleaning” or “Ice Maker and Storage Bin/
Bucket” section.

Has food in the freezer or refrigerator been wrapped
properly? Use airtight, moisture-proof packaging to help
prevent odor transfer to stored food.
The water dispenser will not operate properly

Has the water system not filled? The water system needs
to be filled the first time it is used. Use a sturdy container to
depress the water dispenser bar until the water begins to
flow. Flush the water system by dispensing and discarding
2 to 3 gal. (8 to 12 L) of water. Cleaning the system will take
approximately 6 to 7 minutes and will help clear air from the
line. Additional flushing may be required in some households.
See the “Water and Ice Dispensers” section.

Does the water contain minerals (such as sulfur)? A filter
may need to be installed to remove the minerals.
Is there a water filter installed on the refrigerator? Gray or
dark discoloration in ice indicates that the water filtration
system needs additional flushing. Run additional water
through the water dispenser to flush the water filtration
system more thoroughly (at least 2 to 3 gal. [8 to 12 L] or 6 to
7 minutes initially). Discard discolored ice.

Is the water shutoff valve not turned on or the water line
connected at the source? Make sure the water shutoff valve
is turned on and the water source is connected to the
refrigerator. See the “Water Supply Connection” section.
The ice dispenser will not operate properly

Is the freezer door closed completely? Push the door firmly
shut. If it will not shut all the way, see “The doors will not
close completely” later in this section.
Is the water shutoff valve clogged or incorrectly installed?
See the “Water Supply Connection” section. If clogging or
installation is not a problem, call for service or contact a
plumber.
Is the ice bin or bucket installed correctly? For models
with an interior ice bin, push the ice bin in all the way. If the
ice bin does not go in all the way, it may not be put in straight.
Pull it out and try again. For models with an ice bucket
located on the freezer door, the bucket should sit level. To
remove the bucket, press the release button on the right side
of the bucket and lift straight up. Replace the bucket in the
door making sure it is properly aligned and snapped securely
into place. Refer to the “Ice Maker and Storage Bin/Bucket”
section.

Is there a kink in the home water source line? If you find or
suspect a kink in the water line, call for service.
Is there a water filter installed on the refrigerator? The
filter may be clogged or incorrectly installed. First, check the
filter installation instructions to ensure that the filter was
installed correctly and is not clogged. If installation or
clogging is not a problem, call for service.
Water or ice is leaking from the dispenser

Has the wrong ice been added to the bin or bucket? Use
only cubes produced by the current ice maker. If other cubes
have been added, remove all cubes and check to see that
none have become stuck in the delivery chute.
I
Is the glass not being held under the ice dispenser long
enough, causing the ice to spill? Hold the container under
the ice chute for two to three seconds after releasing the
dispenser lever. Water or ice may continue to dispense during
this time.
I
I
Has the ice frozen in the ice bin or bucket? Shake the ice
bin or bucket to separate cubes. If cubes do not separate,
empty bin or bucket and wait 24 hours for ice to restock.
I
I
Is an ice cube stuck in the chute and holding the trap
door open? Remove the cube.
Has the ice melted around the auger (metal spiral) in the
ice bucket? Dump the ice cubes and clean the ice bucket
completely. Allow 24 hours for the ice maker to restock. Do
not try to remove the melted ice with a sharp object. You
could damage the ice bucket.
Is there a water filter installed on the refrigerator? The
water filtration system may have air in the lines, causing water
to drip. Additional flushing may help clear air from the lines.
Normal dispenser use should flush air from the lines within 24
to 72 hours.

Is ice stuck in the delivery chute? Clear the ice from the
delivery chute with a plastic utensil. Do not use anything
sharp to remove the ice. You could cause damage.
Water flow from the dispenser decreases noticeably
Is the ice dispenser stalling while dispensing “crushed”
ice? Stop dispensing ice. Change the ice button from
“crushed” to “cubed.” Depress the ice dispenser arm using a
sturdy glass. If cubed ice dispenses correctly, depress the
button for “crushed” ice and begin dispensing again. Refer to
the “Water and Ice Dispensers” section.

Is there a water filter installed on the refrigerator?
The filter may be full or incorrectly installed. Remove the
water filter cartridge (see the “Water Filtration System”
section). Operate the dispenser. If the water flow increases
noticeably, replace the filter.

Is there ice in the bucket? See “The ice maker is not
producing ice” earlier in this section.
The dispenser water is not cool enough
Has the dispenser arm been held in too long? Release
dispenser arm. Ice will stop dispensing when the arm is held
in too long. Wait three minutes for dispenser motor to reset
before using again. It is best to take large amounts of ice
directly from the ice bin or bucket, not through the dispenser.

Has the refrigerator been newly installed? Allow 24 hours
for the refrigerator to cool completely.
Has a large amount of water been recently dispensed?
Allow 24 hours for the water to cool completely.
Has water not been recently dispensed? The first glass of
water may not be cool. Discard the first glass of water.
Ice bucket difficult to remove

Is the ice bucket difficult to remove (on some models)?
For models with an ice bucket located on the freezer door,
select “cubed” ice. Using a sturdy glass, quickly depress and
release the ice dispenser arm. Open the freezer door, depress
the release button on the ice bucket and lift upward. Refer to
the “Ice Maker and Storage Bin/Bucket” section.
The divider between the two compartments is warm
The warmth is probably due to normal operation of the
automatic exterior moisture control. If still concerned, call for
service.

refrigerator. See the “Door Closing” or “Leveling Refrigerator”
section, depending on your model.
Temperature is too warm

Are the air vents blocked in either compartment? This

refrigerator. Remove any objects from in front of the air vents.

Were the doors removed during product installation and
not properly replaced? Remove and replace the doors
according to the “Door Removal” section on some models, or
call a qualified service technician.

when this occurs. Keep the refrigerator cool by getting all
items out at one time, keeping food organized, and closing
the door as soon as possible.
The doors are difficult to open

Are the gaskets dirty or sticky? Clean gaskets according to
the directions in the “Cleaning” section.
Has a large amount of food just been added to the
refrigerator or freezer? Adding a large amount of food
warms the refrigerator. It can take several hours for the
refrigerator to return to the normal temperature.

Cómo quitar los materiales de embalado
Quite las cintas adhesivas y goma de su frigorífico antes de
usarlo. Frote una pequeña cantidad de jabón líquido para
vajilla sobre el adhesivo con los dedos. Enjuague con agua
tibia y seque.
Para asegurar que el frigorífico disponga de una buena
ventilación, deje un espacio de ¹⁄₂ pulg. (1,25 cm) a cada lado del
electrodoméstico y en la parte superior. Cuando instale su

10. Quizás no sea necesario quitar la bisagra inferior para pasar
el frigorífico por una puerta. Ambas bisagras inferiores tienen
la misma construcción.
Desmontaje de los tiradores de la puerta (opcional)
1. Presione firmemente con la mano la parte frontal del borde.

de que la tapa esté en posición horizontal.
No debe utilizarse con agua que no sea
microbiológicamente segura o de calidad desconocida y
sin la debida desinfección antes o después del sistema.
NOTA: Es aconsejable disponer de otra persona para
empujar la parte superior del frigorífico, lo cual quita cierto
peso de los tornillos niveladores y rodillos, facilitando así el
ajuste de los tornillos.
2. Use un contenedor resistente para oprimir la barra del
distribuidor de agua hasta que el agua comience a salir.
Enjuague el sistema de agua distribuyendo y descargando de
2 a 3 galones (de 8 a 12 L) de agua. Esto le llevará unos 6 a 7
minutos aproximadamente y ayudará a despejar el aire de las
tuberías. En algunas casas quizás sea necesario una
descarga adicional.
4. Abra ambas puertas de nuevo y compruebe que cierren con
facilidad. En caso contrario, incline el frigorífico ligeramente
hacia atrás girando ambos tornillos niveladores hacia la derecha.
Es posible que deba girar varias veces más, y deberá
cerciorarse de girar ambos tornillos el mismo número de veces.
NOTA: Conforme se vaya despejando el aire del sistema, es
posible que chorree agua del distribuidor.

son en realidad. A continuación se describen los tipos de ruidos y
qué puede causarlos.
Conecte solamente a agua potable.

Si su producto dispone de máquina de hacer hielo,

agua, ponga la máquina de hacer hielo en la posición OFF
(apagado) para evitar que empiece a funcionar sin agua

Su frigorífico está diseñado a fin de que sea lo más eficiente
posible a la hora de mantener los alimentos a la temperatura
deseada y para reducir el uso de energía. El alto rendimiento
del compresor y de los ventiladores puede ser causa de que
su nuevo frigorífico funcione por períodos más largos que su
viejo frigorífico, y también puede producir sonidos pulsantes

Si cuando instaló el frigorífico por primera vez no efectuó la
descarga de agua del sistema, hágalo antes de usar el
distribuidor de agua. Para efectuar la descarga del sistema de
agua, consulte la sección “Preparación del sistema de agua”.
Sistema de filtración de agua interior
(en algunos modelos)
El cartucho del filtro de agua interior está situado en el extremo
superior del compartimiento para alimentos frescos del
frigorífico. Se recomienda cambiar el cartucho del filtro de agua
cada seis meses o antes si el flujo de agua del distribuidor o de la
máquina de hacer hielo disminuye de modo evidente.
IMPORTANTE: Dependiendo de su modelo, la bandeja pequeña
desmontable que se encuentra en el fondo del distribuidor está
diseñada para recoger derrames pequeños y permitir una limpieza
fácil. La bandeja no tiene drenaje. La bandeja puede quitarse del
distribuidor y ser llevada a un lavabo para vaciarla y limpiarla.
Cómo cambiar el cartucho del filtro de agua interior
1. Gire el cartucho ¹⁄₄ de vuelta a la izquierda. La señal de
INSTALL (Instalar) deberá alinearse con la raya del indicador
situada en la cubierta del soporte de montaje del filtro.
2. Con cuidado, empuje el cartucho hacia abajo para sacarlo
del soporte de montaje. Para evitar que se derrame agua

La luz del distribuidor (en algunos modelos)
La zona del distribuidor tiene una luz. Se puede encender
manualmente pulsando el botón ON (encendido) que está al lado
derecho del panel de controles. El indicador rojo que está encima
del botón ON aparecerá.
En algunos modelos: Cada vez que utilice el distribuidor, la
palanca automáticamente encenderá la luz.
En modelos que no disponen de hielo picado, el interruptor de
luz es del tipo oscilante. Empuje el interruptor para encender la
luz, y empújelo de nuevo para apagar la luz.
4. Alinee la señal de INSTALL (instalar) de la etiqueta del filtro
con la raya del indicador que está moldeada en la cubierta
del soporte de montaje. Introduzca el cartucho en el soporte
del montaje. Gire el cartucho un ¹⁄₄ de vuelta a la derecha
para encajarlo en su lugar. La señal de REMOVE (retirar)
deberá estar alineada con la raya del indicador situada en la

NOTA: La función del seguro no interrumpe el suministro

producción máxima de hielo, la máquina de hacer hielo
deberá producir aproximadamente de 10 a 14 lotes de hielo
en un período de 24 horas. Si su frigorífico tiene la
característica de producción máxima de hielo, empuje el
interruptor a MAX (Máximo).
Cuidado del recipiente de hielo o cubitera:
1. Desocupe el recipiente de hielo. Utilice agua tibia para
derretir el hielo si fuera necesario.
NOTA: Nunca emplee objetos agudos para partir el hielo en
el recipiente o cubitera. Esto podría dañar el recipiente de

1. Saque el estante/soporte inclinándolo hacia arriba en la parte
delantera y levantándolo hacia arriba y fuera de los soportes
de estantes.
Evite la conexión de su máquina de hacer hielo a un
suministro de agua blanda. Los químicos para ablandar el
agua (como la sal) pueden dañar ciertos componentes de la
máquina de hacer hielo y producir un hielo de muy baja
calidad. Si no se puede evitar el uso de un suministro de
agua blanda, asegúrese de que el ablandador de agua esté

1. Levante el estante, deslizándolo primero hacia atrás y hacia
abajo para que quede a media anchura. (Usted puede utilizar
el estante en esta posición para guardar artículos más altos
en el estante inferior).
Estantes del frigorífico
Su modelo puede tener estantes de vidrio o de alambre.
Almacene juntos alimentos similares en el frigorífico y coloque los

Control de temperatura del compartimiento
convertible para verduras/carne
1. Quite el compartimiento para embutidos, deslizándolo hacia
fuera hasta el tope. Levante la parte frontal y deslice el
compartimiento por completo hacia fuera.
El compartimiento convertible para verduras/carne puede
regularse para refrigerar adecuadamente las carnes o verduras. El
aire interior del recipiente se enfría para prevenir el congelamiento
“de punto” y puede regularse para guardar las carnes a
temperaturas de almacenamiento que recomienda el National
Livestock and Meat Board (Consejo nacional de productos
ganaderos y de carne), las cuales son: 28˚ a 32˚F (-2˚ a 0˚C).
2. Vuelva a colocar el compartimiento para embutidos,
deslizándolo nuevamente hacia adentro hasta después del
tope.
IMPORTANTE: Para prolongar la frescura, envuelva las carnes
con materiales herméticos y resistentes a la humedad antes de
guardarlas. Guarde siempre la carne tal como se recomienda.
Ajuste del control
El control convertible viene prefijado de fábrica en el ajuste más
bajo para carnes.
Compartimientos convertibles para
verduras/carne, fresquera y tapas
(en algunos modelos)
Para cambiar un ajuste de control: Mueva el control hacia la
derecha (más frío) o hacia la izquierda (menos frío) según lo desee.
Para almacenar verduras: Fije el control en el ajuste VEG,
totalmente hacia la izquierda, para conservar las verduras a las
temperaturas óptimas de almacenamiento (las cuales deben ser
más calientes que las utilizadas para carnes).
Fresquera y compartimientos convertibles para verduras/
carnes
Para quitar y volver a colocar los compartimientos:
1. Deslice la fresquera o el compartimiento para carnes hacia
afuera, hasta el tope. Levante la parte del frente con una
mano mientras sostiene la parte inferior del compartimiento
con la otra mano, y deslice el compartimiento
completamente hacia fuera.
2. Vuelva a colocar el compartimiento para la carne o fresquera
deslizándolo hacia dentro hasta pasar el tope.
IMPORTANTE: Si los alimentos comienzan a congelarse, mueva
el control hacia la izquierda (menos frío). Recuerde que se debe
esperar 24 horas entre ajustes. El hacerlo da a la temperatura de
los alimentos el tiempo de cambiar.
Tapas de la fresquera o del compartimiento para verduras/
carne
Guía para la conservación de carnes
Para quitar y volver a colocar las tapas:
Conserve la mayoría de la carne en el envoltorio original de la
tienda, siempre y cuando sea hermético y a prueba de humedad.
Envuélvala de nuevo si es necesario. Para el tiempo de
conservación, consulte la tabla que figura a continuación.
Cuando vaya a almacenar la carne por más tiempo del aquí
mencionado, congélela.
1. Quite la fresquera y el compartimiento para carne. Presione
hacia arriba en el centro de la parte de vidrio de la fresquera
hasta que se separe del soporte de plástico. Detenga el vidrio
de la fresquera firmemente y con cuidado deslícelo hacia
delante para quitarlo.
Pescado fresco o mariscos......úselos el mismo día de su compra
Pollo, carne picada, carnes variadas (hígado, etc)............1-2 días
2. Levante el soporte de la tapa de la fresquera y quítelo. Repita
los mismos pasos para quitar la tapa del compartimiento
para la carne.

Sobras - Cubra las sobras con plástico o con papel de aluminio,
o con recipientes de plástico con tapas herméticas.
Control de humedad de la fresquera
(en algunos modelos)
3. Vuelva a colocar la parte posterior del soporte de la tapa del
compartimiento para carne en los soportes o correderas que
se encuentran en las paredes laterales del frigorífico y baje o
deslice la parte delantera del soporte de la tapa hasta
colocarlo en su lugar.
Ud. puede controlar el nivel de humedad en la fresquera. Ponga el
control en cualquier posición entre LOW (Bajo) y HIGH (Alto).
LOW (Posición abierta) deja que salga el aire húmedo la fresquera,
y es el más adecuado para conservar frutas y verduras con piel.
4. Deslice la parte posterior del vidrio que está insertado en el
marco de la tapa y baje la parte delantera hasta colocarla en
su lugar. Repita los mismos pasos para colocar la tapa de la
fresquera.
Frutas: Lave, deje secar y guarde en el frigorífico en bolsas
de plástico o en la fresquera. No lave ni limpie las bayas
(fresas, moras, frambuesas, etc.) hasta el momento de
consumir. Divida y mantenga las bayas en el recipiente
original en la fresquera o guárdelas en una bolsa de papel
ligeramente cerrada en un estante dentro del frigorífico.
Verduras con cáscaras: Colóquelas en bolsas de plástico o
recipientes de plástico y guárdelas en la fresquera.
HIGH (Posición cerrada) conserva la humedad en la fresquera, y
es el más adecuado para conservar verduras frescas de hoja.

elimine los bordes en mal estado o descoloridos. Colóquelas
en bolsas o contenedores de plástico y guárdelas en la

Guía para la conservación de congelados
Los períodos de conservación variarán según la calidad y el tipo
de los alimentos, el tipo de embalaje o envoltura empleada
(deberá ser hermético y a prueba de humedad), y la temperatura
de conservación. Esto simplemente significa que se ha
condensado la humedad en el alimento y en el aire que está en el
interior del paquete, lo que ha creado cristales de hielo. Es normal
que hayan cristales de hielo dentro de un paquete sellado.
Ubicación del control de humedad:

No coloque en el frigorífico más alimentos sin congelar de los

Limpieza

1. Quite los rieles, tirando hacia arriba de cada extremo del riel.

líquidos inflamables o ceras limpiadoras, detergentes
concentrados, lejía o productos de limpieza hechos a
base de petróleo en materiales de plástico,

NOTA: Para mantener su frigorífico de acero inoxidable como
nuevo, y para quitar pequeñas rozaduras o marcas, se
sugiere el uso del Limpiador de acero inoxidable aprobado
por el fabricante.
IMPORTANTE: ¡Este limpiador es solamente para partes de
acero inoxidable!
No permita que el limpiador de acero inoxidable entre en
contacto con ninguna de las partes de plástico, tales como
las piezas decorativas, las cubiertas del distribuidor o las

Vuelva a colocar la pantalla de luz, introduciendo las

del frigorífico o congelador. Luego, doble con cuidado la
parte central de la pantalla para introducir las lengüetas en el
otro extremo.
5. No hay necesidad de limpiar periódicamente el condensador
bajo condiciones normales de funcionamiento en el hogar. Si
el ambiente está muy grasoso o polvoriento, o si hay un
tráfico significativo de animales domésticos en la casa, el
condensador deberá limpiarse cada dos a tres meses para

Cómo cambiar las bombillas
NOTA: No todas las bombillas son apropiadas para el frigorífico.
Asegúrese que cambia la bombilla usada por otra del mismo
tamaño y forma. La luz del distribuidor exige una bombilla de 10
vatios y de gran potencia. Todas las demás luces exigen una
bombilla para electrodomésticos de 40 vatios. Las bombillas de
reposición están disponibles en el distribuidor.
Luz inferior del congelador debajo del recipiente de hielo (en
algunos modelos)
Quite la pantalla de la luz, sujetando con firmeza los lados y
apretando hacia el centro. Una vez que los ganchos laterales

Extienda la mano para quitar la bombilla que se encuentra en la
zona del distribuidor y reemplácela.
Luz inferior del congelador detrás de la cesta superior del
congelador (en algunos modelos)
Dependiendo del modelo, quite la cesta superior del
congelador o el estante de la cesta superior del congelador.
Quite la pantalla de la luz, sacando el tornillo Phillips de la
parte superior de la pantalla. Gire con cuidado la pantalla
hasta que se pueda tirar con suavidad la lengüeta izquierda
de la pared del congelador.

RECUERDE: Un congelador lleno mantendrá una temperatura
baja por más tiempo que uno medio vacío. Un congelador lleno
de carne mantiene el frío por más tiempo que uno lleno de
productos de panadería. Si observa que los productos tienen
cristales de hielo, puede volver a congelarlos , aunque la calidad
y el sabor pueden verse afectados. Si el alimento no está en
buenas condiciones, deshágase de él.
9. Mantenga las puertas cerradas con cinta adhesiva y pegue
también el cable al gabinete del frigorífico.
Cuando llegue a la nueva casa, coloque todo de nuevo en sus
lugares respectivos y consulte la sección “Instalación del
frigorífico” para saber cómo volverlo a instalar. Además, si su
frigorífico dispone de una máquina de hacer hielo, no olvide
conectar de nuevo el suministro de agua al frigorífico.
Cuidado durante las vacaciones y mudanzas
Vacaciones
Si decide dejar el frigorífico encendido mientras está fuera, siga
estas instrucciones para preparar el frigorífico antes de irse.
IDENTIFICACIÓN Y

El frigorífico no funciona

4. Limpie el frigorífico, aclare y séquelo bien.
5. Coloque cuñas de caucho o de madera en la parte superior
de ambas puertas para mantenerlas lo suficientemente
abiertas como para que penetre aire en el interior. Esto evita
la formación de olores y de moho. Tenga cuidado de no
dañar el sello de la puerta con las cuñas.
¿No está enfriando el frigorífico? Para modelos con
controles digitales, gire la unidad a OFF (apagado) y luego a
ON (encendido) para volver a fijarla. Vea la sección “Ajuste o
Uso de los controles”. Si ésto no corrige el problema, llame al
servicio técnico.
Mudanza
Las luces no se encienden
Si va a trasladar su frigorífico a su nueva casa, siga los siguientes
pasos a fin de prepararse para la mudanza.
¿Está desenchufado el cable de suministro eléctrico?
Enchufe el cable firmemente en una salida puesta a tierra.
1. Si su frigorífico dispone de una máquina de hacer hielo:

Hay agua en la bandeja de descongelación
¿ Está descongelando el frigorífico? El agua se evaporará.
Es normal que el agua gotee en la bandeja de
descongelación.
¿Hay más humedad de lo habitual? El agua en la bandeja
de descongelación tardará más en evaporarse cuando hay
mucha humedad en el ambiente.
¿Está abierta la válvula de paso del suministro? Abra la
válvula de paso. Consulte la sección “Conexión del
suministro de agua”.
¿Tiene agua el molde de la máquina de hacer hielo o no
ha producido hielo? Compruebe que el frigorífico esté
conectado a su suministro de agua doméstico y que la
válvula de paso esté abierta. Consulte la sección “Conexión
del suministro de agua”.
Parece que el motor funciona en exceso
¿Está la temperatura ambiental más alta de lo habitual?
Cuando hace calor, lo normal es que el motor funcione por
más tiempo. A temperaturas ambientales normales, el motor
funcionará de un 40 a un 80% del tiempo. A temperaturas
más altas, el motor funcionará durante más tiempo.
¿Se ha atascado un cubito en el brazo eyector de la
máquina de hacer hielo? Para los modelos con una cubitera
interior, saque el hielo del brazo eyector con un utensilio de
plástico. Para los modelos con una cubitera ubicada en la
puerta del congelador, obtenga acceso a la máquina de hielo
oprimiendo la puerta del sensor de hielo en el lado superior
izquierdo de la puerta del congelador. Mientras oprime la
puerta del sensor, levante la puerta de servicio de la máquina
de hielo y saque el cubito del brazo eyector con un utensilio
de plástico. Consulte la sección “Máquina de hacer hielo y
recipiente/cubitera de almacenamiento”.
¿Se acaban de colocar muchos alimentos en el
frigorífico? Cuando se agregan muchos productos nuevos el
frigorífico se calienta. Es normal que el motor funcione por
más tiempo para poder refrigerar el frigorífico de nuevo.
¿Se abren las puertas a menudo? El motor deberá
funcionar por más tiempo cuando esto sucede. Para ahorrar
electricidad, trate de sacar todo lo que necesita del frigorífico
de una sola vez, mantenga los productos ordenados de tal
manera que sea fácil encontrar lo que busca y cierre la puerta
inmediatamente después de sacar lo que desea.
¿Acaba de sacar una gran cantidad de hielo? Deje que
transcurran 24 horas antes de que la máquina de hacer hielo
retome la producción.
¿No están los controles programados correctamente de
acuerdo con las condiciones ambientales? Consulte la
sección “Ajuste o Uso de los controles”.
¿Están los controles programados correctamente?
Refiérase a la sección “Ajuste o Uso de los Controles”.
¿Las puertas no se cierran bien? Cierre bien las puertas. Si
no quedan completamente cerradas, consulte el apartado
“Las puertas no cierran bien”, que figura más adelante.
¿Tiene un filtro de agua instalado en el frigorífico? Este
filtro de agua puede estar atascado o instalado
incorrectamente. En primer lugar, consulte las instrucciones
de instalación del filtro para cerciorarse de que el filtro esté
bien instalado y de que no esté atascado. Si el problema no
radica ni en la instalación ni en que está atascado, llame a un
técnico u otra persona similarmente cualificada.
¿Están sucios los serpentines del condensador? Esto
impide la circulación de aire y hace que el motor tenga que
trabajar más. Limpie los serpentines del condensador.

NOTA: Si el problema no se debe a ninguna de estas razones,
puede haber un problema en la tubería de agua. Llame al servicio
técnico.
¿No están las juntas de la puerta selladas alrededor de la
misma? Contacte a un técnico u otra persona cualificada.
NOTA: El nuevo frigorífico funcionará por períodos más
prolongados que su viejo frigorífico debido a su motor de alto
rendimiento.
El hielo tiene mal sabor o mal olor, o un color gris
¿Son nuevas las conexiones de las tuberías, lo que
causaría que el hielo tuviera un color raro o mal sabor?
Deseche los primeros lotes de hielo.
Parece que el frigorífico hace demasiado ruido
Estos ruidos pueden ser normales para su frigorífico.
Consulte la sección “Sonidos normales”.
¿Han estado los cubitos de hielo almacenados por largo
tiempo? Tire el hielo viejo y haga nuevos lotes.
¿Hay que limpiar el congelador y el recipiente o la
cubitera? Consulte la sección “Limpieza” o “Máquina de
hacer hielo y recipiente/cubitera de almacenamiento”.
La máquina de hacer hielo no fabrica hielo o no produce
suficiente hielo
¿Acaba de instalar la máquina de hacer hielo? Espere 72
horas para que la máquina de hacer hielo fabrique hielo
según su plena capacidad. Una vez que su frigorífico se haya
enfriado, la máquina de hacer hielo empezará a fabricar de 70
a 120 cubitos cada 24 horas.
¿Se ha envuelto adecuadamente la comida en el
frigorífico? Use un paquete hermético y a prueba de
humedad cuando almacene los alimentos para evitar la
transferencia de olor.
¿Hay minerales (como sulfuro) en el agua? Debería instalar
un filtro para eliminar los minerales.
¿Está la temperatura del congelador lo suficientemente
fría como para hacer hielo? Espere 24 horas después de
haber conectado la máquina de hacer hielo. Consulte la
sección “Ajuste o Uso de los controles”.
¿Tiene un filtro de agua instalado en el frigorífico? La
coloración grisácea u oscura en el hielo indica que el sistema

El distribuidor de hielo no funciona adecuadamente
El distribuidor de agua no funciona correctamente
¿Está bien cerrada la puerta del congelador? Cierre bien la
puerta. Si no queda completamente cerrada, consulte “Las
puertas no cierran bien”, que se detalla más adelante en esta
sección.
¿No se ha llenado el sistema de agua? Se necesita llenar el
sistema de agua la primera vez que se usa. Use un
contenedor resistente para oprimir la barra del distribuidor de
agua hasta que el agua comience a salir. Limpie el sistema de
agua distribuyendo y desechando de 2 a 3 galones (de 8 a 12
L) de agua. La limpieza del sistema le llevará de 6 a 7 minutos
aproximadamente, y ayudará a limpiar el aire de la línea. En
algunas casas puede requerirse una limpieza adicional.

¿Está bien instalado el recipiente del hielo o cubitera?
Para modelos dotados de un recipiente interior del hielo,
empuje el recipiente del hielo por completo. Si el recipiente
del hielo no entra completamente, es posible que no esté
derecho. Tire del mismo hacia fuera e inténtelo de nuevo.
Para modelos dotados de una cubitera, ésta deberá
asentarse de modo horizontal en la puerta del congelador.
Para quitar la cubitera, pulse el botón liberador que está en el
lado derecho de la cubitera y levántela hacia arriba. Vuelva a
colocar la cubitera en la puerta, cerciorándose de que esté
debidamente alineada y que haya encajado con firmeza en su
lugar. Consulte la sección “Máquina de hacer hielo y
recipiente/cubitera de almacenamiento”.
¿No está la válvula de paso abierta, o el suministro de
agua no está conectado a la fuente? Cerciórese de que la
válvula de paso del agua está abierta y que el suministro de
agua esté conectado al frigorífico. Consulte la sección
“Conexión del suministro de agua”.
¿Está la válvula de paso obstruida o mal instalada?
Consulte la sección “Conexión del suministro de agua”. Si no
hay problema de instalación o de obstrucción, llame al
servicio técnico o a un fontanero.
¿Se ha agregado hielo inapropiado en el recipiente o
cubitera? Utilice únicamente cubitos producidos por la
máquina de hacer hielo. Si se han agregado otros cubitos,
retire todos los cubitos y compruebe que ninguno esté
pegado en el vertedor.
¿Está retorcida la tubería del agua de la casa? Si usted
encuentra o sospecha un retorcimiento en la tubería del
agua, llame al servicio técnico.
¿Se ha instalado un filtro de agua en el frigorífico? Este
filtro podría estar obstruido o mal instalado. En primer lugar,
verifique las instrucciones de instalación del filtro para
cerciorarse de que el filtro ha sido instalado correctamente y
no está obstruido. Si no se trata de una obstrucción o mala
instalación, llame al servicio técnico.
¿Se ha congelado el hielo en el recipiente de hielo o
cubitera? Sacuda el recipiente del hielo o cubitera para
separar los cubitos. Si los cubitos no se despegan, desocupe
el recipiente o cubitera y espere 24 horas para volver a
abastecerse de hielo.
¿Se ha derretido el hielo alrededor del transportador de
hélice en la cubitera? Tire los cubitos de hielo y limpie bien
la cubitera. Deje transcurrir 24 horas para que la máquina de
hacer hielo pueda reabastecerse. No intente quitar el hielo
derretido con un objeto afilado. Podría dañar la cubitera.
Goteo de agua o hielo proveniente del distribuidor
¿No se mantiene el vaso debajo del distribuidor de hielo
el tiempo suficiente lo que causa derrames del hielo?
Mantenga el recipiente debajo del vertedor de hielo unos dos
a tres segundos después de soltar la palanca del distribuidor.
Después de soltar la palanca, quizás se vierta una pequeña
cantidad de hielo o de agua.
¿Hay hielo pegado obstruyendo el vertedor? Despeje el
hielo que está en el vertedor con un utensilio de plástico. No
utilice nada afilado para quitar el hielo. Podría dañar la
unidad.
¿Hay un cubito de hielo pegado en el vertedor que
mantiene la trampilla abierta? Retire el cubito.
¿Se atasca el distribuidor de hielo cuando distribuye hielo
“picado”? Deje de sacar hielo. Cambie el botón del hielo de
“picado” a “cubitos”. Oprima el distribuidor de hielo usando
un vaso resistente. Si el hielo en cubitos de distribuye
correctamente, oprima el botón para hielo “picado” y
comience nuevamente a sacar hielo. Consulte la sección
“Distribuidores de agua y hielo”.
¿Se ha instalado un filtro de agua en el frigorífico? El
sistema de filtración del agua podría tener aire en las
tuberías, lo que ocasiona chorreo del agua. Una purga
adicional podrá ayudar a eliminar el aire que se encuentra en
las tuberías. El uso normal del distribuidor automático deberá
eliminar el aire de las tuberías en un período de 24 a 72
horas.
¿Hay hielo en la cubitera? Consulte “La máquina de hacer
hielo no está produciendo hielo”, que se detalló
anteriormente en esta sección.
El flujo de agua del distribuidor disminuye notablemente
¿Se ha presionado el brazo del distribuidor por mucho
tiempo? Suelte el brazo del distribuidor. Si se presiona el
brazo del distribuidor por mucho tiempo, se detendrá la
distribución de hielo. Espere tres minutos para que el motor
del distribuidor se reajuste antes de usarlo nuevamente. Es
mejor coger grandes cantidades de hielo directamente de la
máquina de hacer hielo, no del distribuidor.
¿Se ha instalado un filtro de agua en el frigorífico? Es
posible que el filtro esté lleno o instalado incorrectamente.
Saque el cartucho del filtro de agua (vea la sección “Sistema
de filtración del agua”) Ponga a funcionar el distribuidor. Si el
flujo de agua aumenta considerablemente, cambie el filtro.
Es difícil sacar la cubitera
¿Es difícil sacar la cubitera (en algunos modelos)? Para
los modelos con una cubitera ubicada en la puerta del
congelador, seleccione hielo en “cubitos”. Usando un vaso
resistente oprima y libere rápidamente el brazo del
distribuidor de hielo. Abra la puerta del congelador, oprima el
botón para liberar en la cubitera y levántelo. Consulte la

¿Se acaba de terminar un ciclo de descongelación
automática? Es normal que se formen gotitas en la pared
trasera una vez completado el ciclo de descongelación
automática.
El agua del distribuidor no está bien fría
¿Se acaba de instalar el frigorífico? Deje transcurrir 24
horas para que el frigorífico se enfríe por completo.
¿Se ha servido recientemente una gran cantidad de
agua? Deje transcurrir 24 horas para que el agua se enfríe
por completo.
Las puertas no cierran bien
¿Hay paquetes bloqueando la puerta e impidiendo que
cierre bien? Vuelva a ordenar los paquetes de manera que
ocupen menos espacio.
¿No se ha servido agua recientemente? El primer vaso de
agua quizás no esté bien fría. Tire el primer vaso de agua.
¿Está mal colocada la cubitera o el recipiente de
almacenamiento? Para los modelos con una cubitera
interior, empuje la cubitera interior hacia adentro
La división entre los dos compartimientos está muy caliente
completamente. Si la cubitera no entra completamente, es
posible que no esté derecha. Sáquela y vuelva a intentarlo.
Para los modelos con una cubitera ubicada en la puerta del
congelador, la cubitera debe estar nivelada. Para sacarla,
presione el botón para liberarla que está en el lado derecho
de la cubitera y levántela. Vuelva a colocar la cubitera en la
puerta asegurándose que está debidamente alineada y
encajada con firmeza en su lugar. Vea la sección “Máquina de
hacer hielo y recipiente/cubitera de almacenamiento”.
Este calor probablemente se deba al funcionamiento normal
del control exterior de humedad automático. Si todavía le
preocupa, llame solicitando servicio.
La temperatura es demasiado alta
¿Están bloqueadas las rejillas de ventilación de alguno de
los compartimientos? Esto impide el movimiento de aire frío
del congelador al frigorífico. Retire todos los objetos de
delante de las rejillas de ventilación. Consulte la sección
“Cómo asegurar una adecuada circulación del aire” para
saber dónde se encuentran esas rejillas.
¿Están mal colocadas las bandejas, los estantes, los
recipientes o las cestas? Ponga la tapa de la fresquera y
todas las bandejas, estantes, recipientes y cestas en sus
lugares correspondientes. Vea el apartado “Fresquera y
tapas” para más información.
¿Se abre(n) la(s) puerta(s) demasiado a menudo?
Recuerde que, cuando esto pasa, el frigorífico sube de
temperatura. Para mantener frío el frigorífico, trate de sacar
todo lo que necesita del frigorífico de una sola vez, mantenga
los productos ordenados y cierre la puerta tan pronto como
le sea posible.
¿Están las juntas pegajosas? Limpie las juntas según las
instrucciones en la sección “Limpieza”.
¿Se tambalea el frigorífico, o no parece muy estable?
Nivele el frigorífico. Consulte la sección “Cierre de la puerta”
o "Nivelación del frigorífico", dependiendo del modelo.
¿Se acaban de colocar muchos alimentos en el
congelador o en la nevera? Cuando se agregan muchos
productos nuevos el frigorífico se calienta. Puede tardar
varias horas para que el frigorífico vuelva a la temperatura
normal.
¿Se desmontaron las puertas durante la instalación del
aparato y no se volvieron a montar correctamente? Retire
las puertas y vuélvalas a montar según las instrucciones
detalladas en la sección “Desmontaje de las puertas”, o llame
a un técnico cualificado.
¿Están los controles programados correctamente de
acuerdo con las condiciones ambientales? Refiérase a la
sección “Ajuste o Uso de los controles”.
Es difícil abrir las puertas
¿No está enfriando el frigorífico? Para modelos con
controles digitales, gire la unidad a OFF (apagado) y luego a
ON (encendido) para volver a fijarla. Vea la sección “Ajuste o
Uso de los controles”. Si ésto no corrige el problema, llame al
servicio técnico.
¿Están las juntas sucias o pegajosas? Limpie las juntas
según las instrucciones en la sección “Limpieza”.
Identificación y reparación de averías para ordenadores (en
algunos modelos)
Se acumula humedad en el interior
Vea la “Guía para usuarios de computadora y software” para
obtener información sobre su sistema de ordenador.
¿Están bloqueadas las rejillas de ventilación? Retire todos
los objetos de delante de las rejillas de ventilación. Consulte
la sección “Cómo asegurar una adecuada circulación del
aire” para saber dónde se encuentran esas rejillas.
¿Se abre(n) la(s) puerta(s) demasiado a menudo? Para
evitar que la humedad se acumule, trate de sacar todo lo que
necesita del frigorífico de una sola vez, mantenga los
productos ordenados de tal manera que sea fácil encontrar lo
que busca y cierre la puerta tan pronto como le sea posible.
¿Hay humedad en el ambiente? Es normal que se acumule
la humedad en el frigorífico si la humedad ambiente es alta.
¿Están bien envueltos los alimentos? Compruebe que
todos los alimentos estén bien envueltos. Seque bien los
contenedores antes de colocarlos en el frigorífico.
¿Están los controles programados correctamente de
acuerdo con las condiciones ambientales? Refiérase a la
sección “Ajuste o Uso de los controles”.
