If the exterior becomes dirty, wipe it with a
clean, dry cloth. Do not use liquid clean-
ers such as benzene or thinner, or clean-
ing compounds or flammable polishes.

Controls
Note: Always turn off your guitar amplifier
before you connect your guitar cables,
power supply cables, or change the battery
in your Big Bad Wah, to avoid damaging
your amp.

1. ON/OFF: Like a traditional wah, the Big
Bad Wah is turned on and off via a foot-
switch under the treadle. Just push down
firmly with your foot to turn the Big Bad
Wah on and off.

2. AMPLIFIER: This is the 1/4" output. Plug a
second guitar cable between this and your
amp, or between this and the next pedal in
your chain.

3. DC9V: Plug an optional DC9V Adapter.

4. DRIVE: This knob controls the Drive effect
of Wah 2. This control boosts the signal by
up to10dB! At its lowest setting, Wah 2 will
have the same gain level as Wah 1. At its

maximum settings, the Drive knob will introduce a subtle or “growly” overdrive
type of effect, for aggressive wah tones.
5. INSTRUMENT: This is the 1/4" input. Plug your guitar into this. For extended
battery life, always unplug your guitar cable from the input when not in use.
6. VOICE: This two position mini-toggle switch enables you to choose between
two different voices for your Wah 2 sound. The “up” position is a familiarly
“bright” wah sound typical of most stock wahs. The “down” position is a much
darker and “vowely” sound, reminiscent of a talk box.
7. “INDUCTOR” LED: This LED turns on when a modern US-style inductor.
8. INDUCTOR: This button selects one of the two inductors in the Big Bad Wah.
Joe loves vintage “UK-style” VOX wahs for their sweet, musical tone. He also
likes modern, American-made wahs for their punch and clarity.The Big Bad Wah
lets you choose between a vintage-style VOX inductor (Green LED turns off) or a
modern US-style inductor (Green LED turns on). This selection is global, mean-
ing your choice of inductor will apply to Wah 1 and Wah 2.
9. “WAH2” LED: This LED turns on when WAH2.
10. WAH 1/2: This footswitch lets you switch between two completely different
wahs instantly, while you play. With the wah turned on, tap this footswitch to
switch between Wah 1 (Red LED turns off), a fixed wah sound based on a VOX
wah hot-rodded to Joe’s specs and Wah 2 (Red LED turns on), a totally customiz-
able wah with dedicated Drive and Voice controls.

Battery compartment: This is where you can access the 9V battery.
“Changing the battery”
1. Open the battery case on the bottom of the
pedal and remove the 9V battery (6F22).
2. Remove the battery snap from the 9V bat-
tery.
3. Install a new battery onto the snap and
put the battery back into the case.
4. Close the battery case.
Note: Remove the 9V battery from the
pedal when not using it for long time peri-
ods.

The Big Bad Wah Story & Special Features
The Big Bad wah is a dual wah pedal that enables footswitchable access to two com-
pletely different wahs in one pedal. Over the years, Joe has used a number of wah
pedals, from vintage “UK-style” VOX wahs to the modern, American-made wahs
that have found their way onto many of Joe’s greatest tracks. When we started
designing a wah pedal with Joe, we thought: “Wouldn’t it be great if we could make a
wah that could do it all? British sounds, American sounds, vintage sounds, modern
sounds, normal sounds, crazy sounds, and so on.” The result is the Big Bad Wah—the
biggest, baddest wah we’ve ever made.

Special features of the Big Bad Wah:

Dual mode wah
Here’s how it works. Wah 1 is a fixed wah. This wah sound is based on the classic
VOX wah sound only hot-rodded to Joe’s specs. You’ll notice the incredibly smooth
sweep of this wah from low to high. We spent a lot of time on that with Joe, so we
hope you enjoy it! Wah 2 is where you can have a lot of fun customizing your ideal
wah tone with the Drive and Voice controls. Those controls only apply to Wah 2. So
you can create your own sound with Wah 2 then switch back and forth between Wah
1 and Wah 2 with the aptly named Wah 1/2 foot switch. The Big Bad wah is truly two
wahs in one!

Two Inductors
The inductor is a gumdrop-shaped component that is the “heart” of a wah pedal’s
character. Throughout the history of the wah, particularly the most sought-after vin-
tage VOX wahs, the inductors have changed. Modern, US-made wahs often use dif-
ferent inductors than were used in the first VOX wahs. This is why different wahs
sound different from each other, and why people collect different types of wahs. The
Big Bad Wah has TWO inductors—a UK-style inductor, designed like our classic VOX
inductors, and a US-style inductor, designed to perform like modern, American
inductors. With the Big Bad Wah, you can choose your favorite inductor by pressing
the Inductor button.

VOX/JS Custom Pot
The Big Bad Wah features a custom pot designed specifically for this wah to Joe Satri-
ani’s specifications. The pot is the component that controls the “sweep” of the wah

pedal’s sound, from low to high. The custom pot in the Big Bad Wah is custom
designed to be incredibly smooth and musical all the way along its “throw” or range.

Drive control
The Drive control on the Big Bad Wah allows you to add a boost of up to 10dB to
Wah2. This allows you to set your Wah 2 sound hotter than Wah 1 so that you can use
Wah 2 as a boost for solos.
Voice switch
The Voice switch operates on Wah 2 only. In its “up” position, it produces a tradi-
tional “bright” wah sound. In its “down” position, it produces a dark, vowely tone,
reminiscent of a talk box.

Compartiment à pile: C’est ici que la pile 9V est logée.
Changer la pile
1. Ouvrez le compartiment à pile sous la
pédale et retirez la pile 9V(6F22).
2. Détachez la pile 9V des contacts.
3. Fixez une nouvelle pile aux contacts et
placez-la dans le compartiment.
4. Refermez le couvercle du compartiment à
piles.
Remarque: Retirez la pile 9V du compar-
timent si vous n’utilisez pas la pédale
durant une période prolongée.

Histoire de la Big Bad Wah & caractéristiques spéciales
La Big Bad Wah est une pédale à double wah offrant un accès instantané à deux wahs
complètement différents dans une seule pédale. Au cours des années, Joe s’est servi
d’un bon nombre de pédales wah, allant des wahs VOX de “style UK” vintage aux
wahs modernes américains qui se retrouvent sur les meilleurs enregistrements de Joe.
Quand nous avons entamé les premières ébauches de la pédale wah avec Joe, nous
nous sommes dit: “Pourquoi ne pas créer un wah qui peut tout faire?, des sons britan-
niques et américains, vintage et modernes, normaux et dingues etc.” Le résultat est
un Big Bad Wah—le plus grand, le plus redoutable wah que nous ayons jamais réa-
lisé.

Caractéristiques spéciales de la pédale Big Bad Wah
• Mode double wah
Voici comment il fonctionne. “Wah 1” est un wah fixe. Il est basé sur le son du wah
VOX classique, revu et corrigé par Joe. Vous noterez l’incroyable fluidité du balayage
de ce wah. Nous avons passé un temps fou à le peaufiner avec Joe et nous espérons
que vous l’aimerez! “Wah 2”, par contre, vous permet de customiser votre wah avec
les commandes DRIVE et VOICE. Ces commandes n’ont d’effet que sur “Wah 2”.
Vous pouvez donc créer votre propre son avec “Wah 2” puis aller et venir entre “Wah
1” et Wah 2 avec le commutateur au pied WAH 1/2. La pédale Big Bad Wah propose
réellement deux wahs en un!
• Deux inducteurs
L’inducteur est composant qui ressemble à un bonbon et qui est à l’origine du carac-
tère de la pédale wah. Au cours de l’histoire de l’effet wah, notamment des fameux
wahs VOX vintage, les inducteurs ont changé plusieurs fois. Les wahs modernes,
fabriqués aux États-Unis, utilisent souvent des inducteurs différents de ceux utilisés
dans les premières pédales wah VOX. Cela explique les différences d’un effet à l’autre
et la raison pour laquelle les guitaristes collectionnent plusieurs types de wah. La
pédale Big Bad Wah a DEUX inducteurs—un modèle UK, conçu comme nos induc-
teurs VOX classiques et un modèle US, conçu comme les inducteurs américains
modernes. La pédale Big Bad Wah vous permet donc de sélectionner votre inducteur
favori en appuyant sur le bouton INDUCTOR.

• Potentiomètre VOX/JS
La pédale Big Bad Wah dispose d’un potentiomètre taillé sur mesure, selon les spécifi-
cations de Joe Satriani. Ce potentiomètre détermine les mouvements de l’effet wah. Il
a été spécialement étudié pour que la Big Bad Wah génère des mouvements de filtre
d’une extraordinaire fluidité sur toute sa course.
• Commande DRIVE
La commande DRIVE de la pédale Big Bad Wah vous permet d’augmenter le niveau
du “Wah 2” (jusqu’à +10dB). “Wah 2” peut ainsi être plus déchirant mais aussi plus
fort que “Wah 1” et chauffe vos solos à blanc.
• Commutateur VOICE
Le commutateur VOICE n’agit que sur “Wah 2”. En position haute, il produit un son
wah brillant conventionnel. En position basse, il génère un wah sombre aux accents
vocaux, évoquant une “talk box”.

1“. Wenn Sie den DRIVE-Regler auf den Höchstwert stellen, fängt der Sound an
zu „knurren“ und kommt herzerfrischend aggressiv daher.
5. INSTRUMENT: An diesen 1/4"-Eingang müssen Sie Ihre Gitarre anschließen.
Um die Batterie zu schonen, müssen Sie diese Verbindung nach dem Spielen so
schnell wie möglich lösen.
6. VOICE: Mit diesem Kippschalter wählen Sie einen von zwei möglichen „Wah
2“-Sounds. Schieben Sie ihn hoch, um einen „hellen“ Wah-Effekt zu erzielen,
dessen Sound Sie bestimmt schon kennen. Schieben Sie ihn hinunter, wenn Sie
einen „vokalartigen“ Sound bevorzugen, der eher an eine „Talk Box“ erinnert.
7. INDUCTOR-Diode: Diese Diode leuchtet, wenn Sie einen neuzeitlichen ameri-
kanischen Induktor wählen.
8. INDUCTOR: Mit diesem Taster wählen Sie jeweils einen der beiden Induktoren
des Big Bad Wah. Joe liebt die VOX-Wahs mit ihrem „britischen Sound“ wegen
ihres lieblichen und musikalischen Sounds. Wah-Pedale der amerikanischen
Bauart machen seiner Meinung nach aber mehr Druck und klingen heller. Des-
wegen kann man auf dem Big Bad Wah entweder den VOX-Induktor (grüne
Diode aus) oder den etwas aktuelleren US-Induktor (grüne Diode leuchtet ) wäh-
len. Diese Induktorenwahl gilt sowohl für „Wah 1“ als auch für „Wah 2“.
9. WAH2-Diode: Diese Diode leuchtet, wenn Sie „WAH2“ wählen.
10. WAH 1/2: Mit diesem Fußtaster wählen Sie eine der beiden grundverschiedenen
Wah-Schaltungen. Aktivieren Sie zuerst die Wah-Funktion und betätigen Sie

anschließend diesen Fußtaster, um abwechselnd „Wah 1“ (rote Diode erlischt),
d.h. den Sound eines nach Joes Vorgaben aufgemotzten VOX-Wahs und „Wah 2“
(rote Diode leuchtet) zu wählen. In diesem zweiten Modus können Sie den
Sound mit dem DRIVE- und VOICE-Regler ganz nach Wunsch einstellen.
Batteriefach: Hier muss die 9V-Batterie eingelegt werden.
Auswechseln der Batterie
1. Öffnen Sie das Batteriefach an der Pedal-
unterseite und entnehmen Sie die 9V-Bat-
terie (6F22).
2. Ziehen Sie die Steckleiste von der 9V-Bat-
terie.
3. Schieben Sie eine frische Batterie auf die
Steckleiste und legen Sie die Batterie in
das Fach.
4. Schließen Sie das Batteriefach.

Entstehungsgeschichte des Big Bad Wah & Sonderfunk-
tionen
Das Big Bad Wah enthält zwei Wah-Schaltungen, die man per Fußtaster wählen kann.
Im Laufe seiner Karriere hat Joe verschiedene WahWahs benutzt, so z.B. VOX-Pedale
mit einem „britischen Sound“, aber auch „moderne“ amerikanische Teile. Als wir uns
mit Joe an den Entwurf seines Wah-Pedals machten, dachten wir uns, dass ein Wah-
Pedal mit beiden Geschmacksrichtungen wohl das höchste der Gefühle wäre: Briti-
sche, amerikanische, „Vintage“- und moderne Sounds, von normalen und „völlig
kranken“ Sounds ganz zu schweigen. Daraus wurde das Big Bad Wah – das größte
und gemeinste Wah-Pedal, das wir jemals entwickelt haben.

Sonderfunktionen des Big Bad Wah:
• Zwei verschiedene Wahs.
Das Prinzip funktioniert folgendermaßen: „Wah 1“ ist ein „Stangen-Wah“, dessen
Sound sich an Joes Vorstellungen in Bezug auf ein aufgemotztes VOX-Wah orientiert.
Lassen Sie sich die butterweichen Übergänge von „zu“ zu „auf“ doch mal auf der
Zunge zergehen. Da Joe und wir eine Menge Zeit darauf verwendet haben, hoffen
wir natürlich, dass auch Sie von diesem Sound begeistert sein werden! „Wah 2“ ist
flexibler gestaltet, weil Sie sich hier mit dem DRIVE- und VOICE-Regler einen ganz
individuellen Wah-Sound zaubern können. Diese Regler beeinflussen nur „Wah 2“.
„Wah 2“ ist also für die persönliche Wah-Note gedacht, die Sie durchaus abwechselnd
mit „Wah 1“ verwenden können, indem Sie einfach den WAH 1/2-Fußschalter betäti-
gen. Das Big Bad Wah enthält also tatsächlich zwei separate Wah-Schaltungen!
• Zwei Dioden
Ein „Induktor“ sieht aus wie ein Gummitropfen und bildet das „Herzstück“ des Wah-
Sounds. Im Laufe der Geschichte –zumal bei den ersten Wah-Pedalen von VOX– wur-
den unterschiedliche Induktoren verwendet. Neuzeitliche Wahs aus den USA enthal-
ten demnach andere Induktoren als die ersten VOX-Wahs. Das erklärt die z.T.
erheblichen Klangfarbenunterschiede und ist zugleich der Grund, weshalb sich Gitar-
risten oft mehr als ein Wah-Pedal zulegen. Das Big Bad Wah enthält ZWEI Induktoren
–einen „britischen“ (jedenfalls von der Bauweise her), der stark an die legendären
VOX-Induktoren erinnert, und einen „amerikanischen“. Auf dem Big Bad Wah kann
man den jeweils benötigten Sound wählen, indem man den INDUCTOR-Taster betä-
tigt.

• VOX/JS-Potentiometer
Das Big Bad Wah enthält ein Potentiometer, das speziell für Joe Satrianis Wah-Vorstel-
lungen und -Träume entwickelt wurde. Dieses Potentiometer zeichnet für die Wah-
Bewegungen, d.h. den eigentlichen Effekt, verantwortlich. Das Potentiometer des Big
Bad Wah wurde speziell im Hinblick auf völlig stufenlose Filterbewegungen entwik-
kelt.
• DRIVE-Regler
Mit dem DRIVE-Regler des Big Bad Wah kann der Pegel von „Wah2“ um bis zu
sagenhafte 10dB angehoben werden. Somit kann „Wah 2“ nicht nur braten, sondern
auch lauter eingestellt werden als „Wah 1“, damit Ihre Soli überall im Saal deutlich
hörbar sind.
• VOICE-Schalter
Der VOICE-Schalter beeinflusst nur „Wah 2“. Wenn Sie ihn hochschieben, ist der
Wah-Sound –wie gewohnt– hell. Wenn Sie ihn dagegen nach unten schieben, werden
vokalartige Sounds erzeugt, die an eine „Talk Box“ erinnern.

agresivos.
5. INSTRUMENTO: Esta es la entrada 1/4". Enchufa tu guitarra aquí. Para aumen-
tar la duración de la batería, desconecta siempre el cable de la guitarra cuando no
esté en uso.
6. VOICE: Esta mini-conmutador de dos posiciones permite elegir entre dos voces
diferentes para el sonido de Wah 2. La posición “arriba” es un sonido familiar
wah “brillante” típico de la mayoría de wahs. La posición “abajo” ofrece un
sonido mucho más oscuro, que recuerda al sonido de un talk box.
7. LED “INDUCTOR”: El LED se enciende cuando está seleccionado un estilo
moderno (americano) de inductor.

Joe ama el sonido de los wahs VOX vintage “al estilo del Reino Unido” por su
tono suave y musical. También le gustan los wahs modernos, tipo americanos

10. WAH 1 / 2: Este pedal te permite cambiar entre dos wahs completamente diferen-
tes instantáneamente, mientras tocas. Con el wah encendido, pisa este interrup-
tor para cambiar entre Wah 1 (el LED rojo se apaga), un sonido wah basado en
un wah VOX modificado según las especificaciones de Joe, y wah 2 (el LED rojo
se enciende), un wah totalmente personalizado con controles wah de Drive y
Voice.

La gran historia del Big Bad Wah y características especiales
El Big Bad es un pedal doble wah wah que permite el acceso mediante un interruptor
a dos wahs totalmente diferentes en un solo pedal. A lo largo de los años, Joe ha utili-
zado una serie de pedales de wah, desde VOX vintage "al estilo del Reino Unido" y
wahs modernos, más americanos, que han quedado grabados en muchos de los temas
de Joe. Cuando empezamos el diseño del pedal de wah con Joe, pensamos: “¿No sería
estupendo si pudiéramos construir un wah que pudiera hacerlo todo? Sonidos britá-
nicos, sonidos americanos, sonidos vintage, sonidos modernos, sonidos normales,
sonidos locos, y así sucesivamente.” El resultado es el Big Bad Wah –el wah más
grande y potente que hemos hecho nunca.

Características especiales de la Big Bad Wah:
• Modo dual wah
He aquí cómo funciona. Wah 1 es un wah fijo. Este sonido de wah se basa en el clásico
sonido wah VOX modificado según las especificaciones de Joe's. Notarás el sweep
increíblemente suave de este wah del mínimo al máximo. Pasamos mucho tiempo con
Joe, ¡así que esperamos que os guste! Wah 2 es donde te puedes divertir personali-
zando el sonido ideal de wah con los controles de Drive y Voice. Los controles sólo se
aplican a Wah 2. Por lo tanto, puede crear su propio sonido con Wah 2 y luego cam-
biar entre el Wah 1 y Wah 2, con el interruptor de pie Wah 1/2. ¡El Big Bad Wah es
realmente dos wahs en uno!
• Dos Inductores
El inductor es un componente con forma de gominola que es el “corazón” del sonido
de un pedal de wah. A lo largo de la historia del wah, en particular los VOX vintage
más buscados, los inductores han cambiado. Los wahs modernos, tipo americanos,
suelen utilizar diferentes inductores de los que se utilizaron en los primeros wahs de

qué la gente colecciona los diferentes tipos de wahs. El Big Bad Wah tiene dos induc-

• Potenciómetros VOX personalizados
El Big Bad Wah incorpora un potenciómetro personalizado diseñado según las espe-
