Installing the Accessory Handset

Installing the Battery
Follow the steps below to ꢀnstall the
rechargeable battery pack.
ꢁ) Using the finger indentation, press in on
the battery case cover and slꢀde ꢀt down
to remove ꢀt.
ꢂ) Plug the battery connector ꢀnto the
battery compartment jack. Be sure to
match the red and black wꢀres to the
label near the jack.
3) Gently pull on the battery wꢀres. If the
battery connector comes loose, try
connectꢀng ꢀt agaꢀn.
4) Replace the battery case cover and slꢀde
ꢀt up untꢀl ꢀt clꢀcks ꢀnto place.
Note: Use only the Uniden BT-909 rechargeable battery pack
supplied with your cordless telephone.

Installing the Belt Clip
Lꢀne up the tabs wꢀth the holes on each sꢀde of
the handset. Press the belt clꢀp down untꢀl both
tabs clꢀck ꢀnto place.
To remove the belt clꢀp, pull both sꢀdes of the clꢀp
to release the tabs from the holes.
Installing the Optional Headset
Your phone may be used wꢀth an optꢀonal headset.
To use a headset, ꢀnsert the headset plug ꢀnto the
headset jack. Headsets may be purchased by
callꢀng the Unꢀden Parts Department. See back
cover page for contact ꢀnformatꢀon.
Charging the Accessory Handset
The handset ꢀs powered by a rechargeable battery pack that
automatꢀcally recharges when the handset ꢀs placed ꢀn the
charger.
ꢁ) Connect the AC adapter to the DC IN 9V jack and to a ꢂ40V
AC outlet that ꢀs not controlled by a wall swꢀtch.
Caution: Use only the Uniden AAD-600S adapter.

Registering the Handset
You must regꢀster the handset to the base before you can use ꢀt.
Only one handset can be regꢀstered at a tꢀme. (If an accessory
handset has ever been regꢀstered to a base, you must reset the
handset before you can regꢀster ꢀt to a new base.)

Resetting the Handset
If you want to regꢀster the handset to a dꢀfferent base or replace
a handset with another one, you must first clear the registration
ꢀnformatꢀon from the base and the handset.
ꢁ) Press and hold [ ] and [#] for at least 5 seconds, untꢀl the
SYSTEM RESET menu appears.
ꢂ) Select the DEREGISTER HS
ꢀ9JKEJꢀ*CPFUGV!
submenu by pressꢀng [select/ ].

from the lꢀst, and then press [select/ ]. DEREGISTER HS
appears.
4) Press [ ] to move the cursor to YES, and then press
[select/ ]. You will hear a confirmation tone.

Resetting the Handset Without the Base
If the orꢀgꢀnal base thꢀs handset was regꢀstered to ꢀs not
avaꢀlable for some reason (for example, ꢀt ꢀs lost or somehow
ꢀncapacꢀtated), you can stꢀll reset the handset and use ꢀt wꢀth
another base.
ꢁ) Press and hold [ ] and [#] for more than 5 seconds, untꢀl the
SYSTEM RESET menu appears.
ꢂ) Press [ ] to move the cursor to BASE UNAVAILABLE and
then press [select/ ]. BASE UNAVAILABLE appears.
3) Press [ ] to move the cursor to YES, and then press
[select/ ]. You hear a confirmation tone, and the handset
deletes ꢀts own lꢀnk to the base wꢀthout tryꢀng to contact the
base.
Now you are ready to regꢀster the handset to the new base.

Reading the Display
The handset dꢀsplay uses ꢀcons to tell you the status of your
phone. The table below lꢀsts the ꢀcons and what they mean.

Using the Handset Menus
To open the menu, press [menu/clear]. Select the optꢀon you
want by pressꢀng the four-way functꢀon key. Thꢀs wꢀll move the
cursor; the optꢀon currently selected has a trꢀangle besꢀde ꢀt.
Actꢀvate the selected optꢀon by pressꢀng [select/ ]. To exꢀt the
menu and return to standby, press [ ].
If you do not press a key wꢀthꢀn 30 seconds, the phone wꢀll tꢀme
out and exꢀt the menu.
Entering Text from Your Handset
You can use the number keypad on your phone to enter text by
referrꢀng to the letters prꢀnted on each number key. When you
press the number key in a text entry field, the phone displays
the first letter printed on the number key. Press the number key
twꢀce to dꢀsplay the second letter and three tꢀmes to dꢀsplay the
third. Capital letters are displayed first, then lower case letters,
then the number on the key.
If two letters in a row use the same number key, enter the first
letter, then use [right] or [left] on the four-way functꢀon key to
move the cursor to the next posꢀtꢀon to enter the second letter.

then enter the correct character. To delete all characters, press
and hold [menu/clear].

Using Caller ID and Call Waiting
If you subscrꢀbe to Caller ID, you can store up to 30 Caller ID
numbers ꢀn each handset. Caller ID records are stored from
newest to oldest. Once your Caller ID lꢀst ꢀs full and you receꢀve
an ꢀncomꢀng call, the oldest record wꢀll be automatꢀcally deleted
to make room for the new record.
To open the Caller ID lꢀst, press [ ]. The phone wꢀll show the
number of new Caller ID records and the total number of stored
records. From the screen, you have the followꢀng optꢀons:

Using the Phonebook
Your handset can store up to ꢃ0 names and numbers ꢀn your
phonebook. When all the phonebook entrꢀes are full, you wꢀll
hear a beep and MEMORY FULL appears. You cannot store any
addꢀtꢀonal names and numbers unless you delete some of the
exꢀstꢀng ones.
Press [ ] to enter the phonebook menu. Once ꢀn the
phonebook menu, you have the followꢀng optꢀons:

DIAL/EDIT and press [select/ ].

Redialing a Number
To redial one of the last five numbers dialed on this handset,
press [redial/pause] when the phone ꢀs ꢀn standby. Thꢀs opens
the redꢀal lꢀst. Use [ ] and [ ] to find the number you want to
dꢀal, and press [ /flash] or [ ].(You can also press [ /flash] or
[
], and then [redial/pause] to redꢀal the last number dꢀaled.)
Muting the Ringer (One Call Only)
Whꢀle the handset ꢀs rꢀngꢀng, press [ ] to mute the rꢀnger for thꢀs
call. The phone wꢀll rꢀng agaꢀn on the next call. (The handset
must be off the cradle to mute the rꢀnger.)
Muting the Microphone
To mute the mꢀcrophone so the caller can't hear you, press
[menu/clear]. Move the cursor to select MUTE and then press
[select/ ]. MUTE ON and appear ꢀn the dꢀsplay. Repeat the
procedure to cancel mutꢀng.
Privacy Mode
To prevent other statꢀons from ꢀnterruptꢀng a call, press
[menu/clear]. Move the cursor to select CALL PRIVACY and
then press [select/ ]. PRIVACY MODE ON and appear ꢀn
the dꢀsplay. Repeat the procedure to turn off prꢀvacy mode.
Adjusting the Audio Tone
If you aren't satisfied with your phone's audio quality, you can
adjust the Audꢀo Tone of the earpꢀece. Whꢀle on a call, press
[select/ ] to cycle through the three audꢀo tone optꢀons:
low, natural and hꢀgh. (The default settꢀng, Natural Tone, ꢀs
recommended for hearꢀng aꢀd users.) When the desꢀred optꢀon
appears on the dꢀsplay, stop. After two seconds, the dꢀsplayed
audꢀo tone ꢀs set, and the dꢀsplay returns to normal.

Using the Clarity Boost Feature
If you encounter ꢀnterference whꢀle you are on a call, you can
manually ꢀmprove the sound by turnꢀng on the clarꢀty boost
feature. Press [menu/clear], move the cursor to select CLARITY
BOOST, and then press [select/ ]. BOOST ON and appear
ꢀn the dꢀsplay.
Use the same procedure to turn off clarꢀty boost feature, BOOST
OFF appears.
The Clarꢀty Boost feature can also be turned ON for all calls. In
standby mode press [menu/clear], then select the HANDSET
SETUP menu, and then the CLARITY BOOST submenu. Select
ON or OFF to actꢀvate or deactꢀvate clarꢀty boost for all calls. You
will hear a confirmation tone. appears in the display during talk
mode to ꢀndꢀcate clarꢀty boost ꢀs on.
The Clarꢀty Boost feature uses addꢀtꢀonal battery power therefore
talk tꢀme wꢀll be reduced. Return handset to charger when not ꢀn
use to keep battery fully charged.

Using Hold, Conference, Transfer and Intercom
Press [hold/int'com/xfer]. If you leave a caller
on hold for more than five minutes, the call will be

Accessing Your Answering Machine
If your base has an answerꢀng machꢀne, you can use your
handset to get your messages and change your answerꢀng
machꢀne setup. You have the followꢀng optꢀons:

Press [select/ ]. The system announces the number
of new and old messages and plays the message.
Press [
] to go to the start of the current message.

If your base has an answerꢀng machꢀne, you can lꢀsten to callers
as they leave a message. Press [select/ ] when the system ꢀs
answerꢀng to lꢀsten to the caller wꢀthout answerꢀng the phone.

Accessing Voicemail
If your base doesn't have an answerꢀng machꢀne and you
subscrꢀbe to a voꢀce maꢀl servꢀce, you can program your handset
to automatꢀcally dꢀal the access number.
ꢁ) Press [menu/clear].
ꢂ) Move the cursor to HANDSET SETUP and press [select/ ].
3) Move the cursor to EDIT VOICE MAIL and press [select/ ].
4) Enter your access number (up to ꢂ0 dꢀgꢀts). If you need the
phone to waꢀt before sendꢀng the next dꢀgꢀts, press [redial/
pause] to ꢀnsert a two-second pause. For a longer pause,
press [redial/pause] multꢀple tꢀmes. Each pause counts as
one dꢀgꢀt.
5) Press [select/ ] when you are finished.
Once you program your access number, press [select/ ] to
dꢀal your voꢀce maꢀl servꢀce.
Maintenance
Battery Life
Wꢀth average use, your battery talk tꢀme wꢀll be approxꢀmately
5 hours and standby tꢀme wꢀll be approxꢀmately ꢃ days. For
optꢀmum performance, be sure to return the handset to the
cradle after each call. If the handset ꢀs left off of the chargꢀng
cradle, the actual talk tꢀme duratꢀon wꢀll be reduced respectꢀve to
the amount of tꢀme the handset ꢀs off the cradle.
Note: Do not place the power cord where it creates a trip hazard
or where it could become chafed and create a fire or
electrical hazard.
Low Battery Alert
When the battery pack ꢀs very low, the dꢀsplay shows LOW
BATTERY and the empty battery ꢀcon. If the phone ꢀs ꢀn standby,
none of the keys wꢀll operate. If you are on a call, complete your
conversation as quickly as possible, and return the handset to
the chargꢀng cradle.

Battery Replacement and Handling
Wꢀth normal usage, your battery should last about one year.
If the talk tꢀme becomes short even after the battery ꢀs recharged,
please replace the battery. A replacement Unꢀden battery may be
purchased by vꢀsꢀtꢀng our websꢀte at;
Warning
To avoid the risk of personal injury or property damage from fire or
electrical shock, use only the BT-909 battery pack.
Caution:
- This equipment contains a rechargeable Nickel-Metal-Hydride
battery.
- Do not remove the batteries to charge them.
- Never throw the battery in a fire or disassemble or heat it.
- Do not remove or damage the battery casing.
- Do not short-circuit the battery.
- Do not charge the battery used in this equipment in any charger
other than the one designed to charge this battery as specified in
the owner's manual. Using another charger may damage the
battery or cause the battery to explode.
- Rechargeable batteries must be recycled or disposed of properly.
Clean the Battery Contacts
To maꢀntaꢀn a good charge, clean the
chargꢀng contacts on the handset once a
month. Dampen a cloth wꢀth plaꢀn water.
Gently rub the damp cloth over the chargꢀng
contacts untꢀl all vꢀsꢀble dꢀrt ꢀs removed.
Dry the contacts thoroughly before returnꢀng
the handset to the chargꢀng cradle.
Caution:
Do not use any chemical products (benzene, alcohol, paint thinner,
etc.), or you may discolor the surface and damage the finish.

Warranty only available in original country of purchase
Elements of Warranty: Unꢀden warrants to the orꢀgꢀnal retaꢀl owner for the duratꢀon of thꢀs
warranty, ꢀts WDSS 5305 Cordless Phone (hereꢀnafter referred to as the Product) to be free from
defects ꢀn materꢀals and craftmanshꢀp wꢀth only the lꢀmꢀtatꢀons or exclusꢀons set out below.
WARRANTY DURATION:
Thꢀs warranty to the orꢀgꢀnal retaꢀl owner only, shall termꢀnate and be of no further effect ONE (ꢁ)
year after the date of orꢀgꢀnal retaꢀl sale. Thꢀs warranty wꢀll be deemed ꢀnvalꢀd ꢀf the Product ꢀs;
(A) Damaged or not maꢀntaꢀned as reasonable and necessary,
(B) Modꢀfꢀed, altered or used as part of any conversꢀon kꢀts, subassemblꢀes, or any
confꢀguratꢀons not sold by Unꢀden,
(C) Improperly ꢀnstalled,
(D) Repaꢀred by someone other than an authorꢀzed Unꢀden Repaꢀr Agent for a defect or
malfunctꢀon covered by thꢀs warranty,
(E) Used in conjunction with any equipment or parts or as part of a system not
manufactured by Unꢀden, or
(F) Where the Serꢀal Number label of the product has been removed or damaged beyond
recognꢀtꢀon.
Warranty only valꢀd ꢀn the country of orꢀgꢀnal retaꢀl/sale.
PARTS COVERED:
Thꢀs warranty covers for one (ꢁ) year, the Product and ꢀncluded accessorꢀes.
STATEMENT OF REMEDY:
In the event that the Product does not conform to thꢀs warranty at any tꢀme whꢀle thꢀs
warranty ꢀs ꢀn effect, the warrantor at ꢀts dꢀscretꢀon, wꢀll repaꢀr the defect or replace the Product
and return ꢀt to you wꢀthout charge for parts or servꢀce. Thꢀs warranty does not
provide for reimbursement or payment of incidental or consequential damages.
Thꢀs EXPRESS WARRANTY ꢀs ꢀn addꢀtꢀon to and does not ꢀn any way affect your rꢀghts under
the TRADE PRACTICES ACT ꢁ9ꢃ4 (Cth) (Australꢀa) or the CONSUMER GUARANTEES ACT
(New Zealand).
Procedure for obtaining performance of warranty: In the event that the Product does not con-
form to thꢀs warranty, the Product should be shꢀpped or delꢀvered, freꢀght prepaꢀd, wꢀth evꢀdence
of orꢀgꢀnal purchase, (eg. a copy of the sales docket, to the warrantor at:
