Quality Compact Audio with USB and iPod Connectivity
When it comes to mini systems, Onkyo has earned a reputation over the years for class-leading quality. That reputation is further
boosted by the CS-535, a system that delivers an audio performance belying its compact size. Much of the credit can go to the
proprietary Onkyo technologies driving the system. At the digital conversion stage,VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry) works to
remove noise from the audio signal. And at the amplification stage,WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology) provides the foundation
for a genuinely musical listening experience. As well as handling most music CD formats, the CS-535 offers superb connectivity options.
A front-panel USB port lets you connect mass storage devices such as flash memory sticks and MP3 players, while the included Onkyo
Dock for the iPod lets you hook up and recharge your iPod.
Amplification Design Built Around the Onkyo Sound
Front Panel USB Interface for Audio Playback from
Mass Storage Devices
Due to their obvious size limitations, mini audio systems present a
range of challenges in terms of amplification design. To overcome these
limitations, Onkyo’s engineers incorporated into the compact CS-535
the same technology that’s used in our renowned full-sized amplifiers
and receivers:Wide Range AmplifierTechnology.WRAT gives the CS-
535 three distinct advantages:A wider frequency response compared
to rival mini audio systems; reduced amplifier distortion at high volume;
and better control of current and electrical/mechanical kick-back from
the speakers. This enables the CS-535 to deliver audio of surprisingly
high quality for such a compact component.
With the CS-535’s front-panel port for a USB mass storage device, you
can access MP3 and WMA files from USB flash drives (e.g. memory
sticks) or from portable audio players that support the USB Mass
Storage Class standard. Once your device is connected, you can use
the CS-535’s remote control to play back the music files in sequence.
The CS-535’s USB port makes it easy to relay digital files from your
computer for playback, or to use your MP3 player as a music source.
iPod PlaybackThrough the RI Dock for the iPod
The Remote Interactive (RI) system enables Onkyo owners to integrate
compatible components for operation via a single remote control. It also
enables you to integrate your iPod with the CS-535 through the included
Onkyo RI Dock for the iPod. Simply connect the dock to the CD
receiver, then place your iPod in the dock for control via the CS-535’s
remote. The RI Dock has been praised for offering a “heftier and more
detailed” sound than can be experienced with an RCA stereo cable.
VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry) and Optimum
GainVolume Circuitry to Maintain Clean Audio Signals
The CS-535 employsVLSC to extract a noise-free analog signal from
digital music sources. This technology works to effectively remove pulse
noise during the digital-to-analog conversion process, thereby
maintaining the purity of the signal. Employed in Onkyo’s A/V receivers
and playback components,VLSC ensures you get the best possible
audio output from CDs and compressed formats such as MP3.
Quality Speakers with Proprietary Onkyo
Performance Features
Under conventional volume attenuation methods that don’t involve
adjusting the gain, the audio signal drops close to the noise floor at low
volumes. This taints the signal with noise that becomes noticeable as
the signal is amplified. To prevent such noise from adversely affecting
the audio signal, the CS-535 employs Onkyo’s Optimum GainVolume
Circuitry. This circuitry performs continual gain adjustments that reduce
attenuation by 50%, so the signal never comes close to the noise floor.
Designed to match the CR-535 CD receiver, the accompanying D-035
two-way, bass-reflex speakers incorporate a number of Onkyo speaker
developments. The woofer cones, for example, are made from a pure
cotton weave we call OMF (Onkyo Micro Fiber). This material
effectively absorbs unwanted vibrations while providing the requisite
diaphragm stiffness to enable a fast and accurate response.
Furthermore, each speaker features a balanced-dome tweeter to
deliver high-frequency sounds with greater finesse.
