deflect and tear through the surface of
the workpiece, puncturing your hand
or fingers.
4. never connect the stapler

other combustible gases as
a poWer source. only use fil-
tered, lubricated, and regulated com-

compressed air system
firing mechanism
the Model h5977 is designed to be oper-
ated at 60-100 psi. the maximum permis-
sible operating pressure for this stapler is
100 psi. do not exceed 120 psi!
When the firing mechanism is working
properly, the stapler does not fire when
immediately connected to the air supply.
this stapler is equipped with a “whack
cap," which when hit with the mallet will
fire the stapler.
Before using, install a male quick connect
fitting on the stapler. regulate the air pres-
sure on your air compressor to 80 psi.
Before you load your stapler for the first
time, check the firing mechanism to ensure
safe use.
this stapler will benefit from an in-line fil-
ter/lubricator/regulator unit. using this unit
protects your tool from damaging water
build-up, allows you to adjust and maintain
constant air pressure to your tool, and
automatically lubricates your tool every
time you use it. Check the current grizzly
catalog for availability of this unit. if you
plan on installing a filter/lubricator/regula-
tor unit in your compressed air system,
always follow the connection instructions
that come with the unit.
to check the firing mechanism:
1. make sure the stapler is discon-
nected from the air supply!
2. Make sure the magazine is empty and
contains no staples.
3. Connect the stapler to the air supply.
the stapler should not fire.
— if it does not fire, read step 4.
— if the stapler does fire, immediate-
ly disconnect the stapler from the
air supply and call (570) 546-9663
for technical support.
4. place the base of the stapler on a
scrap piece of wood that is clean and
free of any knots, staples, or other
foreign objects.
5. hit the whack cap with the mallet
using moderate force. the stapler
should fire.
— if it does fire, then the firing
mechanism is working properly.
Continue to the next section.
— if the does not fire, then the firing
mechanism may not be working
correctly or may need service.
please call (570) 546-9663 for
technical support.
exceeding the maximum permissible
operating pressure may cause the
stapler to explode, blowing metal frag-
ments in all directions. to protect
yourself from serious personal injury,
do not allow your air compressor to
exceed the recommended pressure
when connected to this stapler!
NOTICE
continually firing the stapler when
empty will cause internal damage. only
fire the empty stapler once or twice to
ensure it is functioning properly.

operation
oiling stapler
loading stapler
place one or two drops of pneumatic tool oil
in the stapler air inlet (as shown in figure
1) before every use. Wipe off any excess
oil near the stapler exhaust to avoid dust
build-up.
When replacing staples in your model
h5977, follow these guidelines:
gauge: 151⁄2
staple sizes: 1"–2"
Capacity: 60
to load your stapler:
1. disconnect the air supply from the
stapler!
2. slide back the magazine loading han-
dle until it locks.
3. load a staple stick in the t-slot at
the top of the magazine as shown in
figure 2.
4. release the magazine loading handle
by pulling it back, then letting go.
figure 1. lubricating stapler via air inlet.
another option to manual oiling would be
to install a lubricator in your air compressor
line. if your air compressor line already has
a lubricator, then regular lubrication of your
stapler will not be necessary. Just make
sure there is always pneumatic tool oil in
the lubricator.
as mentioned before, the best option is to
install a filter/lubricator/regulator unit such
as those found in the grizzly catalog.

4. using the included mallet, hit the
whack cap with light/medium force to
shoot a staple into the wood.
5. Check the staple for proper depth and
placement.
operating stapler
if you have not read the safety instruc-
tions in this manual, do not operate
the stapler.
— if the depth is satisfactory, then
proceed with your project.
— if the depth is too shallow, then
slightly increase the air pressure
and repeat steps 3–5.
Before you operate your stapler, place one
drop of pneumatic tool oil into the quick
connect fitting where the stapler connects
to the air supply.
— if the depth is too deep, then
slightly decrease the air pressure
and repeat steps 3–5.
the Model h5977 comes with two base
plates of different thicknesses. the thin-
nest base plate is for use with ⁄4" flooring,
3
and the thickest base plate is for use with
1
⁄
2" flooring.
to operate your stapler:
1. install the correct base plate for your
size of flooring material.
2. Connect the air supply to the quick
connect fitting.
3. place the stapler on the pre-posi-
tioned flooring as shown in figure 3,
making sure the cleat on the bottom of
the stapler is lined up with the edge of
the groove in the flooring.

clearing Jammed staples
cleaning stapler
this stapler may accidentally fire if
you work on it without disconnecting
it from the air supply. always discon-
nect air from stapler whenever clear-
ing a jammed staple!
vapors from cleaning with gasoline
or flammable liquids could ignite and
cause an explosion. never use highly
flammable liquids to clean the stapler
and thoroughly dry all cleaned parts
before reassembling or operating.
to clear a jammed staple from the dis-
charge area on the model h5977:
use a good solvent to clean the nose
assembly of the stapler. always be sure
that the stapler is dry before using it
again.
1. disconnect the stapler from the air
supply!
2. pull the magazine loader all the way
back and remove the staple stick.
3. the jammed staple should now be
visible; remove it from the discharge
area with needle nose pliers.
do not allow dust, chips, sand, etc. into the
air connectors or into the body of the sta-
pler; this may result in leaks and damage
to the stapler and the air couplings.
