Before Operating This Equipment
The purpose of safety symbols is to attract your attention to possible hazardous
conditions. This manual uses a series of symbols and signal words which are
intended to convey the level of importance of the safety messages. The progres-
sion of symbols is described below. Remember that safety messages by them-
selves do not eliminate danger and are not a substitute for proper accident pre-
vention measures.
Indicates an imminently hazardous situation which, if
not avoided, WILL result in death or serious injury.
Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if
not avoided, COULD result in death or serious injury.
Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if
not avoided, MAY result in minor or moderate injury.
It may also be used to alert against unsafe practices.
This symbol is used to alert the user to useful information
about proper operation of the equipment.

Palm Hammer Safety
In addition to the rules stated in the previ-
ous section, and those in the warning
boxes throughout this manual, please
observe the following safety tips for your
pneumatic palm hammer:
1. READ THIS ENTIRE MANUAL
BEFORE OPERATING THE PALM
HAMMER.
2. ALWAYS DISCONNECT AIR FROM
THE PALM HAMMER whenever
changing tools or it may actuate acci-
dentally and cause personal injury.
3. DO NOT SUPPORT WORKPIECE
NEAR NAIL POINT OF ENTRY. Nail
can deflect and be driven through the
surface of the workpiece, puncturing
your hand or fingers.
4. NEVER CONNECT THE PALM
HAMMER TO PRESSURIZED OXY-
GEN OR OTHER COMBUSTIBLE
GASES as a power source. Only use
filtered, lubricated, and regulated
compressed air.
Operating this palm hammer can pro-
pel objects into the air, causing
immediate eye damage. To protect
yourself, always wear American
National Standards Institute (ANSI)
approved safety glasses or goggles.
To protect your hearing, always wear
ANSI approved ear protection when
operating this palm hammer.
5. ALWAYS
KEEP
ANY
BYSTANDERS BEHIND PALM
HAMMER OR AWAY FROM AREA
DURING USE. Palm hammer may hit
a nail at an awkward angle, which
could cause it to become a dangerous
projectile.
6. DO NOT CARRY THE PALM HAM-
MER BY THE AIR HOSE.
7. DO NOT ACTUATE THE PALM
HAMMER ON ANY PART OF YOUR
BODY or on any bystanders. The
hammering action can quickly cause
an injury.
Always disconnect air from palm air
hammer whenever cleaning! If con-
nected to air, hammer may actuate
accidentally, causing serious person-
al injury!

OPERATION
Connecting to Air System
Basic Operation
The Model H3142 is designed to be oper-
ated at 80-120 psi. DO NOT exceed the
maximum operating pressure!
The Model H3142 does not have an actua-
tion trigger; instead, this unit actuates
when one of the installed tools is
depressed against the workpiece. There is
no safety mechanism so disconnect the
palm hammer when not in use or when
changing tools!
To connect the Model H3142 to an air
compressor:
Specific operating instructions for each tool
will be described later in this manual.
1. Regulate the air pressure on the air
compressor to barely over the minimum
80 PSI required to operate the palm
hammer. Increase air pressure only if
needed.
Changing Tools
2. Attach your air compressor hose to the
coupling on the palm hammer.
NOTE: Many pneumatic tools benefit from
an in-line filter/lubricator/regulator unit.
This attachment is connected by hoses
between the air compressor and the palm
hammer. Using this unit protects your tool
from damaging water build-up, allows you
to adjust and maintain constant air pres-
sure to your tool, and saves you the incon-
venience of having to manually lubricate
your tool every time you use it. Check the
current Grizzly catalog for availability of
this unit. If you plan on installing a
filter/lubricator/regulator unit in your com-
pressed air system, always follow the con-
nection instructions that come with the unit.
Serious personal injury could occur if
palm hammer is connected to air
compressor when changing tools.
To change tools:
1. Disconnect the palm hammer from
the air compressor.
Exceeding the maximum permissible
operating pressure may cause the
palm hammer to explode, blowing
metal fragments in all directions. To
protect yourself from serious person-
al injury, DO NOT allow your air com-
pressor to exceed the recommended
pressure when connected to this tool!
2. Unscrew the current attachment from
the face of the palm hammer.
3. Make sure there is a spring inside the
threaded portion of the tool before
installing. The longest and narrowest
spring is for the chisel tool only.
4. Screw the desired tool into the face of
the palm hammer.

of the small straps on the side, depend-
ing on which hand you prefer to use.
Figure 4. Driver adapter.
To use a nail driver:
1. With the air NOT connected to the palm
hammer, install the desired nail driver
tool as per the “Changing Tools”
instructions on page 5 of this manual,
then connect the palm hammer to the
air compressor.
Nail Drivers
The Model H3142 Pneumatic Palm
Hammer Kit includes 2 regular nail drivers
(Figure 2) and 2 finish nail drivers (Figure
3). Three of the nail drivers have a small
magnet at the end to keep nails aligned.
2. Position the nail where you want to
drive it.
3. Place the nail driver over the nail and
start the nail with a light bump or tap of
the palm hammer. This action should
only make the hammer actuate once.
4. Making sure the nail is started deep
enough to keep its position, firmly press
the palm hammer into the nail and hold
it until the nail is completely driven into
the surface.

Oiling Palm Hammer
Cleaning Palm Hammer
Regular applications of oil will extend the
useful life of the piston assembly.
Special oil has been included with your
new Grizzly Palm Hammer. Before each
use, and regularly during prolonged appli-
cations, place one drop of oil in the palm
hammer air inlet as illustrated in Figure 6.
After oiling, wipe off any excess oil near
the exhaust to avoid dust build-up. When
the oil that was included with the palm
hammer has been completely used,
replace it with Grizzly Model G2820
Pneumatic Tool Oil.
Always disconnect air from palm air
hammer whenever cleaning! If con-
nected to air, hammer may actuate
accidentally, causing serious person-
al injury!
Another option to manual oiling would be
to install a lubricator in your air compressor
line. If your air compressor line already has
a lubricator, then regular lubrication of your
palm hammer will not be necessary. Just
make sure there is always oil in the lubri-
cator.
Do not allow dust, chips, sand, etc. into the
air connectors or into the body of the palm
hammer; this may result in leaks and dam-
age to the palm hammer and the air fit-
tings.
As mentioned before, the best option is to
install a filter/lubricator/regulator unit such
as the Grizzly Model H2333 in your air line.
Use a good solvent to clean the palm ham-
mer tools. Always be sure that the tools
are dry before using them again.
Figure 6. Lubricating palm hammer
via air inlet.
NOTICE
Too much oil in the hammer will ruin
the O-rings!
