Introduction
Your new GMC power tool will more than satisfy your
expectations. It has been manufactured under stringent
GMC Quality Standards to meet superior performance
criteria.
General safety rules
WARNING. When using power tools, basic safety precautions
should always be taken to reduce the risk of fire, electric
shock and personal injury. Also, please read and heed the
advice given in the additional important safety instructions.
You will find your new tool easy and safe to operate, and,
with proper care, it will give you many years of dependable
service.
1. Keep the work area clean and tidy. Cluttered work areas

special care to heed the Cautions and Warnings.

your job faster and easier. Safety performance and depend-
ability have been given top priority to the development of
this tool, making it easy to maintain and operate.

2. Consider the environment in which you are working. Do
not use power tools in damp or wet locations. Keep the
work area well lit. Do not expose power tools to rain. Do
not use power tools in the presence of flammable liquids or
gases.
3. Keep visitors away from the work area. All visitors and
onlookers, especially children, should be kept well away
from where you are working. Do not let others in the
vicinity make contact with the tool or extension cord.
Environmental protection
Recycle unwanted materials instead of
disposing of them as waste. All tools, hoses
and packaging should be sorted, taken to the
local recycling center and disposed of in an
environmentally safe way.
4. Store tools safely. When not in use, tools should be locked
up out of the reach of children.
5. Do not force the tool. The tool will do the job better and
safer working at the rate for which it was designed.
6. Use the correct tool for the job. Do not force small tools
or attachments to do the job best handled by a heavier
duty tool. Never use a tool for a purpose for which it was
not intended.
7. Dress correctly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. They
can be caught in moving parts. Rubber gloves and non-slip
footwear are recommended when working outdoors. If you
have long hair, wear a protective hair covering.

8. Use safety accessories. Safety glasses and earmuffs
should always be worn. A face or dust mask is required if
the cutting operation creates dust.

Defective switches must be replaced by an authorised
service facility. Do not use a tool if the switch does not
turn the tool on and off correctly.
9. Do not abuse the power cord. Never pull the cord to
disconnect the tool from the power point. Keep the cord
away from heat, oil and sharp edges.
19. Guard against electric shock. Prevent body contact with
grounded objects such as water pipes, radiators, ranges
and refrigerator enclosures.
10. Secure the workpiece. Use clamps or a vice to hold the
workpiece. It is safer than using your hand and frees
both hands to operate the tool.
20. Use only approved parts. When servicing, use only
identical replacement parts. Use an authorised service
facility to fit replacement parts.
11. Do not overreach. Keep your footing secure and
balanced at all times.
12. Look after your tools. Keep tools sharp and clean for
better and safer performance. Follow the instructions
regarding lubrication and accessory changes. Inspect tool
cords periodically and, if damaged, have them repaired
by an authorised service facility. Inspect extension cords
periodically and replace them if damaged. Keep tool
handles dry, clean and free from oil and grease.
21. Warning. The use of any accessory or attachment other
than those recommended in this instruction manual,
may present a risk of personal injury.
22. Have your tool repaired by a qualified person. This
electric tool is in accordance with the relevant safety
requirements. Repair should only be carried out by
qualified persons using original spare parts, otherwise
this may result in considerable danger to the user.
13. Disconnect idle tools. Switch off the power and
disconnect the plug from the power point before
servicing, when changing accessories such as blades, bits
and cutters, and when the tool is not in use.
23. Special safety hints.
• Your cordless drill is not charged when purchased. Be sure
to charge the unit for fully approximately 5–7 hours prior
to initial use.
14. Remove adjusting keys and wrenches. Get into the
habit of always checking to see that keys and adjusting
wrenches are removed from the tool before switching on.
• A battery stored used or charged under high temperature
conditions will deteriorate more quickly.
15. Avoid unintentional starting. Always check that the
switch is in the OFF position before plugging in the tool
to the power supply.
• Don’t overcharge the battery.
• Once your battery is fully charged, disconnect the charger
from the power and store safely in the drill.
16. Use outdoor rated extension cords. When a tool is used
outdoors, use only extension cords that are intended for
outdoor use and are so marked.
• Never store the battery out of the drill, as the two contacts
on the drill are exposed and could be shorted by a metal
object and cause a fire or explosion!
17. Stay alert. Watch what you are doing. Use common
sense. Do not operate a power tool when you are tired.
• Before drilling check that there are no hidden hazards such
as electric cables, water or gas pipes running below the
surface-use a metal/voltage detector.
18. Check for damaged parts. Before using a tool, check
that there are no damaged parts. If a part, such as a
guard is damaged, carefully determine if it will operate
properly and perform its intended function. Check for
alignment of moving parts, binding of moving parts,
breakage of parts, proper mounting and any other
conditions that may affect the operation of the tool. A

Know your product
Unpacking
This drill is mainly used for drilling in wood or metal sheet
and screwdriving. Use machine only for intended applications.
All other applications are expressly ruled out.
Due to modern mass production techniques, it is unlikely that
your GMC Power Tool is faulty or that a part is missing. If you
find anything wrong, do not operate the tool until the parts
have been replaced or the fault has been rectified. Failure to
do so could result in serious personal injury.

Battery charging
Chuck replacement
Connect the adaptor plug to the socket in the rear of the
battery (6). Plug the adaptor (7) into a 230–240V mains
power point and switch on. The red LED light near the
rear of the battery will show that charging is taking place.
The chucks of reversible drills are always fixed by a screw
with a left-hand thread. The screw, which is located in the
centre of the chuck, must be loosened before the chuck
can be removed. To loosen the screw, turn it in a
clockwise direction. The chuck can now be removed by
unscrewing it anti-clockwise. If you have trouble removing
the chuck take the drill to your nearest authorised service
centre for chuck replacement.
The normal battery charge time is between 3–5 hours, but
an indication as to the battery being fully charged is
when the case of the battery starts to warm up. Once this
occurs, switch off the adaptor at the 230–240V mains
power point and remove the adaptor plug from the rear of
the battery. Your drill/driver is ready for use!
To keep the best life of the battery, let the battery start to
loose its power before charging, but do not let the drill
come to a standstill before charging. Do not do short
charges but make sure that the battery is fully charged
every time it is in need of charging.
Forward/Reverse switch (3)
This switch will allow you to change the direction of the
motor.
Drilling uses the forward mode. The reverse mode is
intended for the removal of screws.
Adjustable Torque
This drill is equipped with torque settings which are
controlled by the torque collar (2). By rotating the collar
behind the chuck, it is possible to adjust the torque.
This will allow better control when using the drill as a
screwdriver (prevents over-tightening of the screws).
Warning. Never store the battery out of the drill/driver as
the two contacts on top of the battery are exposed and
could be shorted by a metal object and cause a fire or
explosion!
Caution. Never use the drill while charging is in progress!
Using the drill
Drilling metals
Use the forward/reverse switch to select the direction of
rotation, then pull the trigger (4) on. This trigger switch
is electronic variable speed which enables the user to vary
the speed continuously. The speed varies according to how
far the trigger switch is depressed, the further it is
depressed the faster the chuck will rotate and the lighter
it is depressed, the slower it will rotate.
• Always clamp sheet metal.
• Support thin metal with a block of wood to avoid
distorting it.
• Use a punch to mark the centre of the hole.
• Use a suitable lubricant for the material you are
working on:

Note. The drill will not work if the forward/reverse switch
is in the middle of the two position. This is a safety
feature and whenever leaving the drill it is wise to place
the switch in the centre to stop inadvertent switching on.

• This drill is not designed for drilling masonry. Purchase
or hire a Hammer drill.
Drilling wood
• Clamp a piece of scrap wood to the back of your work
to prevent splintering.
All Drilling Operations
• Mark off the centre of the hole using a centre punch or
nail.
Care
• Don’t force the drill, let it work at its own pace
• Keep the drill bit sharp.
• Reduce pressure, as the drill is about to break through
the item being drilled.
Maintenence
• Store the machine, instruction manual and where
necessary the accessories in the original packaging. In
this way you will always have all the information and
parts ready to hand.
• Don’t throw used batteries into fire or water-danger of
explosion! Please hand in non-working or used batteries,
or tools with built-in batteries, to the environmentally-
safe disposal unit at a municipal waste-disposal centre,
or to your dealer.
