MODULAR JACK REQUIREMENTS  
You need an RJ 11 type m odular jack, which is the m ost  
com m on type of phone jack and m ight look like the one  
pictured here. If you dont have a m odular jack, call your local  
phone com pany to find out how to get one installed.

POWERING THE CALLER ID UNIT  
The unit can operate on batteries only, but you m ust  
use the AC power supply in order for the new call  
indicator light and the display backlighting to work.

INSTALLING THE BATTERIES  
Install 4 AAA-size batteries to retain caller ID inform a-  
tion in the event of a power failure.  
Disconnect the line cords from the back of the unit  
and wait a few seconds for the unit to go into  
standby.

1. Open the battery com partm ent door by pressing  
on the door and sliding it in the direction of the  
arrow.  
2. Insert 4 AAA-size batteries as shown on the  
diagram in the battery com partm ent.  
3. Replace the battery com partm ent door securely.

BATTERY INDICATOR  
If the battery icon appears in the display, you need to  
replace the batteries.  
USING THE AC ADAPTER  
NOTE: Only use the  
Thomson 5-2408 AC  
adapter that came with  
this unit. Using other  
adapters may damage  
the unit.  
You m ust use the AC power supply in order for the  
new call indicator light and the display backlight to  
work. When using AC power, the batteries serve as a  
backup in the event of power failure.

INSTALLATION  
You can set the unit on a tabletop or m ount it on the wall.  
IMPORTANT INSTALLATION INFORMATION  
Never install telephone wiring during a lightning  
storm .  
Never touch uninsulated telephone wires or  
term inals, unless the telephone line has been  
disconnected at the network interface.  
Use caution when installing or m odifying tele-  
phone lines.

TABLETOP INSTALLATION  
1. Connect the telephone line cord to the jack on the  
back of the unit m arked TO LINE, and to the  
m odular wall jack.  
2. Connect your phones line cord to the jack on the  
back of the unit m arked TO PHONE.  
3. Insert the AC adapter into the jack m arked 9 V DC  
into the back of the unit and to an AC power  
outlet.  
If you want the unit to sit up at an angle instead of  
laying flat, attach the m ounting bracket to the back of  
the unit before connecting the cords.  
NOTE: Only use the Thomson 5-2408 AC adapter  
that came with this unit. Using other adapters may  
damage the unit.

WALL MOUNT INSTALLATION  
Use the m ounting accessories included with this unit.

1. Hold the m ounting bracket against the wall and  
m ark the m ounting screw positions on the wall  
with a pencil.  
2. Insert the anchor screws and install the m ounting  
bracket on the wall.  
3. Connect the telephone line cord to the jack on the  
back of the unit m arked TO LINE, and to the  
m odular wall jack.  
4. Connect your phones line cord to the jack on the  
back of the unit m arked TO PHONE.

5. Insert the AC adapter into the jack m arked 9 V DC  
into the back of the unit and to an AC power  
outlet.

ANSWERING MACHINE INSTALLATION  
The answering m achine m ust be set to answer  
calls after at least 2 rings to properly receive caller  
ID inform ation. To use your caller ID unit with an  
answering m achine:  
1. Plug a telephone line cord into the m odular  
jack and into the jack on the back of the unit  
m arked TO LINE.  
2. Plug another telephone line cord into the jack  
on the back of the unit m arked TO PHONE and  
into the answering m achine.  
3. Plug a third telephone line cord into the  
answering m achine and into the phone.  
4. Insert the AC adapter into the jack m arked 9 V  
DC into the back of the unit and to an AC  
power outlet.

TWO-LINE SYSTEM INSTALLATION  
You m ust use two caller ID units if you  
want to use caller ID for both lines. You  
m ust also purchase a triplex adapter.  
1. Plug the triplex adapter into your two-  
line m odular wall jack.  
2. Plug your two-line phone into the  
two-line receptacle on the triplex  
adapter.  
3. Plug each caller ID unit into a single-  
line receptacle on the triplex adapter.  
4. Connect the AC power supply for  
each unit.

OPERATION  
CHOOSING A LANGUAGE  
Your caller ID unit is program m ed at the factory to display m essages in English, but you  
can change the language setting to French or Spanish. To change the language:  
1. Press and hold DISPLAY until the current language (ENGLISH, ESPANOL for  
Spanish, or FRANCAIS for French) appears in the display.  
2. Press the REVIEW  
buttons until the language you want appears in the display.  
3. When you release the REVIEW button the new language is set.  
NOTE: If you don't press any buttons within 10 seconds the unit will go to TIME CALENDAR.  
TIME AND DATE SETTINGS  
The tim e and date are autom atically set when your caller ID unit receives its first call.  
This inform ation is sent by the phone com pany.

RECEIVING AND STORING CALLS  
New call indicator  
The display autom atically lights when there is a new call  
and whenever you press any of the buttons on the unit.  
This unit receives and displays inform ation transm itted  
by your local phone com pany. This inform ation can  
include the phone num ber, date, and tim e; or the nam e,  
phone num ber, date, and tim e. The new call indicator  
flashes when there are new calls for you to review.

TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS  
NO DIAL TONE ON THE PHONE ATTACHED TO THE CALLER ID UNIT  
Check all cabling to m ake sure that all connections are secure.  
Check installation (p. 3-8)  
Disconnect the caller ID unit and reconnect phone to find out if the phone works  
without the caller ID unit.  
NO DISPLAY  
Replace batteries.  
Did you order caller ID service from your local telephone com pany? This unit  
requires that you subscribe to caller ID service in order for it to work.  
ERROR MESSAGE IS DISPLAYED  
SERVICE ERROR appears in the display if the unit detects anything other than valid  
caller ID inform ation during the silent period after the first ring. This m essage  
indicates that there is noise on the line or that the telephone com pany has sent an  
invalid m essage.

To keep your Caller ID working and looking good, follow these guidelines:  
Avoid putting it near heating appliances and devices that generate electrical noise (for  
example, motors or fluorescent lamps).  
DO NOT expose to direct sunlight or moisture.  
Avoid dropping unit and/or other rough treatment.  
Clean with a soft cloth.  
Never use a strong cleaning agent or abrasive powder because this will damage the finish.  
Retain the original packaging in case you need to ship it at a later date.
