Telephone Jack Requirements
To use this phone, you need an RJ11C type modular telephone
jack, which might look like the one pictured here, installed in your
home. If you don’t have a modular jack, call your local phone
company to find out how to get one installed.

Installing the Phone
Desktop Installation
CAUTION: To reduce risk of personal injury, fire, or damage
use only the 5-2768 (white), 5-2644 (black), or 5-2779 (black)
power adaptor listed in the user’s guide. This power adaptor is
intended to be correctly orientated in a vertical or floor mount
position.
1. Plug the coiled cord into the handset. Plug the other end into the jack on the side of
the base.

2. Place the handset in the base.
3. Plug the telephone line cord into the LINE jack on the back of the phone. Plug the
other end into a wall jack.
4. Connect the small end of the power adaptor into the POWER 7.5V AC jack on
the back of the answerer. Plug the other end into an AC power outlet. The unit
beeps once and is ready for setup or to answer calls with the default greeting and
settings.

NOTE: The phone automatically defaults to touch-tone dialing. To
change to pulse (rotary) dialing, see “Setting the Dialing Mode.”
If you don’t know which type of service you have, check with the
phone company.
NOTE: The unit is properly installed if you pick up the handset and
hear the dial tone. Otherwise, recheck all the installation steps.
Wall Mounting the Phone
1. Carefully turn the handset hook 180° with a coin or screwdriver until it points
upward. You need to do this so that the handset doesn’t fall out of the base.
2. Plug the coiled cord into the handset. Plug the other end into the jack on the side
of the base.
3. Place the handset in the base.

4. Carefully turn the phone over. Detach the
mounting bracket from the two sets of top
grooves by pressing the tabs in. Pull the bracket
from the phone and turn it around so that it
looks like the diagram. Gently press the bracket
into the two sets of bottom grooves until it snaps
into place.
5. Plug the line cord into the jack on the back of the
base. Wrap the extra line cord, if any, around the
hooks provided on the bottom of the unit.
6. Feed the short line cord through the grooves
provided so that the bottom of the phone is flat and ready to mount on the wall.
7. Connect the other end of the line cord into the wall phone jack.
8. Connect the small end of the power adaptor into the POWER 7.5V AC jack on the
back of the answerer. Plug the other end into an AC power outlet. The unit beeps
once and is ready for setup or to answer calls with the default greeting and settings.
9. Slip the mounting holes of the base (on bottom of unit) over the wall plate posts
and slide the base down until the phone is firmly in place.
Important Instructions for Moving the Answerer:
To move the answerer to a different location in the house, follow these instructions:
1. Disconnect the phone line.
2. Go to the electrical outlet and unplug the power adaptor.
3. Move the unit and phone line to the desired location.
4. Plug in the power adaptor into an electrical outlet.
5. The display shows that the messages have not been erased.
6. Connect the phone line.
7. Reset the time/date settings or wait for the next call to set them automatically.

Answering System Set Up
Recording the Greeting
Before using your new answerer, you should record a greeting (the announcement
callers hear when your answering system answers a call). If you don’t record a
greeting, callers hear a default greeting which says, “We are not available to take
your call. Please leave a message. Thank you for calling.”
When recording the greeting you should be about 6 inches from the unit. Eliminate as
much background noise as possible.
1. Prepare your greeting.
Sample Greeting: “Hi, this is (use your name here). I can’t answer the phone right
now, so please leave your name, number, and a brief message after the tone, and
I’ll get back to you. Thanks for calling.”
2. Hold down the GREETING button. The unit announces “Record your greeting after
the tone,” and displays GREETING RECORD. After the tone, you have 30 seconds to
record your greeting.
3. Release GREETING when you finish.
• To review the greeting, press and release GREETING. The unit plays back your
greeting automatically.
• To return to the answerer’s default greeting after you’ve recorded one, press
GREETING and release it when you hear the tone, or press and hold DELETE when
the greeting is playing.

Rings to Answer
Remote Access
Selects the number of rings before the unit answers.
Sets your 3-digit code used for remote access to the unit.
TONE/PULSE Dialing Sets the phone for tone or pulse dialing.
Regional Area Codes Sets your regional area codes if you have multiple area codes
where you live.
During the course of setting up the phone, you can press the DELETE button to scroll
back to the previous Setup menu.
Setting the Display Contrast
This setting allows you to adjust the display contrast for easier readability.
1. Press and release the MENU button until SET CONTRAST is displayed. The unit
announces, “Setup menu. To change setting, use NEXT or REVIEW. To save a
setting, press ENTER.”
2. Use NEXT or REVIEW to select the desired setting or press the keypad number for
the setting (1-5).
3. When finished, press ENTER to confirm. The unit beeps.
NOTE: To skip to the next setting, press MENU. To exit setup, press EXIT.
Setting the Time and Date
NOTE: If you have subscribed to the Caller ID display feature from
your telephone company, the telephone company sends the time
and date with the Caller ID information. The unit automatically sets
the time and date when the first call is received.

1. If you just adjusted the Display Contrast menu, skip to step 2. If you haven’t
adjusted any other setting, press and release the MENU button until SET TIME/
DATE is displayed.
2. Use NEXT or REVIEW to set the hour.
3. When finished, press ENTER to confirm. Now you’re ready to enter the minutes.

TIP: You can use the keypad to enter all the digits in one step. To
enter 317, press 3,1, and 7. Then press ENTER.
Setting the Incoming Message Length
This setting allows you to set the maximum length of time allowed for a single
incoming message. You can choose from 1-4 minutes.
1. If you just adjusted the Local Area Code menu, skip to step 2. If you haven’t
adjusted any other setting, press and release the MENU button until MESSAGE
LENGTH is displayed.
2. Use NEXT or REVIEW or press the keypad number (1-4) for the desired setting.
3. When finished, press ENTER to confirm. The unit beeps.
NOTE: To skip to the next setting, press MENU. To exit setup, press EXIT.
Setting the Rings to Answer
This setting allows you to set the number of rings before the unit answers a call. You
can choose from 2-8 or Toll Saver (see “Toll Saver.”)
1. If you just adjusted the Message Length menu, skip to step 2. If you haven’t
adjusted any other setting, press and release the MENU button until SET RINGS TO
ANS is displayed.
2. Use NEXT or REVIEW or press the keypad number (2-8, Toll Saver) for the desired
setting.
3. When finished, press ENTER to confirm. The unit beeps.

Toll Saver
Toll Saver can save you the cost of a call when you access your messages from
another phone:
• If you have new messages, the unit answers after the 2nd ring.
• If you have no new messages, the unit answers after the 5th ring.
You can hang up after the 3rd ring and save the pay telephone or long distance charge.
Setting the Security Code
This feature allows you to change the factory default remote access code used for
remote access to you answerer. The default code is 123.
1. If you just adjusted the Rings to Answer menu, skip to step 2. If you haven’t
adjusted any other setting, press and release the MENU button until REMOTE
ACCESS is displayed.
2. Use NEXT or REVIEW to select the first digit.
3. Once the first digit is set, press ENTER. The unit beeps to confirm.
4. Repeat steps 2-3 until all the digits of the security code are set.
NOTE: To skip to the next setting, press MENU. To exit setup, press EXIT.
TIP: You can use the keypad to enter all the digits in one step. To
enter 456, press 4, 5, and 6. Then press ENTER.
Setting the Dialing Mode
This adjustment allows you to select tone (touch-tone) or pulse (rotary) mode dialing.
The phone is automatically set for touch-tone use.
1. If you just adjusted the Remote Access menu, skip to step 2. If you haven’t adjusted
any other setting, press and release the MENU button until DIALING is displayed.
2. Use NEXT or REVIEW or press the keypad number for the desired setting (1 for
pulse, 2 for tone).

3. When finished, press ENTER to confirm. The unit beeps.
NOTE: To skip to the next setting, press MENU. To exit setup, press EXIT.
Setting the Regional Area Codes
Depending on your area, you may need to set regional area codes. These are needed
in order for the phone to determine the number format to be displayed when a valid
Caller ID signal is received. Calls received that match any of the regional area codes
are displayed as 10 digits. If the number is not displayed correctly, the phone may not
be able to dial back the number properly. You can store up to 6 regional area codes.
You may need to use this feature if you have:
• Multiple area codes
• Overlapping area codes
• Areas that require 10-digit dialing.
1. If you just adjusted the Dialing menu, skip to step 2. If you haven’t adjusted any
other setting, press and release the MENU button until REGIONAL AC# is displayed.
The first digit of code #1 flashes.
2. Use NEXT or REVIEW to set the first digit.
3. Press ENTER. The next digit flashes.
4. Repeat steps 2-3 until all the digits of the regional area code are set.
5. When finished, press ENTER to confirm. The unit beeps.
NOTE: If you don’t want to enter any more area codes, press MENU.
To exit setup, press EXIT.
NOTE: You can use MENU at any time to scroll through the settings.
Also, if you don’t make a selection within 30 seconds, the unit
automatically exits the setup menu.
TIP: You can use the keypad to enter all the digits in one step. To
enter 891, press 8,9, and 1. Then press ENTER.

Message Volume
Use the VOLUME and v buttons to adjust the volume when playing back messages
^
and while reviewing or changing the setting.
Ringer Volume
Use the VOLUME pt and v buttons to adjust the loudness of the ringer when the
^
handset is not in use. The phone gives a sample ring when adjusting.
Handset Volume
Use the VOLUME pt and v buttons to adjust the handset listening volume while it is in
^
use.
Speakerphone Volume
Use the VOLUME and v buttons to adjust the speakerphone listening volume while
^
it is in use.

Using the Speakerphone
Speakerphone Location
For best speakerphone performance, avoid the following:
• Areas with high background noise. (The microphone might pick up these sounds
and prevent the speakerphone from going into the receiving mode when you finish
talking.)
• Surfaces affected by vibration.
• Recessed areas such as in a corner, under a cupboard, or next to a cabinet, which
can generate an echo effect.
Speakerphone Use
Note the following guidelines when using the speakerphone:
• The speakerphone works similar to a two-way radio in that you can only listen or
talk at one time.

• Stay reasonably close to the phone so that you can be clearly heard by the person
to whom you are talking.
• You can adjust the speaker volume by pressing the VOLUME and v buttons.

• The speakerphone indicator comes on when the speakerphone is in use.
Receiving a Phone Call
1. When the phone rings, the speakerphone indicator blinks and the caller’s
information, if any, will be shown on the display panel. Lift the handset or press the
SPEAKER button to connect your phone call.
2. You can adjust the volume of the caller’s voice by pressing the VOLUME and v
^
buttons.
Placing a Phone Call
1. Lift the handset or press the SPEAKER button and wait for a dial tone.
2. Dial the telephone number you wish to call.
3. You can adjust the volume of the caller’s voice by pressing the VOLUME and v
^
buttons.
Switching between Speaker and Handset
You can switch between speakerphone and handset while the phone is dialing a
number, or anytime during a conversation.
• Speaker to Handset — Pick up the handset.
• Handset to Speaker — Press SPEAKER, then hang up handset.
Temporary Tone Dialing
If you have pulse service, you can temporarily change from pulse to tone service.
After dialing the telephone number, press and release the TONE (*) button on
the telephone. This allows access to phone services that require a tone, such as
banking and long-distance services. After you hang up the handset, the telephone
automatically returns to pulse service.

Flash
Press the FLASH button instead of using the hook switch to activate customer calling
services such as call waiting or call transfer, which are provided by your local phone
company.
Redial
Redial the last number you called by pressing the REDIAL button after you get a dial
tone.
NOTE: The Redial feature holds in memory the last phone number
you dialed (as many as 63 digits). If you pressed any numbers after
dialing the phone number, (for example, when accessing a voice-
menu system) those numbers also are redialed.
IMPORTANT: In the event of a power outage, your phone will still
be able to make and receive calls, however, the speakerphone and
answerer will not be operational.
Mute
1. Press the MUTE button to mute a call, the MUTE indicator will light up. You will still
be able to hear the calling party but they will not be able to hear you speaking.
2. Press the MUTE button again to unmute the call.
Answerer Operation
Call Answering
When a call comes in, the unit will ring the number of times set, play the greeting, and
record the incoming call.
You can:
• Answer the call before the unit answers.
• Pick up the phone during the greeting.
• Listen to the incoming message (Call screening).

• Pick up the phone during the incoming message, if desired.
• Disconnect the caller by pressing the STOP button.
Auto Disconnect
Auto disconnect is a feature that tells the unit to stop playing the greeting or
recording when a extension phone is picked up. Sometimes you may pick up and the
machine keeps playing the greeting. This is normal. If you want to pick up the phone
during the greeting play, wait about two seconds after the system answers before
picking up a phone.
If the greeting continues to play after picking up an extension phone, press the PLAY/
STOP button.
Playing Messages
Use the PLAY/STOP button to play messages. The unit first plays new messages
in the order received. If there are no messages, the unit announces, “You have no
messages.” If there are no new messages, the old messages are played back.
When playing messages, the message number and the date-time stamp will be
shown on the display. If Caller ID name and number information is received, that will
be displayed also.
• To play messages, press and release PLAY/STOP.
• To stop playback, press and release PLAY/STOP again.
• To restart the message that is playing, press and hold REVIEW until the message
restarts.
• Toreplaythepreviousmessage,pressandreleaseREVIEW.
• To play the next message, press and release NEXT.
Erase Messages
Single Messages
You can erase a message itself, leaving the Caller ID information.
• While the message is playing, press and release DELETE. The unit erases the
current message and announces, “Message erased.”

All Messages
You can also erase all the old messages only, leaving the new messages and Caller ID
information.
While the unit is in ready-to-answer mode, press and hold DELETE until the unit
announces, “Messages erased.”
• New messages can not be erased in this way. To erase new messages, play them
then press DELETE during play back.
Leaving a Memo
Use the MEMO button to record a specific message for others who have access to
the unit.
1. Press and hold the MEMO button. The unit announces, “Record your memo after
the tone.”
2. Record your message after the beep.
3. Release MEMO when you’re finished talking. The unit treats the memo as a
message, as the display shows.
Memory Full
When the unit’s memory is full, it answers after 10 rings and announces, “Memory
is full. No messages will be recorded.” A 20-second waiting period follows, allowing
you to enter your security code.
Remote Access
You can access your answerer from any touch-tone phone from another location
by entering your 3-digit security code (the default security code is 1 2 3, but you can
change it.) Be aware that remote functions do not work with rotary or push-button
pulse-dialing phones.
To access your answerer:
1. Call your telephone number.
2. After you hear the beep that follows the greeting, enter your 3-digit security code.

The unit confirms your code with a beep. To bypass the greeting, you can enter
your 3-digit security code any time while the greeting is playing.
The unit waits for a remote command for 20 seconds after the correct security code
has been entered. Menu selections can be made while the menu is playing.
NOTE: The unit answers on the 10th ring when it is turned off or the
memory is full. To access the answerer, enter the 3-digit security
code after the beep. If memory is full, play messages and erase
some of them to restore memory.

Caller ID Features
IMPORTANT: In order to use this unit’s Caller ID features, you must
subscribe to either the standard Name/Number Caller ID Service or
Call Waiting Caller ID Service. To know who is calling while you are
on the phone, you must subscribe to Call Waiting Caller ID Service.
This unit receives and displays CID information transmitted by your local telephone
company. This information can include the phone number, date and time; or the
name, phone number, and date and time.

Summary Screen
The summary screen shows the current time, current date and number of new
calls to be reviewed. It is displayed until any button is pressed. Within 10 seconds of
receiving a new call, the summary screen is displayed. It is similar to the Message
playing screen except there is no
icon on the display.

Caller ID with Call Waiting
Provided you subscribe to Call Waiting Caller ID service from your phone company; if
you receive an incoming call and you are already on the phone, a beep indicates the
presence of a Call Waiting call on the line. Only the handset that is in use at the time
of the call will display and store the Call Waiting Caller ID information.
• When you hear the call waiting beep in the handset receiver, press the FLASH/EXIT
button to put the current call on hold and answer the incoming call. Press FLASH/
EXIT again to return to the original call.
Receiving and Storing Calls
The unit receives and displays information transmitted by your local phone company.
This information can include the phone number, date, and time; or the name, phone
number, date, and time. When the Caller ID memory is full, a new call automatically
replaces the oldest call in memory. NEW appears in the display for calls received that
have not been reviewed.

Reviewing Call Records
Use either the REVIEW or NEXT button to review your Caller ID records. The unit
announces, “Press NEXT or REVIEW to review Caller ID. Press STOP to quit.”
• Press REVIEW to scroll through the call records from the most recent to the oldest.
• Press NEXT to scroll through the call records from the oldest to the newest.
• When all of the messages have been viewed, END OF LIST appears in the display.
• If there are new calls, they will be displayed first.
• If there are only old calls, all the calls will be reviewed.
Erasing Caller ID Info
You can erase a Caller ID record, leaving any associated message.
• While the call info is displayed, press and release DELETE. The unit erases the
current Caller ID info and the next record is displayed.
You can also erase all Caller ID records, leaving any associated message.
• Press REVIEW when reviewing the first Caller ID record; the unit displays START OF
LIST. Then press DELETE, and the unit displays ERASE ALL CALLS? Press DELETE
again to erase all Caller ID records. OR
• Press NEXT when reviewing the latest Caller ID record; the unit displays END OF
LIST. Then press DELETE, and the unit displays ERASE ALL CALLS? Press DELETE
again to erase all Caller ID records.
Dialing Back
When reviewing Caller ID records, you may dial back the phone numbers shown on
the display by pressing the DIAL button.
If you programmed your local area code in the setup menu
1. Use the NEXT and REVIEW buttons to scroll to the number you want to dial.
• If you see a number with 7 digits (i.e. 555-1234), then the call was received from
within your area code. However, this does not guarantee the call is a local call.

• If you see a number with 11 digits (i.e. 1-234-555-1234), then the call received was
not from your area code.
2. Press the DIAL button and the display shows PICKUP or ADJ. A 10 second timer also
starts in the upper right side of the display, letting you know the time remaining
until the unit returns to the Summary Screen. If you adjust the number to be dialed,
the timer automatically resets itself.
3. To adjust the phone number, press the DIAL button. For instance, a 7-digit local
number sometimes cannot be dialed because it requires a 10-digit or 11-digit
format. Press the DIAL button repeatedly to scroll through the 7, 10, and 11-digit
numbers.
7-digits:
7-digit telephone number (i.e. 555-5555)
10-digits: 3-digit area code + 7-digit telephone number (i.e. 425-555-5555)
11-digits: long distance code 1 + 3-digit area code + 7-digit telephone number
(i.e. 1-425-555-5555)
4. To dial the displayed number, pick up the handset or press the SPEAKER button
before the timer reaches 0. NOW DIALING shows in the display and the number is
dialed.
If you did not program your local area code in the setup menu
1. Use the NEXT and REVIEW buttons to scroll to the number you want to dial. You will
only see 10-digit numbers (i.e. 234-555-1234).
2. See steps 2 through 4 in the above section to complete the dial back sequence.
NOTE: To cancel Dial Back, press PLAY/STOP or wait for the unit to
return to the ready-to-answer mode.
Memory
You can store up to 13 numbers in memory for quick dialing – 3 in the quick dial
buttons and 10 in the keypad numbers (0-9). Each memory location can store number
up to 28 digits.

Storing a Number in Memory
1. Press the STORE button. ENTER TEL. NO. is displayed.
2. Use the keypad to enter the phone number. You can put spaces in the number and
it will still dial correctly. To enter a space, press NEXT button.
• To scroll forward or backward, use NEXT (when the cursor is not at the end of the
number) or REVIEW.
• To erase the current digit, press DELETE.
3. When finished, press STORE. ENTER NAME is displayed.
4. Use the keypad to store a name (up to 16 characters). More than one letter or
character is available in each of the number keys. For example, to enter the letter
“A,” press the 2 key once. For a “B,” press the same key twice. For a “C,” press it
three times.
• To add a space, press NEXT.
• To scroll forward or backward, use NEXT or REVIEW.
• To erase the current character, press DELETE.
5. When finished, press STORE. MEMORY LOCATION is displayed.
6. Press the memory location number (0-9 or A, B, C) to store the number.
Example:
To store 1 123 555 1211 Al Smith, you would do the following:
1. Press 1; press NEXT; press 1; press 2; etc.
2. When finished, press STORE.
3. To enter the name, press 2; press NEXT; press 5 (three times); press NEXT (two times);
press 7 (four times); etc.
4. When finished, press STORE.
5. Press the memory location number (0-9 or A,B,C) to store.

Storing Caller ID Records
You can also store Caller ID records in memory. Rather than re-entering the
information the traditional way, you can store the record in a memory location or
quick dial button.
1. Use the NEXT or REVIEW buttons to scroll to the Caller ID record you want to store.
Press DIAL button to change the format (11 or 10 or 7 digits number format) as
desired.
2. Press STORE.
3. Press the memory location number (0-9 or A, B, C) to store the record.
Inserting a Pause in the Dialing Sequence
Press the REDIAL/PAUSE button to insert a delay in the dialing sequence of a stored
telephone number when a pause is needed to wait for a dial tone (for example after
you dial 9 for an outside line, or to wait for a computer access tone). Each pause is
represented as “P” on the display and counts as 1 digit in the dialing sequence.
Changing a Stored Number
Use the same procedure to change a stored number as you do to store a number–
you’re just replacing the phone number with a different one.
Dialing a Stored Number
1. Pick up the handset or press SPEAKER.
2. Press DIAL/ENTER. MEMORY DIAL=? is displayed.
3. Press the memory location number (0-9). The number dials automatically.
Alternatively, you can preview the number before dialing (when the handset is
on-hook).
Press the DIAL button and then select the desired memory location (0-9). The
number will be shown on the display, press DIAL again to make the connection in
speakerphone mode.

Dialing a Quick Dial Number
1. Pick up the handset or press SPEAKER.
2. Press A, B, or C. The number dials automatically.
IMPORTANT: If you make test calls to emergency numbers, remain
on the line and explain the reason for the call. Also, make these
calls in off-peak hours, such as early morning or late evening.
Alternatively, you can preview the number before dialing (when the handset is
on-hook).
Press a Quick Dial button (A, B or C), the number will be shown on the display, press
DIAL again to make the connection in speakerphone mode.
Reviewing Stored Numbers
1. Press DIAL/ENTER. MEMORY DIAL=? is displayed.
2. Use NEXT or REVIEW to scroll through the memory locations.
• To dial the displayed number, press DIAL. The speakerphone comes on and dials
the number automatically. (To cancel, press SPEAKER).
• To exit stored number review, press FLASH/EXIT.
• To change the displayed number, press STORE.
EDIT TEL. NO. is displayed. See “Storing a Number in Memory.”
NOTE: Direct access memory A, B and C are displayed as Memory
11, 12 and 13 respectively on the display.

Chain Dialing from Memory
Use this feature to make calls which require a sequence of numbers, for instance if
you use a calling card for a frequently called long distance number. Basically, you dial
each part of the sequence from memory. The following example shows how you can
use chain dialing to make a call through a long distance service:

The following special messages indicate the status of a message or the unit:
00 CALLS
The call record log is empty.
UNKNOWN CALLER The incoming call does not have Caller ID service or their
service area is not linked to yours. If UNKNOWN NAME
appears along with a calling number, the name information for
that number was not available.
BLOCKED CALL
The caller is registered as “Private Number” and the Caller ID
information is withheld.
ERROR
Caller information has been interrupted during transmission.
START OF LIST/
END OF LIST
Indicates you are at the beginning or the end of the call record
log.
MEMO
The message has been recorded as a memo.

Troubleshooting Guide
Telephone Solutions
No dial tone
• Check the hook switch to make sure it pops up.
Won’t dial out
• Make sure the tone/pulse setting is programmed correctly.
Phone doesn’t ring
• Check the ringer volume.
• Could have too many phones on one line. (See FCC registration information
regarding REN)
Low handset or speaker volume
• Check the volume settings.
Can’t be heard by other party
• Make sure the phone cord is securely plugged in.
• Make sure the MUTE function is OFF.
Memory dialing
• Make sure you entered the numbers correctly. (See “Memory.”)
Answerer Solutions
Doesn’t answer, ß or answers on 10th ring
• Make sure the answerer is turned on.
• Memory is full, erase some messages.
• Check the AC power and phone line connections.
Incoming messages are incomplete
• Was an extension phone picked up?
• The caller left a message that is longer than the message length you set during
setup.
• Memory is full.

Won’t respond to remote commands
• Must use a touch-tone phone.
• Must enter the correct security code.
• Did unit hang up? If you take no action for a period of time, it automatically hangs
up.
Answerer doesn’t work
• Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet and plug it back in to reset the
answerer.
After the unit is plugged in, FLASH ERROR is displayed
• Unplug the unit and plug it back in. If the message appears again, the unit needs
service.
Can’t hear messages
• Adjust the volume control.
Greeting continues to play even after an extension phone is picked up.
• This is normal operation. Auto disconnect is delayed for 1 second after the unit
answers a call. If you are near the unit, press PLAY/STOP to stop the greeting.
No information is shown after the phone rings
• Be sure to wait until the second ring before answering.
• Check all cabling to make sure that all connections are secure and not damaged.
• Did you order Caller ID service from your local telephone company.
Error message is displayed
• ERROR appears in the display if the unit detects anything other than valid Caller
ID information during the silent period after the first ring. This message indicates
either the presence of noise on the line, or that an invalid message has been sent
from the telephone company?

Instalación sobre Superficie Plana
CUIDADO: Para reducir el riesgo de lesión personal, fuego, o daño use
solamente el adaptador de corriente 5-2768 (blanco), 5-2644 (negro), or
5-2779 (negro) listado en la guia del usuario. Este adaptador de corriente
es diseñado para estar orientado correctamente en una posición de
montaje vertical o en el piso.
1. Conecte el cable espiral en el auricular. Conecte el otro extremo en el enchufe al costado de
la base.

3. Conecte el cable largo de línea telefónica en el enchufe marcado “LINE” en la parte posterior
del teléfono. Conecte el otro extremo en un contacto de pared.
4. Conecte el extremo pequeño del cable de corriente en el enchufe marcado “POWER 7.5V
AC” en la parte trasera del contestador. Conecte el otro extremo en un enchufe de corriente
AC. El aparato emite un tono indicando que está listo para ser programado o para contestar
llamadas con el saludo y las programaciones de fábrica.

NOTA: El teléfono automáticamente revierte a la modalidad para marcar
por tono (“touch-tone”). Para cambiar a modalidad de pulso (rotatorio),
vea la sección “Cómo Marcar por Pulso/Tono.” Si usted no sabe qué tipo de
servicio tiene, verifique con su compañía telefónica.
NOTA: El aparato está instalado
adecuadamente si usted levanta el auricular
y escucha el tono de marcar. De otra manera

Instalación del Teléfono sobre Pared
1. Cuidadosamente gire el gancho para colgar 1800 con
una moneda o un desarmador hasta que apunte hacia
arriba. Usted tiene que hacer esto para que el auricular
no se caiga de la base.
ꢀ. Conecte el cable espiral en el auricular. Conecte el otro
extremo en el enchufe al costado de la base.

3. Coloque el auricular sobre la base.
4. Cuidadosamente dé la vuelta al aparato a que quede boca abajo. Quite la placa para
montaje de los dos pares de ranuras en la parte superior, oprimiendo las lengüetas
hacia adentro. Jale la placa del teléfono y gírela a que quede como indica el diagrama.
Cuidadosamente oprima la placa dentro de los dos pares de ranuras inferiores hasta que un
chasquido le indique que han entrado a su sitio.
5. Conecte el cable de línea dentro del enchufe en la parte trasera de la base. Enrede el cable
excedente, si es que hay un excedente, alrededor de los ganchos provistos en la parte de
abajo del aparato.
6. Alimente el cable de línea corto a través de las hendiduras provistas en la parte de abajo del
aparato de manera que éste quede plano y listo para ser montado sobre la pared.
7. Conecte el otro extremo del cable de línea en un contacto de pared.
8. Conecte el extremo pequeño de del cable de corriente en el enchufe marcado “POWER 7.5V
AC” en la parte trasera del contestador. Conecte el otro extremo en un enchufe de corriente
AC. El aparato emite un tono indicando que está listo para ser programado o para contestar
llamadas con el saludo y las programaciones de fábrica.
9. Deslice los agujeros para montaje en la base (en la parte de abajo del aparato) sobre los
postecitos en la placa de pared y deslice la base hacia abajo hasta que el teléfono esté
sujeto firmemente en su sitio.
Instrucciones Importantes para Mover el Contestador
Para mover el contestador a una localización diferente dentro de la casa, siga las siguientes
instrucciones:
1. Desconecte la línea telefónica.
ꢀ. Vaya al contacto eléctrico y desconecte el cable de corriente.
3. Mueva el aparato y la línea telefónica a la localización deseada.
4. Conecte el cable de corriente en un enchufe eléctrico.
5. La pantalla muestra que los mensajes no han sido borrados.
6. Conecte la línea telefónica.
7. Vuelva a programar las funciones de hora/fecha o espere a que la siguiente llamada
entrante las re‑programe automáticamente.

Programación del Sistema Contestador
Para grabar el saludo
Antes de usar su nuevo contestador, usted debe de grabar un saludo (el anuncio que la
persona que llama escucha cuando su sistema de contestador contesta una llamada). Si
usted no graba un saludo, las personas que llaman escucharán el saludo por omisión (pre‑
programado de fábrica) que dice, “No estamos disponibles para contestar su llamada, por
favor deje un mensaje. Gracias por llamar.”
Cuando grabe el saludo, usted debe estar aproximadamente a 6 pulgadas del aparato. Elimine
tanto ruido de fondo como le sea posible.
1. Prepare su saludo.
Ejemplo de un saludo: “Hola, habla (use su nombre aquí). No puedo contestar el teléfono
en este momento, pero por favor deje su nombre, número de teléfono y un mensaje breve
después del tono, y yo le llamaré más tarde. Gracias por llamar.”
ꢀ. Sostenga oprimido el botón GREETING. El aparato le indica que grabe su saludo después del
tono (“Record your greeting after the tone” ) y la indicación GREETING RECORD aparece en
la pantalla. Después del tono, usted tiene 30 segundos para grabar su saludo.
3. l GREETING una vez que haya terminado.
• Para revisar el saludo, oprima y suelte el botón GREETING. El aparato reproduce
automáticamente su saludo.
• Para volver al saludo programado de fábrica en la contestadora después de que usted ha
grabado uno, oprima el botón GREETING y suéltelo cuando escuche el tono, u oprima y
sostenga el botón DELETE cuando el saludo se esté reproduciendo.

Timbres para Contestar
Acceso Remoto
Establece la duración de tiempo permitido para los mensajes
entrantes.
Establece el número de timbres que el aparato recibe antes de
contestar la llamada entrante.
Establece su código de 3 dígitos para usar el acceso remoto con
su aparato.
Marcado por TONO/ PULSO Programa al teléfono para poder marcar por tono o pulso.
Claves de Area Regionales Establece su clave de área regional si tiene múltiples claves
de área en donde usted reside
Durante el proceso de configuración del teléfono, Ud. puede presionar el botón DELETE para
retroceder al menú SETUP anterior.
Programación del Contraste de la Pantalla
Esta programación le permite ajustar el contraste de la pantalla para leer con mayor facilidad.
1. Oprima y suelte el botón MENU hasta que la indicación SET CONTRAST aparezca en la
pantalla. El aparato anuncia “Setup Menu. To change setting, use NEXT (siguiente) o
REVIEW (revisar). To save a setting, press ENTER.”
ꢀ. Utilice el botón NEXT o REVIEW para seleccionar la programación deseada u oprima el
número en el teclado correspondiente a esa programación (1‑5).
3. Cuando haya terminado, oprima el botón ENTER para confirmar. El aparato emite un tono.
NOTA: Para saltar a la siguiente programación, oprima el botón MENU.

Programación de la Hora y Fecha
NOTA: Si usted se ha suscrito a la función de la pantalla del Identificador
de Llamadas a través de su compañía telefónica, la compañía telefónica
manda la hora y fecha con la información del Identificador de Llamadas.
El aparato programa automáticamente la hora y fecha cuando recibe la
primera llamada.

la indicación SET RINGS TO ANS (programe número de timbres para contestar) aparezca en

Ahorrador de Cargos
El Ahorrador de Cargos le puede ahorrar el costo de una llamada cuando usted tiene acceso a
sus mensajes desde otro teléfono:
• Si usted tiene mensajes nuevos, el aparato contesta después del segundo timbre.
• Si usted no tiene mensajes nuevos, el aparato contesta después del quinto timbre.
Usted puede colgar después del tercer timbre y ahorrarse pagar el costo de la llamada o el
cargo de larga distancia.
Programación del Código de Seguridad
Esta programación le permite cambiar el código de acceso remoto programado de fábrica
que se utiliza para tener acceso a su contestador desde otra localización. El código pre‑
programado es 1ꢀ3.
1. Si usted acaba de ajustar el menú de Timbres para Contestar, salte al paso ꢀ. Si usted
no ha ajustado ninguna otra programación, oprima y suelte el botón MENU hasta que la
indicación REMOTE ACCESS (acceso remoto) aparezca en la pantalla.
ꢀ. Utilice los botones NEXT o REVIEW para seleccionar el primer dígito.
3. Una vez que el primer dígito está programado, oprima el botón ENTER. El aparato emite un
tono para confirmar.
4. Repita los pasos ꢀ‑3 hasta que todos los dígitos del código de seguridad estén programados.

Programación de las Claves de Area Regionales
Dependiendo de su área, usted puede necesitar programar claves de área regionales. Estas
son necesarias para que el teléfono pueda determinar el formato del número que debe
mostrar cuando entra una señal válida del Identificador de Llamadas. Las llamadas recibidas
que corresponden a cualquiera de las claves de área regionales se muestran como números
de 10 dígitos. Si el número no está mostrado correctamente el teléfono puede nos ser capaz
de marcar ese número adecuadamente. Usted puede almacenar hasta 6 claves de área
regionales.
Usted puede necesitar usar esta función si usted tiene:
• Múltiples claves de área.
• Claves de área sobrepuestas.
• Areas que requieren números con formato de 10 dígitos para marcar.

Localización del Altavoz
Para el mejor funcionamiento del altavoz, evite lo siguiente:
• Areas con mucho ruido de fondo. (El micrófono puede recoger estos sonidos y evitar que el
altavoz pueda cambiarse a la modalidad para recibir cuando usted termina de hablar).
• Superficies afectadas por vibración.
• Areas remetidas, como una esquina, abajo de una gaveta, o junto a un gabinete, los cuales
pueden generar un efecto de eco.
Uso del Altavoz
Siga las siguientes pautas cuando utilice el altavoz:
• El altavoz funciona en una forma similar a un radio de dos sentidos, en que usted puede
únicamente escuchar o hablar al mismo tiempo.
• Quédese razonablemente cerca del teléfono para que pueda ser escuchado claramente por
la persona con la que está hablando.

Cómo Auto-Desconectar
Auto‑desconectar es una función que le dice al aparato que detenga la reproducción del
saludo o grabación cuando se levanta una extensión del teléfono. Algunas veces usted puede
levantar el teléfono y el aparato continúa reproduciendo el saludo. Esto es normal. Si usted

quiere levantar el teléfono mientras se reproduce el saludo, espere como dos segundos
después de que el sistema contesta y antes de levantar el teléfono.
Si el saludo continúa reproduciéndose después de que se levanta una extensión del teléfono,
oprima el botón “STOP.”
Cómo Reproducir los Mensajes
Utilice el botón PLAY/STOP para reproducir mensajes. El aparato reproduce primero los
mensajes nuevos en el orden recibido. Si no hay mensajes, el aparato le indica que usted no
tiene mensajes (“You have no messages”). Si no hay mensajes nuevos, los mensajes viejos se
vuelven a reproducir.
Mientras se reproducen mensajes, el número de mensajes y el sello de fecha‑hora se mostrará
en la pantalla. Si se recibe la información del nombre y número del Identificador de Llamadas,
ésta se mostrará en la pantalla también.
• Para reproducir mensajes, oprima y suelte el botón PLAY/STOP.
• Para detener la reproducción, oprima y suelte nuevamente el botón PLAY/STOP.
• Para volver a comenzar el mensaje que se está reproduciendo, oprima y sostenga el botón
REVIEW hasta que el mensaje vuelva a comenzar.
• Para reproducir el mensaje anterior, oprima y suelte el botón REVIEW.
• Para reproducir el siguiente mensaje, oprima y suelte el botón “NEXT.”
Cómo Borrar Mensajes
Mensajes individuales
Usted puede borrar el mensaje mismo, dejando únicamente la información del Identificador de
Llamadas.
• Mientras el mensaje se está reproduciendo, oprima y suelte el botón DELETE. El aparato
borra el mensaje actual y así lo indica (“Message erased.”).
Todos los Mensajes
Usted puede también borrar únicamente los mensajes viejos, dejando los mensajes nuevos y la
información del Identificador de Llamadas.
Mientras el aparato está en la modalidad de listo para contestar, oprima y sostenga el botón

Cómo dejar un Recado (Memo)
Utilice el botón MEMO para dejar un recado específico a otras personas que tienen acceso al
aparato.
1. Oprima y sostenga el botón MEMO. El aparato le pide que grabe su mensaje después del
tono (“Record your memo after the tone.”).
ꢀ. Grabe su recado después del bip.
3. Suelte el botón MEMO cuando haya terminado de hablar. El aparato trata los recados como
si fueran mensajes, como lo muestra la pantalla.
Memoria Llena
Cuando la memoria del aparato está llena, éste contesta después de 10 timbres y anuncia que
la memoria está llena y que no se grabará el mensaje (“Memory is full. No messages will be
recorded.”). A esto le sigue un periodo de espera de ꢀ0 segundos, lo cual le permite inscribir su

Acceso Remoto
Usted puede tener acceso a su contestador desde cualquier teléfono con modalidad para

Identificador de Llamada con Llamada en Espera
Suponiendo que usted está suscrito al servicio de Identificador de Llamada en Espera a
través de su compañía telefónica; si usted recibe una llamada entrante y usted está ya en el
teléfono, una señal sonora indica que la presencia de Llamada en Espera llamada invita la
línea. Solamente el auricular que está en uso a la hora de la llamada exhibirá y almacena la
información de la identificación de llamador el esperar de llamada.
• Cuando usted escuche el tono de llamada en espera en la bocina del auricular, prima el
botón FLASH/EXIT para poner la llamada actual en espera y poder contestar la llamada
entrante. Presione FLASH/EXIT otra vez para volver a la llamada original.

Indicadores de Mensajes
Los siguientes mensajes especiales indican el estado actual de un mensaje o del aparato:

El registro de llamadas está vacío.
UNKNOWN CALLER
(PERSONA
DESCONOCIDA)
La llamada entrante no tiene servicio de Identificador de Llamadas o
su área de servicio no está conectada con la suya. Si la indicación
UNKNOWN NAME (nombre desconocido) aparece junto con el
número que llama, significa que la información del nombre para ese
número no estaba disponible.
BLOCKED CALL
(LLAMADA
BLOQUEADA)
La persona haciendo la llamada entrante está registrada como
“Número Privado” y sus datos de Identificador de Llamadas no serán
revelados.
ERROR
La información de la persona que llama ha sido interrumpida durante
la transmisión.
START OF LIST
/END OF LIST
Indica que usted está al principio o al final del registro de llamadas.
(PRINCIPIO/ FINAL)
MEMO (RECADO)
El mensaje ha sido grabado como recado.

Solución de Problemas
Soluciones Para el Teléfono
No hay tono de marcar.
• Verifique que le gancho para colgar rebote hacia arriba.
No da línea.
• Asegúrese de que el selector de tono/ pulso esté programado correctamente.
El teléfono no timbra.
• Verifique los niveles de volumen.
• Puede haber demasiadas extensiones del teléfono en su línea. (Vea la información de
registro a la FCC en relación al REN).
Volumen del auricular y altavoz muy bajos.
• Verifique los niveles de volumen.
A usted no le escucha la otra otra persona.
• ¿Está el cable del auricular o de los audífonos conectado adecuadamente?
• Asegúrese que la función MUTE esté apagada.
La función de marcar por memoria no sirve.
• Asegúrese de que inscribió los números correctamente. (Vea la sección “Memoria”).
Soluciones para el Contestador
No contesta, o contesta en el décimo timbre.
• Asegúrese de que el contestador esté encendido.
• La memoria está llena, borre algunos mensajes.
• Verifique las conexiones del cable de corriente AC y del cable telefónico.
Los mensajes entrantes están Incompletos.
• ¿Alguien levantó una extensión?
• La persona que llamó dejó un mensaje más largo que el tiempo que usted programó para la
duración.
• La memoria está llena.

No responde a los comandos de acceso remoto.
• Tiene que usar un teléfono con modalidad para marcar de Touch‑Tone.
• Usted debe inscribir el código de seguridad correcto.
• ¿El aparato colgó? Si usted no actúa por un periodo de tiempo, el aparato cuelga
automáticamente.
El contestador no funciona.
• Desconecte el cable de corriente del enchufe de pared y vuelva a conectarlo para reajustar
el contestador.
Después de que el aparato se conecta, aparece la indicación “FLASH ERROR.”
• Desconecte el aparato y vuelva a conectarlo. Si el mensaje vuelve a aparecer, el aparato
necesita servicio de reparación.
No puede escuchar los mensajes.
• Ajuste el control de volumen.
El saludo continúa reproduciéndose incluso después de que se levanta una extensión.
• Esta es su operación normal. El Desconectado Automático se retrasa 1 segundo después
de que el aparato contesta una llamada. Si usted está cerca del aparato, oprima el botón
“PLAY/ STOP” para suspender el saludo.
No se muestra ninguna información después de que el teléfono suena.
• Asegúrese de esperar a contestar después del segundo timbre.
• Revise todo el cableado para asegurarse de que todas las conexiones están sujetas
adecuadamente y no están dañadas.
• ¿Ordenó usted el servicio de Identificador de Llamadas (Caller ID a través de su compañía de
larga distancia?
Se muestra un mensaje erróneo.
• La indicación “ERROR” aparece en la pantalla del aparato si el aparato detecta cualquier
cosa que no sea información válida del Identificador de Llamadas durante el periodo de
silencio después del primer timbre. Este mensaje le indica que hay ruido en la línea, o que un
mensaje inválido ha sido enviado desde su compañía telefónica.

Cuidado general del producto
Para mantener su teléfono funcionando bien y con buena apariencia, observe las siguientes
pautas:
• Evite poner el teléfono cerca de calentadores (calefactores) de ambiente y dispositivos que
generen interferencia eléctrica ejemplo, motores o lámparas fluorescentes).

• No deje caer la extensión móvil y no maltrate el teléfono.
• Limpie el teléfono con un trapo suave.

• Retenga el empaque original en caso de que necesite embarcar el auricular en el futuro.

Garantía Limitada
Lo que cubre su garantía:
• Defectos de materiales o de trabajo.
