INTRODUCTION
Specific uMusic+ remote buttons
Listening made easy
Some buttons on your system remote work specifically
with your stored music.
The Bose® uMusic®+ intelligent playback system is an
advanced feature that makes it easy to store and enjoy
your music collection.
These special buttons include:
To experience how it does this, you first need to store
some music. Then, you can:

without sorting through a clutter of discs.

Discs you can store
Storing a CD
There are two types of discs you can store.
The first step in using the uMusic®+ system is to store
some of your collected music. The system does not
need to be on for this.
Audio CDs
Commercially produced CDs are identified by music
databases in the system. This data enables the
uMusic+ system software to recognize, categorize,
and make connections between songs.
1. Open the disc tray on the media center.
2. Put the disc in and close the tray.
If the system does not recognize an album when you
start to store it, DISC NOT RECOGNIZED appears on
the media center display.
3. Press the Store button on the media center.
ACCESSING GRACENOTE MEDIA DATABASE
appears on the display for an Audio CD.
You may prefer to remove the disc to cancel storing.
Then, you can use music management software (like
iTunes), on a computer connected to the Internet, to
provide the album identity.
When STORING appears on the lower right of the
display, you can check the percentage completed.
Or, you can choose to store this unrecognized disc,
then use the system Edit screen to add the identity.
MP3s on CD or DVD
MP3 tracks that are created on a computer usually
include information (called ID3 tags), such as the artist
and album for each track.
4. When you see AUDIO CD (or MP3 DISC) STORED,
remove the disc.
Note: While storing an MP3 disc, you may see additional
messages (such as SKIPPED when a track on the disc is
corrupt or incorrectly formatted) or DUPLICATE (if the same
track is already in the system).
Before copying audio material onto your computer or creating an MP3 CD,
you should:
•Make sure you have the legal right to copy the particular audio content;
•Avoid sources of audio material that may be questionable, such as certain
file sharing facilities;

GETTING STARTED
Reserving time for storing
• For an Audio CD, allow about 10 minutes. For MP3s,
estimate about 10 minutes for a disc of 25 tracks.
• When BUSY PROCESSING CDS appears on the
media center display, you need to wait before you
store more music.
Allow approximately one hour before you resume
storing.
• For 10 commercially produced CDs, it takes about 6
hours of processing time with the system turned off.
For MP3 tracks, this processing is not necessary.
• Using the system or having it turned on during
processing lengthens the time needed.
• Processing stops when your media center is
unplugged, turned off at an outlet, or the power fails.
Processing resumes when power is available again.
• If storing takes much longer than expected, the disc
may be marred or smudged.
You can remove the disc and wipe it off as instructed
in your Bose® owner’s guide. Then reinsert the disc

REFERENCE
• The same track from two different MP3 discs will be
stored only once. When you press the CD # for the
disc stored first, the track will play. It will not play,
however, when you press CD # for the disc stored
later.
Details on discs to store
Some additional details may help you use this Bose®
home entertainment system to its fullest.
• If an album is on an MP3 disc twice, after storing, it
shows up just once under Albums. If there are two
different artists associated with the album, however,
each track appears twice in the Album list.
• If an audio CD and an MP3 disc contain the same
album, this album will be stored twice and listed twice
in the Albums category of the Music Library. The
tracks will be listed once under each album, but twice
in the list of all Tracks.
More about compatible discs
Other than MP3 you cannot import data disc audio
formats such as Windows Media Audio (WMA) and
those protected by Digital Rights Management (DRM).
For details on creating MP3 files, refer to the music
management system on your computer.
Other details:
• You can store the same song from both an MP3 disc
and an audio CD. However, music data that is
provided with the MP3 does not apply to this same
song from the audio CD.
Assistance and product details
Please see your Bose owner’s guide, provided in the
carton, for the following information:
• If the songs from one album are stored, some from an
MP3 disc and others from an audio CD, they will not
all be recognized as coming from the same album.
• For any MP3 files to be recognized as songs from the
same album, they must be stored from the same MP3
disc. A two-session disc qualifies as one disc.
• maintenance
• troubleshooting
• warranty coverage
• technical product information
• instructions on further use of the system
Customer service information is provided on a separate
address list in the carton.
Before copying audio material onto your computer or creating an MP3 CD,
you should:
•Make sure you have the legal right to copy the particular audio content;
•Avoid sources of audio material that may be questionable, such as certain file
sharing facilities;
•Not use the copies or CDs as a means to share audio content with others, but
confine such copying, where permissible, to your personal use.

Music in the bedroom
Extending your LIFESTYLE
Imagine having access to all your stored music from
your bedroom. Listen to a quiet classical track as you
drift off to sleep, or let one of your uStationTM presets
deliver more upbeat tunes as you get ready to go out
for dinner. While you could wire to your bedroom, this
room is often far away from your main system. Rather
than run wires from room to room, we suggest you pair
an AL8 homewide wireless audio link with a Wave®
music system for a simple and easy-to-set-up solution.
system enjoyment
throughout your home
You’ve already discovered how your new LIFESTYLE®
system can digitally store hundreds of CDs and learn
your music tastes. Now it’s time to learn how you can
enjoy your favorite music all around your home – with
great-sounding homewide expansion options from
Bose.
Music in the study
At the end of a long day, you can relax with some soft
jazz. Your study may be closer to the main room
system, so a wired solution might be more practical.
With LIFESTYLE® homewide powered speakers, you
can have the highest level of Bose® stereo quality all to
yourself.
Imagine. You’re enjoying some jazz on the deck, while
your kids are in the den watching a DVD. All from the
same system. All at the same time. But you don’t have
to stop with just two areas around your home. Your
LIFESTYLE® system lets you expand your listening
enjoyment in up to 14 rooms – even outdoors.
Music outdoors
Your system has the capability to deliver music
throughout your home, not just your living room.
Summertime is best spent on the patio, grilling, and
entertaining friends. You can listen to the big game on
the radio and, during commercials, access your stored
music collection. Our Free Space® 51 environmental
speakers and an amplifier provide great sound in the
great outdoors. Our best-performing, most versatile
landscape speakers provide the perfect outdoor
solution.
How can I get great sound and access my stored
music collection throughout my home?
Bose offers a number of flexible options to help
customize a solution that’s perfect for you. Here are
some ideas to get you started.
