1 Introduction: Demo Mode  
The High-Definition Digital Video Recorder (HD DVR) models DHG-HDD250 and DHG-  
HDD500 feature attractive high-definition video content that is pre-recorded and is  
available to be played back as soon as the HD DVR is connected to a TV. You can enjoy  
a short clip of high-definition video even if high-definition cable TV or antenna  
broadcast signals are not immediately available.  
The HD DVRs also have a “Demo Mode” feature that can be activated by following the  
steps outlined in this document. Activating the Demo Feature will:

Allow any program to be played back in a continuous loop  
Limit the number of ways in which a program can be easily deleted  
This feature may be useful in retail or other environments where there is an interest in  
continuously displaying a single recording.

2 Optional First Steps  
2.1 Checking the Format  
When the HD DVR is first powered on, the Auto Setup Welcome screen will  
automatically appear. If you do not see the below Welcome screen on your TV:  
1. Check the connections from the HD DVR to the TV  
2. Check that the correct Format setting for your TV has  
been selected. Repeatedly press the FORMAT button  
on the remote control or front panel until a format  
setting that is compatible with your TV is displayed on  
the front panel (such as “1080, 720p, SD OUT,  
etc.) and the below image appears.  
2.2 Completing or Skipping the Auto Setup  
If the HD DVR will be used to receive cable or antenna services, follow the on-screen  
instructions of the Auto Setup and TV Guide® Setup.  
If the HD DVR will only be used to play the pre-recorded content (such as in a retail  
environment with no available cable or antenna connection), you may follow these  
steps to skip the Auto Setup and TV Guide Setup.  
1. While the above screen is displayed, press the  
SCREEN MODE button on the remote control.  
2. Enter the numbers “1, 1, 2, 0.

3. The Auto Setup will be skipped and the TV  
Guide Setup will appear.  
4. Press the EXIT button on the remote control or  
front panel to skip the TV Guide Setup.  
Note:  
After skipping the Auto Setup, no channels can be tuned. Use the Preferences /  
CH+/- / Auto Scan menu to add channels later. After skipping the TV Guide Setup,  
no program guide information will be received. Use the TV Guide Setup menu to  
allow program guide information to be received later.  
2.3 Changing the Auto Off Setting  
If the HD DVR will not be used to receive cable or antenna broadcast signals, it may be  
useful to disable the Auto Off feature. Disabling this feature will allow recorded  
material to play continuously throughout the day, every day, without the HD DVR being  
automatically placed in standby mode by the Auto Off feature.  
1. Press the MENU button on the remote control  
to display the main menu. Highlight and select  
Preferences.
