HDM90ꢀOPERATION
HDꢀRadio™ꢀAM/FMꢀTunerꢀOperation
Overview The HDM90 HD Radio Tuner receives both analog and digital
radio stations. Once connected, the HDM90 provides a
higher quality digital version of many existing radio stations,
and enables extra HD2 and HD3 FM radio stations called
multicast channels.
AnalogꢀtoꢀDigitalꢀBlending Once an HD Radio station is selected, the HD Radio logo will
flash in the display for about 5 seconds, indicating that the
signal is blending from analog to digital. After the HD Radio
signal is received, the HD Radio logo will remain solid in the
display, indicating that the tuner is receiving a digital signal.
MulticastꢀChannelsꢀ After the HD Radio logo remains solid in the display, HD or
(seeꢀillustrationꢀbelow) HD1 will illuminate after the radio frequency.
• If "HD" appears, the radio station is broadcasting a higher
quality sound. No additional stations are available.
• If "HD1" appears, additional multicast channels (HD2
and/or HD3) are available.
A multicast channel is a digital-only radio station that cannot
be received by a standard analog tuner. These channels are
labeled as HD2 or HD3 (Example: 106.7-HD2). Once the HD1
station blends to digital, the HD2 or HD3 multicast channels
may be available by pressing the TRACKꢀUP button.
Note: Only FM radio stations can have multicast channels.

HDM90ꢀOPERATION
HDꢀRadio™ꢀAM/FMꢀTunerꢀOperation
SettingꢀMulticastꢀPresets Multicast channels can be set as a preset radio station (1-6)
just like analog radio stations, by holding the button for
desired preset number down for about 3 seconds. Presets
may be set in any band: FM1, FM2, FM3, AM1 or AM2.
RecallingꢀMulticastꢀPresets A saved preset multicast channel can be recalled by
momentarily pressing the desired preset button.
When you recall an HD2 or HD3 multicast channel, there
will be a 5 second delay before the audio can be heard while
the HD Radio signal is received. The head unit will display
"LINKING" indicating that it is waiting for the signal to be
received.
Lowꢀsignal On an HD1 HD Radio station where an analog version of the
station is available, when the signal level of the station is
low the tuner will revert back to the analog version of the
radio station.
On an HD2 or HD3 multicast HD Radio station, when the
signal level is low, the head unit will display "LINKING"
indicating that it is waiting for sufficient signal level.
ꢀDisplay When the unit is tuned to an analogꢀstation, you can toggle
between information such as radio frequency, preset
information, clock, etc.
When the unit is tuned to an HDꢀRadioꢀstation, you can
toggle between information such as radio frequency, artist,
song title, program type, station name, etc.
HDꢀSeekꢀMode HD Seek mode enables the tuner to skip over analog
stations and tune to HD Radio stations only. Once enabled,
functions such as seek, scan and auto station store will only
apply to HD Radio stations. Refer to the instruction manual
for your head unit to enable HD Seek mode.
Notes • Occasionally, HD Radio multicast channels may be added
or deleted. If a preset for a multicast channel is set, and the
station is not available, the head unit will revert to the main
HD1 radio station.
• Functions for the HD Radio tuner mode may vary
depending on the head unit model. Refer to the instruction
manual for your head unit for specific tuner functions such
as tune, seek, scan, presets or auto station store.

iTunes ꢀTagging The iTunes Tagging feature of the HDM90 allows the user
to "Tag" songs that are playing on HD Radio stations and
enables them to be purchased later through iTunes. With
the touch of a button the unit will remember the title and
artist song information, and then transfer that information
to your iPod device the next time you connect it to the head
unit. A new list called "Tagged" will appear in iTunes, giving
you the option to purchase each song.
Refer to the instruction manual for your head unit for
detailed operation and iPod device compatibility. Visit www.
hdradio.com/tagging.php for more information.
