WARNING
High-powered car audio
systems may produce sound
pressure levels that exceed
the threshold at which hearing loss may
result.
They may also impair a driver’s ability to
hear traffic sounds or emergency vehi-
cles. Use common sense and practice
safe listening habits when listening to or
adjusting your audio system.
SOUND QUALITY
Obtaining the highest quality sound
reproduction in the mobile environment
requires installation techniques and
knowledge of vehicle interiors that go
far beyond simple replacement of stock
speakers. Speaker location, orientation,
phasing, and the vehicles interior mate-
rials are important considerations when
designing and installing an auto sound
system.
To achieve the best sound quality
possible from your Directed SX loud-
speakers, Directed recommends the
installation be performed by an MECP
certified technician.

INSTALLATION PRECAUTIONS
The Directed SX series neodymium sepa-
rates are designed for installation into
factory speaker locations, custom
mounting enclosures or any flat mounting
surface inside the vehicle. The following
precautions and instructions cover the
basic and most common types of installa-
tion.
distortion or shorting of the speaker
leads to the chassis ground. Over-
sized holes will not allow the
mounting screws to make sufficient
contact with the panel, allowing the
speaker to become loose.
Always protect the wires when
routing by avoiding sharp metal
edges, moving parts such as heater
or vent controls, clutch pedals, brake
pedals, steering columns, and power
window motors and gears.
Check behind panels for clearance of
metal brackets, hoses, and wire
harnesses before making any cuts.
When mounting speakers into doors,
roll the window up and down to
check clearance of the glass and
window regulator.
When routing wires through metal
panels and doorjambs always use
vinyl tubing and grommets for
protection and a professional-looking
installation.
Make sure the mounting holes are
the correct size for the speaker.
Undersized holes can cause speaker

to completing the next step.
1. There are provided two crossover
assemblies, one for each tweeter.
3. The IN side of the crossover is
connected to the amplifier. Ensure
you observe polarity of wires during
wiring.
2. After the tweeter locations have
been determined. Route the wiring
from the OUT side of the crossover
and connect it to the tweeter
wiring. Ensure you observe polarity
of wires during wiring.
4. Wire tie the crossover assembly and
the crossover wiring to existing
vehicle cabling.

TWEETER INSTALLATION
Review the Installation Precautions
section of this guide before proceeding.
5. Remove the tweeter grill, and the
remove the tweeter from the
surface mount housing using the
tweeter tool (turn CW). Insert the
proper length machine bolt through
the housing and connect to the
metal mounting bracket. (See
Figure 2.)
Flush Mounting into
Mounted Panels
Note:
Use either the standard mount
housing or the angled mount housing.
1. Determine the tweeter mounting
location, then route the wires from
the crossover to the tweeter location.
6. Connect the speaker wires
observing the correct polarity.
2. Mark the center point of the
tweeter location.
7. Press the metal bracket portion of
the assembly through the hole.
3. If using a hole saw, first drill a pilot
hole, then cut out the hole using a
standard 1-3/4" hole saw.
8. Screw the bolts in until the tweeter
housing is firmly mounted to the
panel.
4. If not using a hole saw, use either
the cardboard packaging for the
tweeters or the surface mount trim
ring as a template to mark the
proper size hole. Cut out the hole.
9. Insert the tweeter into the housing
and use the tweeter tool and rotate
the tweeter CCW till locked. Attach
the tweeter grill.

route the speaker wire from the
crossover through the grommet.
Note:
Use either the standard mount
housing or the angled mount housing.
5. After removing the surface mount
tweeter assembly, route the tweeter
wires through the larger hole in the
housing and connect to the speaker
wires from the crossover. (See
Figure 4.)
1. Determine the tweeter mounting
location, then route the wires from
the crossover to the tweeter loca-
tion.
2. Remove the tweeter grill, and the
remove the tweeter from the
surface mount housing using the
tweeter tool (turn CW). Place the
surface mount housing against the
panel and mark the two holes at the
rear of the housing.
6. Insert the excess speaker wire into
the hole and position the housing so
the housing will not pinch the wires
after final mounting.
7. Attach the housing using the
supplied screws of the correct length
for a solid mount.
3. Drill the smaller off-center holes
using a 1/8" drill bit. These are the
mounting screw holes.
8. Insert the tweeter into the housing
and use the tweeter tool and rotate
the tweeter CCW till locked. Attach
the tweeter grill.
4. Drill a larger center hole using a
3/8" drill bit, insert a grommet and
