3
HOW YOUR HEPA AIR CLEANER WORKS
Dirty, dust-laden air is drawn through the Air Intake Grill of the
unit where it first passes through the HEPA filter cartridge.
The HEPA media removes virtually all airborne particles passing
through it.
®
Additionally, the filter is treated with Microban antimicrobial
protection. This protects the filter by inhibiting the growth of
odor-causing bacteria and mold on the filter surface.
The air then passes through an activated carbon filter, which
helps to remove odors.
Finally the outlet air stream has a negative ion emitter which
further enhances the cleaning of the air through the electrostatic
precipitation of small airborne particles.
Clean air is not a luxury – It is a necessity!
FEATURES AND CONTROLS
1. Air Intake Grill – Air is drawn into the front/top
(depending on unit orientation) of the air cleaner.
2. Air Exit Grill – After the air has been cleaned, it is
dispersed into the surroundings through the outlet grill.
3. Negative Ion Source – A feature of the air cleaner is the
incorporation of a negative ion generator. Negative ions help
clean the air by electrostatic precipitation of small airborne

particles. If the unit is close to a wall and/or in a very polluted
area, some deposition of particles on objects surrounding
the Air Cleaner will occur and may accelerate the natural
darkening of the immediate environment. To avoid
discoloration of walls, move unit away from wall
or operate ionizer only as needed.
4. Function Switch – The units mode of operation is controlled
by a simple rotary switch. The user can select the unit to
have fan operation with or without ions being emitted.
This switch also turns the unit “off”.
4
5. Indicator Lights – Indicator lights tell the user when the unit
is on, (“Power” symbol), and when the unit's mode is set to
have ions emitted, (“Ions” symbol).
6. Filter Condition Monitor – When the ball, at high speed
setting, reaches the high end of the indicator scale, the filter
cartridge is loaded with particulate pollutants and needs
changing (LC0760 & LC1060).
7. Fan Control – The air-cleaning rate of the unit can be
controlled for maximum efficiency and convenience. The
two speed fan control is used to select the operating speed
of the fan. The unit is designed to run continuously at the
low speed setting. For extended motor life, it is recommend-
ed that the high speed setting be used only when necessary.
8. Filter Check Light (LC1460) – An electric switch senses the
condition of the filter cartridge and turns on an indicator light
if the filter cartridge needs to be changed.
PRE-OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
1. When removing the unit from the packing case, visually
check for shipping damage. Please contact both the shipper
and your dealer immediately if the unit bears any sign of
damage from mishandling. All Bionaire® units are carefully
inspected before leaving our factory.
2. KEEP SHIPPING CARTON AND PACKING for use in the
unlikely event that your Bionaire® unit needs servicing. If this
unit is shipped without the original packing, damage could
occur and void the warranty.

BEFORE OPERATING YOUR NEW Bionaire® Air Cleaner.
WARNING: Check the operating voltage shown on
the back of the unit. Do not operate at voltages other
than shown.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Remove the inlet grill, remove the HEPA filter cartridge and
the carbon filter and remove any plastic wrapping or panels
from them. Re-install the filters as per the section “Filter
Replacement”.
2. After re-installing the filters, choose a suitable location,
table top, shelf or wall (see wall-mount instructions)
ensuring that both the air intake and exit are not obstructed.
The air cleaner can be placed as a vertical “tall” unit, or
5
as a horizontal “low profile” unit, depending on your
personal preference.
3. Plug the power cord into a wall outlet.
4. Set the unit to the desired mode of operation, “Fan/On”
or “Fan/Ions”.
5. Select the desired fan speed (LC1060 & LC1460 “Low,”
“Med” or “High”) (LC0760 “Low” or “High”).
Low Airflow - For continuous, extra quiet filtration.
Medium Airflow - For continuous filtration.
High Airflow - For maximum, transient pollution filtration.
NOTE: Maximum filtration efficiency may not be reached
until after the first 48 hours of operation.
CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Be sure the unit is switched off and unplugged from the power
outlet.
PLASTIC HOUSING - A soft cloth and non-abrasive cleaner
may be used to remove any excessive dirt or fingerprints.
Treated like any other quality appliance, your Bionaire® unit
will retain its attractive appearance for many years.
ION EMITTER PINS - FIRST, TURN OFF AND UNPLUG THE
UNIT. Reach into the air exit grill with a cotton swab dipped into
alcohol to clean any dirt that may have accumulated on the pins.
Use caution when cleaning pins.
WARNING: Do not wash the HEPA filter cartridge or the
carbon filter. These are disposable items.
FILTER REPLACEMENT
To keep your unit operating at peak efficiency, the HEPA filter
cartridge should be replaced as needed or as indicated by the
Filter Condition Monitor (figure 2, LC0760 & LC1060). The HEPA
filter cartridge is designed with large media surface areas and
may last up to one year in typical operation. The rate at which
the filter clogs with particulates depends on the volume and
quality of air being filtered. If the unit is used continuously on
high in a room with a strong source of particulates, such as a
work shop, then the effective life of the filter will be reduced. In a
cleaner environment, operating mainly on lower speeds, the filter
will last longer. The carbon filter should be replaced regularly,
about every three months or when odor removal effectiveness
is noticeably reduced.
6
Filter Condition Evaluation
To test the condition of the filter cartridge, turn the unit on high
speed and observe the output airflow of the unit. When the filter
cartridge becomes clogged with particles there will be a notice-
able drop in air flow and the air output will no longer be steady.
Additionally, the indicator ball will be hovering in the upper region
of the flow meter (figure 2, LC0760 & LC1060).

THE ADDITIONAL BENEFIT OF NEGATIVE IONIZATION.
This Bionaire® model is a compact air cleaner offering the
benefits of negative ionization. Behind the outlet grill you will
notice two sharp pins pointing into the airstream. This is the
ionization source.
Responding to the challenge of improving the quality of indoor
air, Bionaire® introduced compact air cleaners to combine
the revolutionary HEPA filter system along with ion generators
producing millions of negative ions.
In order to maintain the ion output, the emitter pins should
be cleaned, as per the “Cleaning Instructions”, when an
accumulation of dust is noticed on the tips of the pins.
After extended use, dust may collect around the outlet panel.
This is due to the electrostatic precipitation process initiated
by the negative ions emerging from the unit. This dust does
not originate from the discharged air but is drawn out of the
uncleaned air going past the air outlet. It is additional evidence
of the air-cleaning effectiveness of negative ions. The dust is
easily removed by wiping the panel with a soft cloth.
WALL-MOUNTING
There are two keyhole slots on the back which allow
the unit to hang on two suitable screws inserted into a wall.
Select #8 Pan Head screws that are approximately
1" - 1 1/4" long that can be inserted into and retained by the
keyhole slots. Verify their suitability before fixing them in the wall
by sliding them into the keyhole slots.
Carefully mark the two hole locations horizontally on the
wall (distance between holes should be; 4.5 inches (11.4 cm).
Make sure that the screws are of correct length to give reliable
support. The use of wall plugs or expansion devices will be
needed for plaster board walls.
Drive screws into the wall leaving a gap of 3/8 inch (9.5 mm)
between the wall and the underside of the screw head.
Hold the air cleaner against the wall, insert the screw heads
into the keyhole slots, carefully lower the unit to fully engage the
8
screw heads into the slots. Adjust height of the screw head as
required to suit the wall’s contours.
