You can configure your unit us ing a cutting
head for gras s and light weeds , or a weed
blade forcuttinggras s , weeds ,and brus hup
to1/2inchindiameter.Toas s emble yourunit,

and follow the ins tructions .

ATTACHING THE HANDLEBAR
DANGER:Thebarrierportionofthehandlebar
mus tbeins talledas s howntoprovide abarrier
between operator and the s pinning blade.
S Locate the decalonthe handlebar.This de-
cal includes two arrows . Pos ition the han-
dlebar with the mounting bracketbetween
thes e arrows .
S Pos itionthebracketcoveroverthehandle-
bar. Again make s ure the handlebar is be-
tween the arrows .

AND TRIMMER HEAD

and others and is equipped with a line limiter

s ure the handlebar is ins talled correctly;
then,tighteneach s crews ecurely withthe
s hort hex wrench.

while tightening trimmer head.

bottom of the s hield. Thread them into the
gearbox.Tightenevenlyands ecurelywith
one of the hex wrenches provided.
S While holding the s crewdriver in pos ition,
thread trimmer head onto the s haft in the
direction s hown on the decal. Tightenuntil
s ecure.
NOTE: The retaining was her mus t be pos i-

gearbox.

us ed with the blade. The forward top of the
metal s hield helps toreduce the occurrence

S Turn blade by hand. If the blade binds
agains tthe s hield,orappears tobeuneven,
the blade is notcentered, andyou mus tre-
ins tall.

into aligned holes . Un-thread the nut andre-
moveparts .Bes uretos toreparts andins truc-
tions for future us e.
S Pull s tarter rope handle no more than 6
pulls , until engine runs .
S Allowengine torun10s econds ,thenmove
choke lever to OFF CHOKE pos ition.
RESTARTING A WARM ENGINE

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR
USE WITH TRIMMER HEAD
Beforetrimming,bringengine toa s peeds uffi-
cient to cut material to be trimmed.
Donotrunengineatahighers peedthanneces -
s ary.Thecuttinglinewillcutefficientlywhenthe
engine is runat les s than fullthrottle. Atlower
s peeds ,thereisles senginenois eandvibration.
The cuttingline will las tlonger andwill be les s
likely to “weld” onto the s pool.
Iftrimmerheaddoes notturnwhentheengineis
in operation, make s ure the tube is properly
s eated in engine s hroud.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR
USE WITH WEED BLADE
S Blade Thrus t is a reactionthat onlyoccurs
whenus inga bladedunit.This reactioncan
caus e s erious injury s uch as amputation.

howyoucanreducethechanceofits occur-
ring,andhowyoucanremainincontrolofunit
if blade thrus t occurs .
S WHATCAUSES BLADETHRUST - Blade
Thrus t canoccur whenthe s pinningblade
contacts anobjectthatit does not cut.This
contactcaus es thebladetos topforanins tant
and then s uddenly move or “thrus t” away
fromtheobjectthatwashit.The“thrus ting”re-
actioncanbeviolentenoughtocaus etheop-
eratortobepropelledinanydirectionandlos e
controloftheunit.Theuncontrolledunitcan
caus es erious injuryifthebladecontacts the
operator or others .
S WHEN BLADE THRUST OCCURS -
Blade thrus t can occur without warning if
the blade s nags , s talls , or binds . This is
more likelytooccurinareas where itis diffi-
cult to s ee the material beingcut. Byus ing
the unit properly, the occurrence of blade
thrus t will be reduced andthe operatorwill
be les s likely to los e control.
Always releas e the throttle trigger and allow
the engine to return to idle s peed when not
cutting.
To s top engine:
S Move the s witch to STOP.
S If engine does not s top, move choke to
the FULL CHOKE pos ition.
ADVANCING THE TRIMMER LINE
Trimmerlinewilladvanceapproximately2in.(5
cm)eachtimethebottomofthetrimmerheadis
tappedonthegroundwiththeenginerunningat
full throttle.
The mos tefficientline lengthis the maximum
length allowed by line limiter.
Always keepthe s hieldin place when the tool
is being operated.
To Advance Line:
S Operate the engine at full throttle.
S Holdthe trimmerheadparalleltoandabove
the gras s y area.
S Tap bottom of trimmer head lightly on the
groundone time.Approximately2in.(5cm)
of line will be advanced with each tap. A
S Cutonlygras s ,weeds ,andwoodybrus hup
to1/2inch indiameter withthe weedblade.
Do notlet the blade contactmaterial itcan-
not cut s uch as s tumps , rocks , fences ,
metal,etc.,orclus ters ofhard,woodybrus h
having a diameter greater than 1/2 inch.

S Keep the blade s harp. A dull blade is more
likely to s nag and thrus t.
REPLACING THE LINE
S Pus handholdthe engine s tops witch inthe
s top/off pos ition until the unit has fully
s topped.
S Cut only at full throttle. The blade will have
maximumcuttingpowerandis les s likelyto
bind or s tall.
S Dis connect the s park plug lead wire.
S Remove the s pool by firmly pulling on the
tap button.
S “Feed” the blade deliberately and not too
rapidly.The blade canthrus tawayifit is fed
too rapidly.
S Clean entire s urface of hub and s pool.
S Replace witha pre-wounds pool,orcuttwo
lengths of12-1/2feetof.080”(2mm)diam-
eterWeedEaterbrandline.Neverus ewire,
rope, s tring, etc., which can break off and
become a dangerous mis s ile.
S Cutonlyfrom yourright toyour left.Swing-
ing the unit in the s ame direction as the
blade s pins increas es the cutting action.
S Us e the s houlders trapandkeepa firmgrip
on the unit with both hands .A properlyad-
jus ted s houlder s trap will s upport the
weight of the unit, freeing your arms and
hands to control and guide the cuttingmo-
tion.
S Ins ertends ofline about1/2inch(1cm)into
the s mall hole ins ide s pool.

Bring the engine to cutting s peed before en-
tering the material to be cut.
If the blade does not turnwhen yous queeze
the throttle trigger, make s ure tube is fullyin-
s erted into the engine.

Hub
Always releas e the throttle trigger and allow
engine to return to idle s peed when not cut-
ting. The blade s hould not turn while the en-
gine is runningatidle.Ifthe blade turns atidle,
do not us e yourunit. Referto the Carburetor
adjus tment s ection or contact your Autho-
rized Service Dealer.
S Maintain good firm footing while us ing the
unit.Dothis byplantingfeet firmlyin a com-
fortable apart pos ition.
S Cut while s winging the upper part of your
body from right to left.
S Wind the line evenly and tightly onto the
s pool. Wind in the direction of the arrows
found on the s pool.
S Pus hthe line intothe notches ,leaving3to5
inches (7 - 12 cm) unwound.
S Ins ert the line into the the exit holes in the
hub as s hown in the illus tration.
S Align notches with the line exit holes .
S Pus h the s pool into the hub until it s naps
into place.
S Pull the line extendingouts ide ofthe hubto
releas e it from the notch.
S As youmoveforwardtothe nextarea tocut,
be s ure tomaintain yourbalance andfoot-
ing.

CARBURETOR ADJ USTMENT
Yourcarburetoris equippedwithlimitercaps .
Damage willoccurifyouturnthe needles be-
yondthelimitercaps .Adjus tingthecarburetoris

takeyourunittoanAuthorizedServiceDealer.

Replace s park plug yearly with a Champion
RCJ -8Y plug. Spark plug gap is .025 in.
IGNITION TIMING
Ignition timing is fixed, non-adjus table.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Engine will not start.
S Fuel tank empty.
