RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES  
To change or insert a rechargeable battery:  
1 Slide the cover towards the bottom and then lift it up.  
2 Insert the batteries respecting the (+ and -) polarity.  
3 Replace the battery cover.

ASSOCIATING THE HANDSET  
The  
icon and the text "NOT SUB" flashes on the display when the handset is not  
associated to the base. You have to associate a handset to a base, before you can use  
it.  
ASSOCIATION TO THE BUTLER 700 BASE  
You have just bought an extra handset, and you wish to use it on the base of your  
telephone Butler 700.  
The base can support a maximum of 5 handsets. If you already have 5 handsets, and  
you wish to change one of them, you must firstly delete a handset, then associate the  
new handset.  
1 Put the base into "association" mode, by pressing and holding the key  
on the right side of the base for 4 seconds.  
2 The base will then emit a bleep. It is now ready to be associated with  
a new handset, during the 90 seconds after pressing the button.  
3 Enter the menu by pressing  
.
4 Select REGISTER.  
5 Press  
.
6 Enter the base number for this handset, ( from 1 to 4 ). The flashing  
numbers are the numbers already used for other bases.  
7 Press  
.
8 Enter the confidential code for the Butler 700 base (0000 by default ).  
9 If the handset has located the base, it will display the base  
identification number. Validate the base association by pressing  
or invalidate by pressing  
.
10 If the handset does not locate the base, it will return to the previous  
configuration after a few seconds. Try again by changing the base  
number and check that you are not in an environment where there is  
interference.  
ASSOCIATION TO THE TOPCOM FREEPORT BASE  
1 Put the Freeport base into "association" mode, by removing and  
reconnecting the adapter from your Freeport.  
2 The antenna LED blinks on the Freeport base. You now have 5  
minutes to associate the handset.  
3 Enter the menu of the Butler 700C by pressing  
.
4 Select REGISTER.  
5 Press

6 Enter the base number for this handset, ( from 1 to 4 ). The flashing  
numbers are the numbers already used for other bases.

9 If the handset has located the base, it will display the base  
identification number. Validate the base association by pressing  
or invalidate by pressing

number and check if you are not in an environment where there is  
interference.  
ASSOCIATION TO ANOTHER DECT BASE  
The DECT base has to be GAP compatible, otherwise you will not be able to associate  
the Butler 700C handset to this base.  
1 Put the base in association mode. Refer to the user manual of your  
DECT base.  
2 When the DECT base is in association mode, enter the menu of your  
Butler 700C by pressing  
.
3 Select REGISTER.  
4 Press  
.
5 Enter the base number for this handset, ( from 1 to 4 ). The flashing  
numbers are the numbers already used for other bases.  
6 Press

7 Enter the confidential code for the DECT base. (Check the manual of  
the DECT base)  
8 When the handset has located the base, it will display the base  
identification number. Validate the base association by pressing  
or invalidate by pressing

USING THE BUTLER 700C HANDSET  
ATTENTION : How to use the handset depends on the base to which the handset has  
been associated. Some of the below mentioned functions will not be available because  
the are not supported by the DECT base. Especially the functions ‘identification caller’  
and ‘missed calls list’ strongly depend on the base station. The following functions are  
for the handset that has been associated to the Topcom Butler 700 base.  
ACTIVATE/DEACTIVATE THE HANDSET  
To save the rechargeable batteries of the handset, you can deactivate the handset by  
pressing and holding the  
key for 1 second. Follow the same procedure to activate  
the handset. If you put the deactivated handset on the base station, it will be activated  
again automatically.  
When the handset is deactivated :  
-the display is empty.  
-the handset can no longer receive calls  
-the batteries are not being discharged.  
RECEIVING A CALL  
When the handset rings, press  
to answer. You are then connected to your  
correspondent. If the handset is lying on the base when the telephone starts to ring, you  
just need to pick up the handset and you are immediately connected to the line. You do  
not need to press any button.  
When you press

when the telephone rings, the handset automatically changes to  
MAKING AN EXTERNAL CALL  
NORMAL NUMERATION :  
1 Press

2 Enter your correspondent’s number.  
PRENUMERATION :  
Prenumeration allows you to correct a number as you dial using the

HANDSFREE MODE  
You can converse with your correspondent without picking up the handset.  
To activate or deactivate the handsfree mode, press the key during a call.  
To adjust the volume, refer to the chapter “Adjusting speaker volume”.  
CALLING FROM THE ADDRESS BOOK  
To call a correspondent whose name you have saved in the address book :  
1 Press  
to enter the address book.  
2 Press the first letter of the name, the first name which starts with this  
letter or the nearest letter in the alphabet appears.  
3 Go through the list of names with the  
and  
keys. The  
list scrolls down in an alphabetical order.  
4 Press

To read the name before dialling, carry out steps 1 to 3 as mentioned above and press  
to dial the number of the correspondent whose name is  
. The number appears and you can modify it before dialling, using the

RECALL THE LAST 10 NUMBERS CALLED  
Your telephone saves the 10 last calls you have made in the memory.  
The correspondents called are identified by their telephone number or by their name if  
they appear in the address book.  
To consult this list:

DISPLAY OF CALL DURATION  
The communication duration is displayed after 20 seconds, in minutes - seconds, : “00-  
20”  
If you press a key (0 - 9 ) during the conversation, the communication duration is reset  
to zero and reappears after 20 seconds. At the end of each call, the duration of  
communication is displayed for 5 seconds.  
INTERNAL CALL TRANSFER  
When you wish to transfer an external call to another extension :

1 Press  
during a conversation.  
2 Select the number of the internal correspondent that you wish to call,  
the external caller is put on hold.  
3 When the internal correspondent picks up, press  
to hang up and  
transfer the call.  
If the internal corespondent does not pick-up, press  
again to reconnect to the  
external caller.  
THREE WAY CONVERSATION  
You can converse simultaneously with an internal correspondent and an external  
correspondent.  
When you are on line with an external correspondent :  
1 Press

2 Select the number of the internal correspondent that you wish to call.  
3 When the internal correspondent answers, press and hold  
.
4 If the internal correspondent does not answer, press  
again to  
reconnect to the external correspondent on-line.  
USING THE ALPHANUMERICAL KEYPAD  
You can use the alphanumerical keypad to write text as well as figures. This is useful for  
entering a name into the address book, giving a name to a handset, …  
To select a letter, press the corresponding key as many times as necessary. For  
example to select an A, press 2 once, to select a B, press 2 twice and so on. To select  
A and then B consecutively, select an A, wait until the cursor moves on to the next  
character, then select a B.  
To select an empty space, press 1.  
To select a dash, press 1 twice

USING THE MENU  
A wide range of telephone functions are accessible through a user friendly menu.  
1 To enter the menu, press

arrow on the right of the display indicates that there are other possible  
selections to scroll through.

CALLER IDENTIFICATION  
Caller identification is only available if you have a subscription to this service. You can  
obtain this subscription from your telephone operator.  
When you receive an external call, the caller’s identity will appear on the display as the  
telephone rings.  
You can therefore choose whether or not to answer the call.  
If the network allows it, or if the name of the caller has been entered in the address  
book, the caller is identified by his or her name. When the caller’s name is displayed,  
press  
to display his or her telephone number.  
If he wants, the caller can hide his identity by calling a special number.  
The caller’s identity is replaced by the conversation duration after 20 seconds of  
communication. It is still possible to display the caller’s identity after this time by  
pressing  
repeatedly for the name and number. If the number does not appear in  
the address book the operation " ADD " appears.  
LIST OF MISSED CALLS  
In your absence, your telephone keeps a list in memory of the last 10 calls received that  
were not answered. The list is called « missed calls list ».  
This function, like caller identification, is only available if your subscription to the  
telephone operator allows it. The correspondents that have called, are identified by their  
telephone number or name in the same way as in caller identification.  
The presence of new and unanswered calls received is indicated by the flashing of a  
green light indicator on the base. The indicator flashes as many times as there are new  
calls. The  
icon flashes on the display.  
To consult the list of missed calls :  
1 Press  
2 Scroll through the calls using the up  
3 If you press , the telephone number and the number of calls  
received from this caller appear on the display. Press the key  
again and you will see the time and date of the last call received.

4 Pressing  
again will give you the option to put the telephone  
number in the address book or to erase it from the address book  
(press the down arrow).  
5 If you wish to enter the number in the address book, you will be asked  
to enter the name.  
Note : when the number has already been entered in the address  
book, you will see the name of the caller and you can only delete it  
from the address book, not add it.  
6 Press  
to confirm or  
to return to the previous menu.  
7 To call back a correspondent, simply press the  
key when the  
telephone number and name are displayed.  
Remark :  
A beeping sound indicates the end or the beginning of the list.  
ADDRESS BOOK  
The address book allows you to memorise the names and the telephone numbers of 50  
correspondents. You can enter names of up to 8 characters length and numbers of up  
to 20 figures length.  
To call a correspondent whose number you have memorised, refer to the section  
calling directly from address book”.  
To enter alphanumerical characters, refer to the section using the alphanumerical  
keypad”.  
ADDING A NAME  
1 Enter the menu by pressing

MODIFY A NAME OR NUMBER  
In order to modify a name or number in the address book:

SECRET MODE ( TEMPORARY DEACTIVATION OF THE MICROPHONE )  
It is possible to put an external correspondent on hold during a conversation.  
Press  
during the conversation, the microphone is then deactivated, the external  
correspondent is put on hold, you can talk freely without being heard by the  
correspondent.  
Press  
again to return to normal mode.  
LOCKING THE KEYPAD  
Locking the keypad prevents you from dialling a number accidentally. This can be useful  
when there are small children.  
When the keypad is locked, only the  
key is available, all the other keys are locked.

USE WITH THE TOPCOM FREEPORT  
First of all, associate the handset to the Freeport base as described earlier in this  
manual.  
As soon as the association is completed, the handset automatically receives an internal  
number.  
To know this internal number :  
1 Press *468# (*INT#).  
2 Press the  
key.  
3 The internal number of the handset to the Freeport base appears on  
the display.  
4 Press the  
key to end the connection.  
For the operation of the other functions, check the manual of the Freeport base.  
Remarks :  
An internal call : Press #, followed by the internal handset number and press the  
key to start the internal communication. For example : #21  
to call handset 21.  
Assigning an MSN number and call restrictions of the handset, have to be done via  
de PC software.
