Cleaning Instructions
Your automatic hot tea maker
be cleaned when you begin to notice excessive
steaming or the steeping time increases considerably. This condition is caused by a
buildup of lime and mineral deposits from your water. If the pumping action stops before
all the water has been pumped out of the machine, then the appliance requires cleaning.
The frequency of cleaning depends on the hardness of water used. The following table
gives the suggested cleaning intervals.
Using Vinegar:
1. Pour 15 ounces of undiluted white household vinegar into your automatic hot tea
maker. Do not exceed 15 ounces.
2. Place a 4 CUP paper filter (JR100 or JR100NB) into the filter basket and swing
the filter basket into place. You may also use a Mr.
filter model number GTFJR.
permanent
3. Plug the power cord into an outlet. Place the empty ceramic tea pot on the warming
plate and turn the automatic hot tea maker ON. When half the vinegar has flowed
through, turn the automatic hot tea maker OFF and let stand for l/2 hour.
4. After l/2 hour, pour the vinegar back into the automatic hot tea maker.
5. Place the empty ceramic tea pot on the warming plate. Turn the automatic hot tea
maker ON and let all of the vinegar flow through.
6. Discard the vinegar and the paper filter.
7. To flush out all traces of vinegar, pour a ceramic tea pot full of tap water into the
automatic hot tea maker, turn it ON, and allow it all to cycle through.
8. Discard the water and turn the automatic hot tea maker OFF. Repeat steps 7 and 8.
Ceramic Tea Pot Cleaning
Hard water can leave a whitish mineral deposit inside the ceramic tea pot. Tea discolors
these deposits, sometimes leaving a brownish stain inside the ceramic tea pot. To
remove mineral scale, follow these simple steps:
1.
Use
a
solution of equal pans white vinegar and hot water.
2. Let solution stand in ceramic tea pot for about 20 minutes and then discard.
3. Wash and rinse the ceramic tea pot thoroughly using a soft cloth. Do not use harsh
abrasive cleaners. These will cause scratches which can lead to breakage.
To remove tea stains:
1. Place l-2 Tablespoons of liquid or granular dishwasher detergent in the
ceramic tea pot. Fill ceramic tea pot to rim with warm or hot water.
2. Let solution sit 20 minutes or until stubborn stains are removed. Repeat if
necessary.
3. Wash and rinse the ceramic tea pot thoroughly using a soft cloth. Do not use
harsh abrasive cleaners. These will cause scratches which can lead to breakage.
