The VAIO® BX Series Notebook features the unique and powerful Multi-Function Bay, enabling simple
swapping out of powerful peripherals such as a DVD RW Double Layer Bay Unit5, CD-RW/DVD-ROM
Drive Bay Unit, 80GB9 HDD Bay Unit (5400rpm SATA), Weight Saver Bay Unit, and an HDD Adapter
Bay Unit. Each of these optional peripherals is compatible with all three size configurations of the BX
Series Notebook, making efficient resource allocation across your team a logical and natural part of your
technology management.
MOBILITY AND COMMUNICATION FOR YOUR BUSINESS.
The VAIO® BX Series Notebooks are designed with mobility in mind. Integrated Bluetooth® technology3
and optional Intel® Centrino™ Mobile Technology means all BX Series Notebooks feature integrated
802.11b/g wireless LAN2, and efficient power and application management, which provide extended
battery life6 when you’re on the go. VAIO® BX Series Notebooks also offer communication technology
to keep you wirelessly connected, networked and conferenced in. With Gigabit Ethernet, optional
Bluetooth® headset, and an optional built-in camera for real-time video conferencing (video conferencing
software needs to be obtained separately)16, you can communicate in whatever style makes you the most
productive.
The VGN-BX540B offers integrated Wireless Wide Area Network (WAN)17 for access to the Cingular
Wireless National EDGE Network using SmartWi™ technology. Sony’s SmartWi™ technology (the
mergence of wireless WAN17, wireless LAN2 and Bluetooth®3 technologies) enables seamless, automatic
toggling between connectivity modes.
The Sony VAIO BX Series Notebook has been tested in accordance with criteria set by Cisco and is
compatible with Cisco’s Aironet 1200AG Series Access Point platform and Cisco’s Access Control Server
v3.3.14
SECURITY FOR YOUR BUSINESS.
Security is a top priority with the VAIO® BX Series Notebook. All BX Series Notebooks feature an
integrated biometrics fingerprint sensor, delivering personal security and the IT cost-savings and
convenience of not having to remember your passwords. The Trusted Platform Module (TPM) chip is
compliant with TCG v1.1b, enabling companies to set the level of security on a specific client/user basis.
Data can be encrypted over the local network, within the system, and over the Internet, giving you the
ability with a single platform to dial in the specific level of client security required.

Series and the Cisco Access Control Server v3.3. Cisco Compatible signifies that Sony’s product has
undergone interoperability testing by Sony, together with Cisco and a third-party test house, based on
testing criteria set by Cisco. Sony is solely responsible for the support and warranty of its product.

The Microsoft Office 2003 60-day trial software is intended for evaluation purposes only. This trial

access. This software has an expiration date of 60 days from date of first use, at which time the
software will operate under reduced-functionality mode, limiting end-user options and operations.
