2 Verwendungszweck

Das Soundfield System EMP 2015 ist eine hochwertige Kombination aus

Mikrofon, Taschensender und Verstärker mit integriertem Empfangsteil. Eine

zuverlässige Tonübertragung in hoher Klangqualität wird durch den Einsatz

moderner PLL- und Mikroprozessortechnik in Kombination mit dem Rausch-

unterdrückungsverfahren HDX und moderner Verstärkertechnik erreicht.

Das umfangreiche Zubehörangebot ermöglicht es Ihnen, das Soundfield

System optimal auf den individuellen Einsatz abzustimmen.

3 Sicherheitshinweise

Öffnen Sie niemals ein Gerät. Arbeiten an stromführenden Teilen müssen

immer vom Fachmann ausgeführt werden. Für Geräte, die eigenmächtig vom

Kunden geöffnet wurden, erlischt die Gewährleistung.

Trennen Sie immer die Verbindung zum Stromnetz, wenn Sie Leitungen um-

stecken oder das Gerät an einen anderen Platz stellen wollen.

Halten Sie Abstand zu Heizungen und Heizstrahlern, stellen Sie das Gerät

nie direkt in die Sonne.

Um eine ausreichende Belüftung des Geräts zu ermöglichen, dürfen Sie die

seitlichen Bohrungen nicht abdecken.

Benutzen Sie diese Anlage nur in trockenen Räumen.

Zur Reinigung genügt es völlig, das Gerät gelegentlich mit einem leicht feuch-

ten Tuch abzuwischen. Verwenden Sie bitte auf keinen Fall Löse- oder Reini-

gungsmittel.

Stellen Sie die Lautstärke nicht zu laut ein! Die dauerhafte Einwirkung ho-

her Schallpegel auf das Gehör kann bleibende Hörschäden verursachen.

Die Lautsprecherkabel dürfen Sie nicht mit Masse verbinden. Achten Sie

zudem darauf, dass die Lautsprecherkabel nie mit anderen Kabeln oder

Metallgehäuseteilen in Berührung kommen. Dies kann zu Kurzschlüssen

und u. U. zur Zerstörung des Lautsprechers führen.

6 Inbetriebnahme

Verstärker

Aufstellungsort

Das System verfügt über eine temperaturgesteuerte Belüftung. Bitte achten

Sie darauf, dass die Löcher in den Seitenteilen nicht abgedeckt sind, um eine

ungehinderte Belüftung zu ermöglichen. Eine integrierte Temperatur-

überwachung schützt das Gerät vor Überhitzung. Es schaltet den Verstärker

bei zu hohen Temperaturen ab und nach dem Abkühlen automatisch wieder

ein.

Antenne und Stromversorgung anschließen

Antenne

Ǡ Stecken Sie die mitgelieferte Teleskopantenne in die BNC-Buchse ƽ an

der Geräterückseite und verriegeln Sie den Bajonettverschluss.

Ǡ Ziehen Sie die Teleskopantenne aus und richten Sie sie aus.

Hinweis:

Um optimalen Empfang zu haben, sollten Sie die Antennen des Senders und

des Empfangsteils senkrecht ausrichten.

Stromversorgung

Ǡ Stecken Sie das Netzkabel in die Buchse ƾ an der Rückseite des Verstär-

kers.

Taschensender SK 500

Batterie einsetzen und wechseln

ቯ

Ǡ Schieben Sie die Abdeckung des Batteriefaches ቤ in Richtung des aufge-

prägten Pfeiles bis es hörbar rastet.

Ǡ Klappen Sie die Abdeckung auf.

Ǡ Schieben Sie die Blockbatterie (Typ 6 LR 61, 9 Volt) ein. Achten Sie auf

die Polarität.

Ǡ Schließen Sie das Batteriefach.

Ǡ Um die Batterie zu entnehmen, müssen Sie den roten Hebel ቯ in Rich-

tung Geräteunterseite drücken.

Hinweis:

Mit Batterien beträgt die Betriebszeit ca. 6 Stunden, mit Akkus ca. 4 Stun-

den. Verwenden Sie für optimalen Akkubetrieb Akkus des Typs NiMH

(9,6 V / 160 mAh).

Antenne einschrauben

Ǡ Schrauben Sie die Antenne ቢ in die Antennenbuchse (M3-Anschluss).

Mikrofon an Sender anschließen

Ǡ Stecken Sie den 3,5-mm-Klinkenstecker ተ des Mikrofonkabels in die

Klinkenbuchse (MIC / LINE) ቧ.

Ǡ Verriegeln Sie den Klinkenstecker, indem Sie den Gewindering ꢀ ein-

schrauben.

Sender an der Kleidung befestigen

Mit dem Ansteckclip ቲ lässt sich der Sender SK 500 z. B. am Gürtel einhängen.

Sie können den Sender auch so an der Kleidung befestigen, dass die Anten-

ne nach unten zeigt. Dazu nehmen Sie den Ansteckclip heraus und setzen

ihn um 180° gedreht wieder ein.

Mikrofon ME 3

Legen Sie das Headset ME 3 so am Kopf an, dass es bequem und sicher

sitzt.

Mikrofon ausrichten

Das Mikrofon ME3 ist ein Richtmikrofon und muss so ausgerichtet werden,

dass die Einsprache ᕡ, die mit einem Punkt gekennzeichnet ist, in Richtung

Mund zeigt.

Basissystem aufbauen

Das Basissystem umfasst den Verstärker EMP 2015, einen Taschensender

SK 500, ein Mikrofon und Lautsprecher:

Lautsprecher im Raum aufstellen

Mit dem Soundfield System soll ein möglichst gleichmäßiges Schallfeld im

gesamten Raum erzeugt werden. Die Stimme des Sprechers soll nicht lauter

als normal wiedergegeben werden, sondern überall im Raum gleich gut zu

hören sein.

Um ein gleichmäßiges Schallfeld zu erzeugen, benötigen Sie mindestens

mehrere Lautsprecher zur Wandmontage oder zur Deckenmontage.

Stellen Sie die Lautsprecher nicht genau einander gegenüber auf, so dass sie

sich gegenseitig „anschauen“. Diese Anordnung würde zu Auslöschungen im

Schallfeld und damit zu einer ungleichmäßigen Lautstärke im Raum führen.

Lautsprecher anschließen

Der Verstärker verfügt über vier unabhängige Endstufen. Sie können an das

Soundfield System EMP 2015 bis zu 8 Lautsprecher anschließen.

Bei einem System mit bis zu 8 Lautsprechern muss die Impedanz der

einzelnen Lautsprecher zwischen 4 und 8 Ohm liegen. Die Impuls-

spitzenleistung muss mindestens 30 W betragen.

Wenn Sie mehr als einen Lautsprecher verwenden, müssen Sie darauf ach-

ten, dass die einzelnen Lautsprecher die gleiche Polung (+/–) haben.

Kurzschlussgefahr!

Die Lautsprecherkabel dürfen Sie nicht mit Masse verbinden. Achten

Sie zudem darauf, dass die Lautsprecherkabel nie mit anderen Kabeln

oder Metallgehäuseteilen in Berührung kommen. Die Enden der

Lautsprecherkabel dürfen sich auch untereinander im Betrieb nie be-

rühren. Dies kann zu Kurzschlüssen und u. U. zur Zerstörung des Laut-

sprechers führen.

Ǡ Schließen Sie an jeden Lautsprecher ein Lautsprecherkabel an.

Ǡ Führen Sie die Lautsprecherkabel einzeln zum Verstärker. Eine Reihen-

schaltung von mehreren Lautsprechern führt aufgrund der geringen Im-

pedanz zu Leistungsverlusten auf der Leitung.

Ǡ Schließen Sie an jeden Lautsprecherausgang ƺ einen Lautsprecher an.

Soundfield System ein- und ausschalten

Verstärker ein-/ausschalten

Der Verstärker hat sowohl einen Netzschalter ƿ als auch einen Betriebs-

schalter ᕡ. Der Netzschalter trennt den Verstärker vom Netz und kann im-

mer eingeschaltet bleiben.

Ǡ Schalten Sie den Verstärker nur bei der Inbetriebnahme über den Netz-

schalter ƿ ein und lassen Sie ihn danach in der Position „I“.

Ǡ Schalten Sie den Verstärker im normalen Betrieb nur über den Betriebs-

schalter ᕡ ein- bzw. aus.

Ǡ Nur um den Verstärker vom Netz zu trennen, müssen Sie den Netzschalter

in die Position ‚0‘ schalten.

Empfangsteil ein-/ausschalten

Der Empfangsteil hat einen separaten Ein-/Ausschalter ᕥ, der immer einge-

schaltet bleiben kann.

Lautstärke des Mikrofons einstellen

Stellen Sie den Lautstärkesteller MICROPHONE ᕣ auf ‚0‘, bevor Sie den

Verstärker einschalten. Regeln Sie nach dem Einschalten die Lautstärke ein.

Lautstärke angeschlossener Wiedergabegeräte einstellen

Stellen Sie den Lautstärkesteller LINE IN ᕢ auf ‚0‘ bevor Sie den Verstär-

ker einschalten. Regeln Sie nach dem Einschalten die Lautstärke ein.

Hinweis:

Mit den beiden Lautstärkestellern ᕢ und ᕣ lassen sich die Mikrofon- und

die LINE IN-Signale für die Wiedergabe am Lautsprecherausgang mischen.

Sender ein-/ausschalten

Ǡ Schieben Sie die Abdeckung ቦ zurück.

Ǡ Drücken Sie die Taste ON / OFF ቪ, um den Sender einzuschalten. Die

rote LED ባ leuchtet dann.

ቦ

Ǡ Um den Sender auszuschalten, müssen Sie die Taste ON / OFF erneut

drücken und gedrückt halten, bis im Display der Schriftzug „OFF“ er-

scheint. Dann können Sie die Taste loslassen. Die rote LED ባ erlischt.

Sender stummschalten

Mit dem Schiebeschalter MUTE ቨ können Sie den Sender stummschalten.

Der Sender bleibt in Betrieb, lediglich das Tonsignal wird abgeschaltet.

Der schnelle Einstieg in die Bedienung

Sender und Empfangsteil des Soundfield Systems sind werkseitig so vorein-

gestellt, dass Sie nach dem Aufbau der Anlage und der Inbetriebnahme der

Geräte sofort arbeiten können. Um jedoch immer eine gute Sprachwiedergabe

sicherzustellen, sollten Sie in jedem Fall die Mikrofonempfindlichkeit des

Senders richtig einstellen (ꢀ „Empfindlichkeit einstellen“).

Mit der Taste SET

– rufen Sie das Bedienmenü zur Eingabe der Werte auf,

– schalten Sie von einem Menüpunkt zum nächsten weiter,

– kehren Sie an den Menüanfang zurück.

Mit der Taste UP

– ändern Sie den Wert eines Menüpunktes.

– ändern Sie den Wert eines Menüpunktes.

Die rote Leuchtanzeige (LED) ባ und die Balkenanzeige im Display infor-

mieren Sie über den aktuellen Betriebszustand des Senders.

Die Balkenanzeige zeigt die Batterieleistung in drei Stufen an:

8 Segmente: Die Batterie ist voll

4 Segmente: Die Batterieleistung ist ausreichend

1 Segment: Die Batterieleistung ist erschöpft, sie reicht nur noch für kurze

Zeit

Hinweis:

Auch bei einer bereits benutzten Batterie können für kurze Zeit alle

8 Segmente angezeigt werden.

rote LED:

rote LED leuchtet:

Der Sender ist eingeschaltet, die Batterie-

leistung ist ausreichend.

rote LED beginnt zu blinken: Die Leistung reicht nur noch für kurze Zeit!

Die Batterie muss in Kürze ausgewechselt wer-

den, sie hat jetzt nur noch für wenige Minu-

ten Leistungsreserve!

Peak-Anzeige

Die gelbe Leuchtanzeige (LED) ቤ an der Oberseite des Senders SK 500

zeigt Ihnen an, wenn das Tonsignal am Mikrofon-/Line-Eingang ቧ zu hoch

ist (AF-Peak).

Hinweis:

Die Empfindlichkeit des Mikrofon-/Line-Eingangs ቧ können Sie über das

Bedienmenü anpassen (ꢀ „Empfindlichkeit einstellen“).

Audiogeräte anschließen

An den Verstärker können Sie zwei Mono- oder Stereo-Geräte anschließen.

Ǡ Stecken Sie die Cinch-Stecker der Audiogeräte in die Cinch-Buchsen

(LINE IN) ƻ auf der Rückseite des Verstärkers. Entnehmen Sie den

nebenstehenden Abbildungen, wie Sie die verschiedenen Audiogeräte an-

schließen müssen.

Hinweis:

Die Stereosignale werden im Verstärker zu einem Monosignal zusam-

mengeführt.

2 Mono-Wiedergabegeräte

Ǡ Stellen Sie die Stereo-Wiedergabegeräte, sofern möglich, auf „mono“ um.

Verwenden Sie bei Fernsehgeräten oder Videorekordern bei Ton-

problemen nur den linken Kanal.

Lautstärke des Audiogeräts einstellen

Die Lautstärke des angeschlossenen Wiedergabegeräts (z. B. eines Video-

rekorders) können Sie unabhängig von der Lautstärke des Sprechers einstel-

len. Wenn Sie an den Line-Eingang zwei Wiedergabegeräte angeschlossen

haben, stellen Sie mit dem Lautstärkesteller die Wiedergabelautstärke bei-

der Geräte gleichzeitig ein.

Ǡ Stellen Sie mit dem Lautstärkesteller (LINE IN) ᕢ die Wiedergabe-

lautstärke des angeschlossenen Geräts ein.

Hinweis:

Reduzieren Sie bei verzerrtem Ton die Empfindlichkeit des Systems mit

dem Regler µ. Wenn sich der Regler µ am linken Endanschlag befin-

det, ist das Audio-Signal unter Umständen nicht mehr zu hören.

Funk-Mikrofon-Anlagen für Hörgeschädigte anschließen

Sie können an jeden der beiden Line-Ausgänge (LINE OUT) Ƽ einen FM-

Sender einer Funk-Mikrofon-Anlage (FM-Anlage) eines beliebigen Herstel-

lers anschließen.

Dieser FM-Sender überträgt den Ton eines oder mehrerer Sprecher sowie

ggf. eines angeschlossenen Wiedergabegerätes an den FM-Empfänger des

Hörgeschädigten. Dadurch muss der Sprecher nicht mehrere Sender und

Mikrofone am Körper tragen, sondern nur den Sender und das Mikrofon

des Soundfield Systems. Außerdem wird durch das Soundfield System eine

gute Tonqualität sichergestellt.

Verstärker mit zwei

Funk-Mikrofon-Anlagen

Für den Anschluss eines FM-Senders benötigen Sie ein Kabel mit einem

Cinch-Stecker und einem 3,5-mm-Klinkenstecker (Einige FM-Sender haben

eine 2,5-mm-Klinkenbuchse).

Ǡ Schließen Sie den Cinch-Stecker des Kabels an eine der beiden Cinch-

Buchsen (LINE OUT) Ƽ auf der Rückseite des Verstärkers an.

Ǡ Schließen Sie den 3,5-mm-Klinkenstecker des Kabels an den Line-Ein-

gang des FM-Senders an.

Ausgangspegel für FM-Sender einstellen

Alle gängigen FM-Sender verfügen über einen Line- oder Audio-Eingang,

den Sie bevorzugt zum Anschluss des Senders verwenden sollten. Im Nor-

malfall sollten Sie den Regler für den Pegel des Line-Ausgangs (LINE OUT)

¸ auf den rechten Endanschlag drehen.

FM-Anlage testen

Bevor Sie eine FM-Anlage erstmalig verwenden, sollten Sie sie wie oben

beschrieben an das Soundfield System anschließen und über einen

Kontrollhörer testen, um eine einwandfreie Funktion sicherzustellen.

Klingt die Sprache verzerrt, müssen Sie den Pegel am Line-Ausgang reduzie-

ren, indem Sie den Regler ¸ nach links drehen.

7 Spezielle Anwendungen

System mit bis zu 8 Lautsprechern aufbauen

Sie können an das Soundfield System bis zu 8 Lautsprecher anschließen

indem Sie an jeden Lautsprecherausgang zwei Lautsprecher anschließen:

Mit dem Soundfield System soll ein möglichst gleichmäßiges Schallfeld er-

zeugt werden. Stellen Sie daher die Lautsprecher so auf, dass zwei Lautspre-

cher nicht genau gegenüber angebracht sind und sich gegenseitig „anschau-

en“. Diese Anordnung würde zu Auslöschungen im Schallfeld und damit zu

einem ungleichmäßig lauten Schallfeld führen.

Lautsprecher anschließen

Bei einem System mit bis zu 8 Lautsprechern muss die Impedanz der

Kurzschlussgefahr!

Die Lautsprecherkabel dürfen Sie nicht mit Masse verbinden. Achten

Sie zudem darauf, dass die Lautsprecherkabel nie mit anderen Kabeln

oder Metallgehäuseteilen in Berührung kommen. Die Enden der

Lautsprecherkabel dürfen sich auch untereinander im Betrieb nie be-

rühren. Dies kann zu Kurzschlüssen und u. U. zur Zerstörung des Laut-

sprechers führen.

Ǡ Schließen Sie an jeden Lautsprecher ein Lautsprecherkabel an.

Ǡ Führen Sie die Lautsprecherkabel einzeln zum Verstärker. Eine Reihen-

schaltung von mehreren Lautsprechern führt aufgrund der geringen Im-

pedanz zu Leistungsverlusten auf der Leitung.

Ǡ Schließen Sie an jeden Lautsprecherausgang ƺ zwei Lautsprecher an.

Aufnahmegeräte anschließen

Über die beiden Cinch-Buchsen (LINE OUT) Ƽ können Sie Aufnahmege-

räte (z. B. Kassettenrekorder, Diktiergerät usw.) an den Verstärker anschlie-

ßen. Das angeschlossene Gerät nimmt das gleiche Signal auf, das auch die

Lautsprecher im Raum wiedergeben. Schließen Sie das Aufnahmegerät nach

Möglichkeit über seinen Line-Eingang (LINE IN, REC. IN, AUX IN, TB

IN o. Ä.) an.

Ǡ Stecken Sie die Cinch-Stecker der Aufnahmegeräte in die Cinch-Buchsen

(LINE OUT) Ƽ auf der Rückseite des Verstärkers. Entnehmen Sie den

nebenstehenden Abbildungen, wie sie die verschiedenen Aufnahmegerä-

te anschließen müssen.

Aufnahmepegel einstellen

Der Aufnahmepegel ist unabhängig von der Einstellung der Lautstärke-

steller ᕢ und ᕣ. Er ist jedoch abhängig von der Einstellung des Reglers

(LINE IN) µ, der den Eingangspegel des angeschlossenen Wiedergabe-

geräts einstellt.

Sie können den Aufnahmepegel des Line-Ausgangs Ƽ im Bereich von 0 bis

700 mV_eff(entspricht —unendlich bis 0 dBU) einstellen.

1. Das Aufnahmegerät ist über seinen Line-Eingang (LINE IN, REC. IN,

AUX IN, TB IN o. Ä.) angeschlossen:

Ǡ Drehen Sie den Regler ¸ auf den rechten Endanschlag und steuern

Sie am Aufnahmegerät aus.

2. Das Aufnahmegerät ist über seinen Mikrofon-Eingang angeschlossen.

Ǡ Steuern Sie am Aufnahmegerät maximal aus und stellen Sie mit dem

Regler ¸ den Aufnahmepegel so ein, dass das Aufnahmegerät bei

lauten Passagen nicht übersteuert.

Hinweis:

Wenn sich der Regler ¸ am linken Endanschlag befindet, ist am Line-Aus-

gang Ƽ kein Signal mehr vorhanden.

Wenn Sie zwei Mono-Aufnahmegeräte angeschlossen haben, wirkt die Ein-

stellung des Aufnahmepegels auf beide Geräte gleichzeitig.

System mit mehreren Sendern aufbauen (Team-Teaching)

Es ist möglich, dass bis zu 3 Sprecher gleichzeitig in einem Raum über das

gleiche Soundfield System übertragen werden.

Der Sender 1 wird direkt vom Empfangsteil des Verstärkers empfangen. Für

die Sender 2 und 3 benötigen Sie je einen zusätzlichen Empfänger. Diese

können Sie über die Cinch-Buchsen ƻ des Line-Eingangs an den Verstärker

anschließen. Die Signale aller Sender sind dann über die Lautsprecher hör-

bar.

Um dieses System aufzubauen, benötigen Sie zusätzliche Taschensender

SK 500 und stationäre Empfänger EM 500 (ꢀ„Empfohlenes Zubehör“).

Empfänger anschließen

Für den Anschluss eines Empfängers EM 500 benötigen Sie ein Kabel mit

einem Cinch-Stecker und einem 6,3-mm-Klinkenstecker (ꢀ„Empfohlenes

Zubehör“).

Verstärker mit drei Sendern und zwei

zusätzlichen Empfängern

Ǡ Bereiten Sie die Inbetriebnahme des Empfängers so vor, wie es in dessen

beigefügter Bedienungsanleitung beschrieben ist.

Ǡ Schließen Sie das Kabel mit dem Cinch-Stecker an eine der beiden Cinch-

Buchsen (LINE IN) ƻ an.

Ǡ Schließen Sie das Kabel mit dem 6,3-mm-Klinkenstecker an der

6,3-mm-Klinkenbuchse des Empfängers an.

Ǡ Stellen Sie für jeweils ein Sender-Empfänger-Paar dieselbe Frequenz ein.

Hinweis:

Jedes Sender-Empfänger-Paar (Sendestrecke) benötigt eine eigene Frequenz.

Sie muss sich von den übrigen Sendestrecken im Raum unterscheiden. So-

wohl beim Sender und beim Empfänger des Soundfield Systems als auch bei

den zusätzlich benötigten Taschensendern SK 500 und Empfängern EM 500

können Sie die Frequenzen verändern und sie auf einem von 16 Fest-

speicherplätzen abspeichern (ꢀ„Vorgehen bei der Programmierung“).

Wiedergabelautstärke der angeschlossenen Empfänger einstellen

Ǡ Stellen Sie mit dem Lautstärkesteller (LINE IN) ᕢ die Wiedergabe-

lautstärke des angeschlossenen Empfängers ein.

Hinweis:

Wenn Sie am Line-Eingang zwei Empfänger angeschlossen haben, erfolgt

die Lautstärkeeinstellung für beide Empfänger gemeinsam.

Empfindlichkeit des Systems auf angeschlossene Empfänger einstellen

Ǡ Drehen Sie den Regler für den Pegel des Line-Eingangs (LINE IN) µ

auf den rechten Endanschlag.

Ǡ Stellen Sie am Empfänger EM 500 den Ausgangspegel so ein, wie es in

der Bedienungsanleitung des Empfängers beschrieben ist.

System mit 2 Sendern und einem Wiedergabegerät auf-

bauen

An die beiden Line-Eingänge (LINE IN) ƻ des Verstärkers können Sie auch

einen zusätzlichen Empfänger und ein externes Wiedergabegerät (z. B.

Videorekorder) anschließen. So entsteht ein System, bei dem zwei Sprecher

gleichzeitig übertragen werden können und zusätzlich noch Einspielungen

von einem Videorekorder o. Ä. gemacht werden können. Alle Signale wer-

den über die Raumlautsprecher im Raum hörbar. (Darüber hinaus ist es mög-

lich, an dieses System über die beiden Line-Ausgänge (LINE OUT) Ƽ Aufnah-

megeräte anzuschließen.)

8 Spezielle Einstellungen

Grundfunktionen des Sennheiser-Bedienmenüs

Beim Soundfield System können Sie an Sender und Empfangsteil alle Ein-

stellungen über die drei Tasten SET, ̆, ̄ vornehmen. Im jeweiligen Display

können Sie die Einstellungen verfolgen.

Wichtig:

Nach dem Einschalten können Sie mit den Tasten ̆/̄ zwischen den

voreingestellten Festspeicherplätzen umschalten. Die Anzeige blinkt.

Die Änderung wird sofort wirksam. Drücken Sie die Taste SET, um

Ihre Eingabe zu bestätigen. Das Blinken hört auf.

1. Mit der Taste SET gelangen Sie in das Bedienmenü:

Mit einem kurzen Druck wählen Sie den nächsten Menüpunkt an. Im

Display wird der angewählte Menüpunkt und anschließend der aktuelle

Wert des Menüpunktes angezeigt.

2. Mit den Tasten ̄ und ̆ werden die Einstellungen im jeweiligen

Menüpunkt vorgenommen:

Die geänderte Einstellung blinkt im Display. Wenn Sie den ursprüng-

lichen Wert wieder einstellen, hört das Blinken auf.

Wichtig:

Ihre Eingaben werden ohne weitere Bestätigung wirksam und

sind sofort gespeichert!

In den Menüpunkten „tunE und Ch no“ sind die Tasten ̆ und ̄ mit ei-

nem Schnell-Lauf („Repetieren“) ausgestattet. Wenn Sie die Taste kurz

drücken, wechselt die Anzeige zum nächsten bzw. vorherigen Wert. Wenn

Sie die Taste drücken und gedrückt halten, läuft der Wert weiter.

3. Mit der Taste SET gelangen Sie zum Menüanfang zurück:

Drücken Sie die Taste SET, um nach Abschluss der Eingabe zum Menü-

anfang zurückzukehren. Im Display erscheint wieder die Standardanzeige.

SenSit

Empfindlichkeit einstellen (nur Sender)

Ist die Mikrofonempfindlichkeit falsch eingestellt, kann die Stimme des Spre-

chers verzerrt oder verrauscht klingen. Verzerrungen treten auf, wenn die

Mikrofonempfindlichkeit zu hoch eingestellt ist. Gleichzeitig leuchtet beim

Sender die gelbe Peak-LED ቤ. Ist die Empfindlichkeit zu niedrig eingestellt,

klingt die Stimme verrauscht.

Sie müssen daher die Empfindlichkeit so einstellen, dass nur bei den laute-

sten Passagen die gelbe Audio-Peak-LED ቤ aufleuchtet.

Beim Einstellen der Empfindlichkeit können Sie von folgenden Richtwerten

ausgehen:

Mikrofon ME 3:

Mikrofone ME 2 und ME 4 (Zubehör) :

– 10 dB

0 dB

externe Tonquellen (z. B. CD-Player): – 30 / – 20 dB

Ǡ Wählen Sie mit der Taste SET den Menüpunkt „SEnSit“ an. Im Display

wird der Schriftzug „SEnSit“ und anschließend der aktuelle Wert der Ein-

gangsempfindlichkeit angezeigt.

Ǡ Mit den Tasten ̆/̄ können Sie nun die Eingangsempfindlichkeit in

10-dB-Schritten zwischen 0 und -30 dB verändern. Der eingestellte Wert

blinkt im Display und wird sofort übernommen.

Ǡ Drücken Sie die Taste SET, um an den Menüanfang zurückzukehren. Im

Display erscheint wieder die Standardanzeige.

SqELCH

Rauschsperrenschwelle einstellen (nur Empfangsteil)

Der Empfangsteil des Soundfield Systems EMP 2015 ist mit einer einstell-

baren Rauschsperrenschwelle ausgestattet, die verhindert, dass der Empfangs-

teil aufrauscht, wenn der Sender ausgeschaltet wird oder den Empfangs-

bereich verlässt.

Ǡ Um die Rauschsperrenschwelle einzustellen, müssen Sie mit der Taste

SET den Menüpunkt „SqELCH“ anwählen. Im Display wird der Schrift-

zug „SqELCH“ und anschließend die aktuelle Einstellung der Rausch-

sperrenschwelle angezeigt.

Ǡ Mit den Tasten ̆/̄ können Sie nun die Rauschsperrenschwelle einstel-

len. Sie können die Rauschsperrenschwelle ausschalten (0 dB) oder in

5-dB-Schritten einen Wert zwischen 5 dB und 40 dB einstellen. (Ein klei-

nerer Wert senkt die Rauschsperrenschwelle, ein größerer erhöht sie.)

Im Display blinkt der eingestellte Wert. Setzen Sie die Rauschsperren-

schwelle bei ausgeschaltetem Sender auf den niedrigsten Wert, den Sie

einstellen können, ohne dass der Empfangsteil aufrauscht. Ein hoher Wert

bewirkt zwar, dass der Empfangsteil unempfindlicher gegen Störungen

ist, sich aber gleichzeitig die Reichweite des Senders verringert.

Hinweis:

Ist die Rauschsperre ausgeschaltet (0 dB) und wird der Sender ausge-

schaltet, tritt dauerhaft ein lautes Rauschen auf.

Ǡ Drücken Sie die Taste SET, um an den Menüanfang zurückzukehren. Im

Display erscheint wieder die Standardanzeige.

DiSPL

Standardanzeige umschalten

Bei Sender und Empfangsteil können Sie die Standardanzeige zwischen Fre-

quenz (in MHz) und Kanalnummer umschalten.

Ǡ Drücken Sie die Taste SET zweimal, um den Menüpunkt „DiSPL“ anzu-

wählen. Im Display erscheint der Schriftzug „DiSPL“ und anschließend

die aktuelle Einstellung.

Ǡ Mit den Tasten ̆/̄ können Sie wechseln zwischen

Frequenz:

„FrEqu“

Kanalnummer: „ChAnnL“

Im Display blinkt die aktuelle Einstellung der Standardanzeige.

Festspeicherplätze programmieren

Sender und Empfangsteil des Soundfield Systems haben je 16 Festspeicherplätze.

Im Sender und Empfangsteil sind im Auslieferungszustand auf den 16 Fest-

speicherplätzen die Frequenzen so voreingestellt, dass sie sich gegenseitig

nicht stören. Sie könnten damit in einem Raum 16 Übertragungsstrecken

gleichzeitig benutzen.

Wenn Sie mehr als 16 Soundfield Systeme in benachbarten Klassenräumen

benutzen wollen, müssen diese einen Frequenzabstand von mindestens

400 kHz voneinander haben. In einem Frequenzband können Sie somit 80

Systeme betreiben, ohne Frequenzen doppelt verwenden zu müssen.

Hinweis:

Gängige FM-Systeme arbeiten im Gegensatz zum Soundfield System im

VHF-Bereich. Beide Systeme stören sich daher nicht gegenseitig.

Vorgehen bei der Programmierung

1. Festspeicherplatz auswählen

Ǡ Drücken Sie die Tasten ̆/̄, um einen voreingestellten Festspeicherplatz

auszuwählen. Die Anzeige blinkt. Die Änderung wird sofort wirksam.

Ǡ Durch Drücken der Taste SET bestätigen Sie die Eingabe. Die Anzeige

blinkt nicht mehr.

Hinweis:

Sie können auswählen, welche Standardanzeige (Frequenz oder Kanal-

nummer) am Menüanfang angezeigt werden soll. (ꢀ „Standardanzeige

umschalten“). Werkseitig ist die Frequenzanzeige voreingestellt.

2. Frequenz einstellen

tunE

Ǡ Drücken Sie die Taste SET dreimal, um den Menüpunkt „tunE“ anzu-

wählen. Im Display wird zunächst der Schriftzug „tunE“ und anschlie-

ßend die Frequenzeinstellung des ausgewählten Festspeicherplatzes ange-

zeigt.

Ǡ Mit den Tasten ̆/̄ können Sie die Frequenz in 25-kHz-Schritten verän-

dern. Die neue Frequenz wird im Display blinkend angezeigt und sofort

übernommen. Die neue Frequenz ist nun unter dem ausgewählten Spei-

cherplatz gespeichert.

Ǡ Drücken Sie die Taste SET, um zum Menüanfang zurückzukehren. Im

Display erscheint wieder die Standardanzeige.

Wichtiger Hinweis:

Sie müssen die Frequenz am Sender und am Empfänger auf den exakt

gleichen Wert einstellen!

3. Kanalnummer einstellen

Ch no

Weisen Sie nun dem Festspeicherplatz eine Kanalnummer zu. Sie darf zwi-

schen 0 und 255 liegen. Wenn Sie mehrere Soundfield Systeme in benach-

barten Klassenräumen betreiben, können Sie einer Gruppe von Sendern und

Empfängern die Kanalnummern 1 bis 16 und einer anderen Gruppe die

Kanalnummern 17 bis 32 usw. zuordnen. Im Auslieferungszustand haben

die 16 Festspeicherplätze die Kanalnummern 01 bis 16.

Ǡ Drücken Sie die Taste SET viermal, um den Menüpunkt „Ch no“ anzu-

wählen. Im Display wird der Schriftzug „Ch no“ und danach die einge-

stellte Kanalnummer angezeigt.

Ǡ Mit den Tasten ̆/̄ können Sie nun die Kanalnummer anwählen. Die im

Display blinkende Kanalnummer wird sofort übernommen. Der ausge-

wählte Festspeicherplatz trägt nun die neue Kanalnummer.

Hinweis:

Bereits auf anderen Festspeicherplätzen benutzte Kanalnummern wer-

den übersprungen!

Ǡ Drücken Sie die Taste SET, um zum Menüanfang zurückzukehren. Im

Display erscheint wieder die Standardanzeige.

Hinweis:

Sie sollten am Sender und am Empfänger für dieselbe Frequenz auch die

gleiche Kanalnummer einstellen!

Loc

Bedienung sperren

Nachdem Sie alle Einstellungen beendet haben, können Sie an Sender und

Empfangsteil die Tastatur gegen unbeabsichtigtes Betätigen sperren.

Sperre einschalten

Ǡ Drücken Sie die Taste SET fünfmal, um den Menüpunkt „Loc“ anzuwäh-

len. Die aktuelle Einstellung wird angezeigt.

Ǡ Drücken Sie die Taste ̆, um die Eingabe zu sperren. Im Display blinkt

die Anzeige „Loc on“.

Ǡ Drücken Sie die Taste SET, um an den Menüanfang zurückzukehren.

Hinweis:

Nun sind auch die Tasten ̆/̄ oder ON/OFF gesperrt. Um den Sender

auszuschalten, müssen Sie vorher die Tastatursperre wieder aufheben.

Sperre aufheben

Ǡ Wählen Sie mit der Taste SET den Menüpunkt „Loc“ an. Im Display er-

scheint die Anzeige „Loc on“.

Ǡ Drücken Sie die Taste ̄, um die Lock-Funktion aufzuheben. Im Display

blinkt die Anzeige „Loc OFF“.

Ǡ Drücken Sie die Taste SET, um an den Menüanfang zurückzukehren. Im

Display erscheint wieder die Standardanzeige und die Bedienung ist nun

wieder möglich.

Soundfield System akustisch an den Raum anpassen

Wenn Sie das Soundfield System in einem Raum erstmalig in Betrieb neh-

men, sollten Sie es akustisch an den Raum anpassen.

Ǡ Nehmen Sie den Taschensender und das Mikrofon in Betrieb.

Ǡ Drehen Sie am Verstärker die beiden Lautstärkesteller für Wiedergabe-

geräte ᕢ und das Mikrofon ᕣ auf die Position ‚0‘ zurück.

Ǡ Schalten Sie den Verstärker ein.

Ǡ Stellen Sie die Lautstärke des Mikrofons so ein, dass die Stimme des

Sprechers im Raum gut verständlich, aber nicht unnatürlich laut zu hö-

ren ist. Besonders in langen, schmalen Räumen kann es sich akustisch

positiv auswirken, wenn Sie mit dem Regler für den Pegel der

Lautsprecherausgänge ¹ den Pegel der vorderen Lautsprecher gegen-

über den hinteren reduzieren, da die Stimme des Sprechers den vorderen

Bereich zusätzlich unterstützt. Sie können den Pegel der vorderen Laut-

sprecher gegenüber den hinteren um bis zu 12 dB absenken.

Ǡ Passen Sie über die Regler Ƹ und ƹ den Klang der Stimme an die akus-

tische Situation des Raumes sowie an die Charakteristik der verwende-

ten Lautsprecher an.

Ǡ Viele für das Verständnis der menschlichen Sprache wichtigen Laute lie-

gen im Hochtonbereich oberhalb von 4 kHz. So bestehen Zischlaute und

Plosive ([s], [t], [f] usw.) fast ausschließlich aus hohen Frequenzen. Damit

ein Sprecher gut zu verstehen ist, müssen Sie mit dem Regler ƹ den

Wiedergabepegel für Frequenzen oberhalb von 4,5 kHz so einstellen,

dass diese Frequenzen ausreichend übertragen werden. Werden die ho-

hen Frequenzen überbetont, wirkt die Stimme „scharf“, was auf Dauer

störend wirkt und die Neigung zu Rückkopplungspfeifen erhöht.

Ǡ Stellen Sie mit dem Regler Ƹ den Wiedergabepegel für die tiefen Fre-

quenzen so ein, dass die Stimme nicht „brummig“ wirkt. Da die tiefen

Frequenzen für das Verstehen des Sprechers nicht so wichtig sind wie die

hohen, kann es sogar angenehm sein, wenn die Bässe leicht unterbetont

sind.

9 Pflege und Wartung

Reinigen Sie die Komponenten des Soundfield Systems von Zeit zu Zeit mit

einem feuchten Tuch. Verwenden Sie keine Lösemittel oder lösemittelhaltige

Reinigungsmittel, da sie die Oberflächen der Komponenten angreifen kön-

nen.

Poppschutz austauschen

Zeigt der Poppschutz Risse oder Löcher, müssen Sie ihn austauschen. Zie-

hen Sie dazu den Poppschutz vom Mikrofon ab und ersetzen Sie ihn durch

einen neuen.

2 Area of application

The EMP 2015 Soundfield System is a matched combination of a bodypack

transmitter, a microphone and a receiver with an integrated power amplifier.

The use of advanced PLL and microprocessor technology combined with

the HDX noise reduction system and the latest amplifier technolgy ensure

extremely reliable transmission and excellent sound quality.

An extensive range of accessories enable the Soundfield System to be adapted

to a wide variety of applications.

3 Cautions and advisories

Never open electronic devices! This must only be done by authorized

personnel and is all the more important for devices connected to AC outlets.

If devices are opened by customers in breach of this instruction, the warranty

becomes null and void.

Always disconnect the devices from the mains by removing the plug when

you wish to change connections or move the devices to a different place.

Keep the devices away from central heating radiators and electric heaters.

Never expose them to direct sunlight.

To ensure sufficient ventilation of the device, do not cover the ventilation

apertures at the side panels.

Use the system in dry rooms only.

Use a damp cloth for cleaning the devices. Do not use any cleansing agents

or solvents.

Please protect your hearing and, when using the Soundfield System, set the

volume to safe levels! Constant exposure to high sound levels can cause

permanent hearing damage.

Never connect the loudspeaker cables to the ground and never allow the

cables to come into contact with another cable or metal casing parts. This

can cause a short circuit and may damage your loudspeaker.

6 Getting ready

EMP 2015 receiver/amplifier combination

Setting up the EMP 2015

The EMP 2015 is equipped with a temperature-controlled ventilation system.

To ensure sufficient ventilation, please make sure that the ventilation apertures

at the side panels are not covered. An integrated temperature monitoring

device protects the EMP 2015 against overheating by turning it off if the

temperature rises above a certain value. After sufficient cooling, the EMP 2015

is automatically turned on again.

Connecting the antenna and preparing the mains connection

Antenna

Ǡ Connect the supplied telescopic antenna to the BNC socket ƺ at the

rear of the EMP 2015 and lock the bayonet catch.

Ǡ Pull out the antenna and align it.

Note:

For optimum reception, align the transmitting and receiving antenna

vertically.

Mains connection

Ǡ Plug the power cord into socket ƾ at the rear of the EMP 2015.

Inserting and replacing the battery

Ǡ Slide the cover of the battery compartment ቤ in the direction of the

ቯ

embossed arrow until it clicks audibly.

Ǡ Open the cover.

Ǡ Insert the 9 V PP3 battery (IEC 6 LR 61). Please observe correct polarity

when inserting the battery.

Ǡ Close the battery compartment.

ቤ

Ǡ To remove the battery, push the red lever ቯ in the battery compartment

towards the bottom side of the transmitter.

Note:

If powered by a standard PP3 battery, the operating time of the transmitter is

approx. 6 hours. If powered by a rechargeable battery, the operating time is

approx. 4 hours. Special note on rechargeable battery operation: For

optimum operation, only use 9.6 V / 160 mAh NiMH batteries.

Connecting the antenna

Ǡ Screw the antenna ቢ onto the antenna socket (M3 connection).

Connecting the microphone

Ǡ Connect the 3.5 mm jack plug ተ from the microphone cable to the jack

socket (MIC/LINE) ቧ.

Ǡ Lock the jack plug by screwing down the locking ring ꢀ.

Attaching the transmitter to clothing

The SK 500 transmitter is best attached to e.g. the belt with clip ቲ.

The clip is detachable so that you can also attach the transmitter with the

antenna pointing downwards. To do so, withdraw the clip from its fixing

points and attach it the other way round.

ME 3 headmic

The ME 3 headmic is adjustable to comfortably and securely fit your head.

Positioning the microphone

The ME 3 is a directional microphone, i.e. the sound inlet ᕡ should always

be directed towards the sound source (e.g. mouth). The sound inlet is marked

with a little dot.

the SK 500 bodypack transmitter, a microphone and loudspeakers:

Installing the loudspeakers

The Soundfield System should generate a uniform sound field in the entire

room. The speaker’s voice should not be reproduced louder than normal

but should be heard at the same level everywhere in the room.

To generate a uniform sound field, you require at least several loudspeakers

for wall or ceiling mounting.

Install the loudspeakers so that two loudspeakers are not exactly facing each

other. This can lead to cancellations, resulting in a non-uniform sound field.

Connecting the loudspeakers

The EMP 2015 has four independent power amplifiers. Therefore, you can

connect up to eight loudspeakers to the EMP 2015 Soundfield System.

When installing a system with up to eight loudspeakers, make sure that

the individual loudspeakers have an impedance from 4 to 8 ohms.

The peak pulse power must be 30 W minimum.

When using more than one loudspeaker, make sure that the individual

loudspeakers have the same polarity (+/–).

Danger of short circuit!

Never connect the loudspeaker cables to the ground and never allow

the cables to come into contact with another cable or metal casing parts.

During operation, the ends of the loudspeaker cables must never come

into contact. This can cause a short circuit and may damage your speaker.

Ǡ Connect a loudspeaker cable to each loudspeaker.

Ǡ Connect each loudspeaker separately to the amplifer. Do not connect in

“daisy-chain” configuration.

Ǡ Connect one loudspeaker to each loudspeaker output ƺ.

Turning the system components on and off

Turning the amplifier on/off

The amplifier is fitted with both a mains switch ƿ and an operating switch

ᕡ. Via the mains switch, the amplifier can be disconnected from the mains

(position “0”). The mains switch can always remain set to “I”.

Ǡ When putting the system into operation, turn the amplifer on by setting

the mains switch ƿ to “I”. The mains switch can then remain set to “I”.

Ǡ During normal operation, turn the amplifier on or off by using the operating

switch ᕡ.

Ǡ To disconnect the amplifier from the mains, set the mains switch to “0”.

Turning the receiver section on/off

The receiver section is fitted with a separate ON / OFF switch ᕥ which can

always remain set to “ON”.

Adjusting the volume of the microphone

Set the MICROPHONE volume control ᕣ to “0” before you turn the

amplifier on. Adjust the volume of the microphone after turn-on.

Adjusting the volume of connected audio devices

Set the LINE IN volume control ᕢ to “0” before you turn the amplifier on.

Adjust the volume of the connected audio devices after turn-on.

Note:

With the two volume controls ᕢ and », the microphone and LINE IN

signals can be mixed for reproduction at the loudspeaker output.

Turning the transmitter on/off

Ǡ Slide back the cover plate ቦ.

Ǡ Press the ON / OFF button ቪ to turn the transmitter on. The red LED ባ

lights up.

Ǡ To turn the transmitter off, press and hold the ON / OFF button until

“OFF” appears on the display. You can then release the button. The red

LED ባ goes off.

Muting the transmitter

Use the MUTE switch ቨ to noiselessly mute the transmitter’s audio signal

(this switch does not turn off the transmitter).

Operation

Transmitter and receiver section of the Soundfield System have been factory-

preset to allow immediate use after system installation and turn-on. For

excellent speech intelligibility, however, make sure that the transmitter

sensitivity is adjusted correctly (ꢀ “Adjusting the sensitivity”).

Battery status indication

The red LED ባ and the 8-segment bargraph on the display provide

information on the battery status.

Bargraph:

The bargraph indicates the (remaining) battery capacity in 3 steps:

8 segments: the full battery capacity is available,

4 segments: the battery capacity is sufficient,

1 segment: the battery is going flat, immediately replace the battery.

Note:

When turning on the transmitter with a partially used battery, it is possible

that all eight segments may show for a short period of time – if this happens,

re-check battery status after a few moments.

Red LED:

Red LED lit up:

The transmitter is turned on and the

battery capacity is sufficient.

Red LED starts flashing:

The battery is going flat! You should

immediately replace the battery.

Peak indication

The yellow LED ቤ at the top of the SK 500 transmitter lights up if the

audio signal at the microphone/line input ቧ is excessively high (AF PEAK).

Connecting external audio devices

You can connect two mono or two stereo audio devices to the amplifier.

Ǡ Connect the RCA plugs of the sound recording devices to the RCA sockets

(LINE IN) ƻ at the rear of the EMP 2015. For correct connection of the

different audio devices, please refer to the diagrams at the left.

Note:

Stereo (left-right) signals are mixed in the amplifier and are then available

as a mono signal.

Ǡ If possible, set stereo audio devices to “mono” operation. If sound

problems occur, use the left channel of TVs and VCRs.

Adjusting the volume of an external audio device

You can adjust the volume of the connected audio device (e.g. VCR) separately

from the volume of the speaker’s microphone. If, however, you have connected

two audio devices to the line input, the volume control adjusts the volume of

both devices.

Ǡ Use the volume control (LINE IN) ᕢ to adjust the volume of the

connected device.

Note

If the audio signal sounds distorted, reduce the sensitivity of the system

with control µ. If control µ is turned counterclockwise as far as possible,

the audio signal may not be audible.

Connecting FM systems for persons with impaired hearing

You can connect an FM transmitter of an FM system of any manufacturer to

each of the two line outputs (LINE OUT) Ƽ.

The FM transmitter transmits the signals of one or several speakers and, if

connected, an audio device to the FM receiver of the hearing impaired. As a

result, the speaker doesn’t have to wear several transmitters and microphones

but only the transmitter and the microphone of the Soundfield System. In

addition, the use of the Soundfield System ensures excellent sound quality.

EMP 2015 with two FM systems

For connecting an FM transmitter, you require a connecting cable fitted with

an RCA plug and a 3.5 mm jack plug. (Some FM transmitters are fitted with

a 2.5 mm jack socket.)

Ǡ Connect the RCA plug of the connecting cable to one of the two RCA

sockets (LINE OUT) Ƽ at the rear of the EMP 2015.

Ǡ Connect the 3.5 mm jack plug of the connecting cable to the line input of

the FM transmitter.

Adjusting the output level for FM transmitters

All standard FM transmitters are fitted with a line or audio input which

should be used for connecting the transmitter. In general, the line output

level control (LINE OUT) ¸ on the EMP 2015 should be turned clockwise

as far as possible.

Testing the FM system

Before you use an FM system for the first time, connect it to the Soundfield

System as described above and test it via monitoring headphones to ensure

problem-free operation.

If the speaker’s voice sounds distorted, reduce the line output level by turning

control ¸ counterclockwise.

Connecting sound recording devices

You can connect sound recording devices (e.g. tape recorder, dictating

machine, etc.) to the RCA sockets (LINE OUT) Ƽ of the amplifer. The

connected device records the same signal that can be heard in the room

through the loudspeakers. If possible, connect the sound recording device

via its line input (LINE IN, REC. IN, AUX IN, TB IN or similar).

Ǡ Connect the RCA plugs of the sound recording devices to the RCA sockets

(LINE OUT) Ƽ at the rear of the EMP 2015. For correct connection of

the different audio devices, please refer to the diagrams at the left.

Adjusting the recording level

The recording level is independent of the setting of the volume controls ·

and ». It is, however, dependent on the setting of the line input sensitivity

control (LINE IN) µ. Control µ adjusts the input level of the connected

audio device.

The recording level of the line output Ƽ can be adjusted from 0 to 700 mVrms

(corresponds to minus infinite to up to 0 dBU).

1. The sound recording device is connected via its line input (LINE IN,

REC. IN, AUX IN, TB IN or similar):

Ǡ Turn control ¸ clockwise as far as possible and adjust the input level

of the sound recording device.

2. The sound recording device is connected via its microphone input:

Ǡ Set the input level of the sound recording device to maximum and

use control ¸ to adjust the recording level so that, during loud

passages, distortion is avoided.

Note:

If control ¸ is turned counterclockwise as far as possible, no audio signal

will be available at the line output Ƽ.

If you have connected two mono sound recording devices, the control adjusts

the recording level of both devices.

Installing a system including several transmitters

(team teaching)

With one Soundfield System, up to three speakers can speak simultaneously

in the same room.

Transmitter 1 is directly received by the receiver section of the EMP 2015.

Transmitters 2 and 3 require an additional receiver respectively. The receivers

can be connected to the RCA sockets (LINE IN) ƻ of the EMP 2015. The

signals of all transmitters are then reproduced by the loudspeakers.

For installing the system described above, you require additional SK 500

bodypack transmitters and EM 500 rack-mount receivers (ꢀ “Recommended

accessories”).

Connecting an EM 500 receiver

For connecting an EM 500 receiver, you require a connecting cable fitted

with an 1/4” (6.3 mm) jack plug and an RCA plug (ꢀ “Recommended

accessories”).

EMP 2015 with three transmitters and

two additional receivers

Ǡ Prepare the receiver for use as described in the receiver’s instruction

manual.

Ǡ Connect the RCA plug of the connecting cable to one of the two RCA

sockets (LINE IN) ƻ of the EMP 2015.

Ǡ Connect the 1/4” (6.3 mm) jack plug of the connecting cable to the

1/4” (6.3 mm) jack socket of the receiver.

Ǡ Set the transmitter and receiver of each transmission link to the same

frequency.

Note:

Transmitter and receiver of each transmission link have to operate on the

same frequency which must differ from the frequencies used by other

transmission links in the room. With both the transmitter and receiver of the

Soundfield System and the additional SK 500 transmitters and

EM 500 receivers you can change the frequencies and store them in one of

the 16 fixed frequency memories (ꢀ “Operating steps for configuring a

frequency memory”).

Adjusting the volume of the connected receivers

Ǡ Use the volume control (LINE IN) ᕢ to adjust the volume of the

connected receiver.

Note:

If you have connected two receivers to the line input, the volume control

adjusts the volume of both receivers.

Adapting the system sensitvity to the connected receivers

Ǡ Turn the line input sensitivity control (LINE IN) µ clockwise as far as

possible.

Ǡ Adjust the output level on the EM 500 receiver as described in the

receiver’s instruction manual.

Installing a system including two transmitters and an

audio device

You can also connect an additional receiver and an external audio device

(e.g. VCR) to the two line inputs (LINE IN) ƻ of the EMP 2015. With

such a system, the signals of two speakers speaking simultaneously and the

signals of a VCR or similar are then reproduced by loudspeakers in the

room. (In addition, you can connect sound recording devices to the two line

outputs (LINE OUT) Ƽ of this system.)

To install this system, please proceed as described in the chapters “Installing

a system with several transmitters (team teaching)” and “Connecting external

audio devices”.

Recommendations and tips

... for the ME 3 headmic

ț Always use the microphone with a windscreen and position the microphone

at the corner of the mouth.

ț You can vary the bass reproduction by increasing/decreasing the talking

distance.

ț Make sure that the sound inlet is directed towards the mouth. The sound

inlet is marked with a little dot.

... for the SK 500 bodypack transmitter

ț For optimum transmission quality, make sure that the antenna and the

microphone cable do not cross.

... for optimum reception

ț Transmission range depends to a large extent on location and can vary

from about 10 m to about 150 m.

ț If reception conditions are unfavourable, you should use a remote receiving

antenna (available as an accessory) which is connected via antenna cable.

ț Observe a minimum distance of 50 cm between the receiving antenna

and metal objects (such as cross members or reinforced-concrete walls).

8 Special adjustments

Basic functions of the Sennheiser operating menu

With the Soundfield System, all necessary adjustments to the transmitter

and receiver section settings can be made by using the SET and ̆ and ̄

buttons. The settings are indicated on the respective displays.

Important:

After turn-on, press the ̆/̄ buttons to switch between the factory-

preset fixed frequency memories. The display starts flashing. Your

selection becomes effective immediately. Press the SET button to

acknowledge your selection. The flashing stops.

1. Press the SET button to enter the top menu level:

By briefly pressing SET again, you can change to the next menu.

After approx. one second, the selected menu appears on the display and

then the current setting of the menu is indicated.

2. Press the ̆/̄ buttons to adjust the settings of the selected menu:

The new setting starts flashing on the display. If you return to the previous

setting, the flashing stops.

Important:

New settings become effective immediately and will be

retained in memory on turn-off!

N.B.: When changing transmitter frequencies, care should be

taken to avoid causing interference to other channels/users.

In the “tunE” and “Ch no” menu, the ̆/̄ buttons feature a “fast search”

function. If you briefly press the ̆/̄ buttons, you can jump either forwards

or backwards to the next setting. If you press and hold down a button,

you can scroll through the settings.

3. Press the SET button to return to the top menu level:

Have you finished your entries? Press the SET button to return to the top

menu level. The display then switches back to the standard setting.

Adjusting the sensitvity (transmitter only)

If the microphone sensitivity is not adjusted correctly, the speaker’s voice

can sound distorted or noisy. Distortion occurs if the microphone sensitivity

is adjusted too high. In this case, the transmitter’s yellow audio peak indication

LED lights up ቤ. If, on the other hand, the sensitivity is adjusted too low,

the teacher’s voice will be overlaid with background noise.

Adjust the sensitivity so that the yellow audio peak indication LED ቤ only

lights up during the loudest passages.

The following figures are a guide to the best settings:

Ǡ Press the SET button to select the “SEnSit” menu. “SEnSit” appears on

can be adjusted in 10-dB steps from 0 to -30 dB. The new setting starts

flashing on the display and becomes effective immediately.

Ǡ Press the SET button to return to the top menu level. The display then

switches back to the standard display.

Adjusting the squelch threshold (receiver section only)

SqELCH

The amplifier’s receiver section is equipped with an adjustable squelch which

eliminates annoying noise when the transmitter is turned off. It also suppresses

sudden noise when the transmitter leaves the reception area.

Ǡ Press the SET button to select the “SqELCH” menu. “SqELCH” appears on

the display; after a short pause the current squelch setting is indicated.

Ǡ With the ̆/̄ buttons you can now select a different setting. The squelch

can be turned off (0 dB) or adjusted in 5-dB steps from 5 dB to 40 dB.

(Selecting a smaller value reduces the squelch threshold, selecting a higher

value increases the squelch threshold.) The new setting starts flashing on

the display. Set the squelch threshold – with the transmitter turned off –

to the lowest possible value that suppresses hissing noise. With the squelch

set to a high value, the receiver section will be less sensitive to interference

but, on the other hand, the transmission range will be reduced.

Note:

If the receiver’s squelch is set to “0 dB” and you turn the transmitter off,

hissing noise with high dynamics will occur.

Ǡ Press the SET button to return to the top menu level. The display then

switches back to the standard display.

Selecting the content of the standard display

DiSPL

With both transmitter and receiver section you can choose the content of the

standard display i.e. whether the frequency (in MHz) or the channel number

is displayed.

Ǡ Press the SET button twice to select the “DiSPL” menu. “DiSPL” appears

on the display; after a short pause the current setting is indicated.

Ǡ With the ̆/̄ buttons you can now choose between:

“FrEqu”

“ChAnnL”

The new setting for the standard display starts flashing on the display.

switches to the new standard display.

Configuring a frequency memory

Transmitter and receiver section of the Soundfield System have 16 switchable

frequency memories respectively to store up to 16 transmission and receiving

frequencies. The 16 factory-preset transmission/receiving frequencies are all

intermodulation-free, i.e. you could operate up to 16 transmission links

simultaneously in the same room.

If you use more than 16 Soundfield Systems in neighboring rooms, a

minimum spacing of 400 kHz between two carrier frequencies must be

maintained. Within the 32 MHz frequency window, you can therefore operate

up to 80 systems without having to use a frequency twice.

Note:

In contrast to the Soundfield System, standard FM systems operate in the

VHF band so that both systems cannot interfere with each other.

Operating steps for configuring a frequency memory

1. Select a frequency memory

Ǡ Press the ̆/̄ buttons to select a factory-preset fixed frequency memory.

The display starts flashing. Your selection becomes effective immediately.

Ǡ Press the SET button to acknowledge your selection. The display stops

flashing. (If the SET button is not pressed, the device will store the new

setting automatically on turn-off.)

Note:

You can choose the content of the standard display i.e. whether the

frequency or the channel number is displayed (ꢀ “Selecting the content

of the standard display”). The devices are factory-preset to show the

frequency setting as standard.

2. Select a different frequency

Ǡ Press the SET button three times to select the “tunE” menu. “tunE” appears

on the display; after a short pause the currently set frequency is indicated.

Ǡ With the ̆/̄ buttons you can now select a different frequency. The

frequencies are tunable in 25-kHz steps. The new frequency starts flashing

on the display and becomes effective immediately.

Ǡ Press the SET button to return to the top menu level. The display then

switches back to the standard display.

Important note:

Set the transmitter AND the receiver to exactly the same frequency!

3. Assign a channel number

Ch no

You now have to assign the frequency memory a channel number (from 0 to

255). If you use several Soundfield Systems in neighboring rooms, you can

assign channel numbers 1 – 16 to one group of transmitters and receivers

and channel numbers 17 – 32 to the next group, etc. The 16 fixed frequency

memories are factory-preset to channel numbers 01 – 16.

Ǡ Press the SET button four times to select the “Ch no” menu. “Ch no”

appears on the display; after a short pause the currently assigned channel

number is indicated.

Ǡ With the ̆/̄ buttons you can now select a different channel number.

The new channel number starts flashing on the display and becomes

effective immediately.

Note:

Channel numbers which have already been assigned to a fixed

frequency memory are skipped!

Ǡ Press the SET button to return to the top menu level. The display then

switches back to the standard display.

Note:

Use the same channel number for both transmission and receiving

frequency!

Loc

Activating/deactivating the lock mode

After you have finished your entries, you can lock the buttons on the

transmitter and the receiver section to prevent accidental programming or

turning off during operation.

Activating the lock mode

Ǡ Press the SET button five times to select the “Loc” menu. The current

setting is indicated on the display.

Ǡ Press the ̆ button to activate the lock mode. “Loc on” starts flashing on

the display.

Ǡ Press the SET button to return to the top menu level.

Note:

The ̆/̄ buttons or the ON/OFF button are now locked. To turn the

transmitter off, first deactivate the lock mode.

Deactivating the lock mode

Ǡ Select the “Loc” menu by pressing the SET button. “Loc on” appears on

the display.

Ǡ Press the ̄ button to deactivate the lock mode. “Loc OFF” begins to flash

on the display.

Ǡ Press the SET button to return to the top menu level. The display switches

back to the standard display and the buttons can now be operated as

usual.

Acoustically adapting the Soundfield System to a room

Before you use the Soundfield System for the first time in a room, you should

acoustically adapt it to the room.

Ǡ Turn on both the bodypack transmitter and the microphone.

Ǡ Reset the two volume controls ᕢ and ᕣ on the amplifier to “0”.

Ǡ Turn on the amplifer.

Ǡ Adjust the volume of the microphone so that the speaker’s voice can be

clearly understood but doesn’t sound unnaturally loud. In long, narrow

rooms it might be advisable to reduce the level of the front loudspeakers

compared to that of the rear loudspeakers by means of the loudspeaker

output level control ¹, since the speaker’s voice additionally supports

the front part. You can reduce the level of the front loudspeakers compared

to that of the rear loudspeakers by up to 12 dB.

Ǡ Use the bass control Ƹ and the treble control ƹ to adapt the sound of

the voice to both the acoustic situation in the room and the characteristics

of the connected loudspeakers.

Ǡ Many of the sounds which are important for speech intelligibility are in

the high frequency range above 4 kHz. Hissing noise and so-called plosives

([s], [t], [f], etc.) mainly consist of high frequencies. In order to ensure

that the speaker can be clearly understood, use the treble control ƹ to

adjust the treble response to a sufficient value. If the high frequencies are

enhanced too much, the voice sounds “sharp”, which might be disturbing

in the long run and increases the risk of feedback.

Ǡ Use the bass control Ƹ to set the bass response so that the voice doesn’t

“hum”. Since the low frequencies are not that important for speech

intelligibility, it might be advisable to adjust the bass response to a

comparatively low level during classes.

9 Care and maintenance

The components of the Soundfield System should be cleaned from time to

time. Use a damp cloth for cleaning. Do not use solvents or solvent-containing

cleansing agents as these could damage the surface of the components.

Replacing the windscreen

If the windscreen shows signs of wear such as tears or holes, replace the

windscreen. To do so, pull the old windscreen from the microphone and

gently slide on the new one.
