adjustments of customer controls are not covered under your warranty.
Symptoms
Items to Check and Actions to follow
“Ghost” or double images
•
This may be caused by obstruction to the antenna due to high rise buildings or hills.
Using a highly directional antenna may improve the picture.
No power
No picture
•
•
Check that the receiver’s AC power cord is plugged into the mains socket.
Unplug the receiver, wait for 60 seconds.
Then re-insert plug into the mains socket and turn on the receiver again.
•
•
•
•
•
Check antenna connections at the rear of the receiver to see if it is properly connected to the receiver.
Possible broadcast station trouble. Try another channel.
Adjust the contrast and brightness settings.
Has the Child Lock been turned off?
Switch yourVGA-source to a correct display mode.
Good picture but no sound
•
Increase theVOLUME.
•
•
Check that the receiver/monitor is not muted, press the ¬ key on the remote control.
When no signal is detected, the receiver automatically switches off the sound.
This is proper operation and does not indicate a malfunction.
Has the centre mode been switched off?
•
Good sound but poor
colour
•
•
Adjust the contrast, colour and brightness settings.
Check the transmission system’s settings of this set.
Poor picture
•
Sometimes, poor picture quality occurs when having activated an S-VHS camera or camcorder
connected to the front side of of your receiver and another peripheral is connected to A/V1 or A/V2 at
the same time. In this case, switch off one of the other peripherals.
Do the same when a peripheral is connected to A/V3 CVBS and another peripheral to A/V3 RGB.
Snowy picture and noise
Horizontal dotted line
•
Check the antenna connection.
•
•
This may be caused by electrical interference (e.g. hairdryer, nearby neon lights, etc.)
Switch off the equipment.
Television not responding to
remote control
•
•
•
•
•
Check whether the batteries are working. Replace if necessary.
Clean the remote control sensor lens on the receiver.

800x450, MAC II, SVGA, XGA).
Control of peripheral
equipment
The infrared signals of the screen may influence the reception sensibility of other peripherals.
Solution: replace the batteries of the remote control or change position of other equipment. E.g. keep
away a wireless headphone from within a radius of 50”.
NICAM sound distortion
(crackling noise)
•
•
This could be due to antenna siting or reflected signal.
Switch over to Analogue mode by pressing the X key on the remote control.
If your problem is not solved
Turn your TV off and then on again once.
Never attempt to repair a defective TV yourself.
Check with your dealer or call a TV technician.

Glossary
100 Hz
DNR
RF
Radio Frequency or modulated signal
design used as the carrier for television
broadcasts.
100 Hertz provides a superior solution to
the problem of picture flicker which is
particularly noticeable with larger screen
sizes. In a conventional TV, the picture area
is scanned 50 times a second (50 Hertz) –
a frequency which is still detectable by the
human eye in the form of a flickering
picture. In 100 Hertz sets, the picture area
is scanned at a rate of 100 times per
second (100 Hertz). At this frequency, the
eye cannot detect flicker, resulting in a
clearer picture which is more relaxing to
the eye.
Dynamic Noise Reduction.
By encoding signals digitally in 100 Hz sets
with Digital Scan it is possible to clean up
picture noise. This is especially beneficial in
poor signal areas and when viewing poor
quality video tapes.
Smart Picture and Sound Controls
Keys on the remote control to select
predefined picture and sound settings.
EasyText
Teletext memory that automatically
memorises Teletext pages and gives you
instant access to them.
Sleeptimer
Function with which you can set a time
period after which the TV should switch
itself to standby.
LED
Aspect Ratio
Light Emitting Diode or indicator.
S-Video Input
The proportions of a rectangular display
screen. NTSC television has a 4:3 ratio;
HDTV is 16:9.
Allows direct connection of high-
resolution video sources, such as a Super
VHS videocassette recorder, Laser Disc
player, etc. Provides improved picture
resolution, sharpness and clarity.
Menu
On-screen display of functions and
facilities in a well-organised survey, which
you can select using your remote control.
-
Child Lock
Feature to prevent unauthorised use of
your TV.The TV can only be switched on
and operated with the remote control.
Natural Motion
Teletext
Philips Technology that makes movement
on television appear more natural.
See also Easy Text
WST:World Standard Teletext.
FLOF: Full Level one Features. System
applied by the BBC, RVE.... that provides a
fast access to the teletext pages.
TOP:Table of (Teletext) Pages. German
system for an easy access to the teletext
pages.
Coaxial Cable
A single solid antenna wire normally
matched with a metal plug (F-type) end
connector that screws (or pushes) directly
onto a 75 Ohm input found on the
receiver orVCR.
NTSC
The broadcasting system used in the USA,
Japan and parts of South America and
Southeast-Asia.
On Screen Displays (OSD)
Colour temperature
Refers to the wording or messages
generated by the receiver to help the user
with specific feature controls (sound
mode, picture format, etc.)
TV-function to modify the general colour
balance between cool and warm and to
adjust it according to your personal
preference.
Picture Freeze
DigitalVideo
TV mode which allows you to “freeze” a
certain image in order to study a specific
detail at ease, e.g. to make notes of certain
programme information like phone
numbers.
Description applied to any equipment that
uses digital techniques to reproduce
pictures.
