This SHP uses a high voltage glass mercury vapor
lamp. The lamp can break or fail to light if handled
wrongly during replacement or because of the

Lamp life also varies according to the lamp with
some even breaking or failing to light as soon as
they are used the first time. If the lamp breaks,
glass fragments may be scattered inside the lamp
unit and projector, and gas inside the lamp bulb
that contains mercury vapor may be emitted from
the projector’s vent.
Do not remove the cover from the equipment.
Do not insert anything into the equipment
through the ventilation holes.

The focus pattern changes color depending on the lens position. There are two colors and they can
be used for checking the quality of the projected image. The white focus pattern uses the highest
optical performance to maximize the sharpness of the projected image. To enjoy the highest
sharpness, it is recommended to position the lens within this range.
WIDE

2.
When the lens is shifted outside the aforementioned range, the focus pattern turns green. Rough
focusing in this range looses image sharpness.
Adjusting the zoom position from WIDE to TELE enhances sharpness even at the same lens
position. However, the focus pattern does not change when the zoom position is changed.

About Extended mounting conditions
The VP-12S4 has a very flexible lens shift arrangement that allows mounting the projector above the
screen possibly eliminating the need for a mounting pole. For the VP-12S4 the projector can be mounted
15% of the height of the screen(=0.15H)* above the top of the viewable portion. For extended mounting
conditions, the lens can be shifted even farther (170% 200%). However if these values are used, optical
performance may suffer slightly. This could manifest itself as chromatic aberration (minor color fringing)
and/or geometric distortion.
Screen Height = 1H
If the projector is used in the extended mounting conditions, the focus pattern will be displayed in Green.
*the height of the screen=1H

saved by users. Also, the Theater, Standard and Dynamic modes three indexes for memorizing picture
quality adjustments. Similarly, the User mode has nine, making a total of 18 indexes available for use.
This projector has menus that make setting and adjustment easy.

Color Temperature Adjustment
After replacing the lamp or in other cases where
the lighting changes, color temperature can be
adjusted using the color temperature sensor. In the
adjustment procedure, you must first initialize the
sensor itself before adjusting color temperature. It
takes about 10 minutes from when the power to
the projector is activated for the lamps brightness
to stabilize. Wait for lamp brightness to stabilize
before adjusting color temperature.
Note:
When installed on a tabletop
If color temperature adjustment is not
correctly processed or if adjustment
processing is interrupted in course by
pressing the MENU button or for some other
reason, the below message appears on the
screen.
