Unpack the mower  
Add oil and fuel

• Move the mower outside to a flat, level surface.  
• Cut all four corners of the box from top to bottom.  
• Remove all packing materials from the mower.  
• Locate and identify the items included with the mower.  
• Remove the oil fill cap (A, Figure 3). Add the entire contents of the  
supplied oil container to the engine. Replace the oil fill cap.

IMPORTANT Mower is shipped without oil in engine.  
Failure to add oil before starting engine will result in  
engine damage.

IF SWALLOWED, call a physician immediately.  
Fuel stabilizer contains:  
• Remove the fuel fill cap (B). Following the three-step instructions on  
the FreshStart® card, snap the fuel preserver cartridge into the bottom  
of the fuel fill cap.  
Fuel stabilizer is a hazardous chemical.

2,6-di-tert-butylphenol (128-39-2) and  
aliphatic petroleum distillate (64742-47-8).  
• Add clean, fresh, UNLEADED fuel with a minimum of 87 octane,  
eaving one inch of space from the top of the tank for fuel expansion.  
NOTE: Fuel blends containing more than 10% ethanol are not  
recommended.  
• Loosen, but do not remove, the knobs (A, Figure 1)  
on both sides of the upper handle.  
Overview  
• Unfold the upper handle so that it is aligned with the  
lower handle, and tighten the upper knobs.  
Running engines give off carbon monoxide, an  
odorless, colorless, poison gas. Breathing carbon  
monoxide can cause nausea, fainting, or death.  
IMPORTANT Fuel tank holds less than 1/2 gallon.  
IMPORTANT DO NOT mix oil with fuel.  
IMPORTANT DO NOT use E85 fuel.  
Operate this product ONLY outdoors.  
Keep exhaust gas from entering a confined area through  
windows, doors, ventilation intakes or other openings.  
DO NOT operate this product inside any building or  
enclosure, even if windows and doors are open.  
• Remove the handle knobs, washers and carriage bolts  
from the lower handle (B).  
• Replace the fuel fill cap, and wipe up any spills.

• Raise the lower handle, aligning it with one of the  
three sets of holes in the handle bracket. (Most users  
will prefer the middle position). Replace the hardware
tightening securely.

• Move the cutting height adjust levers (A, Figure 4) to the desired  
cutting height.

• Set the mower to mulch, bag, or discharge. (See 3-in-1 instructions  
below.)

• Squeeze the blade control (A, Figure 2) against the  
drive control (B). NOTE: The blade control and drive  
control can be operated from either side.

Mulching  
Cover  
A
• Carefully read all the manuals supplied with the mower.  
They contain important safety, operating, and maintenance  
information.  
• Pull the starter rope handle (C) out of the engine to  
the rope guide (D). Hook the starter rope into th
rope guide (it might be a tight fit).  
Failure to read and follow instructions in the  
operator's manual could result in death and/or  
bodily injury.

• Holding the rear door open, attach the  
grass bag to the rear of the mower  
(Figure 7).
