Introduction
Before Operating Your Unit
Make sure the wiring is adequate for your unit.
If you have fuses, they should be of the time delay type. Before you install or relocate this unit, be sure that
the amperage rating of the circuit breaker or time delay fuse does not exceed the amp rating listed in figure 1.
DO NOT use an extension cord.
The cord provided will carry the proper amount of electrical power to the unit; an extension cord will not.
Make sure that the receptacle is compatible with the wall plug provided.
This insures proper grounding. If you have a two-prong receptacle you will need to have the circuit replaced
by a certified electrician with a grounded circuit that meets all national and local codes and ordinances. You
must use the three-prong plug furnished with the air conditioner.

For the Best Cooling Performance and Energy Efficiency
Keep the filter clean
Make sure that your air conditioner is always in top performing condition by cleaning the filter regularly.
Instructions for removing and cleaning the filter can be found on page 6.
Provide good airflow
Make sure that the airflow to and from the unit is clear. Your air conditioner puts the air out at the top of
the unit, and takes in air at the bottom. Airflow is critical to good operation. It is just as important on the
outside of the building that the airflow around the unit exterior is not blocked.
Unit Placement
If your air conditioner can be placed in a window or a wall that is shaded by a tree or another building, the
unit will operate even more efficiently. Using drapes or blinds on the sunny side of the dwelling will also
add to your unit's efficiency.
Insulation
Good insulation will be a big help in maintaining desirable comfort levels. Doors should have weather
stripping. Be sure to caulk around doors and windows.

The Hi Fan setting provides maximum circulation of filtered room air
without cooling.

The Lo Fan setting is a slow fan speed without cooling.
TEMPERATURE CONTROL
This dial is the thermostat. Turn it clockwise for cooler and
counterclockwise for warmer temperature.

• FOR NORMAL COOLING
1. Turn the Mode switch to the Hi Cool or the Lo Cool setting.
2. Set the Temperature control to the desired temperature point (the mid-point is a good
starting position). If the room temperature is not satisfactory after a reasonable time, adjust the
control to a cooler or warmer setting, as appropriate.
• FOR MAXIMUM COOLING
1. Turn the Mode switch to the Hi Cool setting.
2. Set the temperature control to the coolest temperature point (all the way to the right).
• FOR QUIETER OPERATION
1. Turn the Mode switch to the Lo Cool setting.
2. Set the Temperature control as needed.
CAUTION
When the air conditioner has finished cooling the room and is turned off or set to the fan
position, wait at least 3 minutes before resetting to the cooling operation again.

Additional controls and important information.
Air Direction
• ADJUSTING THE AIR DIRECTION USING THE HORIZONTAL AIR-DEFLECTOR CONTROL
Using the Control Tabs, the air flow can be directed
to the left, right, straight ahead, or any combination
of these directions.
Care and Maintenance
TURN THE AIR CONDITIONER OFF AND REMOVE THE PLUG FROM THE POWER OUTLET.
• To Remove the Filter
1. Remove the front cover by gripping the top outside
edges and pulling toward you (see Fig.1).

2. Find the two clips that hold the filter in place.
Gently lift the filter out.
• To Clean the Filter
1. Clean with warm water. Be sure to shake all water off
before replacing the filter.
2. Carefully position the filter, bottom first, and snap

back into place.
The filter should be cleaned every two weeks for best
results.
• Cleaning The Air Conditioner
The Front Grille and Inlet Grille may be wiped with a
cloth dampened in a mild detergent and lukewarm water
solution. (Fig. 2)
The cabinet may be washed with mild soap or detergent and
lukewarm water.

coils(outside of unit) should be checked periodically and
cleaned if clogged with soot or dirt from the atmosphere.
Consult a certified Friedrich service agent for more information.
• Removing the Front Grille
1. Remove the temperature and mode control knobs by gently
pulling them off.(Fig.3)
2. Remove the screw securing the Front Grille.(Fig.3) The screw is
located behind the bottom temperature knob.
3. Push the grille up from the bottom and pull the top of the grille
away from the case as the top tabs lift out of their slots.(Fig. 4)
4. Carefully position the grille, bottom first, and snap back into
place.

5. Reposition the screw that secures the Front Grille and replace the
knobs.

Window Requirements
NOTE: All supporting parts should be secured to firm wood, masonry, or metal.
1. This unit is designed for installation in standard double hung windows with actual opening widths of
22" to 36". The upper and lower sash must open sufficiently to allow a clear vertical opening of 13"
from the bottom of the sash to the window stool.
2.If storm window presents interference, fasten a 2" wide wood strip to the inner window sill across
the full width of the sill. The wood strip should be thick enough to raise the height of the window sill
so that the unit can be installed without interference by the storm window frame.
See Fig. 5-2. The top of the wood strip should be approximately 3/4" higher than the storm window
frame (STORM WINDOW FRAME) or wood strip (OUTDOORS) to help condensation to drain
properly to the outside.
3. Install a second wood strip (approximately 6" long by 11/2" wide and same thickness as first strip) in
the center of the outer sill flush against the back off the inner sill. This will raise the L bracket as
shown Fig. 5-2.
4. If the distance between STORM WINDOW FRAME and WOOD STRIP MOUNTED ON TOP OF
INNER SILL is more than 1", two of wood strips are not necessary.

A. BEFORE INSTALLATION
1. Insert the Guide Panels into the guides of the air
conditioner. Fasten the Curtains to the unit with
screws (TYPE A), as shown Fig. 6.

2. Cut the adhesive-backed seal strip (TYPE D) to the
window width.
Remove the backing from the seal strip and attach
the seal strip to the underside of the bottom
window. (Fig. 7)

Open the window and mark center line on the
center of the inner sill, as shown in Fig. 8.

a. Install the L brackets behind the inner window
sill, with short side of bracket as shown. Use the
2 screws (TYPE A) provided.
b. The bracket helps to hold unit securely in place.
Be sure to place bracket edge flush against back
of inner sill. See Fig. 9.

During the following step, hold unit firmly until
window sash is lowered to top channel behind
side panel frames. Personal injury or property

3. INSTALL THE AIR CONDITIONER IN THE

a. Carefully lift the air conditioner and slide it into
the open window. Make sure the bottom guide of
the air conditioner drops into the notches of the
L bracket. See Fig. 9.
IMPORTANT :
When the air conditioner drops into the L bracket, the
air conditioner will be centered in window opening as
shown in Fig. 10.

b. While steadying the air conditioner, carefully
bring the window sash down behind the upper
guide of the air conditioner, as shown in Fig. 11.

4. SECURE THE GUIDE PANELS

Extend the Guide Panels (TYPE F) to fill the window
opening using 4 screws (TYPE B) to secure them, as
shown in Fig. 12.

5. INSTALL THE SASH SEAL AND SASH LOCK
a. Cut the Sash Seal (TYPE E) to the window width.
Stuff the Sash Seal between the glass and the
window to prevent air and insects from getting into
the room, as shown in Fig. 12.

b. Fasten the L bracket using a screw (TYPE A), as
shown in Fig. 12.
6. a. Remove the screws that secure the cabinet and
base pan in the right side.

b. Fasten the support bracket (TYPE G) using a
removed screw. Attach the suport bracket (TYPE G)
in the inner window sill with a screw (TYPE B), as
shown Fig. 13.
7. Window installation of room air conditioner is now
completed. See ELECTRICAL DATA for attaching
power cord to electrical outlet.

REMOVAL FROM WINDOW
Turn the air conditioner off, disconnect the power cord, remove the L bracket, the screws and Support Bracket
installed through the top and bottom of the Guide Panels, and save for reinstallation later. Close the Guide Panels.
Keeping a firm grip on the air conditioner, raise the sash, and carefully tilt the air conditioner backward, draining
any condensate. Lift the air conditioner from the window and remove the sash seal from between the windows.

Troubleshooting Tips
Troubleshooting Tips save time and money! Review the chart
below first and you may not need to call for service.
Normal Operation
• You may hear a pinging noise caused by water being picked up and thrown against the condenser
on rainy days or when the humidity is high. This design feature helps remove moisture and improve
efficiency.
• You may hear the thermostat click when the compressor cycles on and off.
• Water will collect in the base pan during high humidity or on rainy days. The water may overflow
and drip from the outdoor side of the unit.
• The fan may run even when the compressor does not.
• Your air conditioner is designed to cool in warm weather when the outside temperature is above
60°F(16°C) and below 115°F(46°C).

FIRST YEAR
ANY PART: If any part supplied by FRIEDRICH fails because of a defect in workmanship or material within twelve months from date of
original purchase, FRIEDRICH will repair the product at no charge, provided room air conditioner is reasonably accessible for service.
Any additional labor cost for removing inaccessible units and/or charges for mileage related to travel by a Service Agency that exceeds
25 miles one way will be the responsibility of the owner. This remedy is expressly agreed to be the exclusive remedy within twelve
months from the date of the original purchase.
SECOND THROUGH FIFTH YEAR
SEALED REFRIGERANT SYSTEM: If the sealed refrigeration system (defined for this purpose as the compressor, condenser coil,
evaporator coil, reversing valve, check valve, capillary, filter drier, and all interconnecting tubing) supplied by FRIEDRICH in your Room
Air Conditioner fails because of a defect in workmanship or material within sixty months from date of purchase, FRIEDRICH will pay a
labor allowance and parts necessary to repair the Sealed Refrigeration System; PROVIDED FRIEDRICH will not pay the cost of diagnosis
of the problem, removal, freight charges and transportation of the air conditioner to and from the Service Agency, and the reinstallation
charges associated with repair of the Sealed Refrigeration System. All such cost will be the sole responsibility of the owner. This remedy
is expressly agreed to be the exclusive remedy within sixty months from the date of the original purchase.
APPLICABILITY AND LIMITATIONS: This warranty is applicable only to units retained within the Fifty States of the U.S.A., District of
Columbia, and Canada. This warranty is not applicable to:
1. Air filters or fuses.
2. Products on which the model and serial numbers have been removed.
3. Products which have defects or damage which results from improper installation, wiring, electrical current characteristics, or
maintenance; or caused by accident, misuse or abuse, fire, flood, alterations and/or misapplication of the product and/or units
installed in a corrosive atmosphere, default or delay in performance caused by war, government restrictions or restraints, strikes,
material shortages beyond the control of FRIEDRICH, or acts of God.
OBTAINING WARRANTY PERFORMANCE: Service will be provided by the FRIEDRICH Authorized Dealer or Service Organization

Assurez-vous que votre câblage électrique est conforme aux normes de

changer l'emplacement de cet appareil, assurez-vous que l'intensité de courant du disjoncteur ou du fusible
temporisé n'excède pas l'intensité de courant spécifiée à la figure 1.
N'UTILISEZ JAMAIS un fil de rallonge.
Contrairement au cordon d'alimentation fourni avec l'appareil, le fil de rallonge n'acheminera pas le courant
d'alimentation approprié au bon fonctionnement de l'appareil.
Veillez à ce que la prise murale soit compatible avec la fiche du cordon

l'appareil. La libre circulation d'air est également essentielle pour la portion de l'appareil située à
l'extérieur de l'immeuble.
Emplacement de l'appareil
Votre climatiseur fonctionnera plus efficacement si vous l'installez dans une fenêtre ou dans un mur situé
à l'ombre d'un arbre ou d'un autre édifice. L'utilisation de rideaux ou stores du côté ensoleillé de
l'immeuble améliorera le rendement de l'appareil.
Isolation
Une bonne isolation permettra de maintenir le niveau de confort souhaité. Les portes devraient com-
porter un coupebrise. Veillez à bien calfeutrer le périmètre des portes et fenêtres.

ARRÉTEZ LE CLIMATISEUR ET RETIREZ LA FICHE DU CORDON D'ALIMENTATION DE LA PRISE MURALE.
•Dépose du filtre à air
1.Retirez la grille avant en saisissant les rebords supérieurs
latéraux et en tirant vers vous (voir Fig. 1). Vous constaterez
que la grille ne s'ouvre que sur environ 56°. Ne la forcez pas
à ouvrir plus grandement.
2. Repérez les deux dispositifs de maintien du filtre à air.

•Nettoyage du filtre
1. Nettoyez le filtre avec de l'eau tiède. Veillez à bien l'essorer

avant de le réinsérer dans l'appareil.

2. Alignez soigneusement le filtre, rebord inférieur en premier,
et cliquez-le en place. Pour une meilleure efficacité, nous
recommandons de nettoyer le filtre au moins aux deux semaines.
•Nettoyage du climatiseur
Vous pouvez nettoyer la grille avant et la grille d'admission d'air à
l'aide d'un linge légèrement humecté d'une solution d'eau tiède
et de détergent doux. (Fig. 2) Vous pouvez nettoyer le boîtier à
l'aide d'une solution d'eau tiède et de détergent/savon doux.
Afin de maintenir l'efficacité maximum de l'appareil, contrôlez
périodiquement le serpentin de condensation (à l'extérieur de
l'appareil) et nettoyez-le si vous constatez qu'il est encrassé de
suie et de saletés contenues dans l'atmosphère. Pour plus
d'information, contactez un représentant de service autorisé
Friedrich.

•Dépose de la grille avant
1. Retirez les boutons des sélecteurs de mode et de température
en les tirant doucement. (Fig. 3)
2. Déposez la vis de fixation de la grille avant (Fig. 3). La vis se situe
en arrière du bouton du sélecteur de température.

3. Poussez la grille de bas en haut et écartez le haut de la grille du boîtier
afin de retirer les languettes supérieures de leurs fentes (Fig. 4).
4. Alignez soigneusement la grille, rebord inférieur en premier,
et cliquez-la en place.

Exigences concernant la fenêtre
NOTE :
Tous les éléments d'installation doivent être fixés à du bois, de la maçonnerie ou
du métal sain et solide.
1.Cet appareil est conçu pour installation dans une fenêtre à guillotine à deux vantaux mobiles
standards, comportant une ouverture libre de 56 cm à 91.4 cm (22" à 36"). Les vantaux
supérieur et inférieur doivent s'ouvrir suffisamment pour dégager une ouverture verticale de
35.5 cm (13") entre le rebord inférieur du vantail et le seuil de la fenêtre.
2. Si la présence d'une contre-fenêtre fait obstacle, fixez une latte de bois de 5 cm (2") sur la
pleine largeur du seuil de fenêtre intérieur. La latte de bois devra être assez épaisse pour
relever la hauteur du seuil de fenêtre suffisamment pour empêcher la contre-fenêtre de
nuire à l'installation de l'appareil. (Voyez la fig. 5-2. Le dessus de la latte de bois devrait être
2 cm (3/4") plus haut que le cadre de la contre-fenêtre ou que la latte de bois extérieure, afin
de permettre l'évacuation appropriée de la condensation vers l'extérieur.
3. Installez une deuxième latte de bois (environ 15 cm [6"] de long X 4 cm [11/2"] de large et
de même épaisseur que la première) au centre du seuil extérieur et affleurant l'arrière
du seuil intérieur. Ceci élèvera les étriers en L illustrés à la Fig. 5-2.
4. Si l'écart entre le CADRE DE CONTRE-FENÊTRE et la LATTE DE BOIS INSTALLÉE
SUR LE SEUIL INTÉRIEUR est supériure à 2.5 cm (1"), une seule latte suffit.

A. AVANT INSTALLATION
1.Insérez les guides des volets d'étanchéité dans
les rails de guidage fixés au climatiseur. Fixez
les volets d'étanchéité à l'appareil à l'aide de vis
de Type A tel qu'illustré à la Fig. 6.

2. Coupez la bande d'étanchéité préencollée
(TYPE D) à la largeur de la fenêtre.
Retirez la pellicule protectrice de la bande
d'étanchéité et collez la bande sur la face

7. Vous avez maintenant terminé l'installation du climatiseur

Arrêtez le climatiseur, débranchez le cordon d'alimentation, déposez l'étrier en L et les vis installées en
haut et en bas des volets d'étanchéité, et conservez-les pour la réinstallation ultérieure de l'appareil. Fermez
les volets d'étanchéité. Maintenez fermement le climatiseur, levez le vantail et inclinez soigneusement le
climatiseur vers l'arrière afin d'évacuer toute condensation résiduelle. Soulevez le climatiseur du seuil de
la fenêtre et retirez la bande d'étanchéité pour vantail située entre les vantaux.

Fonctionnement normal
Il se peut que vous entendiez un cliquetis du au giclement d'eau sur le condenseur lors de journées
pluvieuses ou à cause d'un haut niveau d'humidité. Cette caractéristique conceptuelle aide à
déshumidifier l'air et améliorer l'efficacité de l'appareil.

TOUTES LES PIÈCES - Si, dans les 12 mois suivant la date d’achat initial, une pièce fournie par FRIEDRICH est défectueuse à cause
d’un défaut de main d’oeuvre ou de matériel, FRIEDRICH réparera le produit gratuitement, pourvu qu’il soit raisonnablement facile
d’obtenir accès au climatiseur pour le réparer.Toute main d ’oeuvre nécessaire pour déposer des appareils d ’accès difficile et/ou les frais
de déplacement (kilométrage) par le centre de réparation, au delà de 25 miles (40km) dans une seule direction, sont la responsabilité du

Introducción
Antes de poner en funcionamiento a su unidad
Asegurese de que el cableado electrico sea el adecuado para la unidad.
Si tiene fusibles, estos deben ser del tipo de accion retardada. Antes de instalar o trasladar a esta unidad,
asegurese de que la clasificacion de amperaje del fusible de accion retardada o que el retardo del cortacircuito
no exceda la clasificacion de amperaje mostrada en la figura 1.
NO use una extension de cable.
El cable suministrado tiene la capacidad correcta para llevar la energ a electrica a la unidad; una extension
no sera suficiente.
Asegurese de que el tomacorriente sea compatible con el enchufe
suministrado.
Esto asegura una correcta conexion a tierra. Si tiene un receptaculo de dos clavijas usted debera hacer que
ese circuito sea reemplazado por un electricista certificado con un circuito con conexion a tierra que cumpla
con todos los codigos y ordenanzas tanto nacionales como locales. Usted debe utilizar el enchufe de tres
clavijas que se suministra con el acondicionador de aire.

Mantenga el filtro limpio
Asegurese de que su acondicionador de aire este siempre en la mejor condicion para enfriar, limpiando
regularmente el filtro.
Las instrucciones para retirar y limpiar el filtro pueden ser encontradas en la pagina 6.
Proporcione una buena circulacion del aire
Asegurese de que haya un libre flujo del aire que entra y sale de la unidad. Su acondicionador de aire
expele el aire hacia afuera por la parte de arriba de la unidad y absorbe aire por el fondo. Un buen flujo
del aire es cr tico para obtener un buen funcionamiento. As mismo, es importante que no existan blo-qu-
eos al flujo de aire alrededor de la unidad, en el exterior del edificio.
Ubicación de la unidad
La unidad funcionara aun mas eficientemente si se la puede colocar en una ventana o pared que este a la
sombra de un arbol o de otro edificio. Usar cortinas o persianas en el lado soleado de la vivienda tambien
aumentara la eficiencia de su unidad.
Aislamiento
Un buen aislamiento sera de gran ayuda para mantener unos niveles de comodidad deseables. Las puertas
deben tener tiras sellantes de proteccion contra la intemperie. Asegurese de calafatear alrededor de las pue-
r-tas y ventanas.

1. Ponga el interruptor del Modo en Mucho Frio(Hi Cool) o en Poco Frio(Low Cool).
2. Con el Control de la temperatura seleccione la temperatura deseada (para empezar es bueno
colocarlo en el punto medio). Si luego de un tiempo razonable la temperatura de la habitacion
todav a no esta satisfactoria, ajuste el control a una posicion mas fresca o mas abrigada segun,
sea necesario.
• PARA UN ENFRIAMIENTO MAXIMO
1. Ponga el interruptor del Modo en la posicion de Mucho Frio.
2. Ponga el control de la temperatura en el punto de la temperatura mas fresca (completamente a la derecha).
• PARA UNA OPERACIÓN MAS SILENCIOSA
1. Ponga el interruptor del Modo en la posición de Poco Frio

2. Ponga el control de la Temperatura en el punto que sea necesario.
PRECAUCION
Cuando el acondicionador de aire haya terminado de enfriar la habitación y haya sido apagado
o puesto en la posición del ventilador, espere por lo menos 3 minutos antes de volver a reiniciar
la operaci n de enfriamiento.

Requerimientos de la ventana
NOTA: Todas las piezas de soporte deben ser aseguradas a madera sólida, mampos-
teria, o metal.
1. Esta unidad ha sido diseñada para ser instalada en ventanas estándar de dos hojas que
tengan aberturas reales de 22 a 36 pulgadas. Las hojas, superior e inferior, deben abrirse lo
suficiente para permitir un espacio vertical libre de 13 pulgadas desde el fondo de la hoja
hasta el asiento de la ventana.
2. Si hay interferencia de una ventana para tormenta, instale una tira de madera de 2 pulgadas
de ancho al alféizar interior de la ventana y a todo lo ancho. La tira de madera debe ser lo
suficientemente gruesa para elevar la altura del alféizar de la ventana de modo que la unidad
pueda ser instalada sin interferencia del marco de la ventana de tormenta. Ver Fig. 5-2. La
parte superior de la tira de madera debe estar aproximadamente 3/4 de pulgada más alta
que el marco de la ventana para tormenta (EN MARCO DE VENTANA DE TORMENTA) o
que las tiras de madera (EN EL EXTERIOR) para ayudar a que la condensación drene
correctamente hacia afuera.
3. Instale una segunda tira de madera (de aproximadamente 6 pulgadas de largo por 1 1/2
de ancho y del mismo espesor que el de la primera tira) en el centro del alféizar exterior a
ras con el borde trasero del alféizar interior. Esto elevará la posición de los soportes en "L"
como se muestra en la figura 5-2.
4. Si la distancia entre el MARCO DE LA VENTANA DE TORMENTA y la tira DE MADERA
MONTADA SOBRE EL ALFÉIZAR INTERIOR es de más de 1 pulgada, no es necesario
poner dos tiras de madera.

Extienda los paneles con gu as (TIPO F) hasta cubrir el-
