Rubber   gloves and non-slip footwear are recommended when   working outdoors. If you have long hair, wear a protective   hair covering.   General safety instructions   To use this tool properly, you must observe the safety   regulations, the assembly instructions and the operating   instructions to be found in this Manual. All persons who use   and service the machine have to be acquainted with this   Manual and must be informed about its potential hazards.   Children and infirm people must not use this tool. Children   should be supervised at all times if they are in the area in   which the tool is being used. It is also imperative that you   observe the accident prevention regulations in force in your   area. The same applies for general rules of occupational   health and safety.   8. Use safety accessories. Safety glasses and earmuffs   should always be worn. A face or dust mask is also   required if the sanding operation creates dust.   9. Do not abuse the power cord. Never pull the cord to   disconnect the tool from the power point. Keep the cord   away from heat, oil and sharp edges.   10. Secure the work piece. Use clamps or a vice to hold   the work piece. It is safer than using your hand and   frees both hands to operate the tool.   WARNING. When using power tools, basic safety   precautions should always be taken to reduce the risk of   fire, electric shock and personal injury. Also, please read   and heed the advice given in the additional important   safety instructions.   11. Do not overreach. Keep your footing secure and   balanced at all times.   12. Look after your tools. Keep tools sharp and clean for   better and safer performance. Follow the instructions   regarding lubrication and accessory changes. Inspect   tool cords periodically and, if damaged, have them   repaired by an authorised service facility. Inspect   extension cords periodically and replace them if   damaged. Keep tool handles dry, clean and free   from oil and grease.   1. Keep the work area clean and tidy. Cluttered work   areas and benches invite accidents and injury.   2. Consider the environment in which you are working.   Do not use power tools in damp or wet locations. Keep   the work area well lit. Do not expose power tools to rain.   Do not use power tools in the presence of flammable   liquids or gases.   3. Keep visitors away from the work area. All visitors and   onlookers, especially children and infirm persons, should   be kept well away from where you are working. Do not   let others in the vicinity make contact with the tool or   extension cord.   13. Disconnect idle tools. Switch off the power and   disconnect the plug from the power point before   servicing, when changing accessories and when the   tool is not in use.   14. Remove adjusting keys and wrenches. Check to see   that keys and adjusting wrenches are removed from the   tool before switching on.   4. Store tools safely. When not in use, tools should be   locked up out of reach.   5. Do not force the tool. The tool will do the job better and   safer working at the rate for which it was designed.   15. Avoid unintentional starting. Always check that the   switch is in the OFF position before plugging in the tool   to the power supply. Do not carry a plugged in tool with   your finger on the switch.   6. Use the correct tool for the job. Do not force small   tools or attachments to do the job best handled by a   heavier duty tool. Never use a tool for a purpose for   which it was not intended.   16. All Manuals Search And Download.   • Replace damaged cutting wheel before operating.   • Do not fill water compartment above water fill line.   17. Stay alert. Watch what you are doing. Use common   sense. Do not operate a power tool when you are tired.   18. Check for damaged parts. Before using a tool, check   that there are no damaged parts. If a part is slightly   damaged, carefully determine if it will operate properly   and perform its intended function. Check for alignment   of moving parts, binding of moving parts, breakage   of parts, proper mounting and any other conditions   that may affect the operation of the tool. A part that is   damaged should be properly repaired or replaced by an   authorised service facility, unless otherwise indicated in   this Instruction Manual.   • Ensure that the directional arrow marked on the blade   corresponds with the rotational direction of the motor.   • With the machine disconnected from the power supply,   rotate the blade by hand to ensure it is free from   obstruction.   • Always keep the blade-securing nut and flanges clean.   • Ensure that the blade-securing nut is securely tightened   with the wrenches provided.   • Never try to cut freehand. Always ensure that the tile to   be cut is pressed firmly against the rip fence.   Defective switches must be replaced by an authorised   service facility. Do not use a tool if the switch does not   turn the tool on and off correctly.   • Ensure that the piece of tile that will be cut off has   sufficient room to move sideways. Failure to do so may   result in the off cut binding against the blade.   19. Guard against electric shock. Prevent body contact   with grounded objects such as water pipes, radiators,   cookers and refrigerator enclosures.   • Never cut more than one tile at a time.   • Never cut pieces too small to be held securely against   the rip fence without leaving enough space for the hand   to be a safe distance from the blade.   20. Use only approved parts. When servicing, use only   identical replacement parts. Use an authorised service   facility to fit replacement parts.   • Ensure that the table and surrounding area are clear   with the exception of the tile to be cut.   Additional safety rules for tile cutting saws   • Before cutting a piece of tile let the saw blade run freely   for a few seconds. If it makes an unfamiliar sound   or vibrates excessively switch it off immediately and   disconnect from the power supply.   Always connect the machine to a correctly earthed   power supply.   SAFETY SWITCH. The unit is fitted with a 30 mA residual   current circuit breaker (RCD) for extra protection against   electric shock.   • Let the blade reach full speed before starting the cut.   • Let the blade come to a complete stop before removing   any jammed or off cut material from around the blade area.   • For your own safety read instruction manual before   operating saw   • Never allow the blade to run dry. Failure to keep the   water compartment topped up will result in possible over-   heating of the diamond blade and a poor cut in the tile.   • Wear eye protection.   • Use top blade guard for every operation for which it can   be used.   • Disconnect saw before servicing, when changing cutting   wheels, and cleaning.   • Use tool only with smooth edge cutting wheels free of   openings and grooves.   5 Download from Www.Somanuals.com. All Manuals Search And Download.   Additional safety rules   when using water   cooling system   The Sliding Tile Cutting Saw   has been fitted with a Residual   Current Device (RCD) safety   switch designed to immediately   switch the electricity off if a fault   is detected to avoid   Testing your safety switch   IMPORTANT. Ensure the RCD is tested upon every use.   It is essential that the safety switch is tested to ensure it   is functioning correctly. We strongly recommend that this   procedure is conducted without fail before every use.   1. Plug your RCD device into a fixed 230-240Vac ~ 50Hz   power wall socket outlet and switch on.   WARNING. The RCD device should be connected directly to   a mains socket outlet only, never connect your RCD device   to an extension cord.   the risk of a potentially   fatal shock.   2. To set the RCD into the ON   position, press the green   “RESET” button. The “RED   ON” illuminator will then   transform from a clear colour   to a red colour.   WARNING. To be   effective, the RCD   must ALWAYS be   in good working   condition. (see   ‘Testing your safety   switch’ for further   details).   3. Press the “TEST” button.   Doing this will make the RCD   device trip immediately, and   • The RCD device is not designed for outdoor use,   INDOOR USE ONLY   will remove the flow of power   to the connected appliance. It   then will change the “RED ON”   illuminator to a clear colour, if   this occurs it confirms that the   RCD device is operational.   If the RCD device does not trip   as per the explanation above,   please contact the GMC help line for assistance.   • Electricity can be dangerous, the use of an RCD device   should not be regarded as a substitute for basic electrical   safety precautions   • You must unplug all equipment to achieve isolation before   any inspection or repair of that equipment is attempted   • Please seek advice from an electrical contractor or   a GMC Technical service person if the RCD device   repeatedly trips, or fails to trip in accordance with the   instructions provided   4. Upon tripping, you must reset RCD to the “ON” position.   Press the green “RESET” button, the “RED ON” illuminator   will transform from a clear colour to a red colour.   • Never immerse your RCD device in water, and do not   expose the unit to rain   IMPORTANT. If your RCD device does not operate correctly   in accordance with the instructions provided, you must stop   using the device and contact the GMC help line.   • Do not connect your RCD device to an extension cord   • You must take proper care of your RCD device, take care   not to drop it on hard surfaces as it may crack and/or   damage the internal components   6 Download from Www.Somanuals.com. To avoid the possibility   of the appliance plug or   receptacle getting wet,   position tile saw to one   side of a wall mounted   receptacle to prevent   water from dripping onto   the receptacle or plug. The user should arrange a “drip   loop” in the cord connecting the saw to a receptacle.   The “drip loop” is that part of the cord below the level   of the receptacle, or the connector if an extension cord   is used, to prevent water travelling along the cord and   coming in contact with the receptacle.   A philips head screw driver is required to assemble the   support arms.   �����������������   Unpacking   Due to modern mass production techniques, it is unlikely   that your GMC Power Tool is faulty or that a part is missing.   If you find anything wrong, do not operate the tool until the   parts have been replaced or the fault has been rectified.   Failure to do so could result in serious personal injury.   ���������   1. Remove all loose parts from the carton.   2. Remove the packing materials from around the saw.   3. Carefully lift the saw from the carton and place it on a   level work surface.   2. If water is present have an electrician complete any   necessary work or repairs. All Manuals Search And Download.   Transportation information   IMPORTANT   The unit is prepared for transit so before operation.   Turn the unit onto its side.   Whilst in this position fit the   extension legs, make sure   they are in line with the blade.   Filling the water compartment   1. The water compartment (5)   is incorporated into the main   housing.   2. The water helps to cool the   cutting disc and also limits   the amount of dust produced   during the cutting process.   Turn the unit back onto its   support legs.   3. Fill the water compartment   with water. The maximum   water level is automatically   controlled by the drainage   hole in the housing. When   the water level exceeds the   maximum level water will flow   out through the hole.   Pull out the transit pin and this   will allow the table top   to slide on its runners.   Blade guard   The blade guard (3) provides   protection from both sides of   the blade.   With the power disconnected,   ensure that the guard moves   freely and drops to the sliding   table surface when let go.   Note. With extensive use, should   check water level regularly.   4. Always fill the water compartment   to the top of the water fill line   to ensure the cutting disc is   sufficiently cooled.   Turning on and off   1. To switch the saw ON press the Green ‘I’ on the switch.   The Red flap can also be raised to gain access to the   ON button.   5. To empty the tank and clean   the unit remove the bung at   the bottom of the tank and let   the water drain into a suitable   container and dispose of.   2. All Manuals Search And Download.   Making a mitre cut   Operation   1. Make sure the unit is switched OFF whilst setting up a   mitre cut.   Making a straight cut   1. Draw back the table so   there is sufficient space on   the table for the tile.   2. Pull back the table so the mitre cut can be lined up with   the blade.   3. Secure the mitre blocks to rear face of the sliding table.   2. Remove the mitre blocks   3. Line up the cut with the   blade using the scale on   the table.   4. Clamp the work piece in   place using the clamps.   Note. Ensure the tile is not   touching the blade on start up.   5. Switch ON the unit give it a   couple of seconds to reach   full speed and then gently   push the table forward to   the blade until the work   piece is cut through.   4. Screw down the clamps into   the surface of the mitre blocks.   5. Clamp down the work piece   onto the sliding table.   6. Switch ON the unit and wait   for it to reach full speed.   6. Pull back the table and   undo the clamps and   7. Slowly push the table forward   until the cut is complete.   remove the cut workpiece.   Note. Do not force the tile   into the blade too quickly or   with excessive force, allow the   blade to do the work.   8. Always ensure that the tool is switched off and   the plug is removed from the power point before making   and adjustments or maintenance procedures.   1. Secure the mitre blocks into   the sliding table and handle   bracket.   2. The fixing screws in the   middle and nearest slots   for ease of assembly and   tightening the wing nuts later.   When you have finished cutting your tiles, always   disconnect the power, empty the water and fully clean   and dry the machine.   Installing a blade   DANGER.   3. Secure bevel plate to the   mitre blocks using the   counter sunk machine   screws.   • Never try to use a blade larger than the stated capacity   of the saw. It will come into contact with the blade guard.   • Never use a blade that is too thick to allow the outer   blade washer to engage with the flats on the spindle.   It will prevent the blade screw from properly securing   the blade on the spindle.   4. Slide tile clamps into the   bevel plate. Clamp the work   piece down so it resting on   the sliding table surface.   1. Adjustments are only to be   made with the power off, the   tool disconnected from the   mains supply and when the   blade has fully stopped.   5. Move the plate so in line   with the blade and then   clamp and tighten the screw   holding the mitre blocks.   6. Once set up turn on the   unit wait a few seconds   until reached full speed   then slowly slide the table   forward.   2. Using a screw driver   remove the three screws   that hold the metal plate   over the water tank.   7. Once the cut is complete   slide the table back and   switch OFF the motor and   remove work piece.   3. Remove the blade cover (3).   11   Download from Www.Somanuals.com. Take the 2 spanners and   use the flat spanner to   locate into the holes in the   flange and keep the blade   still, and use the socket   spanner over the nut and   turn anti clockwise.   Cleaning   1. Keep the tool’s air vents unclogged and clean at all times.   2. Remove dust and dirt regularly. Cleaning is best done   with a soft brush or a rag.   3. Re-lubricate all moving parts at regular intervals.   4. Never use caustic agents to clean plastic parts.   5. Remove the nut, outer blade   flange and blade.   CAUTION. Do not use cleaning agents to clean the   plastic parts of the saw. A mild detergent on a damp   cloth is recommended.   6. Wipe a drop of oil onto the inner blade flange and the   outer blade flange where they contact the blade.   General inspection   Regularly check that all the fixing screws are tight. They   may vibrate loose over time.   Repairs   Only an authorised service centre should replace the   cordset. If the cordset is damaged or worn, have it repaired   or replaced by an authorised service centre.   Power cord and RCD maintenance   IMPORTANT. Ensure the RCD is tested upon every use.   It is essential that the safety switch is tested to ensure it is   functioning correctly. We strongly recommend that a test of   the RCD is conducted without fail before each use. Refer to   Testing your safety switch.   7. Fit the new blade onto the spindle taking care that the   inner blade flange sits behind the blade.   CAUTION. Always install the blade with the arrow printed on   the side of the blade pointing down. The direction of blade   rotation is also marked on the blade guard and blade cover.   If the power cord or RCD needs replacing, the task must   be carried out by the manufacturer, the manufacturer’s   agent, or a qualified electrical repairer in order to avoid a   safety hazard.   8. Replace the outer blade flange followed by the blade nut.   9. Use the blade spanner to securely tighten the blade bolt.   (Tighten in a clockwise direction).   10. Replace the blade cover and secure it with the blade   cover locking knobs.   CAUTION. Before using the saw after replacing the blade,   check that all the safety devices are fitted correctly including   the blade guard and that they are all in good working order.   Run the saw without loading it to ensure the blade runs true   and there are no extraneous noises.   12   Download from Www.Somanuals.com.
