HOW TO USE YOUR JUG KETTLE
1. Kettle should always be unplugged when filling or adding water.
2. Fill the kettle with water to the desired level. Do not overfill. If kettle is overfilled there is
a risk of spillage or spitting. The kettle lid may be removed for filling if desired. The
water level indicator will assist you to measure correct amount. (See Figure 1).
3. Place kettle on a dry, flat surface. Ensure lid is in place securely.
4. Never operate the kettle with less than one cup (250 mL) of water or without lid
securely in place.
5. For auto-off model JKA300 only, connect cordset into socket on the kettle just below
the handle (See Figure 2). This is not required on the JK200 and JKA350 models as
cord set is permanently fixed to kettle.
6. Insert plug into a grounded 120V 60Hz power outlet. CAUTION: Do not place kettle
on a heated stove, or on a hot electric or gas burner. For auto-off models JKA300
and JKA350 depress the on/off switch button on top of the kettle to the ON (-) position.
(see Figure 3). No switching is required for JK200.
7. When the water has boiled, the kettle will switch off automatically (auto-off JKA300 and
JKA350 models only). After a short delay the water can be brought back to a boil by
resetting the switch back to the ON (-) position. The JK200 model kettle must be
unplugged manually upon reaching a full boil. DO NOT ALLOW THE KETTLE TO BOIL
DRY (See special instructions - clause 4 if this occurs).
8. The auto-off JKA300 and JKA350 model kettles may be switched off at any time by
either pushing the switch on top of kettle to the “OFF” position or by manually
unplugging unit at electrical wall outlet at the power outlet. The JK200 model kettle
must be switched off by manually unplugging the unit.
9. Always unplug your kettle from electrical power outlet before pouring. The cordset on
your JKA300 may be removed from the kettle for handling and pouring convenience.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR JUG KETTLE
Wipe the durable polypropylene exterior and lid of the Kettle with a soft, damp cloth or
sponge. Remove stubborn spots with a cloth moistened with mild liquid detergent. Do not
use abrasive scouring pads or powders. NEVER IMMERSE KETTLE BODY IN WATER
OR OTHER LIQUIDS. From time to time, dependent on the nature of your water, mineral
deposits can build up on the inside of your kettle reducing boiling speed and efficiency. You
can remove this build-up by using a commercial descaler (available at Black & Decker
Authorized Service Depots) or by using vinegar and water in the following manner:
• Half fill the Kettle with ordinary tap water.
• Add 30 mL (1 fluid oz.) of white vinegar to the water in the Kettle.
• Boil the mixture and allow it to stand for 30 minutes. Reboil the mixture and allow it to
stand for a further 30 seconds. Repeat procedure again for a third time. (Note: In extreme
cases this procedure may have to be repeated).
• Empty, rinse well and use in the normal way.
NOTE : Some type mineral deposits cannot be removed with a vinegar solution. Check
your element surface for scale removal and use commercial descaler if necessary.
