DANGER

Handling:
Your colour monitor is heavy, so handle it with care. If heavier than 18 Kg, IBM

Warning on power connection
Precautions
• Use an appropriate power cord for your local power
supply.
Installation
• Prevent internal heat build-up by allowing adequate air
circulation. Do not place the monitor on surfaces (rugs,
blankets, etc.) or near materials (curtains, draperies) that
may block the ventilation holes.
Examples of plug types:
• Do not install the monitor near heat sources such as
radiators or air ducts, or in a place subject to direct
sunlight, excessive dust, mechanical vibration or shock.
• Do not place the monitor near equipment which generates
magnetism, such as a transformer or high voltage power
lines.

• Before disconnecting the power cord, wait at least 30
seconds after turning off the power to allow the static
electricity on the CRT display surface to discharge.
• After the power has been turned on, the CRT is
demagnetized (degaussed) for about 5 seconds. This

which may affect the data stored on magnetic tapes and
disks near the bezel. Place magnetic recording equipment,
tapes and disks away from this monitor.
Maintenance
• Clean the cabinet, panel and controls with a soft cloth
lightly moistened with a mild detergent solution. Do not
use any type of abrasive pad, scouring powder or solvent,
such as alcohol or benzine.
• Do not rub, touch, or tap the surface of the screen with
sharp or abrasive items such as a ballpoint pen or
screwdriver. This type of contact may result in a scratched
picture tube.
The outlet should be installed near the equipment
and be easily accessible.
• Clean the screen with a soft cloth. If you use a glass
cleaning liquid, do not use any type of cleaner
containing an anti-static solution or similar additive as
this may scratch the screen’s coating.
Transportation
When you transport this monitor for repair or shipment, use
the original carton and packing materials.
Use of the Tilt-Swivel
With the tilt-swivel, this monitor can be adjusted to the
desired angle within 180° horizontally and 20° vertically.
To turn the monitor vertically and horizontally, hold it at
the bottom with both hands as illustrated below.

If the video signal cable is not connected, the “NO INPUT
SIGNAL” message (page 15) appears. After 30 seconds, the power
saving function automatically puts the monitor into the active-off
mode and the u indicator lights up orange. Once the horizontal

resumes its normal operation mode.

This monitor complies with the DDC 1 and DDC2B
Display Data Channel (DDC) standards of VESA.
When a DDC1 host system is connected, the monitor
synchronizes with the V. CLK in accordance with the VESA
standards and outputs the EDID (Extended Display
Identification Data) to the data line.
When viewing a white background, very thin horizontal
lines may be visible on the screen as shown below. These
lines are the shadows of the damper wires and are
characteristic of CRTs that use aperture grilles. The wires
are attached to the aperture grille on the inside of the
Trinitron tube and prevent the vibration of the aperture
grille.
When a DDC2B host system is connected, the monitor
automatically switches to the appropriate standard.

the monitor, or you change the direction of the monitor, color may lose uniformity.
The degauss function demagnetizes the metal frame of the CRT to obtain a neutral
field for uniform color reproduction. If a second degauss cycle is needed, allow a
minimum interval of 20 minutes for the best result.

• If you have another monitor close to this monitor, increase the distance between them
to reduce the interference.
Picture bounces or has wavy

• Try plugging the monitor into a different AC outlet, preferably on a different circuit.
• Try the monitor on a different computer in a different room.
• Set the refresh rate on the computer to obtain the best possible picture by referring to
your computer’s manual.
Picture is flickering
• Eliminate the use of video cable extensions and/or video switch boxes if this symptom
occurs. Excessive cable length or a weak connection can produce this symptom.

The warranties provided by IBM in this Statement of Limited Warranty apply only to Machines you originally purchase for
your use, and not for resale, from IBM or your reseller. The term “Machine” means an IBM machine, its features, conversions,
upgrades, elements, or accessories, or any combination of them. Unless IBM specifies otherwise, the following warranties
apply only in the country where you acquire the Machine. If you have any questions, contact IBM or your reseller.

Production Status
Each Machine is manufactured from new parts, or new and used parts. In some cases, the Machine may not be new and may
have been previously installed. Regardless of the Machine’s production status, IBM’s warranty terms apply.
The IBM Warranty for Machines
IBM warrants that each Machine 1) is free from defects in materials and workmanship and 2) conforms to IBM’s Official
Published Specifications. The warranty period for a Machine is a specified, fixed period commencing on its Date of
Installation. The date on your receipt is the Date of Installation, unless IBM or your reseller informs you otherwise.
During the warranty period IBM or your reseller, if authorized by IBM, will provide warranty service under the type of service
designated for the Machine and will manage and install engineering changes that apply to the Machine.
For IBM or your reseller to provide warranty service for a feature, conversion, or upgrade, IBM or your reseller may require
that the Machine on which it is installed be 1) for certain Machines, the designated, serial-numbered Machine and 2) at an
engineering-change level compatible with the feature, conversion, or upgrade. Many of these transactions involve the removal
of parts and their return to IBM. You represent that all removed parts are genuine and unaltered. A part that replaces a
removed part will assume the warranty service status of the replaced part.
If a Machine does not function as warranted during the warranty period, IBM or your reseller will repair it or replace it with
one that is at least functionally equivalent, without charge. The replacement may not be new, but will be in good working
order. If IBM or your reseller is unable to repair or replace the Machine, you may return it to your place of purchase and your
money will be refunded.
If you transfer a Machine to another user, warranty service is available to that user for the remainder of the warranty period.
You should give your proof of purchase and this Statement to that user. However, for Machines which have a life-time
warranty, this warranty is not transferable.
Warranty Service
To obtain warranty service for the Machine, you should contact your reseller or call IBM. In the United States, call IBM at 1-
800-772-2227. In Canada, call IBM at 1-800-565-3344. You may be required to present proof of purchase.
IBM or your reseller will provide certain types of repair and exchange service, either at your location or at IBM’s or your
reseller’s service center, to restore a Machine to good working order.
When a type of service involves the exchange of a Machine or part, the item IBM or your reseller replaces becomes its property
and the replacement becomes yours. You represent that all removed items are genuine and unaltered. The replacement may
not be new, but will be in good working order and at least functionally equivalent to the item replaced. The replacement
assumes the warranty service status of the replaced item. Before IBM or your reseller exchanges a Machine or part, you agree
to remove all features, parts, options, alterations, and attachments not under warranty service. You also agree to ensure that
the Machine is free of any legal obligations or restrictions that prevent its exchange.
You agree to:
1. obtain authorization from the owner to have IBM or your reseller service a Machine that you do not own; and
2. where applicable, before service is provided -
a) follow the problem determination, problem analysis, and service request procedures that IBM or your reseller provide,
b) secure all programs, data, and funds contained in a Machine, and
c) inform IBM or your reseller of changes in a Machine’s location.
IBM is responsible for loss of, or damage to, your Machine while it is 1) in IBM’s possession or 2) in transit in those cases
where IBM is responsible for the transportation charges.

IBM warrants this IBM product to be in good working order and
conforms to its officially published IBM specifications for a period of
three years from the date of first purchase by an end-user customer.
Note: Batteries for Mobile products are limited to 1 year warranty.
Your sales receipt or authorised dated and stamped warranty service
certificate is proof of your entitlement to warranty service.
If this product is not in good working order, IBM will, at its option,
repair or replace this product at no additional charge except as set
forth below. Repair parts and replacement products will be provided
on an exchange basis and will be either new, equivalent to new or
reconditioned. All replaced parts and products become the property
of IBM. This warranty does not cover the repair of damage to the
product resulting from:
Accident, disaster, misuse and abuse
Use of parts not manufactured or sold by IBM
Modification of the product
Service provided by anyone other than IBM or an authorised IBM
service provider.
IBM does not warrant that the functions in any preloaded program

Warranty Performance
Warranty service may be obtained by returning the product during
warranty period to an authorised IBM service provider and by
providing proof of your warranty service entitlement. You are
responsible for any associated transportation charges and insurance
during shipment and return.
For a product purchased in a group A country (as defined), warranty
service may be obtained from any authorised IBM service provider in
any group A country; similarly for a product purchased in a group B
country, warranty service may be obtained from any authorised IBM
service provider in any group B country.

Some IBM products are sold with a service entitlement which is
delivered on the customers premises (on-site). If the product you
have purchased carries with it an entitlement to IBM on-site service,

following terms and conditions:
The product must have been announced as qualifying for
On-Site Service in the country in which Warranty Service is being
claimed.
You must contact a local authorised IBM service provider and
be prepared to supply proof of warranty entitlement. The

authorised IBM service provider will attempt to resolve your
problem over the telephone. If this is not possible, a trained
service engineer will be dispatched to your location to repair the
IBM product.
The service representative must be provided with full access to
the equipment reported as faulty.
The equipment must be located within 50 kilometers (or more
depending on country) of the authorised IBM service provider.
Liability
IBM shall have no liability for lost profits or other consequential
damages, even if advised of the possibility of such damages, or for
any claim by any third party. IBM's total liability for a breach or
breaches of this warranty by IBM is limited to 100,000 US Dollars of
direct damages. This financial limitation of liability will not apply to
claims for death or personal injury or damage to real or personal
property caused by IBM negligence.
General

International Warranty Service
IBM International hardware warranty service is available for those
customers, travelling to countries in which their PC products are
announced and sold by IBM or IBM resellers, upon registering with
IBM International Warranty Service Office. IBM International

of purchase. Service outside the country of purchase will be provided

Congratulations! You have just purchased a TCO’95 approved and labelled product! Your choice has provided you with a product
developed for professional use. Your purchase has also contributed to reducing the burden on the environment and also, to the further
development of environmentally adapted electronics products.
Why do we have environmentally labelled computers?
In many countries, environmental labelling has become an established method for encouraging the adaptation of goods and services to the
environment. The main problem, as far as computers and other electronics equipment are concerned, is that environmentally harmful
substances are used both in the products and during the manufacturing. Since it has not been possible for the majority of electronics
equipment to be recycled in a satisfactory way, most of these potentially damaging substances sooner or later enter Nature.
There are also other characteristics of a computer, such as energy consumption levels, that are important from the viewpoints of both
the work (internal) and natural (external) environments. Since all methods of conventional electricity generation have a negative effect on
the environment (acidic and climate-influencing emissions, radioactive waste, etc.), it is vital to conserve energy. Electronics equipment in
offices consume an enormous amount of energy since they are often left running continuously.
What does labelling involve?
This product meets the requirements for the TCO’95 scheme which provides for international and environmental labelling of personal
computers. The labelling scheme was developed as a joint effort by the TCO (The Swedish Confederation of Professional Employees),
Naturskyddsforeningen (The Swedish Society for Nature Conservation) and NUTEK (The National Board for Industrial and Technical
Development in Sweden).
The requirements cover a wide range of issues: environment, ergonomics, usability, emission of electrical and magnetic fields, energy
consumption and electrical and fire safety.
The environmental demands concern restrictions on the presence and use of heavy metals, brominated and chlorinated flame
retardants, CFCs (freons) and chlorinated solvents, among other things. The product must be prepared for recycling and the manufacturer
is obliged to have an environmental plan which must be adhered to in each country where the company implements its operational policy.
The energy requirements include a demand that the computer and/or display, after a certain period of inactivity, shall reduce its power
consumption to a lower level in one or more stages. The length of time to reactivate the computer shall be reasonable for the user.
Labelled products must meet strict environmental demands, for example, in respect of the reduction of electric and magnetic fields, physical
and visual ergonomics and good usability.

TCO’95 is a co-operative project between TCO (The Swedish Confederation of Professional Employees), Naturskyddsforeningen (The
Swedish Society for Nature Conservation) and NUTEK (The National Board for Industrial and Technical Development in Sweden).
Environmental Requirements
Brominated flame retardants
Brominated flame retardants are present in printed circuit boards, cables, wires, casings and housings. In turn, they delay the spread of fire.
Up to thirty percent of the plastic in a computer casing can consist of flame retardant substances. These are related to another group of
environmental toxins, PCBs, which are suspected to give rise to similar harm, including reproductive damage in fisheating birds and
mammals, due to the bio-accumulative* processes. Flame retardants have been found in human blood and researchers fear that
disturbances in foetus development may occur.
TCO’95 demand requires that plastic components weighing more that 25 grams must not contain organically bound chlorine and
bromine.
Lead**
Lead can be found in picture tubes, display screens, solders and capacitors. Lead damages the nervous system and in higher doses, causes
lead poisoning.
TCO’95 requirement permits the inclusion of lead since no replacement has yet been developed.
Cadmium**
Cadmium is present in rechargeable batteries and in the colourgenerating layers of certain computer displays. Cadmium damages the
nervous system and is toxic in high doses.
TCO’95 requirement states that batteries may not contain more than 25 ppm (parts per million) of cadmium. The colourgenerating
layers of display screens must not contain any cadmium.
Mercury**
Mercury is sometimes found in batteries, relays and switches. Mercury damages the nervous system and is toxic in high doses.
TCO’95 requirement states that batteries may not contain more than 25 ppm (parts per million) of mercury. It also demands that no
mercury is present in any of the electrical or electronics components concerned with the display unit.
CFCs (freons)
CFCs (freons) are sometimes used for washing printed circuit boards and in the manufacturing of expanded foam for packaging. CFCs
break down ozone and thereby damage the ozone layer in the stratosphere, causing increased reception on Earth of ultraviolet light with
consequent increased risks of skin cancer (malignant melanoma).
The relevant TCO’95 requirement: Neither CFCs nor HCFCs may be used during the manufacturing of the product or its packaging.
