Before you start using the R6530, please take a few moments to review these Frequently Asked Questions. They will help you become
acquainted with the technology and the capabilities of the DVD Recorder:
What can I record with my DVD recorder?
Where do I purchase discs? Are they expensive?
You can record programs directly from television (from your
antenna, basic cable, cable box or satellite receiver) and from vir-
tually any external audio/video source, including camcorders,
VCRs, DVD players and more. This unit will not copy Macrovi-
sion encoded or other copy protected material.
Blank DVD+R and DVD+RW discs are available at most elec-
tronics and office supply stores. Prices vary but DVD+Rs can gen-
erally be purchased in bulk for less than $1 each.
What format is the DVD recording saved in?
The actual video files are saved in MPEG-2 format.
What kind of discs should I use?
Can I record in "real time"? Is there a recording
buffer?
Yes, you can record from TV or from external video sources to the
DVD recorder in real time.
You can only record on DVD+R and DVD+RW discs. DVD+R/
+RW is the most compatible recordable DVD format on the mar-
ket today. They are fully compatible with over 95% of existing
DVD-Video players and DVD-ROM drives in computers.
Do I need to format a disc in order to record?
What is the capacity of a DVD+R and DVD+RW disc?
If a disc needs to be formatted, the DVD recorder will do it for
you automatically when you load the disc. This takes about a
minute and does not require any action on your part.
4.7GB, or the equivalent of roughly 6 CDs. You can record about
one hour at the highest quality (HQ) and about six hours at the
lowest quality (SLP) on a single disc.
What are Titles and Chapters?
What is the difference between DVD+R and
DVD+RW?
DVD+R is “recordable” and DVD+RW is “rewritable”. With a
DVD+R you can record multiple sessions on the same disc, but
when the disc is full, you cannot record any more on the disc. The
DVD+RW format allows you to record over the same disc literally
hundreds of times.
A DVD disc contains Titles and Chapters, which are similar to the
Titles and Chapters of a book. A Title is often a complete movie
and is broken down into Chapters, or individual scenes from the
movie. If a disc contains multiple Titles, they can be accessed by
pressing the Title button. To view the contents of a particular Title,
press the Disc Menu button.
How do I set up Titles and Chapters?
What is DVD-R and DVD-RW? Are they compatible
with this recorder?
DVD-R and DVD-RW (written with a dash instead of a plus) are
competing recordable DVD formats. You can play DVD-R/-RW
discs on this player, but they are not compatible for recording pur-
poses.
The DVD Recorder automatically creates a new Title every time
you start a new recording. You can then add Chapters to these
recordings manually or have them automatically inserted at 5-
minute intervals.
What does "finalizing" a disc do?
Finalizing a disc locks the discs so it can no longer be recorded. It
will then be compatible with virtually any DVD player. To close a
disc without finalizing it, simply stop recording and eject the disc.
You will still be able to record on the disc if there is room for more
recordings.
How do I know how much space is left on my disc
for recording?
Load the disc and press Disc Menu to see the percentage of
recording time remaining on your disc.

How good is the quality of the recording?
What are thumbnails? How do I create new thumb-
nails?
Thumbnails are single frames from your recordings used to iden-
tify each Title on the DVD+R/+RW disc menu. The DVD
Recorder allows you to create new thumbnails to represent the
shows you record.
There are five quality levels to choose from, ranging from HQ
(High Quality), which is near DVD quality to SLP (Standard Long
Play), which is near VHS quality. Choose the quality level that
best suits your purpose and the length of your material.
How many times can I record on a DVD+RW?
What does the Auto Chapter feature do?
Most disc manufacturers specify that you can record up to 1,000
times.
The Auto Chapter feature creates Chapters automatically every 5
minutes while you are recording. This makes it easy to browse the
Title later using the Next and Prev buttons.
What is the basic DVD recording process?
The basic recording process is to load a blank DVD+R or
DVD+RW disc, switch the DVD Recorder to Live mode, choose
the input source you wish to record, set the record quality, and
press RECORD.
How do I switch between playing and recording?
The DVD Recorder has two basic modes: Disc mode and Live
mode. To switch between these modes, press the Disc/Live button
on the remote control. Use Disc mode to play or edit discs. Use
Live mode to watch or record from TV or an external source (such
as a VCR, camcorder, satellite receiver, etc.) connected to the
front (Line 1) or rear (Line 2) audio/video inputs.
Will my DVDs be compatible in other players?
Yes. If you finalize the DVD it will be compatible with virtually
all new DVD players.
How do I hide commercials on my recorded shows?
Can I copy a DVD from an external player?
Yes, but only if the DVD is not copy protected.
The Hide and Show Chapter features are useful for hiding com-
mercials or unwanted footage from your recordings. Simply create
a new Chapter at the start of a commercial break, for example, and
create another Chapter at the end of the commercial grouping. You
can then Hide the commercial break during playback.
Can I copy a VHS tape from an external player?
Yes, but only if the VHS tape is not copy protected.
Can I copy from a camcorder?
Yes, you can copy from a camcorder or any external audio/video
device using the front or rear line inputs.
What is the difference between hiding a Chapter and
removing a Chapter?
Chapters are similar to bookmarks. When you hide a Chapter, the
bookmark is still there, but you don’t see the Chapter during play-
back. When you remove a Chapter, it is like removing the book-
mark. The contents of the disc are still there, but the bookmark has
been removed.

Basic Setup
:: Basic Connections
Connecting the R6530 is virtually the same as connecting a standard VCR. Follow these
steps to connect the DVD Recorder to your TV and antenna/basic cable. For advanced
connections, please refer to pages 15-20.
1 Connect Antenna/Cable
Connect the RF cable from your antenna or basic cable TV jack to the ANTENNA IN
jack on the back panel of the DVD Recorder.
2 Connect TV
Choose either Antenna Out or Line Out:
a. Antenna Out
Use if you have an older television with only a basic antenna input. Connect the sup-
plied coaxial cable from the OUT TO TV jack on the back panel of the DVD
Recorder to the antenna in jack on your television.
b. Line Out
Use for better sound and picture quality if your television has audio/video inputs.
Connect the supplied audio/video cable from the AUDIO/VIDEO OUT jacks on the
back panel of the DVD Recorder to the line in jacks on your television and/or stereo
receiver.
3 Power on DVD Recorder & TV
Plug the DVD Recorder into a standard electrical outlet, turn on your TV, and press
Power on the front panel of the DVD Recorder.
4 Select Channel 3 or Line
If you used the Antenna Out connection, tune your television to channel 3 (or if you prefer to use channel 4, see “Modulator Output” on
page 42). If you used the Line Out connection, set your television to its appropriate video input.
5 Continue with Initial Setup
The Language setup menu will appear. Continue with “Initial Setup” on page 14.

DVD Recorder to the S-Video input on your television.
2 Connect Stereo or Digital Audio to TV
Connect stereo audio cables from the AUDIO OUT jacks on the back panel of the
DVD Recorder to the line in jacks on your television or stereo receiver,
OR
Connect the coaxial or optical digital audio output to your audio/video receiver; see
page 17.

Component Video/Progressive Scan
Connections
Use for superior picture quality when watching DVD movies. Your television must be
equipped with Component Video or Progressive Scan inputs.
1 Connect Component Video to TV
Connect a component video cable from the PROG. SCAN jacks on the back panel of
the DVD Recorder to the component video inputs on your television. Be sure to cor-
rectly match each of the cables (Y, Pr, Pb) to the corresponding jacks on the DVD
Recorder and TV.
2 Connect Stereo or Digital Audio to TV
Connect stereo audio cables from the AUDIO OUT jacks on the back panel of the
DVD Recorder to the line in jacks on your television or stereo receiver,
OR
Connect the coaxial or optical digital audio output to your audio/video receiver; see
page 17.
3 Enable the Component Video Output
Set “Video Output” to Component, see page 41.
4 Enable the Progressive Scan Output (Optional)
If your television has Progressive Video inputs, you can enjoy even better video qual-
ity by switching from Interlace to Progressive Scan. To set “Output Format” to Pro-
gressive, see page 42.

Audio/Video Receiver Connections
Follow these steps to connect the DVD Recorder to a digital audio/video receiver.
1 Connect DVD Recorder to Digital Audio Receiver
Connect a coaxial OR optical digital audio cable from the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT
jacks on the back panel of the DVD Recorder to the matching digital audio inputs on
your audio/video receiver.
• Use whichever connection is available on your audio/video receiver.
• Use EITHER coaxial OR optical, NOT both.

Cable Box Connections
Follow these steps to connect a cable box or satellite receiver to your DVD
Recorder:
1 Connect Incoming Cable to Cable Box
Connect a coaxial cable from your cable TV wall outlet to the input jack on
your cable box.
2 Connect Cable Box to DVD Recorder
Connect a second coaxial cable from the output jack on the cable box to the
ANTENNA IN jack on the back panel of the DVD Recorder.
3 Connect DVD Recorder to TV
Choose either Antenna Out or Line Out:
a. Antenna Out
Use if you have an older television with only a basic antenna input. Connect the
supplied coaxial cable from the OUT TO TV jack on the back panel of the DVD
Recorder to the antenna in jack on your television.
b. Line Out
Use for better sound and picture quality if your television has audio/video
inputs. Connect the supplied audio/video cable from the AUDIO/VIDEO OUT
jacks on the back panel of the DVD Recorder to the line in jacks on your televi-
sion and/or stereo receiver.
4 Power on DVD Recorder, TV & Cable Box
Plug the DVD Recorder power cord into a standard electrical outlet, and turn on
your television, DVD Recorder and cable box.
5 Select Channel 3 or Line
If you used the Antenna Out connection, tune your television to channel 3 (or if
you prefer to use channel 4, see “Modulator Output” on page 42). If you used
the Line Out connection, set your television to its appropriate video input.
6 Continue with Initial Setup
The Language setup menu will appear. Continue with “Initial Setup” on
page 14.

Alternative Cable Box Connections
This connection method allows you to record from basic cable while watching
scrambled channels simultaneously. However, with this method you will not be
able to record scrambled channels.
1 Connect Incoming Cable to DVD Recorder
Connect the coaxial cable from your cable TV wall outlet to the ANTENNA IN
jack on the back panel of the DVD Recorder.
2 Connect DVD Recorder to Cable Box
Connect a second coaxial cable from the OUT TO TV jack on the back panel of
the DVD Recorder to the input jack on your cable box.
3 Connect Cable Box to TV
Connect an additional coaxial cable from the output jack on the cable box to the
antenna in jack on your television.
4 Power on DVD Recorder, TV & Cable Box
Plug the DVD Recorder into a standard electrical outlet, and turn on your televi-
sion, DVD Recorder and cable box.
5 Select Channel 3 on TV & Cable Box
• Tune your television and cable box to channel 3.
• To watch the cable box, turn off the DVD Recorder, set your TV to channel
2, 3 or 4 (whichever channel is used by your cable system), and change
channels on the cable box.
• To watch and record basic cable, select the channel to record on the DVD
Recorder and the channel to watch on the cable box.
6 Continue with Initial Setup
The Language setup menu will appear. Continue with “Initial Setup” on
page 14.

Other Audio/Video Connections
Follow these steps to connect an external audio/video source, such as a
camcorder, satellite receiver, VCR, or video game, to your DVD
Recorder.
1 Connect Source to DVD Recorder
Connect your source to the line inputs on the front (Line 1) or rear
(Line 2) of the DVD Recorder.
2 Choose from the following options:
To View Device
• Press Disc/Live on the remote control to switch to Live mode.
• Press Input until Line 1, Line 1-S, Line 2, or Line 2-S appears
on your television screen.
To Record from Device
• Press Disc/Live on the remote control to switch to Live mode.
• Press Input until Line 1, Line 1-S, Line 2, or Line 2-S appears
on your television screen, then press Record. See “Basic
Recording” on page 21.
To Timer Record from Device
• Select L1, L1-S, L2, or L2-S as your Input in the Timer Record
menu; see “Timer Recording” on page 28.

:: Basic Recording
Recording a TV Program
Follow these steps to record a television program using the built-in TV tuner. Before you begin:
•
Turn on the DVD Recorder using the front panel Power button. If the unit is in Standby mode, press On/Standby on the remote control to
power on the unit. The green Power indicator will glow on the front panel display.

Turn on your TV, and set it to the video input connected to the DVD Recorder.
Turn on your audio system (if using an external amplifier/audio system), and set it to the input connected to the DVD Recorder.

Press Open/Close on the remote control or front panel to open the disc tray.
Insert a DVD+R or DVD+RW into the disc tray with the label side facing up.
• If you are using a DVD+R, it must be not be finalized. Once a DVD+R is full or finalized, it cannot be recorded on again.
Press Open/Close again to close the disc tray.

• The unit will take a few moments to read the disc and then switch to Disc mode automatically.
• The disc menu for the DVD+R or DVD+RW will appear.
• The disc menu displays the percentage of free space available on the disc. Check to make sure you have enough space on the disc to
record the desired show, and adjust the Quality level if necessary (see Step 6 below).

• LIVE appears on your TV.
• You can also press Record to switch to Live mode from Disc mode.
Press Input on the remote control until the channel input is selected.
Select the desired channel using the Channel +/- or 0-9 buttons.
Press Quality to set the record quality to the desired level:

• SP - Select for Standard Play mode (2 hrs. max per disc)

• SLP - Select for Super Long Play mode (6 hrs. max per disc, comparable to stan-
dard VHS quality).

Press Record to start recording.
• REC appears on the screen and the R6530 will start recording a new Title onto your
DVD+R/+RW.
Options during recording:
• To pause recording, press Pause/Step .
• To resume recording, press Record.
• To view elapsed and remaining recording time, press Display.
• You cannot change the Input source or Quality settings once recording has begun.
10 When recording is complete, press Stop .
• WAIT appears on the screen for a few moments while the DVD Recorder stops
recording and adds the new Title to the disc menu.
Disc Menu with Recordings
• To play your new Title, press Disc/Live to switch to Disc mode and display the disc
menu. Select the Title and press Play /Enter; see page 31 for details.
• To edit your Title, see page 27.

Recording from an External Device
Follow these steps to record from an external device, such as a VCR, camcorder, satellite receiver, etc. Before you begin:

Turn on the DVD Recorder, TV and audio system (if applicable).
Make sure your external device is powered on and connected to the front or rear line in jacks.
Make sure your external device is cued up so it is ready to play at the desired counter position. For example, play your camcorder or VCR to
the start of the scene you wish to record.

Press Open/Close on the remote control or front panel to open the disc tray.
Insert a DVD+R or DVD+RW into the disc tray with the label side facing up.
• If you are using a DVD+R, it must be not be finalized. Once a DVD+R is full or finalized, it cannot be recorded on again.
Press Open/Close again to close the disc tray.

• The unit will take a few moments to read the disc and then switch to Disc mode automatically.
• The disc menu for the DVD+R or DVD+RW will appear.

Press Quality to set the record quality to the desired level:

Press Record to start recording.
• Whichever input source you selected (i.e., whatever is currently visible on screen) will begin recording to the DVD+R/+RW disc.
• This unit will not record copy-protected material. If your source material is copy-protected you will receive an error message and the
event will not be recorded.
Options during recording:

• To pause recording, press Pause/Step .
• To resume recording, press Record.

:: Editing during DVD Playback
Certain types of edits can only be done during DVD playback. These edits include Insert/Remove
Chapter, Hide/Show Chapter and New Thumbnail.

Inserting a Chapter
You may wish to insert Chapters at the start and end of a group of commercials and hide them during
playback. This feature is also useful for marking and hiding unwanted scenes from raw camcorder footage.
DVD+R/+RW Playback Edits

Cue to the point in the recording where you want to insert a new Chapter.
Use the buttons to select Insert Chapter and press Play /Enter.

EDIT appears briefly on screen and the new Chapter is added.
Press Edit to exit the Edit menu.
Removing a Chapter
If you insert a Chapter accidentally or at an incorrect position, you can easily remove it.

Cue to the Chapter in the recording you want to remove.
Use the buttons to select Remove Chapter and press Play /Enter.

The selected Chapter is removed.
This does NOT delete the contents of the Chapter, only the Chapter marker.
Hiding a Chapter
The Hide Chapter feature allows you to seamlessly skip over commercials or unwanted segments of your recordings:

Cue to the Chapter in the recording you want to hide.
Use the buttons to select Hide Chapter and press Play /Enter.

HIDDEN appears briefly on screen.
The selected Chapter is hidden and will not be visible during normal playback.
To view the hidden Chapter, you must select Play Full Title in the disc menu; see page 27.

Showing a Chapter
The Show Chapter feature allows you to restore hidden Chapters. In order to view hidden Chapters you must first select Play Full Title from the
disc menu; see page 27. This will cause hidden Chapters to play and will mark them with the label HIDDEN on the on-screen display.

Cue to the hidden Chapter you want to restore.
The word HIDDEN appears on screen when a selected Chapter is hidden.
Use the

buttons to select Show Chapter and press Play /Enter.
The selected Chapter is restored and will now be visible during normal playback.
Press Edit to exit the Edit menu.
Creating a New Thumbnail
The New Thumbnail feature allows you to change the image used in the disc menu to identify each Title. You can select any individual frame in
the Title to be used as the new Thumbnail. The default thumbnail is the first frame of the recording.

Cue to the frame you want to use in the disc menu.
Use the buttons to select New Thumbnail and press Play /Enter.

Press Edit to exit the Edit menu.
Press Disc Menu to view the new thumbnail image.

:: Editing from the Disc Menu
Certain types of edits can only be done from the DVD+R/+RW disc menu. These edits
include Play Full Title, Finalize, Erase Title and Make Compatible:

Playing a Full Title
The Play Full Title feature allows you to view all hidden Chapters in the selected Title.
You can then restore them using the Show Chapter option in the Edit menu.

The selected Title will begin playing. Hidden Chapters will be shown with the word HIDDEN on screen during playback.
Press Edit to exit the Edit menu.
Finalizing a Disc (DVD+R only)
Finalizing a DVD+R allows it to be played in virtually any DVD player. It also prevents further writing to the disc.

buttons to select Finalize and press Play /Enter.
FINALIZE appears briefly on-screen and the DVD+R will be formatted for maximum compatibility and closed to further writing.
Press Edit to exit the Edit menu.
Erasing a Title (DVD+RW only)
The Erase Title command allows you to remove unwanted Titles to free up space on DVD+RW discs for new recordings.

Use the

buttons to select Erase Title and press Play /Enter.
The selected Title is deleted and will no longer be visible on the disc menu.
Making a Disc Compatible (DVD+RW only)
Making a DVD+RW compatible allows it to be played in virtually any DVD player. It also prevents further writing to the disc.

buttons to select Make Compatible and press Play /Enter.
FINALIZE appears briefly on-screen and the DVD+RW will be formatted for maximum compatibility and closed to further writing.

:: Timer Recording
You can program up to 8 Timer Recording events up to 1 year in advance. Before you begin:

Turn on the DVD Recorder using the front panel Power button. If the unit is in Standby mode, press On/Standby on the remote control to

Turn on your TV, and set it to the video input connected to the DVD Recorder.

If you are Timer Recording from an external source, make sure that source is powered on and cued to the correct playback position.
If you are recording from a cable box, make sure it is set to the right channel.

• The event must occur within 1 year of the current time or you will receive an input error.

• Mon-Fri - Records the event every weekday (Monday-Friday).
• Daily - Records the event every day of the week (Sunday-Saturday).
• Wkly Mon~Sun - Records the event once a week on the same day (e.g, every Monday).

Set Record Quality

Enable Timer Recording
• Use the buttons to turn the selected event On or Off.

• This allows you to save unused Timer Recording settings for future use.

• The unit will alert you if you have entered any invalid data in your Timer Recording settings.
• The unit will also alert you if you have entered overlapping events.
• To edit an event, simply select it and press Play /Enter.
• To delete an entry, press Clear.

11 When the starting time for the recording is reached, the unit will automatically begin recording according to your settings.
• To stop a Timer Recording in progress, simply press the On/Standby button on the remote control.

Playing a DVD

• Many discs will load and begin playing automatically when the disc drawer closes. Most rental DVDs have disc menus to aid in naviga-

• If the disc is a DVD+R/+RW, the disc menu will appear; see “About R6530 Disc Menus” on page 32.
• If the disc is scratched, dirty, or not encoded for Region 1, you will receive an error message and the disc will not play.
• Always press Stop to stop playback of a disc before powering off the player.

About R6530 Disc Menus
To view the disc menu for a DVD+R/+RW recorded on this DVD Recorder:

Insert a DVD+R/+RW disc.
The disc menu for the loaded DVD+R/+RW will appear automatically,
with the earliest recorded show appearing at the top of the list.
• If you are in Live mode, press Disc/Live to switch to Disc mode.
• If you are in Disc mode, press Disc Menu or Title.
The DVD+R/+RW disc menu includes:

• Thumbnails - The default thumbnail image is the first frame of each
recording. To change the thumbnail to another image, see “Creating a
New Thumbnail” on page 26.
• Date - The month, day, and year the recording was made.
• Time - The hour and minute the recording was made.
• Input - The channel or input the recording was made from.
• Length of Recording - The length of the recording in hours and min-
utes.
• Record Quality - The quality of the recording (HQ, LP, SP, EP, or

Disc Menu Navigation
Disc menus allow you to select Titles and Chapters for playback, change a disc’s default playback settings (such as Audio formats and Subtitle
languages), and access any special features on the disc. Use the following buttons to navigate DVD disc menus:

at least 128 kbps.
• If there are any gaps (blank data) on multi-session discs, you may experience playback
problems.

Photo CDs, including Kodak Picture CDs, contain JPEG images that you can view and manipu-
late on your television screen.

To browse images manually:
• To advance to the previous or next image manually, press Prev

• To rotate a picture clockwise 90 degrees, press the button.

• To zoom in and out of images at variable levels of magnification, press Zoom repeatedly.
• While an image is zoomed, use the arrow buttons to move around the image.
To stop the slideshow and view thumbnails of each picture (9 per screen), press Stop once.
• To view an image, use the arrow buttons to highlight it, then press Play /Enter.
• To advance to the previous or next page, press Prev
screen or icons and press Play /Enter).
To exit thumbnail view and see directory of all pictures on the disc, press Stop again.
• To view a picture, use the buttons to select it and press Play /Enter.
To create a custom slideshow from the directory view, press Program.
• The screen changes to Photo Playlist.

The AUDIO button also allows you to select among all available audio channels while watch-
ing TV.

• MAIN - The primary audio channel that corresponds with what is shown on screen.
• SAP (Second Audio Program) - A second independent audio channel that often contains a second language, music or news.
Angle
Some DVDs contain scenes filmed from multiple angles. To have an Angle icon be displayed
on screen during playback when additional angles are available; see page 43.

During the warranty period, the Go-Video Warranty Administrator will honor DVD Recorder service for 90 days parts and labor from the origi-

tied for 90 days from the date of purchase.

This product may be equipped with a polarized alternating–current line plug (a plug having one blade wider than the other). This plug will fit
into the power outlet only one way. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the plug fully into the outlet, try reversing the plug. If
the plug should still fail to fit, contact your electrician to replace your obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized plug.
12Power–Cord Protection
Power–supply cords should be routed so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items placed upon or against them, paying
particular attention to cords at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the product.
13Protective Attachment Plug
The product is equipped with an attachment plug having overload protection. This is a safety feature. See Instruction Manual for replacement
or resetting of protective device. If replacement of the plug is required, be sure the service technician has used a replacement plug specified
by the manufacturer that has the same overload protection as the original plug.
14Outdoor Antenna Grounding
If an outside antenna or cable system is connected to the product, be sure the antenna or cable sys-
tem is grounded so as to provide some protection against voltage surges and built-up static
charges. Article 810 of the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70, provides information with
regard to proper grounding of the mast and supporting structure, grounding of the lead-in wire to
an antenna discharge unit, size of grounding conductors, location of antenna–discharge unit, con-
nection to grounding electrodes, and requirements for the grounding electrode. See figure 131.1.
15Lightning
For added protection for this product during a lightning storm, or when it is left unattended and
unused for long periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet and disconnect the antenna or cable
system. This will prevent damage to the product due to lightning and power lines surges.
16Power Lines
An outside antenna system should not be located in the vicinity of overhead power lines or other electric light or power circuits, or where it
can fall into such power lines or circuits. When installing an outside antenna system, extreme care should be taken to keep from touching
such power lines or circuits as contact with them might be fatal.
17Overloading
Do not overload wall outlets, extension cords, or integral convenience receptacles as this can result in a risk of fire or electric shock.
18Object and Liquid Entry
Never push objects of any kind into this product through openings as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short-out parts that could
result in a fire or electric shock. Never spill liquid of any kind on the product.
19Servicing

Notes about Discs
On handling discs
• To keep the disc clean, handle the disc by its edge. Do not touch the
surface.
• Do not expose the disc to direct sunlight or heat sources such as hot
air ducts, or leave it in a car parked in direct sunlight as the tempera-
ture may rise considerably inside the car.
• After playing, store the disc in its case.
On cleaning discs
• Before playing, clean the disc with a cleaning cloth. Wipe the disc
from the center out.
• Do not use solvents such as benzine, thinner, commercially available
cleaners, or anti-static spray intended for vinyl LPs.

Although this DVD Recorder will work with virtually all brands of blank media (DVD+R/+RW), for best results and maximum compatibility, it
is recommended that you use discs with the following brands:
