Read these simple guidelines. Breaking the rules may be dangerous or illegal. Further

detailed information is given in this manual.

Do not switch on the phone when wireless phone use is prohibited or when it

may cause interference or danger.

ROAD SAFETY COMES FIRST

Don't use a hand-held phone while driving.

INTERFERENCE

All wireless phones may get interference, which could affect performance.

SWITCH OFF IN HOSPITALS

Follow any regulations or rules. Switch the phone off near medical equipment.

SWITCH OFF IN AIRCRAFT

Wireless devices can cause interference in aircraft.

SWITCH OFF WHEN REFUELLING

Don't use the phone at a refuelling point. Don't use near fuel or chemicals.

SWITCH OFF NEAR BLASTING

Don't use the phone where blasting is in progress. Observe restrictions, and

follow any regulations or rules.

USE SENSIBLY

Use only in the normal position. Don't touch the antenna unnecessarily.

QUALIFIED SERVICE

Only qualified personnel may install or repair phone equipment.

ACCESSORIES AND BATTERIES

Use only approved accessories and batteries. Do not connect incompatible

products.

WATER-RESISTANCE

Your phone is not water-resistant. Keep it dry.

BACKUP COPIES

Remember to make backup copies of all important data.

CONNECTING TO OTHER DEVICES

When connecting to any other device, read its user's guide for detailed safety

instructions. Do not connect incompatible products.

Ensure the phone is switched on and in service. Enter the phone number,

including the area code, then press

Ensure the phone is switched on and in service. Press

as many times as

needed (e.g. to exit a call, to exit a menu, etc.) to clear the display. Enter the

emergency number, then press

■ Network services

The wireless phone described in this guide is approved for use on the EGSM 900 and GSM

1800 network.

Dualband is a network dependent feature. Check with your local service provider if you can

subscribe to and use this feature.

A number of features included in this guide are called Network Services. These are special

services that you arrange through your wireless service provider. Before you can take

advantage of any of these Network Services, you must subscribe to them through your

service provider and obtain instructions for their use from your service provider.

Note: Some networks may not support all language-dependent characters and/or

services.

■ Accessories

Check the model number of any charger before use with this device. This device is intended

for use when supplied with power from ACP-7, ACP-8, LCH-9 and DCV-10.

Warning! Use only batteries, chargers and accessories approved by the phone

manufacturer for use with this particular phone model. The use of any other types

will invalidate any approval or warranty applying to the phone, and may be

dangerous.

For availability of approved accessories, please check with your dealer.

When you disconnect the power cord of any accessory, grasp and pull the plug, not the cord.

General information

■ Stickers on the sales package

The stickers contain important information for service and customer support

purposes. Keep these stickers in a safe and secure place.

Attach the sticker to the Club Nokia Invitation Card, if included in the sales

package.

Attach the sticker to your warranty card.

■ Access codes

With the following access codes, you can avoid unauthorised use of your phone

and SIM card.

• Security code: This code is supplied with your phone. The security code

protects your phone against unauthorised use and can also be used for locking

the phone’s keypad, see page 27.

The preset code is 12345. Change the code and set the phone to request it

using the Change of access codes and Security level functions in the Security

settings menu (see page 64). Keep the new code secret and in a safe place,

separate from your phone.

• PIN code: This code is supplied with the SIM card. It protects the SIM card

against unauthorised use. If you activate the PIN code request function in the

Security settings menu (see page 64), the code is requested each time the

phone is switched on.

If you enter an incorrect PIN code three times in succession, the SIM card is

blocked. Key in the PUK code and press OK. Key in a new PIN code and press

OK. Key in the new code again and press OK.

• PIN2 code: This code may be supplied with the SIM card and is required to

access some functions, such as charging unit counters. If you enter an

incorrect PIN2 code three times in succession, you are asked for the PUK2 code.

• PUK and PUK2 code: These codes may be supplied with the SIM card. If this is

not the case, contact your service provider.

• Barring password: The barring password is needed when using Call barring

service in the Security settings menu (see page 64). You can obtain this

password from your service provider.

■ Typographics used in this user’s guide

The texts that appear on the phone display are printed in blue, for example

Calling.

The display texts related to the selection keys

1. Getting started

■ Keys

The basic functions of the phone’s keys are described below. More information is

given throughout this user’s guide.

Power key

(on top of the phone): Press and hold this key to switch the phone

on or off. If you press this key briefly in standby mode or during a call, a list of

profiles is displayed.

Scroll keys

and

: In standby mode, use these keys to browse through the

names and phone numbers that are saved in the phone book. In the menu

functions, use these keys to browse through the menus and settings.

Selection keys (

and

): Each key performs the function that is displayed

above it. For example, pressing Menu opens the list of menu functions.

: Answers a call and dials the displayed phone number. Pressing this key in

standby mode shows a list of the most recently dialled numbers.

: Ends or rejects a call and exits from a function.

: These keys are used to key in numbers and letters. Pressing and

calls your voice mailbox.

holding

and

: These keys are used for various purposes in different functions.

■ Display and standby mode

The indicators described below are displayed when the phone is ready for use and

no characters have been keyed in by the user. When this display is shown, the

phone is said to be in ‘standby mode’.

1. Indicates the cellular network in which the phone is

currently being used.

2. Shows the signal strength of the cellular network at

your current location.

3. Shows the battery charge level.

4. Shows the function of the left selection key (Menu).

5. Shows the function of the right selection key (Names).

Other essential indicators

You have received a text or picture message.

You have received a voice message (network service).

The phone will not ring or beep when you receive a call since all the phone

tones are turned off.

The phone’s keypad is locked.

The alarm clock is on. The alarm tone will be heard even if the all the

phone tones are turned off.

All your calls are diverted.

Your calls are limited to a closed user group (network service).

A headset is connected to your phone.

The countdown timer is running.

The stopwatch is running.

■ Installing the SIM card and the battery

•

Keep all miniature SIM cards out of the reach of small children.

• The SIM card and its contacts can easily be damaged by scratches or bending,

so be careful when handling, inserting or removing the card.

• Before installing the SIM card, always make sure that the phone is switched off

and then remove the battery.

1. Press the release button (1), slide the cover (2),

and lift it off the phone (3).

2. Push the two catches in opposite directions (4), and lift the battery out of the

phone (5).

3. Slide the SIM card carefully into the card slot (6).

Make sure that the golden connectors on the card are

facing downwards and that the bevelled corner is on

the left.

4. Align the golden connectors on the battery with

the corresponding connectors on the phone, and

push the opposite end of the battery until the

battery snaps into place (7).

5. Insert the two catches of the back cover into the corresponding slots on the

phone (8). Slide the cover towards the end of the phone until the cover locks

into place (9).

■ Charging the battery

• Do not charge the battery when either of the phone covers is removed. See also

Battery statements on page 92.

1. Connect the lead of the charger to the

base of the phone.

2. Connect the charger to an AC wall outlet.

The battery indicator bar starts scrolling.

• Charging the battery supplied with the phone may take up to six hours

when using the ACP-7 charger.

• If Not charging is displayed, wait for a while, disconnect the charger, plug it

in again and retry. If charging still fails, contact your dealer.

3. When the battery is fully charged, the bar stops scrolling. Disconnect the

charger from the AC outlet and the phone.

■ Switching on or off

Press and hold the

key.

If the phone requests a PIN code or security code:

Key in the code and press OK.

Warning! Do not switch the phone on when wireless

phone use is prohibited or when it may cause interference or danger.

TIPS ON EFFICIENT OPERATION: Your phone has a built-in antenna (grey

area in picture). As with any other radio-transmitting device, do not touch

the antenna unnecessarily when the phone is switched on. Contact with

the antenna affects call quality and may cause the phone to operate at a

higher power level than otherwise needed. Not touching the antenna area during a phone

call optimises the antenna performance and the talktime of your phone.

■ Changing the covers

•

Before changing the cover, always switch off the power and disconnect the phone from

the charger or any other device.

•

Always store and use the phone with the covers attached.

1. Press the release button (1), slide the cover (2) and

lift it off the phone (3).

2. Gently pull the front cover off the phone starting

from the bottom of the phone (4).

3. Insert the keypad mat into the front

cover (5).

4. Align the top of the phone with the top of the

front cover (6) and push the phone towards the

cover until it locks into place (7).

5. Insert the two catches on the back cover into the corresponding slots on the

phone (8). Slide the cover until it locks into place (9).

2. Basic functions

■ Making and answering calls

Making a call

1. Key in the area code and phone number. To edit a number, press

move the cursor or Clear to delete the character to the left of the cursor.

To call abroad: Press twice for the + character (replaces the international

prefix) and key in the country code, area code (omit the leading 0 if necessary)

and phone number.

2. Press

To adjust the volume: Press

to increase or

to decrease the earpiece

volume.

3. Press

to end the call or to cancel the call attempt.

Calling a phone number saved in the phone book

Press or in standby mode. Key in the first letter of the name that has been

saved with the phone number. Scroll to the name with

. To view the

phone number, press Details or press and hold

to make the call.

Calling a recently dialled number

To call one of the 20 phone numbers you have most recently called or attempted

to call: Press

in standby mode, scroll to the desired phone number or name,

Calling your voice mailbox

In standby mode, press and hold

. You can obtain the voice mailbox number

from your service provider. See also Voice mailbox number on page 54.

Voice dialling

You can dial a phone number by saying one or more words that are attached to it.

See Voice dialling on page 36.

Speed dialling

If you have assigned a phone number to one of the speed dialling keys (

), you can call that phone number as follows:

• In standby mode, press the speed dialling key and

. OR:

• If the Speed dialling function in the Call settings menu (see page 60) is set on,

press and hold the speed dialling key in standby mode until the call is started.

Making a conference call

Conference call is a network service that allows up to six people to participate in

the same call.

1. During a call, press Options and select New call.

2. Key in the phone number, or search for it in the phone book, and press Call. The

first call is put on hold.

3. When the new call has been answered, join the first participant in the

conference call by pressing Options and by selecting Conference.

4. To add a new participant to the call, repeat steps 1, 2 and 3.

5. To have a private conversation with one of the participants:

Press Options and select Private. Select the participant and press OK. After the

conversation, return to the conference call as described in step 3.

6. To end the conference call, press

Answering or rejecting a call

Press

to answer the call. To ignore the call, press Silence. To reject the call,

press

The rejected call will be diverted, for example, to your voice mailbox, if you have

activated a call divert option such as Divert if busy.

Call waiting

You can answer a call while you have another call in progress if you have

activated the Call waiting service function in the Call settings menu (see page 60).

While in a call, press Answer or

. Or: Press Options and select Answer. The

first call is put on hold.

To switch between the two calls, press Swap or

press Options and select Reject. To end the active call, press

. To reject the waiting call,

Functions available during a call

The functions described below can be used during a call. Some of these functions

are network services. Not all the functions are available at the same time.

During a call, press Options and select one of the following functions: Mute or

Unmute, Hold or Unhold, Send DTMF, New call, Answer, Reject, Swap, End call, End

all calls, Phone book, Menu, Conference, Private.

Use Send DTMF to send DTMF tone strings.

■ Locking the keypad

You can lock the keypad to avoid accidental keypresses, for example, when the

phone is in your handbag, or to avoid unauthorised use of your phone.

To avoid accidental keypresses:

• Press Menu and then

quickly in standby mode. OR:

You can also set the phone to automatically lock the keypad if the phone has

not been used for a certain length of time: Press Menu in standby mode and

select Settings, Keyguard settings, Automatic keyguard and On. Key in the

delay time in minutes and seconds, and press OK. The keypad lock is turned on

when the phone is in standby mode.

• To unlock the keypad: Press Unlock and then

quickly in standby mode.

To avoid unauthorised use of your phone:

• First, activate the keyguard code: Press Menu in standby mode and select

Settings, Keyguard settings and Keyguard code. Key in the security code and

press OK. Select On.

Then, lock the keypad: Press Menu and then

quickly in standby mode.

• To unlock the keypad: Press Unlock in standby mode. Key in the security code

and press OK.

When the keypad is locked:

• The indicator

is shown.

• To answer a call, press

automatically locked.

, When you end or reject a call, the keypad will be

Note: When Keyguard is on, calls may be possible to the emergency number

programmed into your phone (e.g. 112 or other official emergency number). Key in

■ Writing text

You can key in characters by pressing a letter key once for each character

(predictive text input) or by pressing a letter key one or more times for each

character (traditional text input).

By pressing a key once for each character (predictive text input)

Predictive text input is a fast way to write, for example, text messages (see page

46) and reminder notes (see page 66). This input method uses a dictionary that is

built into the phone.

Selecting a dictionary for predictive text input

Press Menu in standby mode and select Messages and Write message. Press

Options, and select Dictionary and the desired language.

Turning predictive text input off

Press Menu in standby mode, and select Messages and Write message. Press

Options, and select Dictionary and Dictionary off.

Using predictive text input

To use this input method, check that

is shown at the top of the display.

Note that predictive text input may use Unicode characters. For more information,

see Writing and sending a text message (Write message) on page 46.

1. Write the desired word by pressing the appropriate key once for each letter.

For example, to write ‘Nokia’, press

happens on the display before you have keyed in the whole word.

Insert word: You can key in a word using traditional text input and add it to the

dictionary.

Insert number: You can key in numbers by pressing each number key once.

Insert symbol: You can select a special character from a list. Scroll to a

character such as % and press Use.

Writing compound words

Write the first half of the word, press

and write the second half.

By pressing a key one or more times for each character

(traditional text input)

To use this input method, check that

is shown at the top of the display.

Press a key ( to ) one or more times until the desired character is

displayed. Not all available characters are printed on the keys. The characters

available depend on the Language setting selected in the Phone settings menu,

see page 62.

• To insert a space, press

3. Phone book (Names)

You can save names and phone numbers in the phone or on the SIM card. The

phone offers several functions for managing the names and phone numbers that

have been saved.

■ Using the phone book functions

To access the phone book functions, press Names in standby mode and select the

function you want.

Some phone book functions can also be accessed as follows: Press

standby mode, scroll to the desired name, press Details, scroll to the name or

phone number, press Options and select the desired function.

To access the phone book functions during a call, press Options and select Phone

book.

Selecting the phone book settings

Press Names in standby mode, and select Settings and one of the following

functions:

•

Memory in use to choose the phone book where you want to save names and

phone numbers: SIM card or Phone.

•

Phone book view to choose how the phone book contents are displayed: Name

list (three names at a time), Name and no. (one name and number at a time),

Large font (one name at a time).

Memory status to check how many names and phone numbers are saved and

how many can still be saved in each phone book.

Searching names and phone numbers

Press Names in standby mode and select Search. Key in the first letter of the name

and press Search. Press

that was saved with the name, press Details or press and hold

to scroll to the name. To view the phone number

• If the name and phone number are saved on the SIM card,

is shown on the

top right of the display. If the name and phone number are saved in the phone,

is shown instead.

• To search for names and phone numbers in standby mode: Press

Calling a service number

You can call the service numbers of your service provider if these numbers are

available on your SIM card. Press Names in standby mode and select Service nos..

Select the service number you want to call and press Call or

Saving names and phone numbers

Press Names in standby mode and select Add name. Key in the name (see Writing

text on page 28) and press OK. Key in the area code and phone number, and press

OK.

If you want to use the phone number while abroad, press

twice (for a +

character) and then key in the country code, area code (omit the leading 0, if

necessary) and phone number.

Quick save: In standby mode, key in the phone number, press Options

and select Save. Key in the name and press OK.

Erasing names and phone numbers

Press Names in standby mode and select Delete. Select One by one to delete the

names and numbers one by one or Delete all to delete all the names and numbers

from the phone book.

Copying names and phone numbers

Press Names in standby mode and select Copy. Press

to select the

a time or All to copy them all at once. Select whether you want to keep the

original names and numbers (Keep original) or erase them (Delete original).

• If you selected One by one, scroll to the name you want to copy and press Copy.

• If you selected All, start the copying by pressing OK when Start copying? is

displayed.

Assigning a ringing tone to a name and phone number

You can set the phone to play a specific ringing tone when you receive a call from

a particular phone number.

Press Names in standby mode and select Assign tone. Scroll to a name or phone

number and press Assign. Scroll to the ringing tone you want and press OK.

Default is the ringing tone that you have selected for the active profile in Profiles

(Menu 3).

Assigning a phone number to a speed dialling key

You can set the keys

to work as speed dialling keys.

Press Names in standby mode and select Speed dials. Scroll to the key you want,

press Assign and select a name or phone number.

If a phone number is already assigned to a key, you can view or change the

number or erase the assignment by first pressing Options.

To make a call using speed dialling, see Speed dialling on page 25.

Voice dialling

You can dial a phone number by saying one or more words (’voice tag’) attached to

it. The voice tag can be, for example, a name. Up to eight phone numbers in the

phone book can have voice tags at the same time.

Before using voice dialling, note that:

•

Voice tags are not language dependent. They are dependent on the speaker’s voice.

•

Voice tags are sensitive to background noise. Record them and make calls in a quiet

environment.

When recording a voice tag or making a call by saying a voice tag, hold the phone in the

normal position near to your ear.

Very short names are not accepted. Use long names and avoid similar names for different

numbers.

Note: You must say the name exactly as you said it when you recorded it. This may

be difficult in, for example, a noisy environment or during an emergency, so you

should not rely solely upon voice dialling in all circumstances.

Recording a voice tag

Scroll to the desired name or phone number in standby mode, and press Details

and Options. Select Add voice tag. Press Start and clearly say the word(s) you

want to record as the voice tag.

Voice tags are stored in the phone and are removed when you insert another SIM

card into the phone.

Making a call using a voice tag

Press and hold Names in standby mode. Say the voice tag clearly while holding the

phone in the normal position near to your ear. The phone plays the voice tag and

dials the related phone number.

If no match for the voice tag is found or recognised, press Yes to say the voice tag

again or Exit or

to return to standby mode.

If you use the HDC-5 headset, press and hold the headset button until you hear a

short tone and then say the voice tag clearly.

Other voice tag options

Press Names in standby mode and select Voice tags, the desired name or phone

number and Playback, Change or Delete.

Sending a name and phone number

You can send a name and phone number (’business card’) as a text message to a

compatible phone.

Press

in standby mode, scroll to the name or phone number that you

want to send, press Details and Options, and select Send bus. card. Key in the

recipient’s phone number or search for it in the phone book, and press OK.

Editing a name and phone number

Press

in standby mode, scroll to the name or phone number you want to

edit, press Details, scroll to the name or phone number, press Options and select

Edit. Edit the name or phone number and press OK.

Sending a message from the phone book

You can send a text message to a person whose name or phone number is saved in

the phone book.

Press

in standby mode, scroll to the desired name and press Details.

Scroll to the desired number, press Options and select Send message. For more

information, see Writing and sending a text message (Write message) on page 46.

4. Menu functions

Your phone offers a range of functions that allow you to tailor it to your needs.

These functions are grouped into menus and submenus.

■ Accessing a menu function

You can access most of the main menus, submenus, functions and setting options

by keying in a shortcut number. This number is shown on the top right of the

display.

Press Menu in standby mode. Within three seconds, key in the shortcut number of

the main menu that you want to access. Repeat this for the submenu, function

and setting option.

■ Messages (Menu 1)

In this menu you can write, read and manage text and picture

messages. You can also listen to voice messages and change message settings.

To access this menu: Press Menu in standby mode and select Messages.

Before you can send text or picture messages, you need to save your message

centre number on the phone, see page 52.

Note: When sending messages via the SMS network service, your phone may

display the words Message sent. This is an indication that the message has been

sent by your phone to the message centre number programmed into your phone.

This is not an indication that the message has been received at the intended

destination. For more details about SMS services, check with your service provider.

Writing and sending a text message (Write message)

You can send and receive multi-part messages, which consist of several ordinary

text messages (network service). This may effect the invoicing of a message.

1. Press Menu in standby mode, and select Messages and Write message.

2. Write the message, see Writing text on page 28. If you use special (Unicode)

characters, such as ñ, in your message, more parts may be needed for the

message than otherwise. Note that predictive text input may use Unicode

characters.

The numbers on the top right of the display indicate how many characters you

can still write in the multi-part message (the number to the left of the ’/’

character) and how many ordinary messages will be sent (the number to the

right of the ’/’ character).

By pressing Options you can access the following functions that help you to

write the message: Use template (see page 51), Insert smiley, Insert word,

Insert number, Insert symbol, Dictionary (see page 29).

3. When the message is complete, press Options for the following functions that

you can use for sending the message: Send, Send to many or Sending profile.

• Select Send to send the message to the desired recipient. Key in the

recipient’s phone number and press OK.

• Select Send to many to send the message to several people. Scroll to the

first recipient and press OK. Repeat this for each recipient.

• Select Sending profile to send the message using a predefined set of

settings. See Message settings on page 52.

In addition to the functions described above, pressing Options allows access to

the Save and Delete functions.

• Select Save to save the message in the Outbox menu.

• Select Delete to delete all the characters from the display.

Reading a text message (Inbox)

When you receive a text message, you hear a message alert tone and the number

of new messages as well as

are shown in standby mode.

1. Press Read to view the message immediately. If you want to read the message

later, press Exit or

To read the message later, press Menu in standby mode, and select Messages

and Inbox.

2. Scroll to the message you want to read and press Read.

3. Use

to browse through the message.

4. While reading the message, you can press Options for the following functions:

Delete, Reply, Chat (see page 48), Edit, Use number, Use URLs, As reminder,

Forward, Details.

• Select Use number to copy a phone number from the message to standby

mode for calling or saving.

• Select Use URLs to copy a URL (Unique Resource Locator) address from the

message to the bookmark list in the Services menu, see page 80.

• Select As reminder to add the message as a new reminder to the Reminders

menu.

Viewing messages you have saved (Outbox)

In the Outbox menu, you can view the messages that you have saved in the Write

message menu. If you press Options, you can use the same functions as in the

Inbox menu, except for Reply, Chat and Details.

Chat

Chat is a fast way to have a conversation using text messages.

Note that the messages received and sent during a chat are not saved for later

use.

1. Press Menu in standby mode, and select Messages and Chat. Or: When reading

a text message, press Options and select Chat.

2. If you started the chat from standby mode, key in the other person’s phone

number or search for it in the phone book, and press OK.

3. Key in the nickname you want to use for the chat (see Writing text on page 28),

and press OK.

4. Write your message and send it by pressing Options and selecting Send.

5. The reply from the other person is shown above the message you sent. To reply

to the message, press Back, write your message and send it by pressing

Options and selecting Send.

When writing a message, you can press Options and select

•

Chat name to edit your nickname

Chat history to view the previous messages. Messages that you have sent

are indicated by "<" and your nickname. Messages that you have received

are indicated by ">" and the sender’s nickname.

Picture messages

You can send and receive text messages that contain pictures (network service).

For downloading pictures from WAP pages, see View image in Browsing the pages

of a WAP service on page 85.

Note: This function can be used only if it is supported by your network operator or

service provider. Only phones that offer picture message features can receive and

display picture messages.

Each picture message is made up of several text messages. Therefore, sending one

picture message may cost more than one text message.

Since picture messages are saved in the phone, you cannot view them if you use

the SIM card with another phone.

When you receive a picture message

To view the message immediately, press View. You can save the message in the

Picture messages menu by pressing Save or delete it by pressing Back and Exit.

Sending a picture message

Press Menu in standby mode, and select Messages and Picture messages. To view

a picture message, scroll to the desired message and press View. To modify the

displayed text or picture, press Options and select Edit text or Edit picture (see

also Picture editor on page 77).

To view the whole message, press Options and select Preview. To send the

message, press Options and select Send.

Downloading picture messages

You can fetch (’download’) new preset picture messages from the WAP service of

Club Nokia. This function is only included if this WAP service is available in your

country.

Press Menu in standby mode, and select Messages and Download picture

message.

If the WAP connection fails and an error message such as Check service settings is

displayed, change the active set of connection settings in the Services menu and

enter this menu to try the connection again. See also Downloads (Menu 5) on

page 65 and WAP services (Services - Menu 10) on page 80.

Templates

You can view, edit or erase the preset messages (’templates’) that are available for

writing messages.

Press Menu in standby mode, and select Messages and Templates. Scroll to the

template you want to use and press Read. To edit or delete the template, press

Options and select the desired function.

When editing a template, pressing Options allows access to a further set of

functions, including Send and Save.

Smileys

You can create smileys such as ’:-)’ that you can use when writing or replying to a

message.

Press Menu in standby mode, and select Messages and Smileys. Scroll to the

desired smiley and press Read. Press Options and select Edit. Change the smiley to

your liking (press and hold

for special characters). Pressing Options allows

access to a further set of functions, including Save.

Deleting text messages

You can delete text messages that have been read from the Inbox menu, all text

messages from the Outbox menu or both (All read).

Press Menu in standby mode, and select Messages and Delete messages. Scroll to

the desired option and press OK.

Message settings

Your phone offers two kinds of message settings: settings specific to each setting

group (’sending profile’) and settings common to all text messages.

Press Menu in standby mode, and select Messages and Message settings. Select a

sending profile or Common.

Profile

A sending profile is a collection of settings that are needed for sending text and

picture messages.

Each profile has the following settings:

•

Message centre number to save the phone number that is needed for sending

text and picture messages. You can obtain this number from your service

provider.

•

Messages sent as to select the message format (network service).

Message validity to choose how long the network should attempt to deliver

your message to its recipient.

•

Rename sending profile to change the name of the sending profile.

Common

The settings in this submenu apply to all text messages that you send, irrespective

of the chosen sending profile.

• Select Delivery reports to request the network to send delivery reports on the

messages you send (network service).

• Select Reply via same centre to allow the recipient of your message to send you

a reply via your message centre (network service).

• Select Character support to define how the phone handles Unicode characters

in text messages.

If you select the Full option, the phone sends all the Unicode characters, such

as ’á’ and Cyrillic characters, included in a text message as such to a

compatible phone, if supported by your network.

If you select the Reduced option, the phone tries to convert the Unicode

characters into the corresponding non-Unicode characters, for example ’á’ to

’a’, and converts the lower case Greek characters into upper case. If no such

non-Unicode counterpart exists, the characters are sent as Unicode characters.

See also Writing and sending a text message (Write message) on page 46.

Info service

This network service allows you to receive messages on various topics, such as

traffic conditions, from the network. For details, contact your service provider.

1. Availability of this menu may vary according to your service provider.

Press Menu in standby mode, and select Messages and Info service.

• Select On to receive messages on the active topics.

• Select Topic index to set the phone to receive a list of available topics from the

network.

• Select Topics to mark the topics as active or inactive, add a new topic to the

list, or edit or delete the existing topics.

• Select Language to choose the language for the messages. Only messages in

the selected language will be shown.

Voice mailbox number

You can save the phone number of your voice mailbox (network service).

Press Menu in standby mode, and select Messages and Voice mailbox number. Key

in the number and press OK.

Service command editor

You can send service requests to your service provider.

Press Menu in standby mode, and select Messages and Service command editor.

Key in the desired characters. Press and hold

to switch between letters and

numbers. Press Send to send the request.

■ Call register (Menu 2)

In this menu you can view the phone numbers registered by the

phone and the approximate length and cost of your calls. You can also view and

change the settings of a prepaid SIM card.

To access this menu: Press Menu in standby mode and select Call register.

The phone registers missed and received calls if it is switched on and within the

network’s service area, and if the network supports these functions.

When you press Options in the Missed calls, Received calls or Dialled numbers

menu, you can view the time of the call and edit or view the registered phone

number, save it in the phone book or delete it from the list of registered phone

numbers. You can also send a text message to the caller (Send message).

•

Missed calls: This network service shows the 10 phone numbers from which

somebody has most recently tried to call you with no success.

Received calls: This network service shows the 10 phone numbers from which

you have most recently accepted calls.

Dialled numbers: Shows the 20 phone numbers that you have most recently

called or attempted to call.

Delete recent call lists: You can delete all the phone numbers and names from

Menus 2-1 to 2-3.

The phone numbers are also deleted if you

• switch on the phone with a SIM card inserted that is not one of the five SIM

cards that you have used most recently with the phone

• change the Security level setting, see Security settings on page 64.

•

Call duration: Shows the approximate duration of your outgoing and incoming

calls. You can reset these call timers by selecting Clear timers.

Note: The actual time invoiced for calls by your service provider may vary,

depending upon network features, rounding-off for billing, and so forth.

Call costs: This network service shows the approximate cost of your last call or

all calls in terms of the units that you have set with the Show costs in function

in the Call cost settings menu. You can reset these cost counters by selecting

Clear counters.

Note: The actual invoice for calls and services from your service provider may

vary, depending upon network features, rounding-off for billing, taxes and so

forth.

•

Call cost settings: With the Call cost limit function you can limit the call costs

to an amount of charging units or units of currency (network service). With the

Show costs in function you can select the units in which the phone shows the

remaining talk-time. Contact your service provider for charging unit prices.

Note: When no more charging units or currency units are left, calls may only be

possible to the emergency number programmed into your phone (e.g. 112 or

other official emergency number).

Prepaid credit: If you use a prepaid SIM card, you can only make calls if there

are sufficient credit units on the SIM card (network service). Options: Credit

info display (to show or hide remaining units in standby mode), Credit available

(to view the amount of remaining units), Last event costs, Recharge status.

■ Profiles (Menu 3)

You can set all the phone tones to function in a specific

manner by selecting the desired setting group (’profile’).

You can easily change the settings of the active profile in the Tone settings menu

(see page 59).

To access this menu: Press Menu in standby mode and select Profiles.

Activating a profile

1. Select the profile that you want to use. For example, select the Silent profile if

you want to turn off all the phone tones.

Some of the profiles can be replaced with profiles that you may receive, for

example, from your service provider. For availability and compatibility, contact

your service provider or other profile provider.

2. Select Activate.

To quickly activate a profile in standby mode or during a call: Press

quickly, scroll to the desired profile and press OK.

Changing the settings of a profile

1. Select the profile whose settings you want to change.

2. Select Personalise.

3. Select one of the following settings and change it to your liking.

•

Ringing tone: You can select the tone that rings when you receive a call.

•

Download tone: You can download new ringing tones from the WAP service

of Club Nokia. This function is shown only if the WAP service is available in

your country.

If the WAP connection fails and an error message such as Check service

settings is displayed, change the active set of connection settings in the

Services menu and enter this menu to try the connection again. See also

Downloads (Menu 5) on page 65 and WAP services (Services - Menu 10) on

page 80.

•

Ringing volume: You can select the volume level for the ringing tones and

message alert tones.

Incoming call alert: You can select the way the phone notifies you of

incoming calls. For example, if you select Off, the phone remains silent

when you receive a call.

•

Message alert tone: You can select the tone you hear when you receive a

message. If you want to select the tone from the ringing tone list, select

Personal and the desired tone.

•

Keypad tones: You can select the volume for keypad tones.

Warning tones: You can set the phone to sound tones, for example, when

the battery is running out of power.

•

Vibrating alert: You can set the phone to vibrate when you receive a call or

a message. If you select Rhythm, the phone will vibrate in the rhythm of the

selected ringing tone or message alert tone. The vibrator does not operate

when the phone is connected to a charger or a desktop stand.

•

Rhythmic backlight alert: You can set the backlights of the phone to flash in

the rhythm of the selected ringing tone or message alert tone when you

receive a call or a message.

Screen saver: You can select a picture or animation that is shown in

standby mode after a certain length of time. For more information, see

Screen saver on page 79.

The use of an animation as a screen saver uses battery power, which

reduces the operation time of your phone.

•

Rename: You can edit the name of the profile. The General profile cannot

be renamed.

■ Settings (Menu 4)

In this menu you can change various settings of the phone. You

can also reset some menu settings to their default values.

To access this menu: Press Menu in standby mode and select Settings.

Tone settings

You can change the tone settings of the currently selected profile.

To access this menu: Press Menu in standby mode, and select Settings and Tone

settings.

The settings in this menu are the same as in the Profiles menu, except for Rename.

Time settings

To access this menu: Press Menu in standby mode, and select Settings and Time

settings.

•

Clock: You can set the time, select the 12-hour or 24-hour time format or set

the phone to show the current time in standby mode. If the battery is removed

from the phone, you may need to set the time again.

The clock settings affect the Alarm clock and Reminders functions.

•

Date setting: You can set the date.

Auto update of date & time: You can set the phone to automatically update the

time and date according to the current time zone (network service).

Call settings

To access this menu: Press Menu in standby mode, and select Settings and Call

settings.

•

Call divert: You can divert your incoming calls to your voice mailbox or another

phone number (network service).

Select the desired divert option. You can set the divert option on (Activate) or

off (Cancel), check whether the option is activated (Check status), or select a

time delay for it (not available for all divert options).

If you selected Activate, select where the calls are to be diverted to. If you

selected Check status, press Number to view the phone number to which the

calls are diverted.

Several call divert options may be active at the same time. When all calls are

diverted, is shown in standby mode.

•

Automatic redial: You can set your phone to make up to ten attempts to

connect a call after an unsuccessful call attempt.

Speed dialling: When this function is on, you can dial the names and phone

numbers assigned to the speed dial keys

by pressing and holding

the corresponding key.

•

Call waiting service: When this network service is activated, the network

notifies you of a new incoming call while you have a call in progress.

Send my caller identity: You can set your phone number to be displayed (On) or

hidden (Off) from the person you are calling (network service). If you select

Preset, the phone will use the setting that you have agreed with your service

provider.

•

Line for outgoing calls: With this network service you can select the phone line

(that is, subscriber number) 1 or 2 for making calls or prevent line selection, if

supported by your SIM card. Calls on both lines can be answered regardless of

the selected line.

You cannot make calls if you select line 2 and you have not subscribed to this

network service. When line 2 is selected, 2 is shown in standby mode.

Tip: In standby mode, you can switch between the lines by pressing

and holding

Phone settings

To access this menu: Press Menu in standby mode, and select Settings and Phone

settings.

•

Language: You can select the language for the display texts.

Cell info display: You can set the phone to indicate when it is used in a network

based on Micro Cellular Network (MCN) technology (network service). In such

a network, local calls may cost less than normal.

•

Welcome note: You can write a note that is shown briefly when the phone is

switched on.

Network selection: You can set the phone to automatically select a cellular

network that is available in your area, or you may select the desired network

from a list (Manual).

The selected network must have a roaming agreement with your home

network. If no such agreement exists, No Access will be displayed and you must

select another network.

The phone stays in manual mode until the automatic mode is selected or

another SIM card is inserted into the phone.

•

Confirm SIM service actions: You can set the phone to show confirmation

messages (Yes) when you use SIM card services. See also page 91.

Accessory settings

You can define the default settings that the phone uses when it is connected to a

compatible accessory. This menu is shown only if the phone is used or has been

used with such an accessory.

To access this menu: Press Menu in standby mode, and select Settings and

Accessory settings.

Select the accessory Headset or Handsfree. Next, select

•

Default profile to choose the profile that the phone uses when the accessory is

connected.

• Select Automatic answer to set the phone to automatically answer an

incoming call after one ring.

• Select Lights to set the display and keypad lights on or off. This setting is only

available for the Handsfree accessory.

Keyguard settings

You can set the phone to automatically lock the keypad if the phone is not used

for a certain length of time (Automatic keyguard), or you can lock the keypad

manually by using the security code of your phone (Keyguard code).

To access this menu: Press Menu in standby mode, and select Settings and

Keyguard settings.

If you select Keyguard code, key in the security code and press OK. Select On to

activate the keyguard code. If you remove the battery from your phone, you need

to activate the keyguard code again.

For more information, see Locking the keypad on page 27.

Note: When Keyguard is on, calls may be possible to the emergency number

programmed into your phone (e.g. 112 or other official emergency number). Key in

the emergency number and press

have keyed in its last digit.

. The number is displayed only after you

Security settings

To access this menu: Press Menu in standby mode, and select Settings and

Security settings.

Note: When security features that restrict calls are in use (call barring, closed user

group and fixed dialling), calls may be possible to certain emergency numbers in

some networks (e.g. 112 or other official emergency numbers).

•

PIN code request: You can set the phone to ask for the PIN code of the SIM card

when the phone is switched on. Some SIM cards do not allow this function to

be turned off.

Call barring service: With this network service you can restrict the calls that

are made and received with your phone. Select the desired barring option and

set the option on (Activate) or off (Cancel), or check whether the barring

option is activated (Check status).

•

Fixed dialling: You can restrict your outgoing calls to selected phone numbers,

if allowed by your SIM card. Select Numbers to check the phone numbers

(Search), add new numbers to the fixed dialling list (Add name) or clear the list

(Delete all).

•

Closed user group: This network service specifies a group of people whom you

can call and who can call you. Select Default to set the phone to use the group

that you have agreed with your service provider. For more information, contact

your network operator or service provider.

Security level: You can set the phone to ask for the security code when a new

SIM card is inserted into the phone (Phone) or when you select the internal

phone book (Memory). When you change this setting, the numbers in Menus

2-1 to 2-3 are deleted.

Change of access codes: You can change the security code, PIN code, PIN2

code or barring password. These codes can include only the numbers 0 to 9.

Note that you should avoid using access codes similar to the emergency

numbers, such as 112, to prevent accidental dialling of the emergency number.

Restore factory settings

You can reset some of the menu settings to their original values.

Press Menu in standby mode, and select Settings and Restore factory settings. Key

in the security code and press OK.

■ Downloads (Menu 5)

You can fetch (’download’) new ringing tones, games and

pictures from the WAP service whose address may be pre-defined in the phone.

The WAP service is provided by Club Nokia or another service provider. This menu

is shown only if the WAP service is available in your country.

To access this menu: Press Menu in standby mode and select Downloads.

1. Select the items that you want to download. The phone tries to connect to the

WAP service using the active set of connection settings.

If the WAP connection fails and an error message such as Check service

settings is displayed, change the active set of connection settings in the

Services menu and enter this menu to try the connection again.

2. Once the connection is established, follow the instructions in the WAP service

to download the desired tone, game or picture.

The downloaded item is added to the appropriate menu. For example, a game is

added to the Games menu.

For the availability of different WAP services, pricing and tariffs, contact your

network operator and/or the WAP service provider.

■ Reminders (Menu 6)

You can save short reminder notes with an alarm.

To access this menu: Press Menu in standby mode and select Reminders.

Note: Your phone must be switched on to use this function. Do not switch the

phone on when wireless phone use is prohibited or when it may cause interference

or danger.

Scroll to one of the following functions and press Select:

•

Add new: Write a reminder (see Writing text on page 28) and press OK. You can

add an alarm to the reminder if you like.

•

View all: Shows all the reminders. You can browse them with

. The

alarm date and time are shown on the top of the display. Press Options for the

following: Delete, Edit, Send. Select Send to send the selected reminder as a

text message to a compatible phone.

Delete: You can delete the reminders one by one or all at once.

When the reminder time is reached, you can stop the alarm by pressing Quit. If

you press Postp., the alarm stops for a few minutes and then resumes.

■ Games (Menu 7)

The phone offers you the following games to play: Snake II,

Space Impact, Bumper, Bantumi, Link5.

To access this menu: Press Menu in standby mode and select Games.

phone on when wireless phone use is prohibited or when it may cause interference

or danger.

Adjusting the settings common to all the games

In the Games menu, select Settings and the setting you want to change.

You can set the sounds, lights and vibrations (Shakes). When the Vibrating alert

function of the Tone settings menu (Menu 4-1) is off, the phone does not vibrate

even if you set Shakes on.

You can also save the Club Nokia membership number that you need for using

Club Nokia services, for example to send your high score to Club Nokia. For more

information, visit the Club Nokia Web site www.club.nokia.com.

Starting a game and adjusting game-specific settings

In the Games menu, select Select game and the game you want to play.

Select New game to start the game. Select Options, if available, to change the

game’s settings. Select Instructions to view a help text about the game. Select

High scores, if available, to view the highest scores so far. To send your score to

Club Nokia via WAP connection, scroll to the score and press the left selection key,

if you have saved the Club Nokia membership number in the common game

settings.

To resume a game that you have paused (by pressing a selection key,

), select Continue and press any key except for

Making a WAP connection to Club Nokia

In the Games menu, select Download game. The phone tries to connect to Club

Nokia’s WAP site by using the active connection settings.

If the connection fails and an error message such as Check service settings is

displayed, change the active set of connection settings in the Services menu and

return to this Download game menu to connect to Club Nokia again.

For the availability of different WAP services, pricing and tariffs, contact your

network operator and/or the WAP service provider.

Playing a downloaded game

If you have downloaded a Java^TMgame in the Downloads or Applications menu,

you can start the game as follows: In the Games menu, select More games and the

game that you want to play.

■ Applications (Menu 8)

In this menu you can use and manage Java applications that

you have installed in your phone. The applications have to be specially designed

for this Nokia phone.

Various service providers, such as Club Nokia, offer Java applications via WAP

services. Before you can use a Java application you have to download it to your

phone.

Launching an application

1. Press Menu in standby mode, and select Applications and Select app..

2. Scroll to the application or application set that you want to use.

3. Press Options and select Open, or press

, to launch the application or to

open the application set.

If you open an application set, scroll to the desired application and launch it by

pressing Options and selecting Open, or by pressing

If the application uses the whole display, press

selection key names.

WAP access: You can set the application to ask for your permission to connect

to a WAP service: Ask first, Allowed (permission is not asked), Not allowed

(connection is not allowed).

Check version: You can check if a new version of the application is available for

downloading from a WAP service.

Delete to delete the application or application set from the phone.

Details to view, for example, the version number of the application.

WAP site to connect to a WAP service related to the application. This option is

shown only if the application contains an address of a WAP service.

Downloading an application

To download a Java application:

• Press Menu, select Applications and Open browser to download an application

from Club Nokia’s WAP site, for example. The phone tries to make the

connection by using the active connection settings. See also Browsing the

pages of a WAP service on page 85.

If you choose to download an application from a non-Nokia site, you should take

the same precautions, for security or content, as you would with any site.

Note: Only install software from sources that offer adequate protection against

viruses and other harmful software.

Viewing system information

To view the amount of memory available for Java applications: Press Menu, and

select Applications and Memory.

■ Extras (Menu 9)

This menu contains an alarm clock, calculator, stopwatch,

countdown timer, ringing tone composer, picture editor and screen savers.

Alarm clock

You can set the phone to alarm at the desired time.

To access this menu: Press Menu in standby mode, and select Extras and Alarm

clock.

Setting an alarm

Key in the alarm time and press OK. Select whether you want the phone to alarm

only once (Alarm once) or repeatedly on the selected weekdays (Repeat alarm).

If you selected Repeat alarm, scroll to the desired weekday and press Mark. After

you have selected all the weekdays you want, press Back and Yes to set the alarm

on.

If you want to change the alarm time or set the alarm to off, enter the Alarm clock

menu and select Adjust or Off.

When the alarm time is reached

When the alarm time is reached, the phone sounds an alarm tone and flashes the

text Alarm!. Stop the alarm by pressing Stop. If you let the phone alarm for a

minute or press Snooze, the alarm stops for a few minutes and then resumes.

If the alarm time is reached while the phone is off, the phone switches itself on

and starts sounding the alarm tone. If you press Stop, the phone asks whether you

want to switch on the phone. Press No to switch off the phone or Yes to switch it

on.

Note: Do not press Yes when wireless phone use is prohibited or when it may cause

interference or danger.

Calculator

The phone includes a calculator that can also be used for approximate currency

conversions.

To access this menu: Press Menu in standby mode, and select Extras and

Calculator.

or danger.

The calculator has a limited accuracy and rounding errors may occur, especially in

long divisions.

Making a calculation

• Press a key to

to insert a digit. Press

to insert a decimal point.

Press Clear to delete the digit to the left. To change the sign, press Options and

select Change sign.

• Press

once (for +) to add, twice (for -) to subtract, three times (for *) to

multiply and four times (for /) to divide.

• For the total, press Options and select Equals. Press and hold Clear to clear the

display for a new calculation.

Making a currency conversion

To set the exchange rate: Press Options, select Exchange rate, select the desired

option, key in the exchange rate (press

for a decimal point) and press OK.

To make the conversion: Key in the currency amount to be converted, press

Options and select In domestic or In foreign.

Currency conversion in standby mode

In standby mode, key in the amount that you want to convert (press

decimal point, shown as an asterisk). Press Options and select Convert. The

exchange rate that you have set in the Calculator menu is used.

Stopwatch

You can measure time and record split times or lap times, for example, in different

sports.

To access this menu: Press Menu in standby mode, and select Extras and

Stopwatch.

Using the stopwatch consumes the battery and the phone's operating time will be

reduced. Be careful not to let it run in the background when performing other

operations with your phone.

Recording split or lap times

Select Split timing or Lap timing, and press Start. Press Split to record a split time,

Lap to record a lap time or Stop to finish timing. You can scroll through the

recorded times shown below the overall time.

When the timing is stopped, you can press Options for Start (split times only),

Save, or Reset. If you select Start, timing continues from the previously timed

event. If you select Reset, the split or lap times are reset.

Setting the timing to continue in the background

While the time is running, press

. When the stopwatch is on,

is shown in

standby mode. To view the timing, enter the Stopwatch menu and select

Continue.

Managing previously saved times

Enter the Stopwatch menu and select View times or Delete times.

Countdown timer

You can set the phone to alarm after a certain amount of time (Normal timer), for

example in daily tasks, or after certain intervals (Interval timer), for example in

sports exercises.

To access this menu: Press Menu in standby mode, and select Extras and

Countdown timer.

Note: Your phone must be switched on to use this function. Do not switch the

phone on when wireless phone use is prohibited or when it may cause interference

or danger.

Setting the normal timer

Select Normal timer. Key in the time in hours and minutes and press OK. Write a

note that is displayed when the time expires and press OK.

To stop the countdown timer or change the time, enter the Countdown timer

menu and select Normal timer and then Stop timer to set the timer to off or

Change time to adjust the time.

Setting the interval timers

Select Interval timer and Add new timer. Key in the name for the timer and press

OK. Key in the time period in hours and minutes and press OK. Write a note that is

displayed when the period expires and press OK.

Press Options and select Start timer, Add period or Edit period. Select Start timer

to start the timer. Select Add period to add a new period after the selected one.

Select Edit period to change the time and note of the selected period.

Managing previously saved interval timers

Select Interval timer and a previously saved interval timer. Press Options and

select the desired function to erase, edit, view or start the timer or to add a new

timer. To erase a single time period, select View timer, select the desired period,

press Options and select Delete period.

When the time or time period expires

When the countdown timer is running,

is shown in standby mode. When the

time or time period expires, the phone sounds an alarm and flashes the related

note. Press Restart to restart the timer or Quit to stop the alarm.

Composer

You can create a new ringing tone and add it to the ringing tone list in the Profiles

and Tone settings menus.

To access this menu: Press Menu in standby mode, and select Extras and

Composer.

1. Select the tone that you want to edit.

2. Key in the notes. For example, press

Picture editor

You can draw new pictures or edit the preset pictures available in the phone. The

pictures can be used in picture messages and the screen savers that use still

pictures. Pictures can also be edited in the Picture messages menu, see page 49.

To access this menu: Press Menu in standby mode, and select Extras and Picture

editor.

Note: Your phone must be switched on to use this function. Do not switch the

phone on when wireless phone use is prohibited or when it may cause interference

or danger.

1. Select Create new to draw a new picture or Edit existing to edit a previously

created one.

To resume a drawing, for example, after an incoming call, select Continue.

2. If you selected Create new, select the picture size (Picture msg. or Clip-art)

according to the intended use of the picture.

If you selected Edit existing, select the picture size and then the picture

message or clip-art that you want to edit.

3. Draw or edit the picture as described below.

4. To save the picture, press Options and select Save.

To save a clip-art image, scroll to the picture that you want to replace with the

new one and press Replace.

Drawing or editing a picture

1. Press

to set the pen down. Or: Press Options and select Pen on.

2. Draw the picture by moving the cursor with the number keys:

• Press

for a vertical line.

for a horizontal line.

for a diagonal line.

Tip: To move the cursor more quickly, press and hold the desired key.

The colour of the pen is shown on the top right of the display.

3. While drawing, you can access the following editing options by pressing

Options: Colour, Insert, Mirror, Fill, Clear all, Invert colours, Save as, Undo.

• Select Colour to change the colour of the line you are drawing. To change

the colour quickly, press

• Select Insert to add a line, rectangle, circle, text or clip-art image to the

picture. Use the number keys to draw a line, rectangle or circle or to move

the text or clip-art image where you want to insert it, and press Insert or

• Select Mirror to flip the picture horizontally.

• Select Fill to fill the enclosed area, for example a circle, with the selected

colour. Move the cursor to the desired area and press Fill or

• Select Invert colours to change the black pixels to white or vice versa.

• Select Save as to save the picture in the desired size. To save a picture

message as clip-art, select the desired part of the picture by moving the

blinking frame with the number keys.

• Select Undo to undo the following functions: Insert, Fill, Clear all, Invert

colours, Pen on, Pen off.

4. Press

to lift the pen up. Or: Press Options and select Pen off. Now you can

move the cursor to a new place in the picture.

Screen saver

You can select a picture or animation that is displayed after a certain length of

time in standby mode.

To access this menu: Press Menu in standby mode, and select Extras and Screen

saver.

phone on when wireless phone use is prohibited or when it may cause interference

or danger.

Selecting a screen saver

Select Screen saver and Normal or Animated (for a three- dimensional animation).

If you selected Normal, scroll to the picture or animation that you want to use as a

screen saver and press Use.

If you selected Animated, scroll to the desired animation or the text Nokia, and

press Options to use, view or erase the animation or to edit its name (Edit option).

If you select Nokia, you can specify a text, for example your name, that moves

across the display (Edit option) and select how the text moves (Mode option).

The use of an animation as a screen saver uses battery power, which reduces the

operation time of your phone.

Setting a timeout for the screen saver

Select Timeout and select a period of time after which the screen saver is

displayed in standby mode.

Downloading a screen saver

To download a screen saver from the WAP service of Club Nokia, select Dload sc.

saver. This function is shown only if the WAP service is available in your country.

If the WAP connection fails and an error message such as Check service settings is

displayed, change the active set of connection settings in the Services menu,

return to this menu and try the connection again. See also Downloads (Menu 5) on

page 65 and WAP services (Services - Menu 10) on page 80.

For downloading animations from other WAP sites, see View image in Browsing

the pages of a WAP service on page 85.

■ WAP services (Services - Menu 10)

In this menu you can use WAP (Wireless Application Protocol)

services, such as online games, that are specifically designed for mobile phones

and maintained by WAP service providers.

To access this menu: Press Menu in standby mode and select Services.

Note: Your phone must be switched on to use this function. Do not switch the

phone on when wireless phone use is prohibited or when it may cause interference

or danger.

Note that WAP pages use Wireless Mark-up Language (WML). Web pages using

the HyperText Mark-up Language (HTML) cannot be viewed on your phone.

Check the availability of WAP services, pricing and tariffs with your network

operator and/or the WAP service provider whose service you want to use. Service

providers will also give you instructions on how to use their services.

Basic steps for using a WAP service

1. Obtain and save the connection settings for the WAP service you want to use.

See Setting up the phone for a WAP service.

2. Make a connection to the WAP service, see page 84.

3. Browse the pages of the WAP service, see page 85.

4. End the connection to the WAP service, see page 86.

Setting up the phone for a WAP service

You may obtain the connection settings as a text message from the network

operator or service provider that offers the WAP service you want to use. Contact

your network operator or service provider, or visit Club Nokia at

www.club.nokia.com.

You can also key in the settings manually.

Saving the settings received as a text message

When you receive the connection settings as a text message, Service settings

received is displayed.

• To save the received settings, press Options and select Save.

• To view the settings before saving them, press Options and select View. Press

Save to save the settings or Back to return to the options list.

Keying in the connection settings

For appropriate WAP settings, contact your network operator or service provider.

The settings may be available on their Web site.

1. In the Services menu, select Settings and Connection settings.

2. Scroll to a set of connection settings that you want to edit.

3. Press Options and select Edit.

4. Change the following settings one by one. Make all the appropriate settings.

•

Homepage: Key in the homepage address of the WAP service you want to

use (press for a dot), and press OK.

•

Session mode: Select Permanent or Temporary.

Connection security: Select On or Off.

When the connection security is on, the phone tries to use a secure

connection with the WAP service. If a secure connection is not available,

the connection will not be made. If you wish to connect anyway, with a

non-secure connection, set the connection security to Off.

•

Data bearer: Check that GSM data is selected. For pricing, connection speed

and other information, contact your network operator or service provider.

•

Dial-up number: Key in the number and press OK.

IP address: Key in the address (press

for a dot) and press OK.

Authentication type: Select Normal or Secure.

Data call type: Select Analogue or ISDN.

User name: Key in the user name (press

for a dot) and press OK.

Password: Key in the password and press OK. Repeat this to confirm the

password.

5. Once you have made all the appropriate settings, you can change the name of

the setting set. Press Back and then Options, and select Rename. Key in the

name and press OK.

The settings are now saved and you can make a connection to the WAP service,

see page 84.

Sending WAP settings

You can send your WAP settings to a compatible phone.

1. In the Services menu, select Settings and Connection settings.

2. Scroll to the set of connection settings that you want to send.

3. Press Options and select Send settings.

4. Key in the recipient’s phone number and press OK.

The user name and password are not sent.

Making a connection to a WAP service

1. Activate the settings of the WAP service that you want to use:

In the Services menu, select Settings and Connection settings. Scroll to the

setting set you want to use, press Options and select Activate.

If you want to use the same WAP service as the previous time, you can skip this

step.

2. Make a connection to the WAP service in one of the following ways:

• Open the homepage of the WAP service: In the Services menu, select Home.

• Start the connection in standby mode: When you have not keyed in any

characters on the display, press and hold

• Select the bookmark of the WAP service: In the Services menu, select

Bookmarks, scroll to the desired bookmark, press Options and select Go to.

If the bookmark does not work (Check service settings may be displayed),

change the active set of connection settings and try again.

• Enter the address of the WAP service: In the Services menu, select Go to

address, key in the address (press

for special characters) and press OK.

Note that it is not necessary to add the prefix http:// in front of the address

since it will be added automatically. If you are using a protocol other than

http, add the appropriate prefix.

Browsing the pages of a WAP service

Once you have established a connection to the WAP service, you can start

browsing its WAP pages.

The function of the phone keys may vary in different WAP services. Follow the text

guides on the display. For more information, contact your WAP service provider.

General guidelines for using the keys

• Use

to browse the WAP page and highlight the desired item. The

item can be, for example, underlined text (a ’link’).

• Press

to select a highlighted item.

• Press Back to return to the WAP page that you viewed previously.

• Press

characters.

to enter special

• Press Options for the following options. All options may not be available at the

same time. The service provider may also offer other options.

Home: Takes you back to the homepage of the WAP service.

Reload: Refreshes the WAP page.

Open link: Selects a link or any other highlighted item on the WAP page.

Service inbox: Shows the list of service messages, see Service inbox on page 88.

Appear. sett.: You can wrap the text lines and hide the images on the WAP

page. See also page 87.

Bookmarks: You can manage bookmarks, for example, save the current WAP

page as a bookmark. See page 87.

Use number: Copies a number from the current WAP page for saving or calling,

and ends the call.

Go to address: You can make a connection to the desired WAP page. Key in the

WAP address (press

for a dot) and press OK.

Clear the cache: Empties the cache memory of the phone (see also page 89).

Security info: Shows whether the connection is secure.

Quit: Quits browsing and ends the call.

View image: You can scroll a still picture or an animated picture that cannot be

displayed entirely. Press

(or

) to scroll the picture up or

down. Press or

to scroll the picture left or right.

Press Options for View next, View previous or Save image.

With Save image you can save pictures for using them in picture messages or

as screensavers, and animated pictures for using them as screensavers. If the

picture is too large for picture messages and screensavers, move the box

shown over the picture to select the area that you want to save, and press

Select.

Ending a WAP connection

When you are using a WAP service, press Options and select Quit. When Quit

browsing? is shown, press Yes.

Alternatively, press

twice.

The phone ends the call and closes the WAP connection.

Appearance settings of WAP pages

1. When no WAP connection is in progress

• Press Menu in standby mode, and select Services, Settings and Appearance

settings.

When a WAP connection is in progress

• Press Options and select Appear. sett..

2. Select Text wrapping or Show images.

3. Select On or Off for Text wrapping and Yes or No for Show images.

When Text wrapping is set to On, the text continues on the next line if it

cannot be shown on one line.

When Show images is set to No, none of the pictures on the WAP page are

shown. This may speed up the browsing of WAP pages that contain a lot of

pictures.

Saving and managing bookmarks

1. When no WAP connection is in progress

• Press Menu in standby mode, and select Services and Bookmarks.

When a WAP connection is in progress

• Press Options and select Bookmarks.

2. Scroll to the desired bookmark and press Options. If you want to save a new

bookmark, you can select any bookmark.

3. Select Go to, Edit, Delete, Send bookmark or Add bookmark or Save bookmark

(available during a WAP connection).

• Select Go to to open the WAP page associated with the bookmark.

• Select Send bookmark to send the bookmark to a compatible phone.

• Select Add bookmark to key in and save a bookmark or Save bookmark to

save the current WAP page as a bookmark.

Note that your phone may have some pre-installed bookmarks for sites not

affiliated with Nokia. Nokia does not warrant or endorse these sites. If you choose

to access them, you should take the same precautions, for security or content, as

you would with any site.

Service inbox

The phone can receive service messages (’pushed messages’) from your service

provider. These messages can contain, for example, a list of news headlines and

the address of a WAP service that offers the news.

Setting the phone to receive service messages

Press Menu in standby mode, and select Services, Settings, Service inbox settings,

Service messages and On.

Viewing a received service message

1. When no WAP connection is in progress

When you receive a service message, 1 service message received is displayed.

To view the message immediately, press View.

To view the message later, press Exit. When you want to view the message,

press Menu in standby mode and select Services and Service inbox.

When a WAP connection is in progress

Press Options and select Service inbox.

2. Scroll to the message you want, press Options and select Retrieve, Details or

Delete.

• Select Retrieve to download the content indicated by the service message.

Emptying the cache memory

Note: The information or services you have accessed are stored in the cache of your

phone. A cache is a buffer memory, which is used to store data temporarily. If you

have tried to access or have accessed confidential information requiring passwords

(for example, your bank account), empty the cache of your phone after each use.

To empty the cache memory:

• When no WAP connection is in progress: Press Menu, and select Services and

Clear the cache.

• When a WAP connection is in progress: Press Options and select Clear the

cache.

Authority certificates

In order to use some WAP services such as banking services, you need an authority

certificate. Using the certificate can help you to improve the security of

connections between your phone and a WAP gateway or WAP server, if the

Connection security option is set to On.

You can download the certificate from a WAP page if the WAP service supports

the use of security certificates. After the download, you can view the certificate

and then save or delete it. If you save the certificate, it is added to the list of

certificates in the phone.

You can only be sure that a WAP gateway or WAP server is the one it claims to be

after its identity has been checked against the corresponding certificate in the

phone.

You will see a note on the phone display if the identity of the WAP server or WAP

gateway cannot be verified, the WAP server or WAP gateway certificate is not

authentic or if you do not have the right certificate in your phone.

To view the list of security certificates:

In the Services menu, select Settings and then Authority certificates.

Security icon

If the security icon ( ) is displayed during a WAP connection, the data

transmission between the phone and the WAP gateway or WAP server, identified

by the IP address setting in the Connection settings, is encrypted and secure.

However, the security icon does not indicate that the data transmission between

the gateway and the content server (place where the requested resource is stored)

is secure. It is up to the service provider to secure the data transmission between

the gateway and the content server.

■ SIM services (Menu 11)

This menu is shown only if your SIM card provides additional

services. The name and contents of this menu depend on the services available.

To access this menu: Press Menu in standby mode, and press

and Select.

Note: For availability, rates and information on using SIM services, contact your

SIM card vendor, e.g. network operator, service provider or other vendor.

Note that using SIM services may involve sending a text message (SMS) or making

a phone call for which you may be charged.

5. Battery statements

■ Charging and Discharging

Your phone is powered by a rechargeable battery.

Note that a new battery's full performance is achieved only after two or three complete

charge and discharge cycles!

The battery can be charged and discharged hundreds of times but it will eventually wear out.

When the operating time (talk-time and standby time) is noticeably shorter than normal, it

is time to buy a new battery.

Use only batteries approved by the phone manufacturer and recharge your battery only with

the chargers approved by the manufacturer. Unplug the charger when not in use. Do not

leave the battery connected to a charger for longer than a week, since overcharging may

shorten its lifetime. If left unused a fully charged battery will discharge itself over time.

Temperature extremes can affect the ability of your battery to charge.

Use the battery only for its intended purpose.

Never use any charger or battery which is damaged.

Do not short-circuit the battery. Accidental short-circuiting can occur when a metallic

object (coin, clip or pen) causes direct connection of the + and - terminals of the battery

(metal strips on the battery) for example when you carry a spare battery in your pocket or

purse. Short-circuiting the terminals may damage the battery or the connecting object.

Leaving the battery in hot or cold places, such as in a closed car in summer or winter

conditions, will reduce the capacity and lifetime of the battery. Always try to keep the

battery between 15°C and 25°C. A phone with a hot or cold battery may temporarily not

work, even when the battery is fully charged. Batteries' performance is particularly limited in

temperatures well below freezing.

Do not dispose of batteries in a fire !

Dispose of batteries according to local regulations (e.g. recycling). Do not dispose as

household waste.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

Your phone is a product of superior design and craftsmanship and should be treated with

care. The suggestions below will help you to fulfil any warranty obligations and to enjoy this

product for many years.

•

Keep the phone and all its parts and accessories out of the reach of small children.

Keep the phone dry. Precipitation, humidity and all types of liquids or moisture can

contain minerals that will corrode electronic circuits.

•

Do not use or store the phone in dusty, dirty areas. Its moving parts can be damaged.

Do not store the phone in hot areas. High temperatures can shorten the life of electronic

devices, damage batteries, and warp or melt certain plastics.

•

Do not store the phone in cold areas. When it warms up (to its normal temperature),

moisture can form inside, which may damage electronic circuit boards.

•

Do not attempt to open the phone. Non-expert handling may damage it.

Do not drop, knock or shake the phone. Rough handling can break internal circuit boards.

Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents to clean the phone.

Do not paint the phone. Paint can clog the moving parts and prevent proper operation.

Use only the supplied or an approved replacement antenna. Unauthorised antennas,

modifications or attachments could damage the phone and may violate regulations

governing radio devices.

All of the above suggestions apply equally to your phone, battery, charger or any accessory.

If any of them is not working properly, take it to your nearest qualified service facility. The

personnel there will assist you and, if necessary, arrange for service.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

■ Traffic Safety

Do not use a hand-held telephone while driving a vehicle. Always secure the phone in its

holder; do not place the phone on the passenger seat or where it can break loose in a

collision or sudden stop.

Remember road safety always comes first!

■ Operating environment

Remember to follow any special regulations in force in any area and always switch off your

phone whenever it is forbidden to use it, or when it may cause interference or danger.

Use the phone only in its normal operating positions.

Parts of the phone are magnetic. Metallic materials may be attracted to the phone, and

persons with a hearing aid should not hold the phone to the ear with the hearing aid. Always

secure the phone in its holder, because metallic materials may be attracted by the earpiece.

Do not place credit cards or other magnetic storage media near the phone, because

information stored on them may be erased.

■ Electronic devices

Most modern electronic equipment is shielded from radio frequency (RF) signals. However,

certain electronic equipment may not be shielded against the RF signals from your wireless

phone.

Pacemakers

Pacemaker manufacturers recommend that a minimum separation of 20 cm (6 inches) be

maintained between a handheld wireless phone and a pacemaker to avoid potential

interference with the pacemaker. These recommendations are consistent with the

independent research by and recommendations of Wireless Technology Research. Persons

with pacemakers:

Should always keep the phone more than 20 cm (6 inches) from their pacemaker when

the phone is switched on;

•

Should not carry the phone in a breast pocket;

Should use the ear opposite the pacemaker to minimise the potential for interference.

If you have any reason to suspect that interference is taking place, switch off your phone

immediately.

Hearing aids

Some digital wireless phones may interfere with some hearing aids. In the event of such

interference, you may want to consult your service provider.

Other medical devices

Operation of any radio transmitting equipment, including cellular phones, may interfere

with the functionality of inadequately protected medical devices. Consult a physician or the

manufacturer of the medical device to determine if they are adequately shielded from

external RF energy or if you have any questions. Switch off your phone in health care

facilities when any regulations posted in these areas instruct you to do so. Hospitals or

health care facilities may be using equipment that could be sensitive to external RF energy.

Vehicles

RF signals may affect improperly installed or inadequately shielded electronic systems in

motor vehicles (e.g. electronic fuel injection systems, electronic anti-skid (anti-lock) braking

systems, electronic speed control systems, air bag systems). Check with the manufacturer or

its representative regarding your vehicle. You should also consult the manufacturer of any

equipment that has been added to your vehicle.

Posted facilities

Switch your phone off in any facility where posted notices so require.

■ Potentially explosive atmospheres

Switch off your phone when in any area with a potentially explosive atmosphere and obey

all signs and instructions. Sparks in such areas could cause an explosion or fire resulting in

bodily injury or even death.

Users are advised to switch off the phone when at a refuelling point (service station). Users

are reminded of the need to observe restrictions on the use of radio equipment in fuel depots

(fuel storage and distribution areas), chemical plants or where blasting operations are in

progress.

Areas with a potentially explosive atmosphere are often but not always clearly marked. They

include below deck on boats; chemical transfer or storage facilities; vehicles using liquified

petroleum gas (such as propane or butane); areas where the air contains chemicals or

particles, such as grain, dust or metal powders; and any other area where you would

normally be advised to turn off your vehicle engine.

■ Vehicles

Only qualified personnel should service the phone, or install the phone in a vehicle. Faulty

installation or service may be dangerous and may invalidate any warranty which may apply

to the unit.

Check regularly that all wireless phone equipment in your vehicle is mounted and operating

properly.

Do not store or carry flammable liquids, gases or explosive materials in the same

compartment as the phone, its parts or accessories.

For vehicles equipped with an air bag, remember that an air bag inflates with great force. Do

not place objects, including both installed or portable wireless equipment in the area over

the air bag or in the air bag deployment area. If in-vehicle wireless equipment is improperly

installed and the air bag inflates, serious injury could result.

Using your phone while in the air is prohibited. Switch off your phone before boarding an

aircraft. The use of wireless telephones in an aircraft may be dangerous to the operation of

the aircraft, disrupt the wireless telephone network and may be illegal.

Failure to observe these instructions may lead to suspension or denial of telephone services

to the offender, or legal action or both.

■ Emergency calls

Important:

This phone, like any wireless phone, operates using radio signals, wireless and

landline networks as well as user-programmed functions. Because of this,

connections in all conditions can not be guaranteed. Therefore you should never

rely solely upon any wireless phone for essential communications (e.g. medical

emergencies).

Emergency calls may not be possible on all wireless phone networks or when certain

network services and/or phone features are in use. Check with local service providers.

To make an emergency call:

1. If the phone is not on, switch it on. Check for adequate signal strength.

Some networks may require that a valid SIM card is properly inserted in the phone.

2. Press

as many times as needed (e.g. to exit a call, to exit a menu, etc.) to clear the

display and ready the phone for calls.

3. Key in the emergency number for your present location (e.g. 112 or other official

emergency number). Emergency numbers vary by location.

4. Press the

key.

If certain features are in use, you may first need to turn those features off before you can

make an emergency call. Consult this guide and your local cellular service provider.

When making an emergency call, remember to give all the necessary information as

accurately as possible. Remember that your wireless phone may be the only means of

communication at the scene of an accident - do not cut off the call until given permission to

do so.

■ Certification information (SAR)

THIS MODEL PHONE MEETS THE EU REQUIREMENTS FOR EXPOSURE TO RADIO WAVES.

Your mobile phone is a radio transmitter and receiver. It is designed and manufactured not

to exceed the limits for exposure to radiofrequency (RF) energy recommended by The

Council of the European Union. These limits are part of comprehensive guidelines and

establish permitted levels of RF energy for the general population. The guidelines were

developed by independent scientific organisations through periodic and thorough

evaluation of scientific studies. The limits include a substantial safety margin designed to

assure the safety of all persons, regardless of age and health.

The exposure standard for mobile phones employs a unit of measurement known as the

Specific Absorption Rate, or SAR. The SAR limit recommended by The Council of the

European Union is 2.0 W/kg.* Tests for SAR have been conducted using standard operating

positions with the phone transmitting at its highest certified power level in all tested

frequency bands. Although the SAR is determined at the highest certified power level, the

actual SAR level of the phone while operating can be well below the maximum value. This is

because the phone is designed to operate at multiple power levels so as to use only the

power required to reach the network. In general, the closer you are to a base station

antenna, the lower the power output.

Before a phone model is available for sale to the public, compliance with the European

R&TTE directive must be shown. This directive includes as one essential requirement the

protection of the health and the safety for the user and any other person. The highest SAR

value for this model phone when tested for compliance against the standard was 0.81 W/kg.

While there may be differences between the SAR levels of various phones and at various

positions, they all meet the EU requirements for RF exposure.

* The SAR limit for mobile phones used by the public is 2.0 watts/kilogram (W/kg) averaged

This limited warranty shall apply in part of Nokia

which all by their nature have a limited lifetime, and

Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania,

Macedonia, Malta, Norway, Poland, Romania, the

Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Switzerland and Turkey.

(iv) the Product serial number, the accessory date

code or the IMEI number has been removed, erased,

defaced, altered or is illegible;

(v) the defect was caused by a defective function of

the cellular network;

(vi) the defect was caused by the fact that the

Product was used with or connected to an accessory

not manufactured and supplied by Nokia or used in

other than its intended use;

(vii) the defect was caused by the fact that the

battery was short-circuited or seals of the battery

enclosure or cells were broken or show evidence of

tampering or the battery was used in equipment

other than for which it has been specified; or

3. During the warranty period Nokia or its authorized

service company will repair or replace, at Nokia’s

sole discretion, a defective Product. Nokia will

return the repaired Product or another Product to

the Customer in good working condition. All parts

or other equipment for which replacements have

been provided shall become the property of Nokia.

(viii) the Product software needs to be upgraded due

to changes in cellular network parameters.

4. A repaired or replaced Product will not be given a

prolonged or renewed warranty period.

present either i) a legible and non-modified

original warranty card which clearly indicates the

name and address of the seller, the date and place

of purchase, the product type and the IMEI or

other serial number or alternatively ii) a legible and

non-modified original purchase receipt which

contains the same information, if such purchase

receipt is presented to the seller/dealer of the

Product.

5. This limited warranty will not cover painted covers

or other similar personalized parts. In all cases that

require unlocking or locking of an operator SIM-

lock, Nokia will first direct the Customer to such

operator for unlocking or locking of the operator

SIM-lock before repairing or replacing the Product.
