Insert the cassette.
— Automatic Memory
The unit selects the stations with clearst
reception and memorises them. You can store
up to 6 stations on each band (FM1, FM2, FM3,
AM1 and AM2).
Caution
When tuning in the station while driving, use
Automatic Memory to prevent accidents.
Playback will start automatically.
1 Press (TUNER) repeatedly to select the
desired band (FM1, FM2, FM3, AM1 and
AM2).

Notes
The side facing down is being played.
• The unit will not store stations with weak signals. If
there are only a few stations that you can receive, the
stations stored before will remain on the other number
buttons.
• When a preset number is indicated in the display , the
unit starts storing stations from the one currently
displayed.
Tip
To change the tape transport direction, press both 0 and
) at the same time.
To eject the cassette, press 6.

Memorizing only the
desired stations
Receiving the memorized
stations
You can store up to 6 stations on each band (18
for FM1, FM2 and FM3, 12 for AM1 and AM2)
in order of your choice.
1 Press (TUNER) repeatedly to select the
desired band.
2 Press the number button ((1) to (6))
momentarily where the desired station is
stored.
1 Press (TUNER) repeatedly to select the
desired band.
Tip
2 Press either side of (SEEK/MANU) to tune
in the station that you want to store on
the number button.
Press (A.MEM/M.SCAN) momentarily to receive in order
the stations stored in the memory (Memory scan
Function).
If you cannot tune in a preset
station
3 Keep the desired number button ((1) to
(6)) pressed for two seconds until you
hear a beep tones.
Press either side of (SEEK/MANU)
momentarily to search for the station
(automatic tuning).
Scanning stops when the unit receives a
station. Press either side of (SEEK/MANU)
repeatedly until the desired station is
received.
The number button indication appears in the
display.

Note
If you try to store another station on the same number
button, the previously stored station will be erased.
Note
If the automatic tuning stops too frequently, press
(SENS) momentarily until “LCL” (local seek mode)
appears in the display. Only the stations with relatively
strong signals will be tuned on.
Tip
If you know the frequency of the station you want to listen
to, press and hold either side of (SEEK/MANU) until the
desired frequency appears (manual tuning).
If FM stereo reception is poor
— Monaural mode
Press (SENS) momentarily until “MONO”
appears.
The sound improves, but it will becomes
monaural (“STEREO” disappears).

Other Functions
Adjusting the sound
characteristics
You can adjust the bass, treble, balance and
fader.
Precautions
• If your car was parked in direct sunlight
resulting in a considerable rise in
temperature inside the car, allow the unit to
cool off before operating it.
• If no power is being supplied to the unit,
check the connections first. If everything is in
order, check the fuse.
• If no sound comes from the speakers of a
2-speaker system, set the fader control to the
center position.
1 Select the item you want to adjust by
pressing (SEL) repeatedly.
To adjust bass or treble, press (SEL)
repeatedly until “BAS“ or “TRE“ flashes.
• When the tape is played back for a long
period, the cassette shell may become warm
because of the built-in power amplifier.
However, this is not a sign of a malfunction.

To maintain high quality sound
If you have drink holders near your audio
equipment, be careful not to splash juice or
other soft drinks onto the car audio. Sugary
residues on this unit or cassette tapes may
contaminate the playback heads, reduce the
sound quality, or prevent sound reproduction
altogether.
Changing the sound and
display settings
Cassette cleaning kits cannot remove sugar
from the tape heads.
Enjoying bass and treble even at
low volume — Loudness
Bass and treble will be reinforced.
Press (LOUD) .
“LOUD” appears.
To cancel, press (LOUD) again.
Turn off the beeps
Press (6) while pressing (SEL).
To obtain the beeps again, press these
buttons again.

Maintenance
Fuse Replacement
When replacing the fuse, be sure to use one
matching the amperage rating stated on the
fuse. If the fuse blows, check the power
connection and replace the fuse. If the fuse
blows again after replacement, there may be
an internal malfunction. In such a case, consult
your nearest Sony dealer.
• Do not touch the tape surface of a cassette, as
any dirt or dust will contaminate the heads.
• Keep cassettes away from equipment with
built-in magnets such as speakers and
amplifiers, as erasure or distortion on the
recorded tape could occur.
• Do not expose cassettes to direct sunlight,
extremely cold temperatures or moisture.
• Slack in the tape may cause the tape to be
caught in the machine. Before you insert the
tape, use a pencil or similar object to turn the
reel and take up any slack.
Remove the bracket first, then replace the fuse
on the rear of the unit.

• Distorted cassettes and loose labels can cause
problems when inserting or ejecting tapes.
Remove or replace loose labels.
Warning
Never use a fuse with an amperage rating
exceeding the one supplied with the unit as
this could damage the unit.
Removing the unit
Cassettes longer than 90 minutes
The use of cassettes longer than 90 minutes is
not recommended except for long continuous
play. The tapes used for these cassettes are
very thin and tend to be stretched easily.
Frequent playing and stopping of these tapes
may cause them to be pulled into the cassette
deck mechanism.
To prevent the unit from being stolen
When you leave your car, remove the unit
from the bracket and take it away with you.
Be sure to turn off the power of the unit before
removing the unit, otherwise you may hear a
noise.
Caution
Be careful when you remove the unit. The rear
of the unit becomes very hot just after
operating it because of a built-in power
amplifer.

Si la recepción de FM estéreo es
débil — Modo monofónico

Es posible ajustar los graves, los agudos, el
balance y el equilibrio entre los altavoces.
•Si su automóvil ha estado aparcado bajo la
luz directa del sol y esto ha provocado un
aumento considerable de la temperatura en
el interior; espere a que la unidad se enfríe
antes de ponerla en funcionamiento.
•Si la unidad no recibe alimentación, verifique
las conexiones; si éstas no presentan ningún
problema, compruebe el fusible.
•Si no se escucha ningún sonido en los
altavoces del sistema de 2 altavoces, sitúe el
control de equilibrio entre los altavoces en su
posición central.
•Cuando se reproduce una cinta durante un
largo período de tiempo, la caja de la misma
puede calentarse debido al amplificador
incorporado en la unidad. Esto no es señal de
mal funcionamiento del equipo.
1 Pulse varias veces (SEL) para seleccionar
la característica que desea ajustar.
Para ajustar los graves o los agudos, pulse
(SEL) varias veces hasta que la indicación

sonido
Si tiene soportes para bebidas cerca de su
equipo de sonido, tenga cuidado de no salpicar

residuos de azúcar en la unidad o en las cintas
pueden contaminar los cabezales de
reproducción, reducir la calidad del sonido o
impedir la reproducción.

Notas sobre los cassettes
Cuidado de los cassettes
Mantenimiento
Sustitución de fusibles
•No toque la cinta de una cassette, ya que
cualquier suciedad o polvo contaminará los
cabezales.
Cuando cambie un fusible, asegúrese de
emplear uno que sea del amperaje adecuado.
Si el fusible se quema, compruebe la conexión
de alimentación y cámbielo. Si una vez
cambiado éste vuelve a quemarse, puede
existir un mal funcionamiento interno. En este
caso, consulte a su representante Sony más
cercano.
•Mantenga los cassettes alejados de equipos
que contenga imanes, como pueden ser
altavoces o amplificadores, ya que el
contenido de la cinta puede borrarse o
distorsionarse.
•No exponga los cassettes a la luz directa del
sol, a temperaturas extremadamente frías o a
humedad.
•Si la cinta no está tensa puede quedarse
atrapada en la máquina. Antes de insertar la
cinta, use un lápiz u otro objeto similar para
ajustarla.
Retire el soporte y, a continuación, cambie el
fusible de la parte posterior de la unidad.

Advertencia
•Los cassettes doblados o las etiquetas que no
estén correctamente adheridas pueden causar
problemas en la inserción o expulsión de la
cinta. Retire o cambie las etiquetas
estropeadas.
No emplee nunca un fusible de amperaje
superior al suministrado con la unidad, ya que
esto podría dañarla.
Extracción de la unidad
Cassettes de duración superior a 90 minutos
No se recomienda el uso de cassettes de
duración superior a 90 minutos excepto para
reproducción continuada de larga duración.
Las cintas empleadas en estos cassettes son
muy delgadas y tienden a estirarse fácilmente.
La reproducción y detención frecuente de este
tipo de cintas puede provocar que se queden
atrapadas dentro del mecanismo de la platina.
Para evitar que la unidad sea
robada
Cuando deje el coche, retire la unidad del
soporte y llévesela consigo. Compruebe que ha
desactivado la alimentación de la unidad antes
de retirarla, ya que de otro modo puede
producirse ruido.
Precaucione
Tenga cuidado cuando extraiga la unidad. La
parte posterior de la unidad estará muy
caliente después de haberla utilizado debido a
su amplificador de potencia incorporado.
