Get Started with your
LIFEBOOK® P701 Notebook
This guide will lead you through the start-up process for your new LIFEBOOK notebook and will also
provide some valuable tips. To learn about all the exciting features that your new LIFEBOOK notebook has
to offer, please see the User’s Guide that can be accessed after completing the start-up procedure.

Ensure that your LIFEBOOK is on a hard level surface and that the air vents
are not blocked.

Lift the display, being careful not to touch the screen.
Adjust the display until it is at a comfortable viewing angle.

Plug the AC adapter into your notebook.
Connect the power cord to an electrical outlet.

Press the Power/Suspend/Resume switch.
The notebook is now on and the battery is being charged.
The notebook will begin a power-on self test. Once successfully
completed, the operating system will the initialization process.
The lithium ion battery is not charged upon purchase. Initially you will
need to connect either the AC adapter or Auto/Airline adapter to use
your notebook.

4. Starting Windows® for the First time

When configuring Windows® 7, skip the step to setup the WLAN.
Otherwise, there may be issues when activating Click Me!.

Accept the Microsoft® Windows® Licensing Agreement and the Fujitsu End
User License Agreement to proceed. Select your User ID and Password
during the “Welcome Screen.” Keep a record of your User ID and password
stored in a secure place. THE SCREEN WILL GO DARK FOR SEVERAL
MINUTES. Do not attempt to turn power on or off during this stage.

5. Activate Additional Utilities,
Applications, & Drivers
Check to be sure that your LIFEBOOK is NOT connected to a
network or the Internet.

Move the WLAN switch to the on position (to configure WLAN and Bluetooth)
and check to be sure your LIFEBOOK is NOT connected to the network or
the Internet.
Ensure that the AC adapter is connected and supplying power to your
notebook before activating Click Me! It will take 25 to 30 minutes for
Click Me! to install and configure your drivers and utilities.

In addition to an icon on the desktop, a dialog box
will automatically open that prompts you to run
Click Me!. If you choose not to run Click Me! at this
time, the Click Me! icon will appear on your desktop.
When you click the Click Me! icon, your system will
automatically build the icon tray in the bottom right
of the screen. These icons provide links to utilities
that you will frequently access.

6. Connect to the Internet or Network

Ensure the wireless switch is “On” to turn on the wireless device, or—
Connect an Ethernet cable (not supplied) to the LAN jack on your
notebook and to a wall jack or to Ethernet router.

(us.fujitsu.com/computers). This helps us to better serve you.

7. Create backup media with myRecovery
(Hard drive HDD recovery models only)

Click on the [MyRecovery] icon to create backup recovery media and
application discs.
Look in the “Saving and Recovering Your Factory and System Images”
guide for more detailed instructions.
Recovery discs (for your pre-loaded factory image) are NOT included
with LIFEBOOKS that are shipped with MyRecovery. If your hard
drive crashes or the computer system becomes corrupted, you
can use the recovery discs that you create to restore the system
to its original condition.

8. User’s Guide

Your electronic User’s Guide contains important detailed information about your new computer.
You can access your User’s Guide by selecting its icon from the screen desktop.
The User’s Guide will be copied to your hard drive in the C:\Fujitsu\Manual directory.
Shortcuts to the User’s Guide will be placed on your desktop and in the Start menu.

It takes approximately 4.5 hours to
charge the high-capacity battery
if the notebook is turned off or in
Suspend mode.

Shows the charge level of the indicated

Hard Disk/optical Drive Access Indicator
Lights when the hard disk or optical drive is
being accessed.
Green, solid: Between 50% and
100% charged.
Orange, solid: Between 13% and 49% charged.
Red, solid: Between 0% and 12% charged.
Red, blinking: There is a problem with the battery.
Off: There is no battery installed.
To prevent corruption of data, do not press
the power button when the hard disk/optical
drive access indicator is lit.
NumLk Indicator
Shows that the integral keyboard is set in
ten-key numeric keypad mode.
BATTERIES SUBJECTED TO SHOCKS, VIBRATION
OR EXTREME TEMPERATURES CAN BE
PERMANENTLY DAMAGED.
CapsLock Indicator
Shows that your keyboard is set to type
in all capital letters.
A SHORTED BATTERY IS DAMAGED AND MUST
BE REPLACED.
ScrLk Indicator
Shows that your scroll lock is active.

Drivers
Power Indicator
Shows whether your system is operational.
It has several different states.

The Application Panel consists of buttons that
allow you to launch user-defined applications
with the touch of a button when your system
is on. Also included in the panel is a Support
button that allows you to either launch the
Fujitsu Support Center utility or to launch a
user-defined application.
Steady On: There is power to your computer
and it is ready for use.
Flashing: Your computer is in Sleep mode.
Steady Off: Your system is either in Hibernate
mode, or has been turned off.
The default settings for the buttons are:

IF THE BATTERY PACK IS INSTALLED WHILE THE
POWER IS TURNED OFF, THE BATTERY LEVEL
INDICATOR WILL DISPLAY THE CHARGE LEVEL
FOR FIVE SECONDS AFTER IT BLINKS ORANGE.

This unit requires an AC adapter to operate. Use only UL Listed I.T.E. Class II Adapters with an output rating of 19 VDC, with
a current of 3.16 A, 60 W or with a current of 4.22A with the use of the port replicator. When using your notebook equipment,
basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and injury to persons, including

Recycling your Battery
Over time, the batteries that run your mobile computer will begin to hold a charge for a shorter amount of
time; this is a natural occurrence for all batteries. When this occurs, you may want to replace the battery
with a fresh one*. If you replace it, it is important that you dispose of the old battery properly because
batteries contain materials that could cause environmental damage if disposed of improperly
Fujitsu is very concerned with environmental protection, and has enlisted the services of the Rechargeable
Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC)**, a non-profit public service organization dedicated to protecting
our environment by recycling old batteries at no cost to you.
RBRC has drop-off points at tens of thousands of locations throughout the United States and Canada.
If there are no convenient RBRC locations near you, you can also go to the EIA Consumer Education Initiative
Remember – protecting the environment is a cooperative effort, and you should make every effort to protect it
for current and future generations.

passe en lieu sûr. L’ÉCRAN SE VIDERA PENDANT PLUSIEURS MINUTES.
N’essayez pas d’allumer ou d’éteindre l’ordinateur pendant cette phase.

Vérifiez que votre LIFEBOOK N’EST PAS connecté à un réseau ou
à Internet.

Mettez le commutateur du dispositif de connexion réseau sans fil sur la
position de marche (configuration de ce dispositif et de Bluetooth), et vé-
rifiez que votre LIFEBOOK N’EST PAS connecté à un réseau ou à Internet.
Avant d’activer Click Me!, assurez-vous que l’adaptateur

portable. Il faudra environ 25 à 30 minutes pour que Click Me!
puisse installer et configurer vos pilotes et vos utilitaires.

8. Guide d’utilisation

Votre guide d’utilisation électronique contient des informations importantes

Le guide d’utilisation sera alors copié sur votre disque dur, dans le répertoire
C:\Fujitsu\Manual. Le système crée ensuite des raccourcis sur votre bureau

Recyclage de la batterie
Avec le temps, l’autonomie des batteries qui alimentent votre ordinateur portable finira par diminuer ;
c’est un phénomène naturel pour toutes les batteries. Lorsque vous remarquerez cela, songez à
installer une batterie neuve*. Si vous remplacez votre ancienne batterie, il est important que vous la
jetiez comme il convient car, dans le cas contraire, les matériaux qu’elle contient risquent de nuire à
