TWO YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY
For Projectors, Video Processors and Controllers
Congratulations on your purchase of a Vidikron video product and welcome to the Vidikron family! With proper installation, setup
and care, you should enjoy many years of unparalleled video performance.
This is a LIMITED WARRANTY as defined in the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. Please read it carefully and retain it with your other
important documents.
WHAT IS COVERED UNDER THE TERMS OF THIS LIMITED WARRANTY:
SERVICE LABOR: Vidikron will pay for service labor by Vidikron Authorized Service Center when needed as a result of manufacturing
defect for a period of two (2) years from the effective date of delivery to the end user (excluding the lamp).
PARTS: (Not including the lamp) Vidikron will provide new or rebuilt replacement parts for the parts that fail due to defects in
materials or workmanship for a period of two (2) years from the effective date of delivery to the end user. Such replacement parts
are then subsequently warranted for the remaining portion (if any) of the original warranty period.
PROJECTOR LAMP: Vidikron will pay for service labor by a Vidikron Authorized Service Center when needed as a result of a
manufacturing defect for a period of six (6) months or 1000 hours, which ever comes first, from the effective date of delivery to the
end user. In addition, Vidikron will provide a new or rebuilt replacement lamp for the lamp that fails due to defects in materials or
workmanship for a period of six (6) months or 1000 hours, which ever comes first, from the effective date of delivery to the end
user. Such replacement lamps are then subsequently warranted for the remaining portion (if any) of the original warranty period.
WHAT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE TERMS OF THIS LIMITED WARRANTY:
This Limited Warranty only covers failure due to defects in materials and workmanship that occur during normal use and does not
cover normal maintenance. This Limited Warranty does not cover cabinets or any appearance items; failure resulting from
accident, misuse, abuse, neglect, mishandling, misapplication, faulty or improper installation or setup adjustments; improper
maintenance, alteration, improper use of any input signal; damage due to lightning or power line surges, spikes and brownouts;
damage that occurs during shipping or transit; or damage that is attributed to acts of God. In the case of remote control units,
damage resulting from leaking, old, damaged or improper batteries is also excluded from coverage under this Limited Warranty.
CAUTION: THIS LIMITED WARRANTY ONLY COVERS VIDIKRON PRODUCTS PURCHASED FROM VIDIKRON AUTHORIZED DEALERS.
ALL OTHER PRODUCTS ARE SPECIFICALLY EXCLUDED FROM COVERAGE UNDER THIS LIMITED WARRANTY. MOREOVER, DAMAGE
RESULTING DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY FROM IMPROPER INSTALLATION OR SETUP IS SPECIFICALLY EXCLUDED FROM COVERAGE
UNDER THIS LIMITED WARRANTY.
RIGHTS, LIMITS AND EXCLUSIONS:
Vidikron limits its obligations under any implied warranties under state laws to a period not to exceed the warranty period. There
are no express warranties. Vidikron also excludes any obligation on its part for incidental or consequential damages related to the
failure of this product to function properly. Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, and some
states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages. So the above limitations or exclusions may
not apply to you. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights that vary from state to state.

EFFECTIVE WARRANTY DATE:
This warranty begins on the effective date of delivery to the end user. For your convenience, keep the original bill of sale as
evidence of the purchase date.
IMPORTANT -- WARRANTY REGISTRATION:
Please fill out and mail your warranty registration card. It is imperative that Vidikron knows how to reach you promptly if we should
discover a safety problem or product update for which you must be notified.
CONTACT A VIDIKRON AUTHORIZED SERVICE CENTER TO OBTAIN SERVICE:
Repairs made under the terms of this Limited Warranty covering your Vidikron video product will be performed at the location of
the product, during usual working hours, providing location of product is within normal operating distance from a Vidikron
Authorized Service Center. In some instances it may be necessary for the product to be returned to the Vidikron factory for repairs.
If, solely in Vidikron’s judgment, location of product to be repaired is beyond normal operating distance of the closest Vidikron
Authorized Service Center, or the repair requires the unit be returned to the Vidikron factory, it is the owner’s responsibility to
arrange for shipment of the product for repair. These arrangements must be made through the selling Vidikron Dealer. If this is not
possible, contact Vidikron directly for a Return Authorization number and shipping instructions. Vidikron will return product
transportation prepaid in the United States, unless no product defect is discovered. In that instance, shipping costs will be the
responsibility of the owner.

9. The 12V trigger only outputs DC 12V signal for triggering. Do not connect to any other power input or output. This could cause
damage to this unit.
10. Only use accessories specified by Vidikron.
11. Keep the packing material in case the equipment should ever need to be shipped.
12. Unplug this projector during lightning storms or when it will not be used for an extended period of time.
13. The lamp becomes extremely hot during operation. Allow the projector to cool down for approximately 45 minutes prior to
removing the lamp assembly for replacement. Do not operate lamps beyond the rated lamp life. Excessive operation of lamps
beyond rated life could cause them to explode in rare occasions.
14. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the projector has been damaged in any way,
objects have fallen or spilled into the projector, the projector has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally,
or has been dropped.

1Introduction
This Owner’s Manual describes how to install, set up and operate the Vidikron Vision
Model 10 and Model 12 DLP Projectors. Throughout this manual, the Vidikron Vision
10/Vision 12 DLP Projector is referred to simply as the “Vision 10/12.”

Vidikron has prepared this manual to help home theater installers and end users get the
most out of the Vision 10/12.

The Vision 10/12 is equipped with a precision optics package (with manual zoom lens) plus
generous horizontal/vertical mechanical lens shift capabilities and electronic keystone
correction for flexible placement within virtually any home theater environment. Among the
finest attributes of the Vision 10/12 is its ability to meet the rigid Imaging Science
Foundation™ (ISF) industry standards for video fidelity and accurate gray scale tracking --
vital to achieving true-to-life color reproduction and superior black and white performance.
The Vision 10/12 accepts high definition DVI (HDCP compliant) signals from today’s latest
digital sources, and provides a generous array of component, composite, S-video and VGA
inputs, as well as Discrete IR and RS-232 control allowing integration with other audio/video
components and automated control systems.

The logo can be rotated to match the projector orientation: inverted (ceiling-mounted)
or upright. To rotate the logo, grip it at the sides, pull it away from the projector and

1. COMPOSITE VIDEO INPUT
Standard composite video input for connecting a VCR, camcorder, laser disc player or
other composite video source.
2. S-VIDEO
Standard S-Video input for connecting a DVD player, satellite receiver or Super VHS
(S-VHS) VCR.
3. COMPONENT VIDEO (RCA connectors)
Standard-definition (480i/576i) or high-definition (720p/1080i), YPrPb component input.
This is the input for component video from sources such as DVD players.
For best results, do not run your DVD player in progressive mode.

4. RGB HD
A 15-pin VGA connection to a personal computer. The Vision 10/12 automatically
detects the signal resolution: 480i, 480p, 576i, 720p or 1080i.
5. DVI / Computer Input (Digital)
HDCP-compliant digital video input for connecting a DVD player, personal computer or
HD tuner with a DVI or HDMI output.
6. POWER INPUT (100 to 240 VAC)
Connect the Vision 10/12 to power here.
7. RS-232 CONTROL PORT
A female, 9-pin D-sub connector for interfacing with a PC or home theater
automation/control system.
8. 12-VOLT TRIGGER (3.5-mm mini phono jack)
For connecting to retractable screens or other devices that respond to 12-volt triggers.
Outputs +12 volts / 250 milliamps when the projector is turned on.

Lights when a button is pressed to indicate that an IR signal is being transmitted.

4. Aspect Ratio Selection Buttons:
ANA (Anamorphic)
For viewing 16:9 DVDs or HDTV programs in their native aspect ratio.
4X3 (Standard 4:3)
Scales the input signal to fit 4:3 display mode in the center of the screen.
L-BOX (Letterbox)
For viewing LaserDisc movies or non-anamorphic DVDs on a 4:3 screen.
I-WIDE (IntelliWide)
Enlarges a 4:3 image horizontally in a NON-linear fashion to fit 16:9 full screen display.
CINEMA
For viewing 2.35:1 source material on a 1.78:1 (16:9) screen. The upper and lower
portions are masked.
C-FILL (CinemaFill)
Stretches a 2.35 image vertically in both directions to fill a 16:9 screen.

Press to restore factory-default settings for the current source.
6. ISF DAY
Press to recall settings for the current input from the “ISF Day” memory preset.

Press to select a highlighted menu item or confirm a changed setting.

The signal from the remote control can be reflected by the screen.

The remote control may malfunction under a fluorescent lamp. If that occurs, move the
projector away from the fluorescent lamp.

Make sure that there is nothing obstructing the infrared beam between the remote
control and the IR receiver on the projector.
If the effective range of the remote control decreases, or it stops working, replace the
batteries with new ones.
Ambient conditions may possibly impede the operation of the remote control. If this
happens, point the remote control at the projector, and repeat the operation.

Ambient Light
In general, minimize or eliminate light sources directed at the screen. Contrast ratio in your
images will be noticeably reduced if light directly strikes the screen, such as when a shaft of
light from a window or floodlight falls on the image. Images may then appear washed out
and less vibrant.

Other Considerations
Other considerations and tips that can help improve your installation:

Keep the ambient temperature constant and below 35°C (95°F). Keep the projector away
from heating and/or air conditioning vents. Changes in temperature may cause drifts in
the projector circuitry, which may affect performance.
Keep the projector away from devices that radiate electromagnetic energy such as motors
and transformers. Common sources of these include slide projectors, speakers, power
amplifiers and elevators.

Throw distance is the distance measured from the front of the projector to the screen. This is
an important calculation in any projector installation as it determines whether or not you
have enough room to install your projector with a desired screen size and if your image will
be the right size for your screen.
Throw Distance
You can quickly estimate the throw distance by taking the width of the screen and

The Vision 10 has a lens throw ratio of between 1.40 and 1.60.
The Vision 12 has a lens throw ratio of between 1.42 and 1.65.
The result of this calculation tells you roughly how far back the projector should be
positioned from the screen in order to project a focused image large enough to fill the
screen.
For example, with an 8-foot (96-inch) wide screen:

The Vision 10 has a throw distance range of between 134.4 inches (3.41 meters) and 153.6
inches (3.90 meters).

The Vision 12 has a throw distance range of between 136.3 inches (3.46 meters) and 158.4
inches (4.02 meters).

Adjusting the Projection
If the screen is significantly higher or lower than the projector, you can also tilt the projector
at a slight angle. In a ceiling installation, you do this by adjusting the ceiling mount. For a
floor installation, turn the four adjustable feet on the bottom of the projector to adjust the
projector height and/or projection angle.

There are several methods for mounting the projector. Depending on your chosen
installation, one method may be more suitable than another.
Mounting
Floor Mounting: In typical front and rear screen installations the projector can be mounted
to a secure and level surface, such as a table or cart. Carts are useful when moving a projector
during a presentation or from site to site. If possible, lock the wheels when it’s in position to
prevent it from being moved during a presentation.
Ceiling Mounting: The projector can also be inverted and suspended from the ceiling using
a specially designed ceiling mount fixture. This type of mounting is recommended for fixed
installations and for those that want the projector out of sight or have a limited space for
projector and audience.
Use only the Vidikron-approved ceiling mount kit designed for your
projector.
Note
In rear screen applications where space behind the projector is limited, a mirror may be used
be accurately set. If you are considering this type of installation, contact your dealer for
assistance.

When connecting your equipment:

Use the correct signal cables for each source.
Ensure that the cables are securely connected. Tighten the thumbscrews on connectors
that have them.
Route all cables through the opening on the rear underside of the
projector. This allows you to keep the connector panel access door closed,
making for a more tidy installation.

To access the connector panel, press and hold the black door release button. Then, pull
gently on it to open the door.

to Source Components
Connect your video sources to the Vision 10/12 as shown and described in the sections that
follow.

DVI Connections: The Vision 10/12 has a DVI input for connecting a DVD player, DTV
decoder, personal computer or any other device with a DVI or HDMI output. Connect such

quality because the signal is carried in the digital domain throughout the
entire signal path, from source component output into the projector.

In order to connect an HDMI component, you need a DVI-to-HDMI cable or
adapter (not included).

The Vision 10/12 supports the VESA Display Data Channel (DDC) standard.
This standard provides “Plug and Play” capability; the projector and a
VESA DDC-compatible computer communicate their setting requirements,
allowing for quick and easy setup.
In order for Plug and Play to work correctly, you must turn on the projector
before you turn on the connected computer.

4Operation
1. Turn on your source components.

Turning on the Power
2. Plug the female end of the power cord into
the AC receptacle on the rear of the Vision
10/12 (AC 100V ~ 240V).
3. Connect the other end to your AC power
source. The power indicator lights blue to
indicate that the Vision 10/12 is in “standby”
mode.
4. Press the ON button on the remote control
to turn on the projector. The power indicator
turns off.
5. After a brief warm-up period (approximately
10 seconds), the Vision 10/12 will start projecting.
When the Vision 10/12 is installed upright, you can adjust the projector height or projection
is useful for correcting the angle of projection when the projector is placed on an uneven
surface or when the screen is at an angle. You can tilt the projector up to five (5) degrees up
or down by adjusting the feet.

Adjusting the Projector

The feet are connected to threaded bolts; turn them clockwise to raise the projector or
counterclockwise to lower it.

The Vision 10/12 OSD language is initially set to English, but can also display the menus in
French, Italian, German or Spanish. To change the OSD language:

Select Color from the Picture Adjust menu. While looking at the color bar pattern through a
blue filter, adjust the color saturation level until the outermost (gray and blue) color bars
appear to be a single shade of blue:
Tint: Tint or “hue” is essentially the ratio of red to green in the color portion of the image.
When tint is decreased, the image appears redder; when it is increased the image appears
greener. To set the tint, select Tint from the Picture Adjust menu. While looking at the color
bar pattern through a blue filter, adjust the tint level until the cyan and magenta color bars
(on either side of the green bar) appear to be a single shade of blue.
1. Like the brightness and contrast controls, the color and tint controls
are interactive. A change to one may require a subtle change to the
other in order to achieve the optimum setting.

Sharpness: “Sharpness” is the amount of high-frequency detail in the image. To adjust
sharpness, select Sharpness from the Picture Adjust menu and press ENTER. On your
needed, looking for white edges around the transitions from black to gray and different sized
lines in the “sweep” patterns at the top and bottom. Lower the sharpness setting to eliminate
them.

Gamma: The Gamma control determines how gray shades are displayed between minimum
input (black) and maximum input (white) for all signals. A good gamma setting helps to
optimize blacks and whites while ensuring smooth transitions for the “in-between” values
utilized in other grays.
Unlike brightness and contrast controls, Gamma allows you to lighten or darken the overall
tone of your images without changing the extremes. All images will be more vibrant while
still showing good detail in dark areas.
The default Gamma setting is appropriate for most typical home cinema environments.

Color Temperature: To adjust the color temperature, select Color Temp from the Picture
Adjust menu and press ENTER. (Color temperature defines the “color of gray.”) The range is
from 5,000K to 10,000K, in increments of 500K. The default setting, 6,500K, is appropriate for
most situations. Higher settings produce a “bluer” picture; lower ones impart a reddish hue
to the image.

For more precise control over the color temperature, you can adjust the x and y coordinates
for gray. These define its location on the standard CIE chromaticity graph, shown in Figure
4-9. (CIE stands for “Commission Internationale de l’Éclairage” (International Commission on
Illumination), the organization responsible for color measurement and management
standards.) Changing either or both of these numbers changes the hue of gray, within a

ICC Select: Choose ICC Select from the Picture Adjust menu to specify the color space
(Standard, NTSC, HDTV or PAL) that is appropriate for the source signal, to achieve optimal
color balance.
If you select NTSC, HDTV or PAL, you can make further adjustments to individual color space
section. (The Standard color space is factory-set and not adjustable.)
White Balance: To remove any trace of color from the white areas of the projected image,
choose White Balance from the Picture Adjust menu and press ENTER.

Gain: Use the Gain controls to correct color imbalances in the bright areas of the image. A
good way to do this is to use a test pattern consisting mostly of solid white areas, such as
an 80 IRE “window” pattern. If the white areas contain traces of red, green or blue,
decrease the Gain for that color.

Offset: Use the Offset controls in the White Balance sub-menu to correct color imbalances
in the dark areas of the image. A good way to do this is to use a test pattern consisting
mostly of dark gray areas, such as a 30 IRE “window” pattern. If the gray areas contain
traces of red, green or blue, decrease the Offset for that color.
Save Settings: The Vision 10/12 lets you save image quality settings for each input and
supported resolution to a preset. You can recall this preset at a later time by simply pressing a
button on the remote control or using the Restore Picture Settings menu command (see
below).
You should save changes to any of the following settings to a preset; otherwise they will be
lost when a new input source or resolution is selected:

Auto Tune: Auto Tune automatically adjusts settings to optimize computer images. Auto
Tune can be executed either on command or automatically whenever an incoming RGB
signal is present. To execute Auto Tune on command, select Execute Auto Tune and press
ENTER. To enable automatic Auto Tune, select Auto Tune and set it to ON.
Auto Tune may take some time to complete, depending on the
characteristics of the incoming signal.

Image Position: To adjust the horizontal and vertical position of the projected image, select
Image Position from the Image Option menu and press ENTER.

H Position: Use the up- or down-arrow buttons (

) to select H Position. Then, use the
right-arrow button ( ) to shift the image to the right; use the left-arrow button ( ) to
shift the image to the left.

Over Scan Adjust: Overscan pushes the outside edge of the active picture area of the video
signal out beyond the edge of the display area.
Some television programs are produced based on the assumption that older television sets
may not display the outer edges of the broadcast picture area. Over scan effectively trims
away these inactive, outer edges and enlarges the remaining portion of the image to fill the
display area.
Select from 0% to 10% of Overscan, as desired.
For HDTV, DVDs and other video sources, Overscan is generally not necessary or desirable.
SDTV Adjust: To maximize the quality of 480i (composite, S-Video or component) video
signals, select SDTV Adjust from the Image Option menu and press ENTER.

Chroma Enhance: Use Chroma Enhance to add chroma (color information) to the input
signal, making colors appear more vibrant and saturated.
Video On Film: Set Video On Film to ON to repair distortions or abnormalities in a video
image.
Film Mode: Use the Film Mode control to smooth out moving images from interlaced
sources. In most cases, the Vision 10/12 detects the proper “pull-down” rate and vertical
frequency. However, if your source is jittery and/or tearing you may wish to force a setting
to ensure stable processing for that source.
Brightness Enhance: to amplify the bright areas of the image, select Brightness Enhance
and use the right- or left-arrow button ( or ) to set it to ON. Brightness Enhance can be
useful for high ambient light environments or when you use the lower Lamp Power setting
(see below).
Lamp Power: Select Lamp Power from the Display Color Menu to adjust the lamp output
level. You can choose to run the lamp as bright as possible (250W; this is the default setting)
or you can choose the lower setting (200W). Generally, lower lamp output can prolong the
life of the lamp, but decreases brightness.

Splash Screen Timer: Press the right- or left-arrow buttons to set the Splash Screen Timer.
This timer controls how long the startup (ISF and Vidikron logo) image stays on-screen after
you turn on the projector. Select from 15 to 60 seconds, in 5-second increments.
Noise Reduction: To apply Digital Noise Reduction (DNR) to the input signal, select Noise
Reduction from the ISF Calibration menu. Noise reduction is useful for clearing up noisy RGB
images such as those from a PC. Adjust as desired using the left- or right-arrow buttons,
keeping in mind that reducing noise (which reduces high frequencies) may also “soften” the
image.

5Maintenance and Troubleshooting

Unplug the power cord before cleaning the
projector.
5.1
Cleaning the Projector
Avoid using benzene or thinner, as these can
damage the finish on the projector exterior.
Do not use volatile agents, such as insecticides,
on the projector.
Do not leave rubber or plastic objects in contact
with the projector for long periods as they may
damage the finish of the projector.
•

Wipe off dirt gently with a soft flannel cloth.
For hard-to-remove dirt, soak a cloth in a
neutral detergent diluted with water, wring the
cloth well and then wipe the projector.
•
Strong cleaning detergents may discolor, warp
or damage the coating on the projector. Make
sure to test on a small, inconspicuous area on
the projector before using.
•
•
Use a commercially available blower or lens
cleaning paper (for glasses and camera lenses)
for cleaning the lens. Do not use any liquid
cleaning agents, as they may wear the coating
film on the surface of the lens.
5.2
Cleaning the Lens
The surface of the lens is easily damaged. Do
not scrape or hit the lens.

Cleaning the Intake and

You should periodically clean the vents by
vacuuming them with a vacuum cleaner.
Vidikron recommends doing this after every
100 hours of use, or more often if the
projector is used in a dirty or smoky location.

1. Press OFF on the remote control to turn
off the power. Wait until the cooling fan
stops.

The projector lamp has a life of 2,000 hours. Maintain proper ventilation to keep the lamp
operating throughout its lifetime. Do not subject the projector to unnecessary vibration.
5.4
Lamp Maintenance
•
Lamp replacement is recommended after approximately 2,000 cumulative hours of use or
when you notice a significant deterioration in the picture and color quality. To find out
Image Options menu.
•
The actual lamp service life may be less than 2,000 hours depending on the environment
in which the projector is used.
•
For lamp replacement, please contact your nearest Vidikron authorized service
center or Vidikron dealer. Do not attempt to replace the lamp yourself!
5.5
This projector uses a pressurized mercury lamp. A loud sound may indicate
lamp failure. Lamp failure is caused by excessive shock, improper cooling,

surface scratches or deterioration of the lamp due to usage. The period of
time up to failure largely varies depending on the individual lamp and the
condition and the frequency of use. It is important to note that failure can
often result in the bulb cracking.
When the lamp replacement indicator and on-screen display icon are
illuminated or are flashing, replace the lamp with a new one immediately,
even if the lamp appears to be operating normally.
If the lamp breaks, glass particles may spread inside the lamp cage or gas
contained in the lamp may be vented into the room from the exhaust vent.
As the gas in this lamp contains mercury, ventilate the room well if the
lamp breaks and avoid all exposure to the released gas. In case of exposure
to the gas, consult a doctor as soon as possible.
If the lamp breaks, there is also a possibility that glass particles may spread
inside the projector. If this happens, contact your nearest Authorized
Dealer to remove the damaged lamp and ensure safe operation.
Do not remove the lamp unit immediately after turning off the projector.
Touching a hot lamp can cause burns or injury. Wait at least one hour after
the disconnecting the power cord to allow the surface of the lamp unit to
fully cool before removing.

1. Turn off the projector and wait for the cooling fan to stop.

Lamp Replacement
2. Unplug the power cord. Allow the projector to cool down for approximately one hour
prior to removing the lamp assembly for replacement.
3. Loosen the two captive
lamp cover screws and
remove the cover.
4. Loosen the four lamp
assembly mounting screws.
5. Grasp the lamp assembly
handle and pull gently,
removing the lamp module
from the projector housing.
As you do so, the lamp
cooling interlock switch on
the inside of the lamp cavity
(near the top) moves to the
OFF position.
6. Gently slide the new lamp assembly into the lamp cavity. Align the two power
connectors at the top of the lamp assembly with the two sockets at the top of the lamp
cavity. Press gently on both sides of the lamp assembly to snap it into place. As you do
so, the lamp cooling interlock switch returns to the ON position.
7. Tighten the lamp assembly mounting screws.
8. Replace the lamp cover and secure the captive lamp cover screws.
9. Plug in the projector and turn it on.

6Serial Communications
To interface the Vision 10/12 with a home theater automation/control system or a PC
running terminal emulation software, connect it to your control system or PC as shown in
6.1
RS-232 Connection and
Port Configuration
Configure the RS-232 controller or PC serial port as follows: no parity, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit
and no flow control. Set the baud rate to 9600, to match that of the Vision 10/12 RS-232 port.
Table 6-1 lists the RS-232 command set. All commands are in ASCII format and must be in
UPPERCASE.
6.2
Serial Command Syntax
When you send a valid command, the Vision 10/12 executes it and acknowledges it with the
first three characters of the command followed by “OK;” for example, RRAOK. When you send
an invalid command, the Vision 10/12 ignores it and returns the first three characters of the
command followed by “NG;” for example, RRXNG.

These measurements are taken from the projector in a controlled,
home theater environment. All measurements are made to
ANSI/NAPM IT7.228-1997 specifications using the Photo Research
PR-650 SpectraColorimeter and Minolta LS-100 Luminance Meter,
Video Essentials test DVD and a 1.3 gain, 72-inch wide screen. The
projector is calibrated to a color temperature of 6,500K and has a
minimum of 150 hours of usage.
The foot-Lambert (fL) is the unit of measurement used in commercial
movie theaters to express image brightness at the screen surface.
The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE)
specifies 16 fL as the target image brightness for film-based
projectors using an open gate (without film in the projector). More
importantly, today SMPTE specifies 12 fL as the target image
brightness in Digital Cinema theaters. The foot-Lambert
measurement is dependent on screen size, screen gain and projector
light output.

The Vision 10/12 can display video signals from a variety of computer sources via its RGB-HD
and DVI inputs. It is compatible with the three most common sync modes -- sync-on-green,
composite sync and RGB with separate sync -- as well as XGA display adapters that use
advanced intelligent compression.
