Your product’s hard drive is a complex electronic storage system and
should be handled with care, as you might treat a sensitive portable
computer or other state-of-the-art consumer electronics product. Do not
subject it to shock, high temperatures, or strong magnetic fields.
Connecting Portable
Installing your Portable Hard Drive is extremely simple – just use the
included mini-USB cable to connect your Portable Hard Drive to any free
USB port on your computer. On Windows computers, a new icon will
appear in My Computer representing your Portable Hard Drive. On Mac OS
systems, your Portable Hard Drive will appear on the desktop as a new disk.
If your computer is running Windows 98 Second Edition, you will need
some additional software that you can download from the Verbatim web
site. Refer to the Technical Support section.
If you are using a USB 1.1 port on your Windows computer, the following
cautionary note may appear on your display: Hi-Speed USB Device
plugged into non-Hi-Speed USB hub. This does not indicate a problem
because the drive is compatible with both USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 ports.
Simply close the message and proceed. However, in this case the drive will
operate only at USB 1.1 speeds.
If you connect your Portable Hard Drive and it doesn’t appear to power up,
you may need to check the power settings. See the next section for
more details.

Powering the Portable
The power source for your Portable Hard Drive is selected with the switch
on the back of the unit. When the switch is in the USB position (towards the
USB connector), the Portable Hard Drive will attempt to draw power from
USB. When the switch is in the EXT position (towards the external power
connector), the Portable Hard Drive will draw power from an external power
source. Some computer systems may not provide enough power through
USB to operate the hard drive – in this case you must use an external power
source. (If there is insufficient power for the Portable Hard Drive to mount
properly, the hard drive will typically make a “click” sound and its LED will
blink once per second.) An optional AC Power adaptor is available from
Verbatim. Verbatim-Europe.com for more information.
Storing and Transferring Data
Once your Portable Hard Drive is connected to a computer, it can be
accessed and used like any other removable disk. You can drag files to
your portable hard drive’s icon to copy them, navigate to your hard drive
in Open or Save dialog boxes, or delete files stored on your portable hard
drive. For information on copying, opening, or deleting files, consult your
computer’s documentation.

Disconnecting Portable
Your portable hard drive is hot-pluggable; it can be connected and
disconnected without restarting your computer. To disconnect your
portable hard drive at any time, simply perform the following steps.
You can also disconnect your hard drive at any time while your computer
is powered off.
For Windows Users:

If you have files located on your drive open in any applications,
close them.

Click the Unplug or Eject Hardware button in the System Tray.

Select your drive from the menu that appears.
After a moment, Windows will display a message that your hardware
can be safely removed.
For Mac OS Users:

If you have files located on your drive open in any applications,
close them.

Locate the icon for your drive on the desktop, and drag it to the trash.

Le disque dur de votre unité est un système d’archivage électronique
complexe qui doit être manipulé avec le même soin qu’un ordinateur
portable sensible ou un autre produit électronique grand public de pointe.
Ne le soumettez pas à des chocs et ne l’exposez pas à des températures
élevées ou des champs magnétiques puissants.
Connexion du disque
dur portable
L’installation du disque dur portable est d’une extrême simplicité - vous
n’avez qu’à connecter le disque dur portable dans un des ports USB libres
de votre ordinateur à l’aide du mini câble USB fourni. Sous Windows, une
nouvelle icône représentant le disque dur portable s’affichera sur le bureau
dans Poste de travail. Sur le bureau de Mac OS, le disque dur portable
apparaît sous la forme d’un nouveau disque.
Si votre ordinateur exécute Windows 98 Seconde Edition, vous aurez
besoin de logiciels supplémentaires que vous pouvez télécharger à partir
du site Web. Consultez la rubrique Assistance
Si vous utilisez un port USB 1.1 sur votre ordinateur sous Windows, il est
possible que l’avertissement suivant s’affiche : Un périphérique USB à haut
débit connecté à un concentrateur USB à débit réduit. Cela ne signifie pas
qu’il y a un problème car le disque dur est compatible avec les deux ports
USB 1.1 et USB 2.0. Fermez simplement le message et continuez. Cependant,
dans ce cas-là, le disque dur ne fonctionnera qu’aux débits USB 1.1.
Si le disque dur portable semble ne pas fonctionner après que vous l’avez

Source d’alimentation
électrique
Un commutateur situé au dos de l’unité permet de choisir la source
d’alimentation pour votre disque dur portable. Lorsque le commutateur
est à la position USB (vers le connecteur USB), le disque dur s’alimente si
possible, par l’intermédiaire du port USB. Lorsque le commutateur est à
la position EXT (vers le connecteur d’alimentation externe), le disque dur
portable s’alimente à partir d’une source externe. Certains systèmes n’ont
pas la puissance nécessaire sur le port USB pour faire fonctionner le disque
dur portable – le cas échéant, vous devrez utiliser une source d’alimentation
externe. (Si l’alimentation est insuffisante pour lancer le disque dur
portable, ce dernier émettra généralement un un “clic” et son écran à DEL
clignotera une fois par seconde.) Il vous faudra peut-être faire l’achat de
l’adapteur A/C en option (modèle ACFLB).
Stockage et transfert
Une fois que votre disque dur Verbatim est connecté à un ordinateur, vous
pouvez y accéder et l’utiliser comme tout autre disque amovible. Vous
pouvez faire glisser des fichiers sur l’icône de votre disque dur Verbatim
pour les copier, passer aux zones de dialogue Ouvrir ou Enregistrer de
votre disque dur ou encore supprimer des fichiers stockés sur votre disque
dur portable Verbatim. Pour de plus amples informations sur la copie,

votre ordinateur.

Déconnexion du disque
dur portable
Votre disque Verbatim est opérationnel à chaud et peut donc être connecté
ou déconnecté sans que vous ayez à redémarrer votre ordinateur. Pour
déconnecter votre disque dur portable Verbatim n’importe quand, suivez
simplement les étapes suivantes. Vous pouvez également débrancher votre
disque dur à tout moment lorsque votre ordinateur est hors tension.
Pour les utilisateurs Windows:

Fermez tous les fichiers stockés sur votre disque dur qui sont ouverts
dans une application.

Cliquez sur le bouton Débrancher ou éjecter le matériel de la barre
des tâches.

Sélectionnez votre disque dur à partir du menu apparaissant à l’écran.
Après quelques instants, Windows affiche un message confirmant que
vous pouvez débrancher l’unité sans risque.

werden. Setzen Sie die Festplatte weder einem elektrischen Schlag noch
hohen Temperaturen oder starken magnetischen Feldern aus.
Tragbare Festplatte anschließen
Die Installation Ihrer Tragbaren Festplatte ist ein Kinderspiel – verwenden
Sie einfach das mitgelieferte Mini-USB-Kabel, um Ihre Tragbare Festplatte
an einen freien USB-Port am Computer anzuschließen. Auf Windows-
Systemen erscheint ein neues Symbol für die Tragbare Festplatte unter

Hochgeschwindigkeits-USB-Gerät an Nicht-Hochgeschwindigkeits-USB-
Hub angeschlossen. Das bedeutet nicht, dass ein Problem besteht, da das

Stromzufuhr für die
Tragbare Festplatte
Die Stromquelle für die Tragbare Festplatte wird mit dem Schalter an der
Rückseite des Geräts ausgewählt. Wenn der Schalter auf der USB-Position
(Richtung USB-Anschluss) steht, erfolgt die Stromzufuhr zur Tragbaren
Festplatte per USB. Wenn der Schalter auf der EXT-Position (Richtung
externem Netzanschluss) steht, wird die Tragbare Festplatte über eine
externe Stromquelle mit Strom versorgt. Einige Computersysteme liefern
nicht genügend Strom über USB, um die Festplatte zu verwenden – in
diesem Fall müssen Sie eine externe Stromquelle benutzen. (Wenn die
Stromzufuhr nicht ausreicht, um die Tragbare Festplatte ordnungsgemäß zu
mounten, ertönt in der Regel ein akustisches Signal (ein “Klicken”) und die
LED der Festplatte blinkt einmal je Sekunde. Optional können Sie einen

Sie können Dateien in das Symbol für die Tragbare Festplatte ziehen, um sie
zu kopieren, mit den Dialogfeldern Öffnen oder Speichern zur Festplatte
navigieren oder dort gespeicherte Dateien löschen. Informationen zum

Trennen der Tragbaren
Festplatte
Die Tragbare Festplatte kann bei laufendem Computer aus- und
eingestöpselt werden. Sie brauchen den Computer nicht auszuschalten
und neu zu starten. Um die Tragbare Festplatte vom Computer zu trennen,
führen Sie einfach folgende Schritte aus. Sie können die Festplatte auch
jederzeit vom Computer entfernen, wenn dieser ausgeschaltet ist.
Windows-Benutzer:

Schließen Sie alle Dateien, die auf dem Laufwerk gespeichert und in
Anwendungen geöffnet sind.

Klicken Sie in der Taskleiste auf Hardwarekomponente entfernen
oder auswerfen.

Wählen Sie das Laufwerk aus dem daraufhin angezeigten Menü aus.
Wenige Sekunden später erscheint die Windows-Meldung, dass die
Hardware entfernt werden kann.
Mac OS-Benutzer:

Anwendungen geöffnet sind.

Il disco rigido interno è un sistema di memorizzazione elettronico
complesso, pertanto va maneggiato con la stessa cura che si adotta per
qualsiasi delicato computer portatile o prodotto elettronico di ultima
generazione. Non sottoporlo a urti, elevate temperature o forti campi
magnetici.
Connessione del Disco
Rigido Portatile
La procedura di installazione è molto semplice – è sufficiente utilizzare
il cavo mini-USB incluso per collegare il disco a una delle porte USB
disponibili sul PC. In Risorse del computer dei PC Windows, verrà
visualizzata l’icona del disco rigido, mentre sulla scrivania dei Mac, verrà
visualizzato un nuovo disco.
Se il sistema operativo del computer è Windows 98 Second Edition,
sarà necessario del software supplementare, scaricabile dal sito web di
Verbatim. Vedere la sezione Supporto Tecnico
Se utilizzate una porta USB 1.1 su un computer Windows, lo schermo
potrebbe mostrare il seguente avvertimento: Hi-Speed USB Device
plugged into non-Hi-Speed USB hub (Unità USB ad alta velocità connessa
a hub non ad alta velocità). Questo non indica nessun problema, visto che
l’unità è compatibile sia con porte USB 1.1 e USB 2.0. Basta chiudere il
messaggio su schermo e procedere. Tuttavia, in questo caso il disco rigido
portatile opererà esclusivamente alla velocità della USB 1.1.

Alimentazione del Disco
Rigido Portatile
Il tipo di alimentazione viene selezionata utilizzando l’interruttore sul
retro dell’unità. Quando l’interruttore si trova sulla posizione USB (verso
il connettore USB), l’unità tenterà di alimentarsi da USB. Se invece e sulla
posizione EXT (verso il connettore di alimentazione esterno), il dsico tenterà
di alimentarsi da una sorgente di alimentazione esterna. In alcuni sistemi
l’energia erogata mediante USB non risulta sufficiente per alimentare il
disco – in questi casi è necessario ricorrere a una sorgente di alimentazione
esterna. (Se l’alimentazione dovesse risultare insufficiente per montare
l’unità correttamente, il disco rigido portatile emetterà un “clic” e il LED
lampeggerà una volta al secondo). Potrebbe essere necessario acquistare
l’alimentatore esternodattatore CA opzionale (modello ACFLB). Per ulteriori

Dopo aver collegato il disco rigido Verbatim a un computer, è possibile
accedervi e utilizzarlo come qualsiasi altro disco rimovibile. È possibile
copiare i file sull’icona del disco rigido portatile trascinandoli ed esplorare
il disco nelle finestre di dialogo Open o Save oppure eliminare i file

Scollegamento dell’unità
Il disco rigido Verbatim è collegabile a caldo e pertanto può essere
collegato e scollegato senza riavviare il computer. Per scollegare il disco
rigido Verbatim in qualsiasi momento, attenersi alla seguente procedura.
È anche possibile scollegarla in qualsiasi momento dopo aver spento il

Su unidad de disco duro es un sistema de almacenamiento electrónico
complejo que debe manejarse con cuidado, como trataría un ordenador
portátil sensible u otro producto electrónico de consumo de último
modelo. No debe someterse a golpes, temperaturas elevadas o campos
magnéticos fuertes.
Conexión del Disco
Duro Portátil
La instalación del Disco Duro Portátil es muy sencilla – simplemente use
el cable mini-USB que se incluye para conectar el Disco Duro Portátil
a cualquier puerto USB libre del ordenador. En los ordenadores con
Windows, aparece un nuevo icono en Mi PC que representa el Disco Duro
Portátil. En los sistemas con Mac OS, el Disco Duro Portátil aparece en el
escritorio como un nuevo disco.
Si su ordenador funciona con Windows 98 Second Edition, necesitará
un software adicional que puede descargar del sitio Web de Verbatim.

Si utiliza un puerto USB 1.1 en su ordenador Windows, es posible que

Alimentación del Disco
La fuente de energía del Disco Duro Portátil se selecciona con el
conmutador de la parte posterior de la unidad. Cuando el conmutador está

extraer la energía del USB. Cuando el conmutador está en la posición EXT

Una vez que su Disco Duro Portátil esté conectado a un ordenador, puede
tener acceso al mismo y utilizarlo como cualquier otro disco extraíble.
Podrá arrastrar archivos al icono de su Disco Duro Portátil para copiarlos, ir
a su disco duro en los cuadros de diálogo Abrir o Guardar, o eliminar los

Cómo desconectar el Disco
Su disco duro portátil es “Hot-pluggable”, esto quiere decir que se puede
conectar y desconectar sin reiniciar el ordenador. Para desconectar su
Disco Duro Portátil en cualquier momento, simplemente lleve a cabo los
siguientes pasos. Asimismo puede desconectar su disco duro en cualquier
momento mientras el ordenador está apagado.
Para usuarios del sistema Windows:

Inleiding
De externe harde schijf is een complex elektronisch opslagsysteem en
moet even voorzichtig worden behandeld als een draagbare computer of
ander geavanceerd elektronisch product. Stel het apparaat niet bloot aan
schokken, hoge temperaturen of krachtige magnetische velden.
De externe harde schijf
aansluiten
Het installeren van de externe harde schijf is heel eenvoudig. U hoeft alleen
maar de mini-USB-kabel te gebruiken om de externe harde schijf aan te
sluiten op een vrije USB-poort van de computer. Op computers waarop
Windows is geïnstalleerd, verschijnt het pictogram voor de nieuwe harde
schijf in Deze computer. Op Mac OS-systemen verschijnt de externe harde
schijf op het bureaublad in de vorm van een nieuwe schijf.
Als uw computer werkt met Windows 98 Second Edition, hebt u enige
extra software nodig. U kunt deze software op de website van Verbatim
downloaden. Zie de paragraaf Technische ondersteuning
Als u een USB 1.1-poort op een Windows-computer gebruikt, wordt soms
de volgende waarschuwing weergegeven: Snel USB-apparaat aangesloten
op een langzame USB-hub. Dit wijst niet op een probleem, omdat de
externe harde schijf USB 1.1- en USB 2.0-poorten ondersteunt. Sluit het
bericht en ga verder. De harde schijf werkt in dit geval echter met de
snelheid van USB 1.1.
Indien u de externe harde schijf heeft aangesloten, maar deze niet lijkt
te werken, moet u de stroominstellingen controleren. Zie het volgende
gedeelte voor meer informatie.

Stroomtoevoer van de externe
harde schijf
U kunt de stroombron van de externe harde schijf selecteren met de
schakelaar die zich aan de achterkant van het apparaat bevindt. Wanneer
de schakelaar is ingesteld op USB (in de richting van de USB-connector),
wordt de stroom van de externe harde schijf via de USB-poort geleverd.
Wanneer de schakelaar is ingesteld op EXT (in de richting van de AAN/
UIT-schakelaar), wordt de stroom van de externe harde schijf via een
externe stroombron geleverd. Het kan zijn dat de stroomtoevoer via USB
op een aantal computersystemen niet voldoende is om de externe harde
schijf te laten draaien. In dit geval moet u gebruik maken van een externe
stroombron. (Als de stroomtoevoer ontoereikend is, zal de harde schijf
gewoonlijk een klikgeluid laten horen en gaat de LED eenmaal per seconde
knipperen.) Er is een optionele Verbatim netvoedingsadapter verkrijgbaar.
Opslag en overdracht
van gegevens
Als de externe harde schijf eenmaal op de computer is aangesloten,
kan deze net als iedere andere verwijderbare schijf worden benaderd
en gebruikt. U kunt bestanden naar het pictogram van de externe harde
schijf slepen om ze te kopiëren, naar de harde schijf navigeren via de
dialoogvensters Openen en Opslaan of bestanden die op de externe harde
schijf zijn opgeslagen verwijderen. Zie de handleiding van uw computer
voor informatie over het kopiëren, openen en verwijderen van bestanden.

De externe harde schijf
ontkoppelen
De externe harde schijf is hot-pluggable. Dat betekent dat deze schijf
aangesloten en ontkoppeld kan worden zonder dat de computer opnieuw
hoeft te worden opgestart. Om de externe harde schijf op een willekeurig
moment te kunnen ontkoppelen, hoeft u alleen de volgende stappen uit
te voeren. U kunt de harde schijf ook loskoppelen wanneer uw computer
uit staat.
Voor Windows:

Als u bestanden op de externe harde schijf in een toepassing hebt
geopend, sluit u deze bestanden.

Klik in het systeemvak op de knop Hardware loskoppelen of uitwerpen

Selecteer de externe harde schijf in het weergegeven menu.
Windows geeft vervolgens een bericht weer dat u de hardware veilig
kunt verwijderen.
Voor Mac OS:

Als u bestanden op de externe harde schijf in een toepassing hebt
geopend, sluit u deze bestanden.
