INTRODUCTION TO CID SERVICE
Congratulations on your purchase of this Caller ID unit. This device allows you to take advantage of the
Caller Identification Delivery with Call Waiting service.
•
This unit can be used to screen unwanted calls, elim inate harassm ent from annoying calls, or to get
prepared before answering a call.
•
When used with Caller ID service, after the first ring, this unit displays the nam e (if available) and
telephone num ber of the person calling, along with the date and tim e of the call before you pick up
your telephone or following the call waiting tone if you are already on the phone.
•
This unit retains a record of the above inform ation for the last 99 calls received, including those
received while you were away.

INSTALLATION
IMPORTANT INSTALLATION INFORMATION
INSTALLING THE BATTERIES
Your Caller ID uses 3 AAA-size alkaline batteries
for receiving and storing Caller ID records.
•
Never install telephone wiring during a
lightning storm .
•
Never touch uninsulated telephone wires or
term inals, unless the telephone line has been
disconnected at the network interface.
IMPORTANT: You have approximately 60
seconds to replace the batteries before the call
records are lost. Please read the instructions
before replacing the batteries and have them
ready to be inserted beforehand. You may want to
write down any stored information you do not
want erased.
•
Use caution when installing or m odifying
telephone lines.
MODULAR JACK REQUIREMENTS
You need an RJ 11 type m odular jack,
which is the m ost com m on type of
phone jack and m ight look like the
one pictured here. If you don’t have a
m odular jack, call your local phone
com pany to find out how to get one
installed.

1. If the telephone line cord or a phone is
connected to the unit, disconnect them from
the unit.
NOTE: If the low battery icon
appears in
the display, you need to replace the batteries. It is
important that you replace the batteries as soon as
possible in order to maintain Caller ID operation.
2. Use a screwdriver or other flat tool to open the
battery com partm ent door.
IMPORTANT: If you’re not going to use the unit
for more than 30 days, remove the batteries
because they can leak and damage the unit.
3. Insert 3 AAA-size alkaline batteries (not
included) as shown on the diagram in the
battery com partm ent.
4. Replace the battery com partm ent door
securely.
5. If the line cord was previously connected,
reattach it to the unit.

USING THE AC POWER SUPPLY
CONNECTING A TELEPHONE
You m ust use the AC power
supply (included) to operate your
Caller ID unit. The unit is designed
to retain stored records after you
disconnect the adapter or during a
power failure.
1. To install this unit, disconnect your telephone
by rem oving the plug at the end of its line cord
from the existing telephone wall jack.
2. Plug the line cord from your telephone into the
jack m arked PHONE on this unit.
3. Plug one end of the line cord supplied with
your Caller ID unit into the jack m arked LINE
on this unit.
CAUTION: Only use the Thomson
5-2491(black)/ 5-2484 (white) power
supply that came with this unit. Using
other power supplies may damage the
unit.

4. Plug the rem aining end of the line cord
connected to this unit’s LINE jack into the
telephone wall jack.
6. If this unit is connected with an answering
m achine, please refer to the following drawing
and set your answering m achine to answer the
phone for at least 2 rings. This will assure that
this unit will receive the CID inform ation
correctly.
5. Plug the supplied AC power supply into the
existing wall outlet and the adapter tip to the
jack at the rear side of unit.

You have 10 seconds following any key press
before the phone will autom atically return to

NOTE: Proceed immediately to change any of the
following factory preset settings as required.

SETTING THE CID LANGUAGE
SETTING THE LCD CONTRAST
This adjustm ent changes the Caller ID prom pts to
be displayed in English, French, or Spanish.
This adjustm ent allows optim ization of the
contrast and viewing angle of the display.
1. To enter the Options m enu, press the OPTIONS
button. OPTIONS MENU < > appears.

SETTING THE LOCAL AREA CODE
The Caller ID unit uses the program m ed area
code to determ ine the num ber form at to display
when a valid Caller ID signal is received and is
also used for the Dial Back feature.
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all the digits for your
area code are correct.
7. Press OPTIONS again to store the local area
code and return to the LOCAL AREA CODE
display.
1. To enter the Options m enu, press the OPTIONS
button. OPTIONS MENU < > appears.
2. Press the left or right arrow button until LOCAL
AREA CODE appears.
NOTE: If you make a mistake while setting the
local area code, you can delete the displayed area
code by pressing the DELETE button.
3. Press the OPTIONS button to show the current
local area code. The default is ---. The
left-m ost digit or space flashes, indicating it is
ready to accept the area code entry.
4. Press the left arrow button to choose 9-0 for
the first digit.

OPERATION

The red NEW CALL indicator com es on,
confirm ing new calls have been received.
RECEIVING CALLS
This unit has a built-in real tim e clock that will
keep the current tim e and date accurately. The
clock is autom atically set and updated each tim e
Caller ID inform ation is received.
After 20 seconds without activity, the display
will change to the "CALLS" sum m ary screen. It
will rem ain until another call is received or any
button is pressed. You can see the total
num ber of calls stored and how m any new
calls have not been reviewed.
IMPORTANT: Allow at least two rings to occur
prior to answering calls. This will assure that the
unit will receive the Caller ID information
correctly.

TIP: If you choose not to use any of the Call
Waiting options, you may simply ignore the call
waiting beeps and continue your conversation.
The person calling will hear a continuous ring, as
if you are not home, or may be transferred to a
voice mail account if available.
CALL WAITING DISPLAY
With Call Waiting Caller ID service, a tone also
alerts you there is a new call com ing while you
are on an existing call. You will experience a
short period of silence as the Caller ID inform a-
tion is processed.
IMPORTANT: To use the Call Waiting feature of
this unit, the phone you are using must be
connected directly to the unit.
•
When a call waiting signal is received, CALL
WAITING flashes in the display. The nam e and
telephone num ber of the person who is calling
also appears in the display for 20 seconds.
•

Press CALL WAITING to put the existing call on
hold and answer the new call.
If you choose not to answer the call, the Call
Waiting Caller ID inform ation is stored for
future reference.
•
When you finish the call, press CALL WAITING
to return to the original call.

REVIEWING CALL RECORDS
DELETING CALLS
•
When the red NEW CALL indicator is on, you
have received new incom ing calls. Next to the
NEW sym bol is the total num ber of calls. Press
the left or right arrow button to review the
stored calls.
TO DELETE AN INDIVIDUAL CALL
When reviewing calls, you can delete an
individual call by pressing the DELETE button
once. The contents of the display will be erased
and the rest of the Caller ID records will be
renum bered.
•
If the red NEW CALL indicator is still on when
the display goes back to "CALLS" sum m ary
screen, there are new calls that you have not
yet reviewed.

1. When reviewing calls, you can delete all calls
by pressing and holding the DELETE button for
m ore than 3 seconds. DELETE ALL? will appear
in the display.

CALL
The incom ing call does not have Caller ID service or their service area is not
linked to yours. If UNKNOWN CALL appears along with a calling num ber, the
nam e inform ation for that num ber was not available.
BLOCKED CALL
ERROR
The caller is registered as “Private Number” and the Caller ID information is withheld.
Caller inform ation has been interrupted during transm ission.
No Caller ID signal has been detected, or Caller ID service has not been activated.
Indicates you are at the beginning or the end of the call record log.
Battery power is low.

AFTER THE PHONE RINGS
ERROR MESSAGE IS DISPLAYED

ERROR appears in the display if the unit detects
anything other than valid Caller ID inform ation
during the silent period after the first ring. This
m essage indicates either the presence of noise
on the line, or that an invalid m essage has been
sent from the telephone com pany.

Felicitaciones en su com pra de este aparato de Identificador de Llam adas (Caller ID). Este dispositivo le
perm ite aprovechar el servicio de Entrega de Identificación de Llam adas junto con el servicio de
Llam ada en Espera.

Este aparato se puede usar para filtrar llam adas no bienvenidas, elim inar las llam adas m olestas, o
para prepararse antes de recibir una llam ada.

INFORMACIÓN IMPORTANTE PARA LA

PARA INSTALAR LAS BATERÍAS
Su Identificador de Llam adas usa 3 baterías
alcalinas tam año AAA para recibir y alm acenar los
archivos del Identificador de Llam adas (Caller ID).
•
Nunca instale el cableado del teléfono durante
una torm enta de relám pagos.
•
Nunca toque alam bres telefónicos o term inales
que no estén aislados, a m enos que la línea
telefónica haya sido desconectada en la
interfaz de la red.
IMPORTANTE: Usted tiene aproximadamente 60
segundos para reemplazar las baterías antes de que
los archivos de llamadas se pierdan. Por favor lea las
instrucciones antes de reemplazar las baterías y
tenga éstas listas de antemano para ser colocadas.

1. Si la línea del cable telefónico o el teléfono
está conectado al aparato, desconéctelos del
aparato.
NOTA: Si el símbolo de baja batería

El indicador rojo de llam ada nueva (“NEW
CALL”) se ilum inará para confirm ar que
nuevas llam adas han sido recibidas.
PARA RECIBIR LLAMADAS
Este aparato tiene integrado un reloj con la hora
real, que m antendrá la hora y la fecha actuales
con precisión. El reloj es autom áticam ente
program ado y se pone al corriente cada vez que
se recibe inform ación del Identificador de
Llam adas (Caller ID).
Después de 20 segundos sin actividad, el visor
cam biará a la pantalla sum ario “CALLS”. Así
perm anecerá hasta que se reciba otra llam ada
o cualquier botón sea oprim ido. Usted puede
ver el total de llam adas alm acenadas y cuántas
llam adas nuevas no han sido revisadas.
IMPORTANTE: Deje sonar el teléfono por lo
menos dos veces antes de contestar la llamada. Esto
asegurará que el aparato reciba la información del
Identificador de Llamadas correctamente.

SUGERENCIA: Si usted escoge utilizar cualquiera
de las opciones de la Llamada en Espera, usted
puede simplemente ignorar los tonos de llamada en
Espera y continuar su conversación. La persona que
llama escuchará tonos continuos, como si usted no
estuviera en casa, o puede ser transferida a un
buzón de voz si éste es disponible.
VISOR DE LLAMADA EN ESPERA
Con el servicio de Identificador de Llam ada en
Espera, un tono tam bién le avisa que hay una
llam ada entrante m ientras usted está en una
llam ada. Usted experim entará un periodo corto
de silencio m ientras se procesa la inform ación
del Identificador de Llam adas.
IMPORTANTE: Para usar la función de Llamada
en Espera en este aparato, el teléfono que usted
está usando debe estar conectado directamente al
aparato.

Cuando una señal de Llam ada en Espera es
recibida, la indicación “CALL WAITING”

suscribe a este servicio, elindicador “NEW CALL/
VOICE MAIL” se ilum inará parpadeando para

parpadeo cesa después de que el m ensaje ha

INDICADORES DE MENSAJES
Los siguientes m ensajes especiales indican el estado actual de un m ensaje o del aparato:
NINGUNA LLAMADA
DESCONOCIDO
El registro de llam adas está vacío.
La llam ada entrante no tiene servicio de Identificador
de Llam adas o su área de servicio no está conectada con la suya. Si la
indicación DESCONOCIDO aparece junto con el núm ero que llam a, la
inform ación del nom bre para ese núm ero no estaba disponible.
LLAMADA PRIVADA
La persona que llam a está registrada com o “Núm ero Privado” y la
inform ación del Identificador de Llam adas se retiene.
ERROR
La inform ación de la persona que llam a ha sido interrum pida durante la
transm isión.
NINGUN MENSAJ E
No se ha detectado la señal del Identificador de Llam adas, o el
Identificador de Llam adas no ha sido activado.
COMIENZO/ FINAL
Indica que usted está al principio o al final del registro de llam adas.
Advertencia de baja batería.

DETECCIÓN DE AVERÍAS
NO APARECE NINGUNA INFORMACIÓN EN EL
VISOR CUANDO ENTRA LA LLAMADA
SE MUESTRA UN ERROR EN EL MENSAJE

La palabra “ERROR” aparece en la pantalla si
el aparato detecta algo que no sea la
inform ación válida del Identificador de
Llam adas durante el período de silencio
después del prim er tim bre. Este m ensaje
indica la presencia de ruido en la línea, o que
un m ensaje inválido ha sido enviado por la
com pañía telefónica local.

Asegúrese que espera al segundo tim bre antes
de contestar.
•
Cheque todo el cableado para asegurarse de
que todas las conecciones están firm em ente
aseguradas y no dañadas.
