Your 900 MHz Cordless Telephone is designed to give you flexibility in use
and high quality perform ance. To get the m ost from your new cordless
telephone, we suggest that you take a few m inutes right now to read
through this instruction m anual.
IMPORTANT: Because cordless phones operate on electricity, you should
have at least one phone in your home that isn’t cordless, in case the power in
your home goes out.

MODULAR JACK REQUIREMENTS
You need an RJ 11 type m odular jack, which is the m ost com -
m on type of phone jack and m ight look like the one pictured
here. If you don’t have a m odular jack, call your local phone
com pany to find out how to get one installed.
INSTALLATION NOTE: Some cordless telephones operate at frequencies
that may cause interference to nearby TVs and VCRs. To minimize or prevent
such interference, the base of the cordless telephone should not be placed
near or on top of a TV or VCR. If such interference continues, move the
cordless telephone farther away from the TV or VCR.
DIGITAL SECURITY SYSTEM
Your cordless phone uses a digital security system to provide protection
against false ringing, unauthorized access, and charges to your phone line.
When you place the handset in the base, the unit verifies its security code.
After a power outage or battery replacem ent, you should place the
handset in the base for about 20 seconds to reset the code.

INSTALLING THE BATTERY
Battery compartment door
In the event of a power outage, a
9-volt battery (not included) enables
the phone to retain num bers stored in
m em ory and the clock to keep accu-
rate tim e. To install the battery:
1. Rem ove the battery com partm ent
door on the bottom of the unit by
rem oving the screw with a Phillips
screwdriver. Slide the door to the
right and lift it up.
2. Connect a fresh 9-volt alkaline
battery (not included). The large
and sm all contacts on the battery
clip and the battery will interlock.
Once connected, place the battery
inside the battery com partm ent.

3. Replace the battery com partm ent
door, then replace and tighten the
screw.
IMPORTANT: If a battery is not
installed during a power outage, the
phone will lose all the radio station
presets and alarm times.

1. Set the RINGER switch on the handset to ON.
2. Place the handset in the base.
3. Raise the base antenna.
4. Set the TONE/PULSE switch to TONE for touch-tone service, or PULSE
for rotary service. If you don't know which type of service you have,
check with the phone com pany.
5. Plug the power supply cord into the base and then into an AC outlet.
The CHARGE/IN USE light com es on indicating that the battery is
charging.

6. After charging, connect the telephone cord to the phone and then to the
wall jack.
CAUTION: Use only the Thomson 5-2476 (black)/ 5-2475 (white) power supply
that came with this unit. Using other power supplies may damage the unit.

Once a wake alarm has been set,
you can turn it off or on by pressing
and releasing the appropriate
WAKE button.
To check the wake tim e, turn on the
desired wake alarm and press and
hold the WAKE 1 or WAKE 2 button.

a stored num ber as you do to store
a num ber—you’re just replacing the
phone num ber with a different one.

CHAIN DIALING FROM MEMORY
Use this feature to m ake calls which require a sequence of num bers such
as using a calling card for a frequently called long distance num ber.
Basically, you dial each part of the sequence from m em ory. The following
exam ple shows how you can use chain dialing to m ake a call through a
long distance service:

INSERTING A PAUSE IN THE
DIALING SEQUENCE
Press the REDIAL button to insert a
delay in the dialing sequence of a
stored telephone num ber when a
pause is needed to wait for a dial
tone (for exam ple after you dial 9
for an outside line, or to wait for a
com puter access tone). Each pause
counts as 1 digit in the dialing
sequence.

CONNECTING THE BELT CLIP
There are two slots, one on each side
of the handset.

Attach the belt clip (provided with
26981 only) by inserting the sides of
the belt clip into the slots. Snap the
ends of the belt clip into place.

CHANGING THE BATTERY
Make sure the telephone is OFF before you replace battery.
1. Rem ove the battery com partm ent door.
2. Disconnect the cord attached to the battery pack and
rem ove the battery pack from the handset.
3. Insert the new battery pack and connect the cord into
the jack inside the handset.
4. Put the battery com partm ent door back on.
5. Place handset in the base to charge. If you don’t charge
the handset battery properly (for 12 hours) when you first set up
the phone and/or when you install a new battery pack, the
battery’s long-term performance will be compromised.

TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS
TELEPHONE
Problem

No dial tone
• Check installation:
— Is the base power cord connected to a working
outlet?
— Is the IN USE light on?
— Is the telephone line cord connected to the base
unit and the wall jack?
• Disconnect the base from the wall jack and connect
another phone to the sam e jack. If there is no dial tone
in the second phone, the problem m ight be your
wiring or local service.
• Is the handset out of range of the base?
• Make sure the battery is properly charged (12 hours).
• Is the battery pack installed correctly?
• Did the handset beep when you pressed the TALK
button? Did the CHARGE/ IN USE indicator com e on?
The battery m ay need to be charged.
Dial tone is OK, but
can't dial out
• Make sure the TONE/PULSE setting is program m ed
correctly.
Handset does not ring
• Make sure the RINGER switch on the handset is turned
to ON.
• You m ay have too m any extension phones on your
line. Try unplugging som e phones.

To keep your telephone working and looking good, follow these guidelines:

Se requiere un jack m odular RJ 11, que es el tipo de jack m ás

inform ación sobre la instalación del jack requerido.
NOTA PARA LA INSTALACIÓN: Algunos teléfono inalámbricos operan a
frecuencias que pudieran causar interferencia con aparatos de televisión o de
video-cassette. Para minimizar o evitar esta interferencia, la base de su teléfono

Deje que el teléfono se cargue durante 12 horas antes de usarlo por
prim era vez. Si usted no carga el teléfono adecuadam ente (durante 12

2. Desconecte el cordón del paquete de batería y saque
el paquete de batería del auricular.
3. Inserte el nuevo paquete de batería y conecte el
cordón al enchufe dentro del auricular.
4. Vuelva a colocar la puerta del com partim ento de la
batería.
5. Coloque el auricular en la base para cargarlo. Si no
carga la batería del auricular correctam ente (durante
12 horas) cuando instale el teléfono por prim era vez
y/ o cuando instale un nuevo paquete de baterías, pondrá en peligro el
rendim iento a largo plazo de la batería.

— ¿Está el cable de la base conectado a un contacto
que sirve?
— ¿Está la luz indicadora “IN USE” ilum inada?
— ¿Está el cable telefónico conectado a la base del
aparato y a un contacto de pared?
• Desconecte la base del contacto de pared y conecte
otro teléfono al m ism o contacto. Si no hay tono de
m arcar en el segundo teléfono, el problem a puede
estar en el cableado o en el servicio local.
• ¿Está el auricular fuera del rango de la base?
• Asegúrese de que la batería ha sido cargada
adecuadam ente (12 horas).
• ¿Está el paquete de la batería instalado
adecuadam ente?
• ¿El auricular em itió un tono cuando usted oprim ió el
botón “TALK”? ¿Se ilum inó el indicador de “CHARGE/
IN USE.” La batería puede necesitar cargarse.
