Region Management Information: This unit is designed and manufactured to respond to the Region  
Management Information that is encoded on DVDs. If the region number printed on the DVD does not  
correspond to the region number of this unit, this unit cannot play that disc.  
The region number of this unit is 1.  
Disc Function or Operation that is Not Available  
When the  
symbol appears on the TV screen, it indicates that the function or operation attempted is not  
available at that time. This occurs because the DVD manufacturer determines the specific functions. Certain  
functions may not be available on some discs. Be sure to read the documentation provided with the disc.

Note:  
When playing back a CD-G (Graphics) or CD EXTRA disc, the audio portion will be played, but the graphic  
images will not be shown.  
Titles, Chapters and Tracks  
DVDs are divided into “titles” and “chapters”. If  
the disc has more than one movie on it, each movie  
would be a separate “title”. “Chapters” are sections  
of titles.  
Audio CDs are divided into “tracks”. A “track” is  
usually one song on an Audio CD.  
Note:  
Numbers identify each title, chapter, and track on a disc. Most discs have these numbers recorded on  
them, but some do not.  
Notes on Unauthorized Discs  
You may not be able to play back some DVDs on this unit if they were purchased from outside your  
geographic area or made for business purposes.

Remove the plastic sheet before operating the

performance of the infrared REMOTE SENSOR  
may be degraded, causing unreliable operation.

Battery Replacement  
When the battery becomes weak, the operating distance of the remote control will be greatly reduced and  
you will need to replace the battery.  
Note:  
If the remote control is not going to be used for a long time, remove the battery to avoid damage caused  
by battery leakage corrosion.  
When discarding batteries, environmental problems must be considered and local rules or laws governing  
the disposal of these batteries must be strictly followed.  
WARNING:  
• Do not dispose of battery in fire; battery may explode or leak.  
• Batteries should not be exposed to excessive heat such as sunshine, fire or the like.  
CAUTION:  
Danger of explosion if battery is incorrectly replaced. Replace only with the same or equivalent type.

B. Using the AC Power Adapter  
The included AC power adapter operates on AC between 100V and 240V.  
The supplied AC adapter is suitable for use on AC mains supplies of 100-240 Volts AC and should only be  
connected to a mains supply within these parameters.

• Turn off the unit before unplugging the AC power adapter to avoid damage to the unit.  
• When the unit is not going to be used for a long time, disconnect the AC power adapter from

• The AC power adapter included with this unit is for its use only. Do not use it with other

IMPORTANT  
Be sure to use the unit close to the wall outlet and make it is easily accessible. If a malfunction occurs,  
disconnect the plug from the wall outlet at once.  
When the AC power adapter is plugged in, the apparatus is not completely disconnected from the main  
power source, even when the unit is turned off.

C. Using the Built-in Battery  
The unit has a built-in, non-replaceable, rechargeable battery. Charge the built-in battery before using it for  
the first time. The normal charging time should be completed within 3-4 hours. The red charging light will  
go out when the built-in battery becomes fully charged.  
To Recharge the Built-in Battery  
WARNING  
The built-in battery should not be exposed to excessive heat such as sunshine, fire or the like.  
The built-in battery presents a risk of fire or chemical burn if mistreated. Do not disassemble, place near a  
source 212°F (100°C), or incinerate.  
Dispose the unit with built-in battery properly. Environmental problems must be considered and local  
rules or laws governing the disposal must be strictly followed.  
CAUTION  
The built-in battery can only be recharged when the unit is in CHARGE mode while using the AC  
adapter.  
The built-in battery cannot be recharged when the unit is in power ON mode.  
Do not recharge the battery in the vehicle by using the car power adapter.  
When the built-in battery power is low, "BATTERY LOW" will appear on the screen and the unit will stop  
playing.  
Recharge the built-in battery when you are ready to use it again.  
While using the built-in battery, the environmental temperature should be 41°F (5°C) to 95°F (35°C).  
To get the longest service life of the built-in battery, charge at indoor temperature.

You can watch the same DVD on the DVD player and the monitor.

1. Connect your TV to the DVD player using a standard AV Cable (not included).  
2. Turn on the DVD player and slide the AV IN / DVD switch to the DVD position.  
3. Turn on the TV and follow the instructions included with it to play the DVD.  
Notes:  
Make sure to use the correct Audio/Video cable. Connecting the plugs incorrectly may cause a weak  
signal.  
If your TV does not have Audio/Video inputs, you will need to purchase an RF modulator (sold separately)  
and follow the instructions included with it to connect the unit to your TV.

C. Connecting a Stereo Receiver or Amplifier (for the DVD Player Only)  
The DVD player can play two channels Dolby Digital.

1. Connect the DVD player to the left/right

Notes:  
Make sure to use the correct Audio cable. Connecting the plugs incorrectly may cause a weak signal.  
If you have a stereo VCR, make sure you set it to stereo mode.  
Due to copyright protection, DVD movies cannot be copied. If you copy a DVD movie onto a videotape, the  
resulting copy will be unclear, with poor sound quality. This is NOT caused by a defective DVD system.  
D. Connecting to Video Equipment (for the DVD Player Only)  
You can connect other video equipment for playback through the unit.

Turn down the volume before connecting the  
headphones/earphones. Slowly raise the volume  
with the headphones on until you reach your  
desired volume. When headphones are connected,  
the speaker is automatically disabled.

Dolby Digital  
Dolby Digital is a technology developed by Dolby Laboratories. Soundtracks encoded in Dolby Digital can  
reproduce from one to 5.1 discrete channels of excellent quality audio.  
The unit automatically recognizes the Dolby Digital bitstream and provides a downmix suitable for two-  
channel listening. An additional Dolby Digital decoder is required for reproduction of the discrete multi-  
channel soundtracks available on many DVDs.

Unit Operation  
Turning on the Unit  
1. Slide the CHARGE / STANDBY / ON switch on the DVD player to the ON, slide the ON / OFF switch on the  
monitor to the ON.  
2. The start-up picture will appear on the screen of the DVD player.  
3. After use, slide the CHARGE / STANDBY / ON switch on the DVD player to STANDBY (power off), slide the  
ON / OFF switch on the monitor to the OFF.

Playing a Disc  
This owner’s manual explains the basic instructions  
for operating this unit. Some DVDs are produced  
accompanying the specific DVD in question for  
more information about the options available on  
that DVD.

Playing a Disc  
1. SlidetheCHARGE/STANDBY/ONswitchtotheONposition. SeeCUSTOMIZING  
THE FUNCTION SETTINGS before proceeding to step 2.  
2. Pull up front panel and press DVD door to open the disc door.  
3. Hold the disc by its sides and gently push it onto the spindle, with label side  
facing up, until you hear a “click”.  
4. Gently push the disc door closed. It takes a short while for your unit to load  
the disc. After loading, for most DVDs, the unit will automatically take you  
to the main menu or start playing. If the unit does not automatically start  
playing the DVD, press the  
PLAY button.  
Pausing Playback (Still Mode)  
Press the  
PAUSE button. To resume normal playback, press the  
PLAY  
button.  
Each time you press the PAUSE button, the picture advances one frame.  
Stopping Playback

Audio Selection  
On some DVDs, the sound is recorded in two or more formats. Follow the directions below to select the  
preferred language and sound system.  
1. While a disc is playing, press the AUDIO button to show the current audio format number.  
2. Press the AUDIO button repeatedly to select the desired audio format.  
Note:  
If only one audio format is recorded on the DVD, the number does not change.  
Some DVDs allow you to change audio selections using the disc menu only. If this is the case, press the  
MENU button and choose the appropriate language on the disc menu.  
You can select different audio channels (Stereo, Left or Right) on an Audio CD by pressing the AUDIO  
button repeatedly.  
Subtitle Selection  
1. While a DVD is playing, press the SUBTITLE button to display the current language setting,  
as shown in the example.  
2. Press the SUBTITLE button repeatedly to select the desired subtitle language. You can turn subtitles off by  
pressing the SUBTITLE button repeatedly until the “

Some DVDs are set to display subtitles automatically, and you cannot turn them off even if you set the

During some scenes, the subtitles may not appear immediately after you select your desired scene.

This function can only be used for discs on which subtitles have been recorded in multiple languages.  
Some DVDs allow you to change subtitles using the disc menu only. If this is the case, press the MENU  
button and choose the appropriate subtitle on the disc menu.  
Angle Selection  
Some DVDs contain scenes which have been shot from a number of different angles. For these discs, the same  
scene can be viewed from each of these different angles.  
1. While you are playing

DVD with different angles  
recorded, press the ANGLE button to view the number of  
current angles available.  
2. Press the ANGLE button repeatedly to change the scene to  
the next recorded angle.  
After approximately two seconds, playback will continue  
from the new angle you selected.  
If no button is pressed within 10 seconds, playback  
continues without changing the current angle.  
Note:  
This function can only be used for discs on which scenes shot from multiple angles have been recorded.  
If only one angle is recorded, “ ” is displayed.  
Display Function  
While the disc is playing, press the DISPLAY button repeatedly to display  
information on operation status.  
Elapsed Time:  
Elapsed time from the beginning of the title which is  
currently playing.

You can move to a specific location by entering its corresponding time (hours, minutes, seconds).

you want.  
3. Press the ENTER button to confirm. Playback starts from the selected section.  
Note:  
If the time numbers you entered is not permitted by the DVD, after you press the ENTER button, it will

Some scenes may not be located as precisely as you specified.  
This method for accessing specific locations is available only within the current title of the DVD.

You can combine your favorite titles/chapters and play them in the order you determine.

Viewing JPG Files  
This unit can play JPG files recorded on a CD-R or CD-ROM disc (CD-RW is not recommendable).  
Viewing JPG Files  
1. Open the disc door.  
2. Hold a JPG file disc by its edge and gently push it onto the spindle  
with the label side facing up until you hear a “click”.  
3. Close the disc door. A list of folders/files will appear on the  
screen.

selected.  
Program view: To view tracks/files in the "Program view" list. It is disabled when the "Program view" list  
is empty.  
Add to program: Add files/tracks to the "Program view" list. It is disabled if the "Edit mode" is not  
selected.  
Browser view: To view files/tracks in the original view list.  
Clear program: Delete the files/tracks in the "Program view" list.  
Select a file/track or more you want to delete in complete stop mode (press the

Maintenance  
Cleaning the Disc  
A defective or soiled disc inserted into the unit can cause sound to drop out during playback.  
Handle the disc by holding its inner and outer edges.  
Do NOT touch the surface of the unlabeled side of the disc.  
Do NOT stick paper or tape on the surface.  
Do NOT expose the disc to direct sunlight or excessive heat.  
Clean the disc before playback. Wipe the disc from the center outward with a cleaning  
cloth.  
NEVER use solvents such as benzine or alcohol to clean the disc.  
Do NOT use irregular shaped discs (example: heart shaped, octagonal, etc.). They may cause  
malfunctions.  
Cleaning the Unit  
Be sure to turn the unit off and disconnect the power source before maintaining the unit.  
Wipe the unit with a dry soft cloth. If the surfaces are extremely dirty, wipe clean with a cloth that has  
been dipped in a weak soap-and-water solution and wrung out thoroughly. Then wipe with a dry cloth.  
Never use alcohol, benzine, thinner, cleaning fluid or other chemicals. Do NOT use compressed air to  
remove dust.  
Important Note  
Before transporting the unit, remove any disc from the disc compartment.

Troubleshooting Guide  
SYMPTOM  
CAUSE (AND REMEDY)  
No power.  
Ensure the car power adapter or AC power adapter is connected.  
Make sure that the unit is turned on.  
The remote control  
does not function.  
Remove any obstacles between the remote and the unit.  
Use the remote near the unit.  
Point the remote at the remote sensor on the unit.  
Replace the battery in the remote with new one.  
Make sure plastic sheet has been removed from battery section.  
Very little or no sound  
is coming from a DVD.  
The volume control is located on the side of the unit - please try adjusting  
this.  
Make sure that you select ON mode.  
Make sure the unit is not paused. Press the

A non-NTSC disc has been inserted, or the disc region number does not match  
the region number of the unit.  
Condensation may have formed inside the unit due to a sudden change in  
temperature. Wait about an hour for it to clear and try again.

original consumer purchaser and is limited to non-commercial use of the product.  
One Year Parts & Labor Warranty  
AVC products purchased in the United States or Canada are warranted to be free from defects in materials  
or workmanship for a period of one year from the date of their original retail purchase. If the unit fails to  
conform to this warranty, we will service the product using new or refurbished parts and products, at AVC’s  
sole discretion.  
During a period of one year from the effective warranty date, AVC will provide, when needed, service labor  
to repair a manufacturing defect at its designated Service Center. To obtain warranty service in the United  
States or Canada, you must first call our Customer Support Center at 1-800-506-5746 or 1-800-433-7316,  
during the hours listed in the box below. The determination of service will be made by AVC Customer Support.  
PLEASE DO NOT RETURN YOUR UNIT TO AVC WITHOUT PRIOR AUTHORIZATION. New or remanufactured  
replacements for defective parts or products will be used for repairs by AVC at its designated Service Center  
for one year from the effective warranty date. Such replacement parts or products are warranted for an  
additional one year from the date of repair or replacement. The Customer will be required to ship the unit  
to the Service Center indicated at the time Customer Support is contacted to make the necessary repairs. The  
customer is responsible for all transportation charges to the service facility.  
Packaging and Shipping Instruction  
When you send the product to the AVC service facility you must use the original carton box and packing  
material or an equivalent as designated by AVC.
