Getting Started
Thank you for purchasing the music hall a70.2. The a70.2 is a classic two-
channel integrated amplifier designed for the music lover. We chose a select
group of technologically advanced components to create this powerful 125
watt/channel integrated amplifier. When used in a top-end audio system, your
music hall integrated amplifier will provide years of enjoyment.
A Few Precautions
Please read this manual carefully. In addition to installation and operating
instructions, it provides valuable information that will help you get optimum
performance from your system. Please contact your authorized music hall dealer
for answers to your questions. In addition, all of us at music hall welcome your
questions and comments. Save the shipping carton and all enclosed packing
material for future use. Shipping or moving the unit in anything other than the
original packing material may result in severe damage that is not covered by the
warranty. Be sure to keep the original sales receipt. It is your best record of the
date of purchase, which you will need in the event warranty service is required.
Placement
Use common sense when placing the a70.2. Always place it on a firm, level
surface. Make sure that the shelf or cabinet can support the weight. Ensure that
there is adequate ventilation around all sides of the unit. Avoid placing the a70.2
where it may be subject to excessive heat, such as near a heat register. Do not
place anything on top of it. For best performance, avoid placing the a70.2 where
it may be subject to vibration, such as near a speaker.
Connecting Source Components to the a70.2
The a70.2 has 4 standard analog inputs, one balanced analog input, one moving
magnet phono input, and a home theater bypass (AV Direct In).
Connect your source components to the appropriate inputs on back of the a70.2.
Pay careful attention to match the right (red) and left (black) outputs from your
source components to the right (red) and left (black) inputs on the a70.2.
Connect to the ipod input on the front using a 3.5mm stereo mini-plug.
When connecting a turntable to the phono input, connect the RCA’s as described
above. Connect the turntable’s ground wire to the ground screw (GND). The
phono input is for use with moving-magnet and some high output moving-coil
cartridges.
If unsure whether your cartridge will work, consult the literature accompanying
the cartridge or your dealer.

Bypass
This input bypasses the pre-amp section of the a70.2. It is a home-theater
bypass also known as an AV direct amplifier input. It is only for use with an
external component that has a volume control (i.e. home theater processor).
Select BYPASS using the input selector to activate. Use with Caution: The
component connected to this input will be directly connected to the amplifier.
Pre Out
This output is always active and can be used to connect the a70.2 to a
subwoofer or an additional power amplifier. Simply connect this output to the
input on your subwoofer or amplifier.
Speaker Outputs
To avoid damage to the a70.2, make sure it is NOT plugged into an AC outlet
while connecting up or disconnecting speaker wire to the speaker outputs. The
a70.2 has two sets of speaker outputs labeled A and B. Connect the right
speaker to the right speaker output A and the left speaker to the left speaker
output A. Match the positive (red) and negative (black) terminals on your
speakers to the positive (red) and negative (black) terminals on back of the
a70.2. If you plan to use an additional set of loudspeakers, connect them to the
speaker B outputs. You can choose to play speakers A, B, or A+B.
Connecting to the Mains - Plugging In
Check that the Power button on front of the a70.2 is in the off position. Push
the plug (IEC line socket) of the power cable supplied with the a70.2 into the
socket (AC IN) on back of the unit. Make sure it is pressed in firmly. Plug the
other end of the power cable into an AC wall outlet.
