The clock flashes on the control panel to indicate that it has not been set.

5) Open the reservoir lid and fill the reservoir with
cold water to the desired cup level on the water
window (up to 8 cups).
Brewing Coffee
Cleaning the Coffeemaker Before First Use
Follow the steps under “Adding Water and Ground Coffee” and “Brewing Coffee Now,”
(Pages 8-9) but do not add ground coffee.
6) Place the empty thermal carafe on the base.
To achieve the best performance, rinse
the thermal carafe with warm water.
This will improve the heat retaining
capabilities of the thermal carafe.
Selecting and Measuring Ground Coffee
For best results, use coffee ground for use with automatic drip coffeemakers.
The amounts shown below are suggested amounts.
While brewing, the Brew-Thru lid must
be on the thermal carafe and the arrow
on the lid must be aligned with the spout.
Otherwise, the carafe may overflow.

Make sure the thermal carafe is squarely
centered on the base or the water and
grounds will overflow from the brew
basket. An overflow may cause personal
injury or damage to property.

• one cup = five ounces brewed coffee
Adding Water and Ground Coffee
Brewing Coffee Now
For Models ECT84 and ECT85:
Press the BREW NOW switch
1) Swing open the brew basket so that it
is extended out from the coffeemaker.
2) Place a MR. COFFEE® brand 8-12 cup #4 Cone
Style paper filter or a MR. COFFEE® permanent
filter in the removable filter basket.
The ON indicator will illuminate, indicating that the coffeemaker
is on and the brew cycle will begin. When the coffee stops
flowing, the brew cycle is complete.
The coffeemaker will turn off automatically. The indicator light
will go out to let you know the brew cycle is complete.
3) Add the desired amount of ground coffee
to the filter. Gently shake the filter basket
to level the ground coffee.
4) Be certain that the filter is centered in the
filter basket and that the basket is properly
snapped into place. Close the brew basket.
Do not brew coffee while
the brew basket is open.

3) While still pressing and holding the PRESS/HOLD
button, press and hold the MIN. button until
the clock displays the desired minute setting.
To pour coffee, make sure the arrow on the Brew-
Thru lid is aligned with the spout. Do not turn the
arrow on the lid beyond the spout when pouring to
prevent the lid from falling off.
Once pouring is complete, be sure the Brew-Thru lid
is closed to seal in heat and flavor.
4) Release the PRESS/HOLD button.
5) Press the DELAY BREW button.
While the coffee is brewing, the Pause ‘n
Serve feature allows you to sneak a cup
of coffee from the thermal carafe.
Replace the thermal carafe on the base
within 30 seconds to prevent overflow
and possible injury.
The Delay Brew indicator will light. The delay
timer is set and the coffeemaker will begin
brewing the coffee at the time you selected.
The thermal carafe is designed to keep
coffee hot and fresh up to 4 hours.
If you want your coffee to brew at the
same time the following day, simply add
the desired amount of ground coffee,
fill the water reservoir and press the
DELAY BREW button.
For Models ECTX81, ECTX84 and ECTX85:
Press the BREW NOW button.
The ON•OFF indicator will light, indicating that
the coffeemaker is on and the brew cycle will
begin. When the coffee stops flowing, the brew
cycle is complete, and you will hear 5 beep tones.
Cleaning the Coffeemaker
Between Brew Cycles
To turn off the coffeemaker, press the BREW NOW
button again.
To clean up the used coffee grounds and filter:
Brewed coffee and grounds are both
very hot. Handle them with care to avoid
scalding injuries.
1) Discard the grounds and paper filter and rinse
the filter basket. You may also wash the filter
basket in the dishwasher (top rack dishwasher
safe only).
If the brew basket overflows or fails to
empty into the thermal carafe, do not open
the brew basket. Unplug the coffeemaker
and wait for the contents to cool before
handling.
2) Use warm water to clean inside of thermal
carafe and air dry. The thermal carafe is NOT
dishwasher safe, except for the carafe lid.
Brewing Coffee Later
(Using the Delay Timer, Models ECTX81, ECTX84
and ECTX85 only)
Brewed coffee and grounds are both
very hot. Handle them with care to
avoid scalding injuries.
You must set the time for when you would like
the coffeemaker to begin brewing your coffee.
Unplug the coffeemaker’s power cord
if you are not using the coffeemaker
or clock.
1) Press and hold the PRESS/HOLD button.
2) While still pressing and holding the PRESS/HOLD
button, press and hold the HOUR button until the
clock displays the hour you desire. The PM indicator
will light to indicate a PM time; if the PM indicator
is not lit, the time is AM.

Maintaining Your Coffeemaker
To Clean Mineral Deposits from Your MR. COFFEE® Coffeemaker
Your coffeemaker may be cleaned by using MR. COFFEE® Cleaner or vinegar.
MR. COFFEE® Cleaner is available at many retail stores or by calling the
MR. COFFEE® Consumer Service Department at 1-800-MR COFFEE (1-800-672-6333).
1. Follow package instructions to prepare one batch of MR. COFFEE® Coffeemaker
Cleaner. Pour the mixture into the water reservoir.

Note: 32 fluid ounces of undiluted, white household vinegar may be used
as a substitute for the cleaner.
2. Place an empty MR. COFFEE® #4 cone style paper filter or MR. COFFEE® permanent
filter into the filter basket and close.
3. Place the empty carafe back on the unit, centered under the brew basket.
4. Brew 3 cups of cleaning solution through coffeemaker.
Cleaning the Thermal Carafe
Hard water can leave a whitish stain on the inside
of the carafe, and coffee and tea may then turn
this stain brown.
5. Turn off coffeemaker and let stand for 30 minutes.
6. Run remainder of cleaning solution through coffeemaker.
7. Discard the cleaning solution and rinse the carafe thoroughly with clean water.
8. Fill the water reservoir with clean, fresh water.
To remove carafe stains:
9. Place the empty carafe back on the unit, centered under the brew basket.
1. Fill the carafe with a solution of equal parts
water and vinegar and let the solution stand in
the carafe for approximately 20 minutes.
10. Remove and discard the filter used during the clean cycle and replace it with a fresh
MR. COFFEE® #4 cone style paper filter. If a MR. COFFEE® permanent filter was used
during cleaning, remove and rinse it thoroughly before replacing it in the filter basket.
11. Begin brewing and allow the full brew cycle to complete.
12. Repeat Steps 8 – 11 one more time.
2. Discard the solution and wash and rinse
the carafe.
Your coffeemaker is now clean and ready to brew the next pot of delicious, hot coffee!
Do not use harsh abrasive cleansers
to clean the carafe.
Special Cleaning Cycle
(Models ECTX81, ECTX84 & ECTX85)
Follow steps 1-3 in “Maintaining Your Coffeemaker.” Press the Clean Cycle button and the
Clean Cycle indicator light will illuminate. For your convenience, everything is automatic.
The entire cycle will take 45-60 minutes to complete. During the Cleaning Cycle your
coffeemaker will:
1. Slow brew approximately 3 cups of cleaning solution.
2. Pause for 30 minutes (the Clean Cycle indicator light will remain on to alert you
that the process is active).
3. After 30 minutes, your coffeemaker will brew the remainder of the
cleaning solution.
4. When complete, the Clean light will turn off and your coffeemaker will automatically
shut off and beep. Follow Steps 7-12 in “Maintaining Your Coffeemaker” to complete
the cleaning process.

For better tasting coffee, we recommend that you use a MR. COFFEE® brand 8-12 cup
#4 Cone Style paper filter or a MR. COFFEE® brand permanent filter. These filters are
available at most grocery stores.

Thermal Carafe
COFFEE IS NOT BREWING
You can usually purchase a replacement thermal carafe from the store where you
purchased your coffeemaker. If you are unable to find a replacement, please call
1-800 MR COFFEE (1-800-672-6333) in the U.S. and 1-800-667-8623 in Canada for
information on where you can find a store that carries replacement thermal carafes.
• Power outage

If your coffeemaker requires service, do not return it to the store where you purchased it.
All repairs must be made by Sunbeam or by an authorized MR. COFFEE® Service Center.

Instrucciones Especiales del Cordón Eléctrico
1) El aparato tiene un cordón eléctrico corto como medida de seguridad para
prevenir el riesgo de tropezar, tirar o enredarse con un cordón más largo.
2) Puede usar cables de extensión si se observan las precauciones adecuadas.
3) Si se usan los cables de extensión la capacidad nominal eléctrica del cable de
extensión debe ser de por lo menos 10 amperios y 120 voltios. Coloque el
cordón de extensión de manera que no cuelgue sobre el borde del mostrador
o mesa donde pueda tirarlo un niño o pueda tropezar con él accidentalmente.
Este aparato cuenta con una clavija polarizada (una pata es más ancha
que la otra). Para reducir el riesgo de descarga eléctrica, esta clavija
entra sólo de una manera en un enchufe polarizado. Si la clavija no

Preparación de Café
El reloj parpadea en el tablero de control para indicar que no ha sido ajustado.
Limpieza de la Cafetera Antes de Usarla por Primera Vez
Siga los pasos de abajo “Agregando Agua y Café Molido” y “Preparación Inmediata de Café”
(las Páginas 23 – 24), pero no le agregue el café molido.
Usted deberá ajustar el reloj si quiere usar la característica
del temporizador.
Seleccionando y Midiendo el Café Molido
Para mejores resultados, use granos de café para cafeteras de goteo automático.
Las cantidades que se muestran a continuación son cantidades sugeridas.
Para ajustar el reloj:

(HORAS) hasta que el reloj indique

Agregando Agua y Café Molido
1) Gire y abra la canasta de preparación
de modo que quede extendida afuera
de la cafetera.
2) Coloque un filtro marca MR. COFFEE® de papel
de estilo cono #4 de 8 a 12 tazas o un filtro
permanente MR. COFFEE® en la canasta
de filtro removible.
3) Agregue la cantidad deseada de café molido
en el filtro. Sacuda ligeramente la canasta
del filtro para nivelar el café molido.
4) Asegúrese de que el filtro quede centrado
en la canasta del filtro y que la canasta
quede encajada apropiadamente en su lugar.
Cierre la canasta del filtro.
No prepare café mientras que la
canasta de preparación esté abierta.

5) Abra la tapa del depósito y llene el depósito
con agua fría al nivel de tazas deseado indicado
en la ventana de agua (hasta 8 tazas).
Para servir el café, asegúrese de que la flecha de la tapa
Brew–Thru (con agujero de paso) esté alienada con el
pico. Con el fin de evitar que la tapa se caiga al servir,
no gire la flecha de la tapa más allá del pico.
Una vez que haya servido, asegúrese de que la tapa
Brew–Thru (con agujero de paso) esté cerrada para
conservar el calor y el sabor.
6) Coloque la jarra térmica vacía sobre la base.
Para obtener el mejor rendimiento,
enjuague la jarra térmica con agua tibia.
Esto mejorará la capacidad retentiva
de calor de la jarra térmica. Mientras
está preparando el café, la tapa Brew-Thru
(con agujero de paso) deberá estar puesta
en la jarra térmica y la flecha de la tapa
deberá estar alineada con el pico.
De lo contrario, la jarra se podrá
desbordar.
Mientras que el café se está preparando, la
característica de Pause ‘n Serve (Pausa y Sirva)
permite que usted se sirva una taza de café
de la jarra térmica.
Coloque la jarra térmica en la base dentro de
los 30 segundos para evitar el desbordamiento
y posibles heridas.
La jarra térmica fue diseñada para mantener
el café caliente y fresco hasta 4 horas.
Par los Modelos ECTX81, ECTX84 y ECTX85:
Oprima el botón de BREW NOW
Asegúrese de que la jarra térmica quede centrada
correctamente sobre la base o el agua y el café
molido se desbordarán de la canasta de preparación.
Un desbordamiento podrá causar heridas corporales
o daños a la propiedad.

El indicador de ON•OFF (PRENDIDA•APAGADA)
se iluminará indicando que la cafetera está prendida
y que el ciclo de preparación comenzará. Cuando el café
deje de fluir, el ciclo de preparación está terminado
y usted oirá 5 biips.
Apague la cafetera, oprima nuevamente el botón
de BREW NOW (PREPARACIÓN INMEDIATA).
El café líquido y molido se encuentran
ambos muy calientes. Manipúlelos con
mucho cuidado para evitar quemaduras.
Si la canasta de preparación se desborda
o falla en desocuparse en la jarra térmica,
no abra la canasta de preparación.
Preparación Inmediata de Café
Para los Modelos ECT84 y ECT85:
Oprima el Interruptor de PREPARACIÓN INMEDIATA
El indicador de ON (Prendida) se iluminará indicando
que la cafetera está prendida y que el ciclo de preparación
comenzará. Cuando el café pare de fluir, el ciclo de
preparación está terminado.
Desenchufe la cafetera y espere hasta que
el contenido se enfríe antes de manipularlo.
Preparación de Café Más Tarde
(Uso del temporizador de retardo, Modelos ECTX81,
ECTX84 y ECTX85 únicamente)
La cafetera se apagará automáticamente. La luz del indicador
se apagará indicándole que el ciclo de preparación está
terminado.
Usted deberá ajusta la hora en que usted quiere que su
cafetera comience a preparar su café.
1) Oprima y sostenga el botón de PRESS/HOLD
(OPRIMIR/SOSTENER).
2) Mientras que está oprimiendo y sosteniendo el botón
de PRESS/HOLD (OPRIMIR/SOSTENER), oprima y sostenga
el botón de HOUR (HORA) hasta que el reloj muestre
la hora deseada. El indicador de PM se prenderá para
indicar PM (pasado el meridiano); si el indicador de PM
no está encendido, la hora es AM (antes del meridiano).

3) Mientras que está oprimiendo y sosteniendo el

Mantenimiento de la Cafetera
®
Para Limpiar los Depósitos Minerales de Su Cafetera MR. COFFEE :
Su Cafetera puede ser limpiada usando Limpiador MR. COFFEE® o vinagre. El Limpiador
MR. COFFEE® está disponible en muchas tiendas o llamando al teléfono del Departamento
de Servicio al Cliente de MR. COFFEE® 1-800-MRCOFFEE (1-800-672-6333).
4) Suelte el botón de PRESS/HOLD
(OPRIMIR/SOSTENER).
1. Siga las instrucciones del empaque para preparar una tanda de Limpiador
de Cafeteras MR. COFFEE®. Vierta la mezcla dentro del depósito de agua.
Nota: 32 onzas líquidas de vinagre doméstico blanco sin diluir
pueden ser usadas como substituto del limpiador.
2. Coloque un filtro de papel de estilo conol #4 MR. COFFEE® o el filtro permanente

agregue la cantidad deseada de café
molido, llene el depósito de agua
y oprima el botón de DELAY BREW
(PREPARACIÓN RETARDADA).
6. Pase el resto de la solución de limpieza a través de la cafetera.
7. Deseche la solución de limpieza y enjuague completamente la jarra con agua limpia.
8. Llene el depósito de agua con agua fresca y limpia.
9. Coloque la jarra desocupada en la unidad, céntrela debajo de la canasta
de preparación.
10. Remueva y descarte el filtro usado durante el ciclo de limpieza y reemplácelo por
un filtro de papel nuevo #4 estilo cono MR. COFFEE®. Si se usó un filtro permanente
MR. COFFEE® durante el ciclo de limpieza, remuévalo y enjuáguelo completamente
antes de colocarlo de nuevo en la canasta del filtro.
Limpieza de la Cafetera Entre
Ciclos de Preparación
11. Comience la preparación y deje terminar completamente el ciclo de preparación.
12. Repita los pasos 8 al 11 una vez más.
Para limpiar el café molido y el filtro usados:
1) Deseche el filtro de papel y el café molido y
enjuague la canasta del filtro. Usted también
puede lavar la canasta del filtro en la lavadora
de platos (únicamente es seguro para lavaplatos
en la rejilla superior).
¡Su cafetera está ahora limpia y lista para preparar la siguiente jarra de café caliente
y delicioso!
Ciclo de Limpieza Especial
(Modelos ECTX81, ECTX84 y ECTX85)
2) Use agua tibia para limpiar el interior de la jarra
térmica y déjela secar al aire. La jarra térmica
NO ES segura para lavaplatos, excepto la tapa
de la jarra.
Siga los pasos 1 al 3 bajo “Mantenimiento de Su Cafetera”. Oprima el botón del
Ciclo de Limpieza y la luz del Ciclo de Limpieza se prenderá. ¡Para su conveniencia,
todo es automático! El ciclo completo tardará de 45 a 60 minutos. Durante el Ciclo
de Limpieza su cafetera:
El café líquido y molido se encuentran
ambos muy calientes. Manipúlelos
con mucho cuidado para evitar
quemaduras.
1. Preparará lentamente aproximadamente 3 tazas de solución de limpieza.
2. Hará una pausa de 30 minutos (la luz del Ciclo de Limpieza permanecerá prendida

3. Después de 30 minutos, su cafetera preparará el resto de la solución de limpieza.
Desenchufe el cordón de energía
de la cafetera si usted no está usando
la cafetera o el reloj.
4. Cuando termine, la luz de Limpieza se apagará, su cafetera se apagará
automáticamente y la bocina sonará. Siga los Pasos 7 al 12 bajo
“Mantenimiento de Su Cafetera” para terminar el proceso de limpieza.
