INTRODUCTION / GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Congratulations on your purchase of the Magneplanar® CC3 Center Channel
Loudspeaker. The Magneplanar CC3 was conceived and designed for perfectionists.
The CC3 consists of a curved, two-way planar magnetic driver. Due to the elegant

PACKAGING
Save all packaging. If you ever need to ship the CC3 it can be shipped safely only in
the original packaging. Should you discard it, packaging is available from Magnepan.
HOOKUP
The CC3 employs a unique, high-current connector. To install speaker cable, simply
strip approximately ¼-inch of insulation from the speaker cable end, insert the cable
tighten the set screw. Cables terminated with banana plugs or pins may also be used.
For cables terminated with spade lugs, spade lug adapters are available from your
Magneplanar dealer.
Proper phasing is critical in obtaining good performance from your home
theater system. Double check all of your connections to be certain the left, right, and
center speakers are all connected in phase. The left, right, and center speakers are
usually placed equal distance to the listener for correct time alignment.

INSTALLATION AND PLACEMENT

A)
GENERAL
The CC3 is designed for use on top of a TV, in or on top of a cabinet. For free-
standing applications where the CC3 will be set on a speaker stand, call
Magnepan for special instructions for this type of installation.
The CC3 may be placed on top of a TV monitor as shown in Figure A. Magnetic
shielding is not required. To achieve the smoothest vertical response, rotate the
adjustment feet located on the bottom of the speaker. Adjust until the CC3 is
aimed approximately at the listener's head, as shown in Figure A.
FIGURE A
B)
INSTALLATION IN A CABINET
The CC3 may be placed above or below the TV monitor in a cabinet. If the CC3
is placed in an enclosed part of the cabinet, a space of 12" or more is required
behind the CC3 for damping material. A special damping material is required,
which is available from Magnepan for a small charge.
Starting at the rear of the cabinet, LOOSELY pack insulation in the cavity behind
the CC3. Leave an empty space of about 6 inches between the rear of the CC3
and the insulation.
If the speaker is placed below the TV or screen, the speaker can be tilted
upward by removing the 2 existing adjustable feet. Locate the front T nut shown
in the following diagrams. Use a hot soldering iron to burn a hole in the fabric to
allow installation of an adjustable foot in the front T nut.
Whenever possible, the rear of the cabinet should be vented or left open to
allow the rear wave from the CC3 to escape.
Again, for the smoothest response, tilt the speaker to aim it approximately at the
listener's head as shown in Figure A.

INSTALLATION USING BUILT-IN “T” NUTS
As shown below, there are 3 “T” nuts built into the top and bottom of the CC3, at
the designated locations. These built-in T nuts allow hanging or any other type
of installation you may devise. CAREFULLY burn a hole in the cloth with a hot
soldering tip or a method that will seal the hole in the cloth. Eye-bolts or hooks
may be installed in the built-in nuts, and use ¼-inch X 20-inch threads.
DAMPING
When the CC3 is placed close to a rear wall, the sound quality can usually be
improved with a damping material, such as a wall hanging, behind the speaker.
6.
PROCESSOR SETTINGS
Set the processor center channel for “small” center channel speaker. If your processor
provides variable crossover points for “small” center channel speaker, try crossover
points between 100-200 Hz. Set the processor for “large” left/right speakers (if you
have Magneplanar on-wall speakers, such as MMG Ws or MC1s, set the processor for
“small” left/right speakers.
Set the processor for “no subwoofer”. Even if you are using a subwoofer, you will get
better performance from your MMG C by using the “no subwoofer” setting on the
processor. If you want an explanation for this unusual set up procedure, please call
Magnepan.
Connect your subwoofer to the left/right preamp outputs of your receiver or processor.
Set the subwoofer crossover points to the lowest frequency setting. Move the
crossover point slowly to a higher frequency as you are listening to music. When the
subwoofer overlaps with the Magneplanar, the bass will become “muddy”. When this
happens, lower the crossover point.

8.
AMPLIFICATION
WARNING: The CC3 is a 4 ohm speaker. Be certain the amplifier or receiver you are
using is capable of driving a 4 ohm load. If you are uncertain, call the manufacturer of
the amplifier.
OPTIONAL TWEETER ATTENUATION
The CC3 is provided with the means to reduce the output level of the tweeter section.
If the surrounding walls of the listening room are exceptionally reflective, the overall
perceived acoustical balance of the speaker will be tipped towards a “hot” high end.
Attenuating the tweeter can help remedy this problem.

Attenuation is accomplished by insertion of a simple, non-inductive resistor in series
with the tweeter (see Figure B). Replace the jumper with the appropriate resistor to
obtain the desired tweeter attenuation (typically 1 ohm for most rooms). The 1 ohm
resistor provided will attenuate the tweeter 1 - 2dB. Other values are available from
your Magneplanar dealer.
