Your Caller ID phone stores and displays specific inform ation, provided by

your local telephone com pany, to subscribers of Caller ID or sim ilar caller

identification services. You m ust subscribe to one of these services in

order to use this unit.

Your Caller ID phone enables you to:

Identify callers before you answer the phone.

View the tim e and date of each incom ing call.

Record up to 99 Caller ID m essages sequentially.

Know who called while you were away.

To get the m ost from your new phone, we suggest that you take a few

m inutes right now to read through this user's guide.

IMPORTANT: In order to use this unit, you must subscribe to either the

standard Name/ Number Caller ID Service or Caller ID with Call Waiting

Service. To know who is calling while you are on the phone, you must

subscribe to Caller ID with Call Waiting Service.

MODULAR JACK REQUIREMENTS

You need an RJ 14 type m odular jack, which is the m ost

com m on type of phone jack and m ight look like the one

pictured here. If you don’t have a m odular jack, call your local

phone com pany to find out how to get one installed.

INSTALLATION

IMPORTANT INSTALLATION INFORMATION

•

Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm .

•

Never touch uninsulated telephone wires or term inals, unless the

telephone line has been disconnected at the network interface.

•

Use caution when installing or m odifying telephone lines.

INSTALLING THE BATTERIES

Your phone uses 3 AA-size alkaline batteries for power backup in case AC

m ain power is off.

CAUTION: Remove batteries if storing over 30 days.

1. If the line cords are already

connected, disconnect them from the

base unit.

2. Use a screwdriver to pry up the

battery com partm ent door on the

bottom of the phone.

3. Insert 3 AA-size alkaline batteries as

shown on the diagram in the battery

com partm ent.

4. Snap the battery com partm ent door

back into place.

5. If the line cords were previously

connected, re-attach them to the unit

and check your m em ory locations.

NOTE: If the low battery icon appears in

the display, you need to replace the

batteries. It is important that you replace

them as soon as possible in order to

maintain unit operation when AC main

power is off. As a precaution, you may

want to write down any stored

information you do not want erased.

IMPORTANT: If you’re not going to use

the telephone for more than 30 days,

remove the batteries because they can

leak and damage the unit.

INSTALLATION OPTIONS

Although you can use your 2-line

telephone with a single phone line, you

m ust have two lines (separate phone

num bers) to use a two-line system . The

following diagram s show two possible

system s:

Tw o Lines on a Single Modular J ack

One type of two-line phone system uses

a single RJ 14 m odular jack which

contains both phone lines. Connect the

phone cord to the LINE 1+2 jack.

You m ust use a 4-conductor telephone

line cord like the gray one packed with

your unit.

Each Line on a Separate Modular Jack

Line 2

If you have two separate phone jacks,

each with its own line, connect one of

the phone cords to the LINE 2 jack, and

connect the rem aining phone cord to the

LINE 1+2 phone jack located on the back

of the phone.

NOTE: Connect the phone cord from

the LINE 1+2 jack to the outlet that you

want to be line 1.

NOTE: Two-line capability requires two-

line service from your local telephone

company.

A Single Line on a Modular Jack

If you want to only connect one line,

plug one of the telephone line cords into

the LINE 1+2 jack and into a single

m odular phone jack. Your phone will

only use line 1 with this connection. Line

2 will not be used.

DESKTOP INSTALLATION

1. Plug one end of the handset cord into

the handset and the other end into the

jack on the side of the base. Place the

handset in the base.

2. Plug the power supply cord into the

POWER 6V AC jack on the base and

into an AC outlet.

3. Plug the gray telephone line cord into

the LINE 1+2 jack on the base and into

a dual line m odular jack. For single

line use, See “A Single Line on a

Modular J ack“.

defaults to touch-tone dialing. To change

to pulse (rotary) dialing, see “Tone/

1. Rem ove the m ounting bracket. Rotate

it so that the bottom of the phone is

flat. Reattach the wall m ount bracket

by inserting the tabs into the slots on

the top of the unit first, and then

snapping the bottom tabs into place.

2. Plug the power supply cord into the

POWER 6V AC jack on the base and

into an AC outlet.

3. Plug the gray telephone line cord into

the jack m arked LINE 1+2 on the back

of the unit and plug the other end into

a dual line m odular wall jack. For

single line use, See “A Single Line on

a Modular J ack”.

DATA PORT

This phone is equipped with a DATA

PORT jack for you to connect an

auxiliary phone device, such as a fax

m achine, com puter m odem ,

answering m achine, or even a cordless

phone.

The DATA PORT switch on the back of the

phone controls the DATA PORT jack by

enabling you to choose the line to be

used, either line 1 or line 2.

You can use the DATA PORT jack to hook

up your fax m achine, for exam ple, and

then set the DATA PORT switch to 2 in

order to receive faxes on the phone

num ber for line 2.

In the event that you are talking to

som eone on line 2 and want him to

fax som ething to you, change the

DATA PORT switch to 1 and give

him the phone num ber for line 1.

Your fax m achine can now receive

calls on line 1.

IMPORTANT: Be sure to switch

the fax machine back to the normal

line when you are done because

outside callers who do not know

that you have multiple lines will not

be able to reach your fax machine

if they dial the normal fax line.

The caller is registered as “Private Number” and their

AREA CODES

Depending on your area, you m ay need

to set regional area codes. These are

needed in order for the phone to

determ ine the num ber form at to be

displayed when a valid Caller ID signal is

received. Calls received that m atch any

of the regional area codes are displayed

as 10 digits. If the num ber is not

displayed correctly, the phone m ay not

be able to dial back the num ber

properly. You can store up to 6 regional

area codes.

TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE

No dial tone

• Check installation:

–– Are the telephone line cords connected to the phone and

the wall jack? Are they dam aged?

• Does the hook switch pop up when the handset is lifted?

• Check the SPEAKER button. Is the indicator off?

• Is the pulse/tone m ode program m ed correctly? Pulse or tone

m ay not be com patible with your local dialing service.

• Disconnect the phone from the wall jack and connect another

phone to the sam e jack. If there is no dial tone in the second

phone, the problem m ight be your wiring or local service.

Dial tone is OK, but the

phone does not dial out.

• Make sure the pulse/tone m ode is program m ed correctly.

You cannot be heard by

the other party.

• Is the handset or headset cord inserted properly and

securely?

• Is MUTE on?

Phone does not ring.

• Is the ringer turned off?

• You m ay have too m any extension phones on your line. Try

unplugging som e phones.

Su Identificador de Llam adas (Caller ID) le perm ite:

CÓMO INSTALAR LAS BATERÍAS

Su teléfono utiliza baterías alcalinas de tam año AA com o respaldo en caso

conectarlos al aparato y verifique sus

Este teléfono está equipado con un

enchufe para Term inal de Datos (“Data

Port”) para conectar un accesorio

auxiliar, com o una m áquina de fax,

m ódem para com putadora, un aparato

contestador, o hasta un teléfono

inalám brico.

El selector de la Term inal de Datos en

la parte trasera del teléfono controla el

enchufe de la Term inal de Datos, que

IMPORTANTE: Asegúrese de

cambiar la máquina de fax otra vez

a su línea normal cuando haya

terminado porque otras personas

que llamen y no sepan que usted ha

tener acceso a su máquina de fax si

La unidad de intercam bio quedará bajo garantía por el resto del periodo de garantía del producto

original.

Cóm o hacer un reclam o de garantía:

Em paque bien la unidad, incluyendo todos los cables, etc., que originalm ente venían con el producto.

Se recom ienda usar el cartón y m ateriales de em paque originales.

Incluya evidencia de la fecha de com pra, com o el recibo de pago. Tam bién escriba claram ente su nom bre,

dirección y la descripción del defecto. Mande vía UPS o un servicio de paquetería equivalente a:

Pague cualquier cargo que le facture el Centro de Intercam bio por servicio que no esté cubierto por

garantía.
