Road safety comes first
While driving a car, driving is your first responsibility. A wireless phone can be
an invaluable tool, but good judgment must be exercised at all times. Check
the local laws and regulations on the use of wireless phones in vehicles.
Always obey them, and exercise caution while driving.
Air bags
If you have an air bag, DO NOT place installed or portable phone equipment
or other objects over the air bag or in the air bag deployment area. If
equipment is not properly installed, you and your passengers risk serious

Potentially unsafe areas
Posted facilities—Turn your phone off in any facility when posted notices
require you to do so.
Aircraft—FCC regulations prohibit using your phone on a plane that is in the
air. Turn your phone off before boarding aircraft.
Vehicles—RF signals may affect improperly installed or inadequately shielded
electronic systems in motor vehicles. Check with the manufacturer of the
device to determine if it is adequately shielded from external RF energy. Your
physician may be able to help you obtain this information.
Blasting areas—Turn off your phone where blasting is in progress. Observe
restrictions, and follow any regulations or rules.
Potentially explosive atmospheres—Turn off your phone when you are in
any area with a potentially explosive atmosphere. Obey all signs and
instructions. Sparks in such areas could cause an explosion or fire, resulting in
bodily injury or death.

Use with care
Use only in normal position (to ear). Don’t bend the antenna or touch it

If the phone gets wet, turn the power off immediately and return it to the
dealer for service.

Resetting the phone
If the screen seems frozen and the keypad does not respond to keypresses,

Radio Frequency (RF) energy
Your telephone is a radio transmitter and receiver. When it is on, it receives
and sends out RF energy. Your service provider’s network controls the power
of the RF signal. This power level can range from 0.006 to 0.6 watts.

This document describes how to use the basic functions of the QCP 3035
trimode phone, with CDMA digital service at 800 and 1900 MHz, and analog
service at 800 MHz.
To turn on the phone

2 BATTERY
Your phone comes with an external lithium ion (LiIon) battery. The battery
is partially charged when you receive the phone.
Before using your phone, fully charge the battery. Connect the travel
charger to the proper jack on the bottom of the phone as shown below,
then connect the adapter’s plug to a wall outlet.

Power-save mode
Your phone switches to power-save mode after several unsuccessful
attempts to locate a signal. When the phone is in power save mode, you
cannot make or receive calls. “Power Save Mode” and appear on the
screen. Press any key to exit.
Caring for your battery
Follow these guidelines to improve battery performance.
• Do not disassemble, puncture, or short-circuit the battery.
• Keep the metal contacts of the battery clean.
• If you have not used a battery for more than a month, recharge it before
using your phone.
• Avoid extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, and high humidity.
• Never dispose of any battery in or near a fire. It could explode.

Removing the battery
1. Power off the phone.
2. Hold the phone in your hand with the
home screen facing away from you.
3. Place your finger on the upper ridge of
the battery latch.
4. Push down with your finger and pull the
battery door toward you until it dislodges
from the phone.
Inserting the battery
1. Realign the battery to the groove on the
bottom of the phone.

3 CONTACTS
Use your phone’s Contacts directory like a set of phone index cards to store
information about a person or company. Before using the Contacts directory,
see “To enter letters, numbers and symbols” on page 33.
The Contacts Directory stores a maximum of 400 phone numbers. On each
card you can store a name and up to six phone numbers, email addresses,
or URLs, as well as street addresses, and notes about the person or
company.
You can also set up a speed dial number, designate each card as personal or
business to help you find numbers by type, save a voice tag to use with
voice recognition, and set up phone numbers and cards as secret so you can
only access them with a security code.

To save a phone number
1. From the home screen, enter the phone number you want to save.

– Secret—Asks if you want to set restrictions on this number. Select
Yes to hide the number. If a phone number is locked, you must enter

To enter pauses
You can include a pause in a phone number. A timed pause causes the
phone to stop dialing for two seconds. A hard pause causes the phone to
stop dialing until you select Release.

When you save the phone number of an automated service, such as
voicemail, you may include a pause where you would be required to select
an option or enter a password. For example, you could enter a phone
number, then a pause, then a voicemail extension or calling card number.

2. Select a type of pause from the menu
and press in.
– A will appear in the phone number for a timed pause.
– A will appear in the phone number for a hard pause.
3. Enter the remaining numbers.
4. Select Save New or Add to and press

To edit a contact card
1. From the home screen, select Menu → Contacts or press

2. To find the contact you want to edit, select either View All or Find Name.

You may edit the entire contact card (see step 4) or select a phone number

4. To edit the entire contact card, select Options. Select an option listed

Silence All
You may silence all phone sounds, including the ringer and all alerts, while
leaving the phone on. You can replace the sounds by setting the phone to
vibrate or light up.
1. Select Menu → Settings → Silence All.
2. Select an option and press in:
– No, normal returns the alert to the ringer.
– Yes, vibe only mode sets the phone to vibrate only. The is
displayed on the screen.
– Yes, lights only mode sets the phone to flash the backlight only.

Note—The phone will ring, not vibrate, if it is attached to a power source
(hands-free car kit or travel charger).

Keyguard
The Keyguard locks your keypad to protect your phone against accidental
keypresses when the phone is turned on and a call is not in progress. You
may still answer and silence incoming calls with Keyguard on.
To turn keyguard on
1. Select Menu→ Settings→ Keyguard.
– Highlight one of the locking options and press in to save:
– Guard Now locks the keypad immediately.
– 30s auto-guard locks the keypad if no keys are pressed for 30
seconds.
– 1min auto-guard locks the keypad if no keys are pressed for one
minute.
– 5m auto-guard locks the keypad if no key is pressed for five
minutes.
– Auto-guard off unlocks the keypad and restores it to normal.

Headset Ringing
When a headset is attached to the phone, you will hear incoming calls ring
only through the earpiece on your headset.
You can set your phone to alert you to incoming calls by vibrating before
ringing through the earpiece.
1. Plug the headset into the phone.
2. Select Menu→ Settings→ Sounds→ Call Ring/Vibe.
3. Select Vibrate then ring.
When an incoming call is received, the phone will now vibrate and then ring
through the headset earpiece.
Display
You may change the appearance of your phone’s screen.
1. Select Menu→ Settings→ Display, then the option you want. For a list
of options, see page 39.

Hot Keys
Hot Keys provide shortcuts to commonly used features. They allow you to
add a feature to the top level menu view (Web Browser, Contacts, etc.).
Once a feature is chosen as a Hot Key, you may access it directly from the
home screen after you select Menu.
1. Select Menu→ Settings→ Display→ Hot Keys.
2. Select the features you want and press in.
A check appears in the box of any feature you choose. Multiple features
may be selected.

Note—If you no longer want a feature to serve as a Hot Key, you must

Contrast
You may change the contrast of your phone’s screen. The default setting is
Medium.
1. Select Menu→ Settings→ Display→ Contrast Display.
2. Select a setting and press in.
Security
You must enter your four-digit lock code (typically 0000 or the last 4 digits
of the phone number) to set any of the options on the Security menu.
When you lock your phone, you can only call a number set up as an
emergency number, a service provider number, or a priority number. You
can still receive incoming calls.

To lock the phone
1. Select Menu→ Settings→ Security and enter the four-digit lock code.
2. Select Lock Phone Use and select an option:
– Never—Do not lock the phone.
– On power up—Lock the phone every time you turn it on.

To unlock the phone
1. Select Unlock and enter your four-digit lock code.
To limit calls out

To select digital or analog mode

– Automatic automatically switches the phone between digital and
analog.

Roam Option

Use this setting to have the phone alert you if you roam outside of your

2. Select an option and press in.
– Disabled will not alert you if you roam outside your home service
area.
– When no service alerts you with three tones, decreasing in
intensity, when service is lost. When service is acquired again, you
will hear three tones in increasing intensity.

when roaming service is acquired. When home area service is
acquired again, you hear three tones, increasing in intensity.

Privacy Alert
1. Select Menu→ Settings→ Network→ Privacy Alert.

– Disabled does not play any alerts.

These settings tell the phone how to handle voice and data calls.
1. Select Menu → Settings → Network → Data/Fax Calls In.
2. Select an option and press in.
– Voice Only allows only voice calls.
– Fax, next call sets the phone to fax mode for the next incoming call
or the next ten minutes.
– Data, next call sets the phone to data mode for the next incoming
call or the next ten minutes.
– Fax, until off forces the phone into fax mode until the phone is

Fast Find
Fast Find allows you to quickly find a number. As you enter numbers, your
phone will display all matching entries. You may scroll up and down to view
more numbers.
To activate Fast Find, select Menu→ Settings→ Extras→ Fast Find→
Enable.
To use Fast Find:
1. From the home screen, press numbers corresponding to the contact you
want to find.
For example, to find “Joe,” press

Auto-Answer
If your phone is attached to a Hands-free Car Kit (sold separately), you may
set it to answer an incoming call after five seconds.
1. Select Menu→ Settings→ Accessories→ Auto-Answer→ After 5
seconds.
Voice Wake-up
If your phone is trained for Voice Recognition, you can plug an external
power source into the phone (for example, a Desktop Charger or Hands-free
Car Kit), and activate voice recognition with the voice command “Wake Up.”

5 TOOLS
The Tools menu offers a variety of helpful items.
Voice Memos
For information on Voice Memos, see page 82.
Scheduler
The Scheduler allows you to schedule events, such as meetings or
appointments. You can then view these events, and use the alarm to alert
you of upcoming events.
1. Select Menu→ Tools→ Scheduler.
2. Select Add Event and press
in.
3. Enter a name for the event. If you need to know how to use the keypad
to enter letters, see page 33.

4. Select OK, then enter a Title.
5. Select OK again when finished.
Note—If you do not enter a title, the first line of your text message is used
as the default title.
Once you have entered messages in Text Memos, you may edit or erase

7 VOICE FEATURES
The voice features of your QCP 3035 phone allow you to originate calls and
record voice memos.
Saving New Voice Tags
Voice Recognition (VR) allows you to initiate a call to one of your entries in
the Contacts directory by speaking the name of the person you want to
call.
Note—Train commands in a quiet environment. Speak naturally into the
microphone.
1. From the home screen, enter the phone number you want to save.
2. Press
in to Save New.
Note—To add to an existing contact, select Add to... after you enter the
number. Select the contact you want to add to, then proceed to step 4.

Voice Dial List
To view which entries have name tags, select Menu→ Contacts→ Voice
Dial List. As each tag is selected, you will hear the recorded voice tag.
Editing Voice Tags
You can edit or erase a voice tag as you desire.

Voice Training
During Voice Training, you speak a command and the VR “learns” your
voice. VR knows these command words without training: “Yes,” and “No,”
but to enhance accuracy, you may train them to learn your voice.
Perform Voice Training in a quiet environment, and speak naturally into the
microphone.

If the voice commands you repeat during training do not match, VR will ask
you to repeat the command. Do not speak a command until the prompt is
complete. If you speak too soon, you will hear three tones.
1. Select Menu→ Settings→ Extras→ Voice Training.
2. Select the training option you wish to use, and press in to select it.
The VR asks you to say a command.
3. Say the command you hear clearly into the microphone and listen for
“Again.” Say the command again until you hear “Training completed.”
4. Press
when finished to return to the home screen.
To end Voice Training at any time, press
or . The VR recognizes the “Yes” and “No” commands without
training. If you are having difficulty using these commands, training the VR
will improve performance. If you do not train the VR feature, the “Yes” and
“No” commands can be activated by anyone.

The “Wake Up” command allows you to activate VR by voice. You must train
the “Wake Up” command, but this feature may only be used with external
power or an accessory, such as a hands-free car kit or portable hands-free
car kit. Also, Voice Wake Up must be activated. To activate the feature:
1. Select Menu→ Settings→ Accessories → Voice Wake-Up.
2. Select with ext. pwr. and press
in.
To activate VR
Once VR training is complete, you can activate the system in one of two
ways:
• From the home screen, press .
• If you are using your phone with external power, a hands-free car kit,
portable hands-free car kit, or car power adapter, say “Wake Up” and
listen for a tone. Say “Wake Up” again until you hear two tones.
Shortcut—At this point, you may take advantage of the “hidden expert
mode” to make the call. Say the name of the person you want to call after

you hear the first prompt tone. There is no need to wait for the VR to
respond (see “To make a call” below).
To make a call
1. From the home screen, press . you will hear a prompt tone.
2. The VR responds “Speak a name.”
3. Wait until you hear another prompt tone, then say the name of the
person you wish to call.
4. The VR responds “Calling [Name]”. Remain silent to make the call, or say
“No” to cancel the call.
If there are multiple matches to the name that you requested, the VR will
ask you to verify which name you want to call. Reply “Yes” or “No” until you
hear the desired name.
To end a call
To end a call, press . You cannot use voice recognition to end a call.

To receive a call
You may use VR to answer incoming calls. Voice Answer under the
Sounds menu must be active.
• Select Menu→ Settings→ Sounds→ Voice Answer→ Enabled.
This feature may only be used with external power or an accessory, such as
a hands-free car kit or portable hands-free car kit. In order to use this
feature, make sure that the ringer is turned on.
1. Select Menu→ Settings→ Sounds → Call Ring/Vibe.
2. Highlight Ring only then press

Voice Memo
The Voice Memo tool allows you to record and name multiple memos.
The following options are available to create and edit your memos:
Play a recorded memo.
Pause a memo.
Stop and return to the beginning of the memo.
Rewind the memo.
Fast forward the memo.
NAME Name a memo.
ERASE Erase a memo.
Note—You must press and hold
to use the Rewind and Fast
Forward options.
To record a memo
1. Select Menu→ Tools→ Voice Memos.
2. Press in to select Record New.
The phone says “Please record at the tone.” Following the tone, record
your memo. The screen will show the duration of the current memo.

To name a memo
Once you finish recording a memo, you may give your memo a name.

Note—You do not need to enter a name for your memos. “Memo 1,” “Memo

when I turned it on. What does this mean?
Your phone is performing routine maintenance. This normally takes a few
minutes.
My phone is out of memory. What do I do?
Erase old messages or contacts or voice tags or voice memos. See “To erase
messages automatically” on page 57 and “To erase information from a
contact card” on page 24.
My phone is not charging properly.
What can I do?
Remove the battery from the phone as described on page 15, and lightly
clean the contacts using a white eraser.
